“Unless I need a proxy for the emperor “ 😂
Literally found new triggers I didn't even know I had!
Hahahah that made me cry laughing.
It's a 1:1 copy of him. So why not?
one of the commands for the robot is literally to just say "ere we go" on repeat
that is brilliant
just having your robots scream "wargh" and "ere we go, ere we go "the whole match
i like the idea of a speed freekz mek sending some tinboyz the "shoot nearest target that isn't green" command… while fighting salamanders or dark angels
The fact that you didn’t notice until stripping the model means that worked really well
Very true
I’ve had a squad of hand me down, unpainted, Rogue Trader marines just laying around for about 25 years. Finally decided to paint them and it’s so much fun seeing the old models come to life. Cheers! 🖌
I love both new and old-school models from GW. Especially Fantasy Battle era, I think models from 6-8th edition are still outstanding. I will miss the old orks, now that the new ones are coming
I have that model! It was one of the first GW minis I ever painted, and that was back in February 1994! I had just purchased the Warhammer 40,000 boxed set and had picked up a random collection of blisters, not even knowing what I was buying. And this little guy was in my first stash of stuff!
Very lucky!
great lil meganob!
That whole first minute is a love story for the ages, Much better than Twilight
Paint is such a thin layer....
Let me introduce you to models I painted at 16.
Dettol and I forgot and left them for few weeks.
My first painted Model ive don with 8 or 9 is still in my COllection and was never be touched again after i even use it with my actuall army and some say its stupid but many say its such love to the detail of my paint career :D That i give my first modell still so much love his name is Blobby btw cause he hase 6 Colours painted on like wallpaintXD
The ork tinboy rules are actually a SIMPLER version of the other RT robot rules where you used cards to make flowcharts of commands.
I thought initially that it was the original space marine terminator model, which is very similar
I'm not entirely convinced it's not. I trust him, bit it looks JUST like a Saturnine terminator to me.
Update: it actually is a different sculpt. Arms are different.
images.app.goo.gl/TwnGPynPbAuMjTss6
@@ParanoidPacific yeah, I noticed the long arm.
It definitely looks to have been the model that the sculpt was based on.
I wouldn't be surprised if the master was made by cutting off the left arm and attaching green stuff to one of the saturnine models pulled off the production line
do you know about ooy gooey sprewey stuff? good use of spues in acetone
Those psycho eyes had me cracking up from the second they were painted
true, but i think one pupil should be waaay bigger than the other to maximize the effect :D
What was best about that era of Rogue trader is the vehicle targeting templates, you flipped past a few in the . You had a clear overlay sheet marked with a targeting reticule and 1cm increments in the X&Y dimensions. You'd place this overlay on the template (which was a side outline of the vehicle with different areas marked for engine, weapon, ammo, etc.) and roll 2d6 for the X axis and 2d6 for the Y. A roll of 7 was "on target" and other rolls were at the 1cm increments away from the reticule. You'd use your 2 rolls to determine where on the vehicle you hit (or miss, not every template covered the whole 2-12 range of values), and apply damage to a given area of the vehicle.
I remember seeing this model in that book and trying to find it as a kid
ultra sonic cleaner will help when using those other less aggressive cleaners, but also for metal models easy off foaming oven cleaner in a baggie over night works well too :)
I've dealt with plenty of minis over the years that defy the 'paint is thin' mantra. Sometimes it's thick with a capital THICC. One of my favourite models of that era are the Eldar Battle Drones/Ghost Warriors - they have a thin creepy, almost scarecrow look to them 🤔
my oldest is the old pewter cypher model that I picked up new from my local hobby store, good job on the model I love goof ideas like this one.
I have all three of the tin boy models the eldar looking one ( 4 of those actually), the marine and a dwarven one, the idea was that the ton boys guard and feed the runts so in battle the runts would run to whatever looked like them...its kind of like the Soviet "bomb dogs" in WW2 they used to feed them under tanks so when released they'd find a tank and run underneath looking for food at which point their bomb on their backs would detonate
I always wondered about that exact photo when I got the second edition box. For me it just added to the sense of a wide and living world, 'some orks have crazy weird armour, cool!'
Oldest GW Mini in my collection? The LE6 Space Santa, Love 'em!
It is so nice to see the fans models at the end of the video
DUDE I have that book!! When I saw that little guy in there I was thinking that he has got too be one of the coolest rouge trader models ever! Glad you found one!! 😎🤙
Well I just went and bought one. Damn you EOB, and your similar interests in weird stuff.
The "ass phase", love that. Sometimes I get stuck on that phase longer than I should lol
My oldest model is the Space Wolves Iron Priest I bought in 1993 when I traveled to England and saw it in a store. Fenrys Hjolda!
He looks so derpy.... And.... I love it
Intresting... really looks like a summary of rogue trader orks
LMAO that face plant during the strip
turns out it wasn't a robot after all but a cybork in prototype mega armour. the poor boy took a big swig and it stripped the paint… from his gutz
My paint job on mine looks like crap, but I only had a couple of pots of paint, and they were just generic pots of paint for doing D&D minis. LOL there were NO resources back then. No painting guides, no established techniques, no communication with other people to learn how to paint minis. It's amazing how far along things have progressed in this hobby in these 25-ish years.
Love going through these older videos. I'm pretty sure I have one of these. Plus many more ooooold models
So 00:31 is my exact reaction when I saw the Squat Tinboy on eBay today and hit buy now button
Its beautiful. Might be the most beautiful mini on the channel.
Ironically enough this is the first EoB video I ever saw
That is an excessive amount of acetone 😂
Beautifully retro model
I love how this turned out, it’s adorable. I want to get into doing metal models but the lead in them makes me a little anxious
Love the grover face on the leg :D
not sure which is older, but I have the Rogue Trader model of Leman Russ (the primarch), a RT ork pirate and a RT Landraider. For bonus points I also have the Legion of the Damned special character (which I love, and will continue to mention it at any opportunity)
Try using a supersonic cleaner for the last bit of paint
Somewhere in a crown royal bag of D&D minis, I have a Space Marine from 2005/6(maybe older, but it's not a 2nd Edition Marine or anything). Which is not that old compared to a lot "retro" minis, but that's still 17/18 years ago. I have that marine because a friend of my Dad used to play 40k. When I was 6 or 7 during a summer evening, that friend and my dad basically had my brothers and I act as free labor, chopping the marines off the sprue, cleaning mold lines, and prepping them for assembly. My olders brothers didn't build any of the marines they just did the cutting and scraping. I wanted to help build them because the box looked really cool. So the friend and my dad were glad to keep the extra hand for assembly, and I asked a ton of questions about Space Marines. The friend let me keep a single Bolter marine. I really want to find that old mini, fix 'em up cause he's missing his gun, and paint it up.
Man I am so glad to see other people gush over a model they love like I do, even if you don't think you'll ever use it in a game. Some are just the right kind of awesome that you want them on your shelf.
This entire video has massive “my precious” vibes
I love tinboyz so much
It looks really Grim-Dork and I mean that as a huge compliment.
I subscribed yesterday, this is a great first vid on the feed.
Man thanks for sharing this! I absolutely love the old old stuff! I’m still looking for the old I think it was one of the original chaos space marines that has the tentacle arm!
The head on the tin boy reminds me of crow from MST 3K
Stripping paint - Dettol 👍😊👌
That last 3%? Straight back for another soak in Dettol!
Acetone - melt sprue and remould it to repair broken models!
- Get some 'Blue Stuff' make a mould of the damaged/missing part and some of the surrounding part of a complete figure. Replace it with the broken figure with a scoop of melted sprue in place of the missing bit, and close the mould, secure it with elastic band/s, leave a couple of days (or more if a larger subject). Open it up and you should have a rough recasted piece. Leave another couple of days or more till it stops smelling of acetone and clean up the rough mould lines. Hey presto, by the Emperor's trousers, an extra model to complete your model/figure/army ☺
Beautiful! Loving seeing all the old school stuff on the channel :) I've been painting a lot of 2nd edition of late and a little RT and it's nice to see some vids covering this stuff :)
The best paint stripper for metal models is Easyoff Oven cleaner.
That is such a great model and also the fact orks are scavengers it would make sense that orks use the armour from fallen enemy's to thier advantage.
I remember 1st edition fondly. Even then my orks were awesome
Those eyes totally make it look like Crow T. Robot.
I didn't know this model existed. It's so... Strange
'Ere we go! 'ere we go! 'ere we go!
My oldest models would be my Rogue Trader Genestealer cultists, complete with seated Patriarch and plastic hybrids from the Space Hulk: Genestealer expansion. All are painted up and form the core of my modern 'stealer army. It gives me a warm feeling to know that army has been fighting for 32 years...
I love restored Oldhammer!
I've still got that book, but I don't remember ever noticing those.
My oldest models are 30 RTB-01 marines with their OG Rhino and Predator.
One of the best ways I’ve found to remove the last 3% of paint is to put the models into an ultrasonic cleaner with isopropyl alcohol for about 30 seconds after doing the traditional scrub with Detol, scrub it with a clean brush and then rinse with water, and blow dry. It doesn’t melt the model but removes the last of the tacky, half melted paint👌🏻 it also degreases the model so primers stick really well
The preview of this video when hovering the thumbnail had me dreading this was gonna be something else entirely...
Awesome model and great paint job!
I hope they bring back squats too, even though it would hurt my wallet a lot! 🤣. They’re already bringing Bretonnia back, so my wallet is screwed either way...
PS: love the Celestine cameo! 😝
Where's Bretonia? 😳
@@Nachohead10 GW have announced a game called “The Old World” and one of the factions is Bretonnia. No concrete details on release date or the exact nature of the game yet, though.
oh boy, i gotz some news for you git
Now I know what to do with the GIANT banner on bottom of the metal ones, thanks! Great idea!
Those were some of my first models from my old rouge trader days.. still have a few in my collection... great video
As always cool video. And the paint job on that tin boy is perfect.
loved the video. just hope you saved all the extra acetone out of that jar!
There were two other Tinboyz made for the orks besides the Space Marine one you got: Eldar and Squat. Follow up video?
I have all 3.
It felt like he knew that though and was fishing for comments 🙂
You can use acetone to strip plastic models. But you can’t soak them, a q-tip(or cotton bud) or a toothbrush dipped into the acetone will get all that paint off fast. But keep some good clean water close by
Great miniature! I've been looking for the squat tinboy for a few months but haven't found one yet. My oldest models are probably Tinman & Oxy O'Cetylene (white dwarf 1986), for 40k Bonce the Squat Mercenary (1987). My favourite old 40k miniatures are the (unreleased Squats) Cyber-Slayers or the mini-terminator'ish Exo armoured with banner from the 2nd edition.
Took about a year or 2 to find all of them second hand, next quest are some squat pirates ;)
Oh! i got this guy and the eldar inspired one from value village! Maybe ill paint them up now
To me, the beauty about all these super early edition models was that free handing everything was the norm for hobbyists, even if it looked bad. Makes me feel nostalgic about a hobby I wasn't even into in the 90s
Need to try Biostrip 20 if you can get it. Soak for 30 minutes and it's good to be scrubbed under the tap. Works for enamels and oil paints as well as acrylic.
My oldest model is a 88 Ork with giant plasma gun, although my favorite old model i have has to be my Painboy with giant scissors
omg, your editing is quite nice this time. Great job Bros!!!
these were the first models I had circa 94, was in the sale bin for 99p a blister
I have an 1 metal space marine model and i have no idea who he is or from where xD i think is a black templar tho based on chain tied to his sword and symbols. you guys know some place i can check who he is? i spent HOURS trying to find him online and nothing
Have you ever used orange stripper? Back when I did a lot of custom Hot Wheels that's all I used. No idea how it affects plastic but a model like this would have been stripped in just a couple hours depending on the clear coat strength
My oldest comes from the 80s. It's a Judge Dredd mini GW made for the '85 TRPG of the same name.
I remember those from when I first started playing in the 90s
i really dig the new song
That was too much acetone, I use half that much for a dozen minis.
Edit: also acetone works on some kinds of plastic, i've used it succesfully on some slightly rubbery board game minis (The primer I used made them tacky, so i had to strip the primer)
Unto the breach has some very good paint stripped, Pete the wargamer uses it in a video, and I have had good results too
This video has the honor of me watching it while I eat
The model I want to spend the rest of my life with: megan fox. 😍
Back when she was in transformers
Your videos are super professional!
My oldest models are technically the chaos android Necron models in Space crusade board game as well as the original necron raider warriors, scarabs and the lord. I love all of them as they just have more character then the new models even though the new ones are badass.
Salamander dark green yellow highlight.
We really like the robot, and the paint job is cracking. From Andy and lily (6 nearly 7)
I recently picked up a 1989 Painboy. I'm not entirely sure what I'll do with him yet as he is grot-sized. Gonna have to figure something out if I want to run him as a painboy for my Evil Sunz
You really need to do more of those Retro painting. Get some of these RT chaplain for your collection.
It'd be interesting to see someone Kitbash this tin boy with more modern kits.
Those "old" 40k books are what i consider recent because thats the last time i painted
Bloody excellent
Seeing you breaking bad up whilst handling the acetone makes me concerned seing as I nare hand the stuff for my resin prints 😂
i actually built a kitbash using a combination of beast snagga boyz (for the body) and some extra space marine parts for arms and weapons (and the head)
Dude, that her bike chaplain you painted recently is an older sculpt than the tin boy!
ITS SO BEAUTIFUL !!!! :O
I have the original Cypher, Azrael, and an Eversor. All of them are Early 90's Pewter.
I have an original give tyrant. I don't feel like sending in the photo. I made a base for it that gave it a large enough base that apps made it an accurate height to play in competition if I felt like it. That said, if I get 100 likes (never had that many on a comment before) I will send in a picture , as I never normally bother. Side note: I am not a golden demon award winning painter by any stretch, but like my paint scheme.
I feel like you should have one of these guys in your Black Templars army just hiding.
