me: "I should try to do some simple crafty stuff while High." moments later: "Behold, where once I had one whole mini, I now have FOUR destroyed parts"
I kind of noticed that Jay inadvertently painted his Death Guard in the same color scheme as Heironymus Bach’s many paintings of hell (the blues, greens, yellows and oranges) and I think it’s really fitting
Love this, the comparison to Rembrandt and old masters is spot on. The “evy metal” style has a lot to answer for for encouraging everyone to follow that one style of miniature painting but you’ve shown how awesome the results can be with a different outlook and some artistic flair
It started with just one model, and now, three years later, he has an entire Death Guard army with Mortarion himself. Let that be a lesson to everyone: Allowing just even one spore of rot will eventually corrupt an entire person.
I've been slowly working my way through some orks, not trying to create a squad, just enjoy each mini. I think this approach might suit orks, they're tattered and grimy too.
that would make for a good alpha legion scheme IMO. I think between the blue and yellow/green colour it looks like it's a transition due to the light, which is what I always expect their armour to do anyway (have that two tone thing going on)
It's really close to the "Sons of the Hydra" scheme. Currently working on a small warband with that paint job. Works great on a model and looks quite interesting, especially since the scheme encourages you to use bright, vibrant colors for the shadows. The only downside, finding the right colors by mixing can take quite some time.
I always keep a couple of death guard models around in case of a creative block. You can go crazy on them and thet will pretty much always turn out interesting.
also dude, that's how I paint as well, only in between stages of adding the home made washes, I dry brush in highlights (before I even start the washes as well TBH) ofc some minis aren't suited for this, but most GW stuff is highly detailed plastic, and if you dry brush properly it looks great (Thanks Tyler Mengel, this guy taught me everything I use in my modern painting methods) and like you say, you work light to dark. adding darker colour washes to shadow sides and undersides and what have you. with me this started as recess shading, and then I got bolder as time went on to start spreading the paint around a bit more. now I mix like 5 washes on a plague marine. as long as your base is light, you can mix all sorts to get some amazing effects. the damp brush stippling technique you can do with a make up brush as well, this is great for getting in some blotchy discolouration, it's great for adding rusted areas to the armour. with my scheme it's pale green for the general colour, so the patches of rust really have nice contrast, and it makes the mini pop a lot.
Burping isn't gross, it's the fact that whenever you burped you sounded like you were about to puke. Yeh this looks just fantastic, sometimes color contrasting doesn't need to make sense to make sense and as a bonus this scheme seemed easily applied across an army. As for little things I've picked up along the way, I have a little trick I accidentally discovered while dry brushing and that is if you have a non metal color you can take some metal color like a silver usually and drybrush that on some edges to give it armor a sand blasted look
Oh I used that technique when I painted some enclave models from fallout. Mostly because I had no clue how I would do the models so they looked like they had been out on mission for a while and a silver drybrush just made them pop and it ended up on all the details which would get scuffed and such while on a mission
Awesome! Reminds me of a game my wife and I play where we draw a randomish shape and hand the page to the other person to turn the shape into something.
Holy crap, I was not prepared for the fart symphony at the end. That was friggin' hilarious! Great work, it's incredible that you can get a little soused and still paint 1000x better than I can stone cold sober.
Great inspiration. I'm going to apply it to the skins for my Black Orc Blood Bowl Team. I like the idea of them all having slightly different skin colours but from the same limited range. Great stuff! Thanks
I love this paintjob so much, helped inspire my plague marine paint scheme and I keep coming back to this video. Seriously such a fantastic paintjob, I think its my favorite of yours
That is an amazing paint job, I believe I'll have to test out this approach myself. The problem will be keeping yourself from going to "Drunk as a Skunk" mode, as you're sitting down for extended periods of time.
This is actually pretty awesome. Each model looks super unique but not ridiculous. There is uniformity to the paintjob. I think it definitely suits the deathguard but I'd be interested to see if it works on something as sharp and crisp and an ultra marine. I could definitely see it working for Tyranid
Great video! I paint my brother a plague marine when it’s their birthday/holidays and it’s really fun to just not care and let the model speak to you lol
What are we imagining he’s drinking? I’m thinking something repulsive like Malort based on the grimaces, but would love to hear it’s like Midori or something nice.
I'd imagine it would be doable, but with less variance on the palette. For Black Templars, I'd look at the art work for the cover of 3rd edition 40k, and the colours mixed in for the armour. While their armour wouldn't be as rusted as the Heretical Astartes, a life of battle is going to dirty a few paint jobs!
It would definitely be a challenge, perhaps treating the black armor like it's ALL none metallic metal and slop on grays and whites? then mix in some more colors but very subtly.
I've searched "drunk mini painting" before after seeing Miniac and Ninjon do three of them but youtube never showed me this. Great job on that plague boi and it was fun to see you drinkin and enjoying yourself while you paint
I made my own pallet from a lunch box. thinking about buying a proper one though, just as mine is quite small tbh, and i only use kitchen towels for the moisture and baking paper to put my paint on. It works, but it could be better still. I might actually take the plunge and buy one, as it is something I would use a lot. Just never seen the point buying one, when I can make one myself TBH.
i must say i’m very sad i did not get to see all of these videos as they came out as i was late to the channel but that gives me amazing moments like this where i stubble upon an absolute masterpiece i never expected 😂👍
Oups ..that backpack will be a little bit brighter than the other parts 😂i can relate and it was sooo funny.. i discovered your channel a few days ago and i really love it 😊 i really enjoy all your vidéo !! I am glue to my screen !!
Sloppy with the colours to make the paint job better. Is this one of those times when you have to already be good at the rules in order to break the rules and have it look good?
This would be such an interesting paintjob to put onto some Tzeentchy demons. Give them that ethereal warp-y effect. Really push the entropy side of change.
This might be my favorite painting video I've ever seen! Ending with a farty symphony and actually demonstrating some really fun technique I've really never seen! I always thought of painting as you described, in GW style, this thing is this color, this opened my eyes for sure!
I was watching this in a doctor’s waiting room, and the “fart symphony” at the end made for an embarrassing giggle-fit. Thank you so much for that.
me: "I should try to do some simple crafty stuff while High."
moments later: "Behold, where once I had one whole mini, I now have FOUR destroyed parts"
Me blowing smoke over my painted mini's to add some ambience for a quick photo lmao
Me: Spills multiple bottle of nuln oil trying to be very careful, fully sober
EoB: Paints a mini with 100x more still than I could, while inebriated
I kind of noticed that Jay inadvertently painted his Death Guard in the same color scheme as Heironymus Bach’s many paintings of hell (the blues, greens, yellows and oranges) and I think it’s really fitting
Wow, you are one of the few youtubers who consistently makes me laugh and your attitude towards the 40k hobby is outstanding. Keep up the good work!!
His attitude is if Homer Simpson took up the hobby and for every penny he spent he timed his alcoholism by 3.
hes makes great educational, funny and entertaining videos about painting hes the best
Mortarion and his technicolored plague marines. Love it
Love this, the comparison to Rembrandt and old masters is spot on. The “evy metal” style has a lot to answer for for encouraging everyone to follow that one style of miniature painting but you’ve shown how awesome the results can be with a different outlook and some artistic flair
Amen. That held me up for a long time because I was trying to achieve the box art and failing.
It started with just one model, and now, three years later, he has an entire Death Guard army with Mortarion himself. Let that be a lesson to everyone: Allowing just even one spore of rot will eventually corrupt an entire person.
Be careful with those random grab bags!!
I've been slowly working my way through some orks, not trying to create a squad, just enjoy each mini. I think this approach might suit orks, they're tattered and grimy too.
Never knew I needed this in my life
You are definitely the most uncharming drinker i have ever seen on UA-cam haha, great video btw!
that would make for a good alpha legion scheme IMO. I think between the blue and yellow/green colour it looks like it's a transition due to the light, which is what I always expect their armour to do anyway (have that two tone thing going on)

16:20 When Death Guard finally gets in close combat
Farts so deadly space marines die of choking in their own vomit filled helmets
@@loveblues9633 I'd say please don't tell me thats canon but I know in 40k it already is in some way
Godamn I'm as early as a scalper on pre-order day

This was freaking awesome. Loved that stop motion dance number, I bet nurglings are divas on the dance floor.
Awesome! Reminds me of a game my wife and I play where we draw a randomish shape and hand the page to the other person to turn the shape into something.
18:06 Damn that's a badass custom Plague Marine! Love the Raven head. Good job brugotalota!
di-did he just casually drop a Galaxy Quest line after taking a shot?
(one of my favorite movies btw)
Am I going mad thinking there was a video going over how you painted the previous squad of Space Marines in this style? I can't find it at all. :X
the farting dance part was ridiculously funny. Great vid! Now, paint up 2K points of them the same way!
I LOVED the lil fart song montage! I genuinely cracked up at that.
16:20 now this is content
Now, THIS is podracing!
This video was a blast! I was laughing and relating so hard. As long as your liver is healthy this needs to be a series.
Loved everything about this episode.
Was just an overall fun time.
Loved seeing my gross plague Boyz getting a colorful paint job.
Holy crap, I was not prepared for the fart symphony at the end. That was friggin' hilarious!
Great work, it's incredible that you can get a little soused and still paint 1000x better than I can stone cold sober.

16:20 dammit dude lol you got me
What did you drink?
I love this paintjob so much, helped inspire my plague marine paint scheme and I keep coming back to this video. Seriously such a fantastic paintjob, I think its my favorite of yours

The fart symphony was amazing! It was so unexpected and just got me.
I also have the time of my life painting. And sing along, too. Nobody puts baby nurgling in the corner.
This has probably already been said but the mans really looks like you brought a watercolor to life! Might have to snatch this idea for some Tau,,,
One of the most entertaining things I've watched in a while, and what great results too. Thanks a lot Jay :) *belch*
Album when?
Why I like nurgle, my partner gets intimidated paiting incase the model gets "ruined" but plague marines are very forgiving
Jay drinkin that paint water straight...
This man just hit the point of no return
Around your 30's drinking alone at home
Perfect viewing material for an insomniac. Thank you for this.
wasnt expecting the fart song
What are we imagining he’s drinking? I’m thinking something repulsive like Malort based on the grimaces, but would love to hear it’s like Midori or something nice.
Painting drunk is like playing pool drunk.
There is a threshold where you do well, past that... you won't finish the model.
I freakin need those paints they look so freakin good!
In a few of his more recent videos, I think Jay stated that the company that made them went defunct
The photo montage and song at the end tho >
What do you mean unwatchable? 20 seconds in and there's already been 3 burps! #burpbretheren
Real warhammer painters huff the plastic glue while painting
Great video, but how would you apply these principles to a model that requires more precision, like a Loyalist space marine? Especially Black Templars
I’d love to see you experiment with that in a video. Either way, you certainly found a great way to paint death guard
Omg I broke down at the fart dance at the end
I've searched "drunk mini painting" before after seeing Miniac and Ninjon do three of them but youtube never showed me this.
Great job on that plague boi and it was fun to see you drinkin and enjoying yourself while you paint
I've been drunk painting all wrong lol, thanks for the inspiration!
Gorgeous paint job, Jay!
This video was really fun to watch!
That dance sequence will forever stay with me 💃
I really like this open format of just talking while painting and not just as an voiceover. Keep goin with it! 👍
Fantastic paint scheme Jay
I made my own pallet from a lunch box. thinking about buying a proper one though, just as mine is quite small tbh, and i only use kitchen towels for the moisture and baking paper to put my paint on.
It works, but it could be better still. I might actually take the plunge and buy one, as it is something I would use a lot. Just never seen the point buying one, when I can make one myself TBH.
Awesome Plague Marine and cool "water colour" method! The drunk part was... interesting...
Alpha Legion on Death Guard assignment
i must say i’m very sad i did not get to see all of these videos as they came out as i was late to the channel but that gives me amazing moments like this where i stubble upon an absolute masterpiece i never expected 😂👍
"It just works" ughhh I shiver hearing those forsaken gamer words!
Where is the bomb objective marker of Just Makes Stuff from? Looks awesome.
PS: found it, Sector Imperialis, Exterminatus Device.
Oups ..that backpack will be a little bit brighter than the other parts 😂i can relate and it was sooo funny.. i discovered your channel a few days ago and i really love it 😊 i really enjoy all your vidéo !! I am glue to my screen !!
What brand of paints is that you're using? I dont recognize the bottles.
it's from a little company called Imperial Hobby Paints
So damn amazing... I rewatched the Farting song, like 10 times... LMFAO 🤣
He really channeled the essence of nurgle for this one
Great video! What are those paints you’re using? Don’t recognize those sleek black bottles
The plague marine music video was just inspired.
Hey man! Amazing job. Any chance you could tell me what colors you use? Wanna copy it :)
Best mini painting video ever!
Hello Sir, what Color do u use for it ? is this Contrast Color? Can u explane the brand and the Color please ?
When did the members from Grateful Dead swear allegiance to Grandfather Nurgle? Those really look good
*Oh that's what that stream was*
Great vid, really like how they turned out.
"paint water" is my favourite cocktail
Sloppy with the colours to make the paint job better. Is this one of those times when you have to already be good at the rules in order to break the rules and have it look good?
Live in a rec legal state I'm allways super stoned painting
Your videos are so damb entertaining! Thank you!
I've been watching these videos for so long and it's always felt like something was missing.
Now I know what it was: Hellraiser quotes.
What was the drink?
Angrax earthshade wash
Thanks, I am in a painting rut. This was much fun
So you have followed the advice from the movie "Another round", huh?
Ay I was so glad you did the plague marine for this!
This would be such an interesting paintjob to put onto some Tzeentchy demons. Give them that ethereal warp-y effect. Really push the entropy side of change.
Looks really great.
This might be my fav. video of yours lol. Your joy transmits like Nurgles finest plague.
How i paint my models every night 🤣
2000 pts of tau and 1500 of dark eldar soon to build
Drunk painting is the best; the time just flies by 🤣
This was... Something. Entertaining and I learned something but... Wow.
What does one drink to achieve such a result?
plague ale
Just realised that you're also a lefty!!
are your pants a multi coloured mess as well..... big question is do you have painting pants?
I wanted to do deathguard before. But GODDAMN! I'm on it now. Wh world this weekend hopefully so I might pick up a box
This might be my favorite painting video I've ever seen! Ending with a farty symphony and actually demonstrating some really fun technique I've really never seen! I always thought of painting as you described, in GW style, this thing is this color, this opened my eyes for sure!
More painting vids like this one please
What brand of paint was used?
dude, you're pree good at painting minis (:
