Installing Amazon's BEST CHEAP Catch Can on my Escalade
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 бер 2024
- This is the best cheap catch can on Amazon! A catch can is a great addition to any car. It goes inline from the PCV valve to the intake manifold and "catches" any oil that makes it past the PCV. This one is my personal favorite which isn't only inexpensive but also very well made. I have one of these on my Tahoe, Trans am, and now the Escalade.

As a Ford guy, I can tell that these GMT trucks have some minor stupid things, but overall, they are very well made. Some of the last vehicles that were made with high quality to last untold years to come.
I can't stop telling you that your rock/metal intros are quite cool, as I'm a metalhead too.
Man I love your content.
Had this one on my 99 Sierra 5.3. When the frame snapped on it (thanks Illinois), I saved it and now run it on my 92 Lincoln Mark VII. Have one on my '14 Armada, too :)
I'm just patiently waiting for you to announce the LSA to this build 🧐🤑🤑🤑
Also feel free to check out my play list using this exact catch can on the GM 2.4l EcoTec.
You are really helping me with my recent 2010 Escalade ESV purchase. May 2024. Literally your punch list is exactly a copy of mine. Everything your fixing is same broken on mine. LOL Thanks Matt Love you, and the channel brother. thanks for all the help. And Yes I am on a budget, so anything to save a shekel. LOL
Haha nice to hear. I have 4 more repair videos coming on this, everything is finally almost fixed!
I use those catch can on every car I own. They work for the money
Hilarious narration, especially the "custom threaded Loctite" part! This is a great real-world install video, even if some shortcuts were taken (like re-using hose cutters on zip ties). Super helpful to see the whole process, including potential pitfalls and solutions. Thanks for saving me time and frustration with my own catch can install!
Picked up one for my Yukon last year as well. These look amazing.
I have put this exact same catch can on every single Chevy LS I have owned it flat out works
This build is great, so exited to see what you all do with this Escalade 🔥💯
Have the same one on my Tahoe for almost 2 years now and have it mounted about the same spot, above the power steering reservoir. Easy to unscrew and clean. 0 problems
I love your videos and content man keep up the good work 👍🏾👍🏾
Just ordered from your links. hose and Can. Outstanding video Brother!
LsxMatt lmk when you create a custom shirt for the new truck
Love this series. I am looking at a 2008 right now with 120k on it. No accidents and great service history. I know there is no AFM on it, but still in back of mind. At least your problem seemed to be one in a million.
Buying one right now for my Caddilac Escalade too thanks
I have one in my 2016 ford expedition. Works great!!
Gmt900s are very reliable. Yes they have their flaws but so does everything else.
Although it’s got super easy access to be screwed off but you could drill and tap for a standard gm oil drain plug to screw into or even a little valve like a fuel cutoff valve on a motorcycle so you could permanently attach a drain tube to it. Just an idea anyway. Loving the gmt900 content so far, looking forward to a lot more hopefully.
Thats a good idea, I think they make some with drain valves on them as well.
I've been thinking about buying one for each of my hot rods. I found the exact same catch cans on eBay for $24.99 each. Ordered today after watching your video. Thanks for the inspiration.
I bought this one for my older 91 Corvette
I installed one of those on my 22 Frontier and have never had a problem with it.😇
I ordered this and it came with no instructions. So far no help from the manufacturer but then I remembered you posted them in your video at 5:17. Yup, the instructions just explain the basics. Thanks for the detail video. I'm looking forward to getting this installed on my Tahoe.
Dude!! They work great on high mileage xj's!!!✌️
I run the moroso one. Idk if it’s worth the price but it works well. My l92 leaks all the oil but doesn’t burn a lot. I can usually go two oil changes before having to empty the can.
Im going to get one
Hands down your most difficult project to date
O-ring goes around the midsection, the part you unscrewed to empty the oil
Ok cool I guess they give you a spare
The best
Hmmmm... never seen one of those, but I likes the concept!
Great vid, do you have any additional tips on doing this in a 5.7 vortec? specially when it comes to the ventilation side
Not familiar with the 5.7, but install would be the same. Just intercept the pcv hose going from the valve to the intake.
Can't help but wondet if it was mounted lower where the liquid would have to stay down in can instead of level . Just a thought.
A little acetone on a rag and that delightful "oil catch can," writing on top would probably come right off.
Around here we call it the Quebec lock-Tite.
Where did you mount your catch can on Tahini? I’m doing my 01 Tahoe currently, need a good placement for the can.
I have that same catch can on my cammed 05 suburban. It gets pretty much completely full by the time i need to change the oil.
wow, I was going to say I have the same one on my 11 yukon, it's for a few oz in it, but less than half at old changes. have you done the upgraded valve cover?
Yes, I have done the upgraded valve cover. How often do you change your oil? I go about 6000 miles on an oil change. If you change your oil more often it might not have enough time to fill the can completely. @@jsomething2
I shoot for 5k. little before little later. huh
If your getting that much oil that's blowby. That's way to much oil.
@@albertchaidez6317 the engine has no blowby. Has great compression on all cylinders and made excellent power on the dyno. I think filling a tiny 100ml can every 6000 miles is pretty reasonable.
Dawm Matt I should do this to my 01 sierra 🤔
You could. Really depends if you want to spend the money. Nothing bad is going to happen if you don’t, but if your truck is up there in mileage it will definitely keep the engine cleaner by catching the extra oil.
@@lsXmattcouldn’t hurt that 5.3l has 240k😂
I wish this would work on my chevy 8.1 big block
Why not?
@lsXmatt it's pcv draws from a hole on underside of the intake into the throttle body. No hoses. It's why it uses so much oil I havnt seen any successful solution
What happens when you don't empty it and oil gets sucked into the intake? If it was a good solution it would come installed from the factory. I understand its function, but have concerns.
Never thought of that before. The engine would have to be in really bad shape, or the can neglected for years to get to that point. Mine fills up barely a 1/4 of the can between changes on my Tahoe. That has 260k on it, about 3-6 months between oil changes.
once full, unless you unbolted it and turned it upside down while running it would just stop filtering oil and run the same as without a catch can.
but honestly who would install this and not empty it when you change your oil? it even has a dip stick to check it. and if it fills before you check your oil then you probably need a rebuild anyways.
If I remember correctly, a PCV valve is related to emissions. Manufacturers have been following emissions related laws that hurt engines for a long time. One example off the top of my head. Displacement on demand in GM engines has been grenading engines for over a decade. This is a fix that keeps the PCV system working while keeping your intake clean. Win-win in my opinion.
When are you going to do more tahoe videos?
I have something coming in a week or so, nothing crazy but it is Tahoe stuff. The next big thing is the rockers which is right around the corner, I’m just trying to get most of the escalade squared away before I get into it.
Don’t you need two , one for the other valve cover ? Or it really doesn’t matter ?
Just one is enough
i'm enjoying these more frequent, slightly shorter videos
More to come👍
Literally bought the same one, youtube how to and find this...😂
No reason to get the high end ones when the cheap amazon is that good!
Some catch can prices are insane!
This exact catch can clogged and ended up pushing my rear main seal out.
what clogged up on it?
unless you blocked off the drivers side vent, it really shouldn't have built up much pressure in the crank case
Im not sure why it clogged. It was on a road race engine and it built so much crank case pressure it blew the rear seal out within 2 laps. I took it off and put the stock breather routing back on, and have not had any more issues.
like did you find a plugged up part in it or was maybe the 30$ Amazon one not big enough or high flow enough for a race engine? cause I could see that pretty easily. I have one of these on my daily yukon but my c6 that sees a few track days I went with a 400$ Elite engineering with clean side separator as well.
I wouldn’t run this on a race car or anything boosted. Daily drivers and moderate power n/a builds it would be fine. If you’re making a lot of power the hose size and can capacity can be a restriction.
@@jsomething2I didnt find an obvious restriction. A friend talked me into putting this catch can on it, and the first run it blew the rear seal out. Ruined our race weekend. I took it off and threw it straight in the trash. Didnt bother investigating what the restriction was. Id rather deal with a little oil getting into the intake than risk ending my weekend over a $30 Chinese part.
its 2024 and cars still use oil bath intake systems 😆😅🤣😂
Best cheap 🤔 😂 get one with a bigger vent on it
Don’t need a vent, hooks up like the factory pcv system. This is a cheap can that anyone can install on their daily. I’m installing it on an Escalade, not a race car.
There’s no need to vent to atmosphere there’s not enough crank case pressure for it to cause any issues. It’s also a n/a vehicle.
Why would you want to vent it to atmosphere.? That would be just like driving around with an open 3/8” vacuum leak.
@@gearjonny369 There is usually a check valve in place but a vent to atmosphere is usually used on boosted applications that actually see positive vacuum. Or increased crank case pressures. Having increase crank case pressure without a vent/breather will lead to seals blowing out and knock/detonation.
@@ebkbk9902 Ok, yes I completely understand under boost or an old worn out engine with blow by. Haha
These don’t need it
That can is nice, but the fittings and hose they give you are complete shit. For a total of $100 you can buy the can, the correct AN fittings to make it pushlock and ditch those ugly ass clamps.
