Hello, thank you for listening to our music. I hope it gives you some joy and pleasure.
I am pleased that you have discovered our music through this medium. I view this experience as the equivalent of previewing a record in a record store in days of old. However, if you wish to experience the music in its' fullest form, I would strongly encourage you to acquire it in a physical format you can bring into your home. Not only will you then be able to experience the richest version of the music sonically, but you will also be afforded the opportunity to enjoy the tangible artwork, which was conceived in tandem with the music, and serves as a further portal to experiencing the total conceptual and spiritual and emotional content of the work we have labored, lovingly, to bring to you.
I love you,
- Michael Gira / Swans / Young God Records

This is a new era of Swans. You must not be familiar with Swans beyond the modern era because they were following the thematic style of Soundtracks For The Blind over the last albums and the reason MG stopped the lineup was cause it had evolved to it's period of descent. Also it took 3 years cause the man is in his mid 60s and toured relentlessly for 7 whole years so he needed a break and even then he did solo tours during that break

wooahh man that would be incredible. Also, "Just a little boy" from To be kind, was pretty lynchian already

UnitedFyodor I loved that show, I had no clue they continued it once again. Where can I view this? Netflix? Did they keep the original actors or recast the characters?
I live on an Air Force base and am experiencing this song with headphones as jets pass over my head and it really adds a fantastic depth to this already deep and vast ocean of sound.
Possibly the best band ever.
a hard battle between them, Motorpsycho and Mogwai. So have a pick then. It doesn't matter we're all going to die
Has it really been 35 years since I started listening to SWANS, A.O.L. and M. Gira?
I almost saw them in Boston in '85 at the Rat (R.I.P.) around the time of "Raping A Slave".
I thought it would be a good idea to dose on acid before entering the concert.
Then, in the course of breaking up a fight outside, I got arrested for assault and battery.
With the wisdom of time, I can probably say that handcuffed to a bench in the Charles St. cop shop was probably less destructive than enduring M.Gira's fury under the influence of LSD.
Good times!
I really liked " Children of God" and the dynamics that seemed to come about with the addition of Jarboe to the collective.
That tangent of the next four albums produced my all time fave Swans album ; "Love of Life" and its' track " The Sound of Freedom" with my all time fave lyric, " The light inside your body will shine through history, set fire to every prison, set every dead man free:" pure poetry.
Although the song " The Great Annihilator" is in the running (in my head) for the greatest song ever written.
I saw them in L.A. on the " Swans Are Dead" tour, thanks for the warning!
The soundscape album " Soundtracks for the Blind" is a great album to disappear into.
And then they were gone. A musical chapter was closed and A.O.L. was well enjoyed for their catharsis and acoustic intensity.
I saw an M.Gira solo show in Hollywood in 2000 or so and I can relate that he was still as crotchety as ever.
I stumbled, quite by chance on a copy of "My Father..." in a Music Store (remember those ) in 2010?
Joy, the SWANS were back and picked up right where "...Annihilator" ended.
Which brings us to the last nine years and the second to latest incarnation, I bought and listened to all the band albums but not all the time as this version of SWANS demanded my complete attention. I cannot multitask when listening to SWANS anymore.
I am old.
The fact that M.Gira is still around and still churning out good music is really great, not too many from that specific time and place are still around.
The fact that he is interested in playing with "new" people means to me that there will always be interesting and everchanging music coming from his camp.
Thanks to you M. Gira for being a part of the soundtrack to my life.
You have won...
Wow, short but nice view of being a long time SWANS supporter. Do you like the last albums "To be kind" and "The glowing man" ?
@@HerrTelef Yes. Yes I do, thanks for asking.

Ok. I often read comments of long time fans (also of other bands) that they only like the older stuff.
I came to Swans when "To be kind " was released and I was in love of it immediately. I going to discover their past albums for the future.
@@HerrTelef "To Be Kind" is my favorite of the new ones followed by " My Father...". "Glowing Man" for me, I felt it starting to become formulaic. Which is why it is such a great thing that M. Gira is employee "new" personnel; it keeps it fresh.

ITS HAPPENING
It's coming! It's real!
With the lyrics on To Be Kind and this song, and the title of this new album "leaving meaning", It really sounds like a Michael Gira is trying to come to terms with his old age and inevitable death. To Be Kind sounded like the first 4 stages of grief, exploding in despair and various mantras. This sounds like he's finally reached acceptance. It's crazy how well SWANS does in expressing these emotions. It's neither blind optimism nor complete pessimism. Their recent discography has a been a human, masterful collection of the spectrum of cognitive dissonance.
Exactly. I thought I was the only one who saw
that. In this new album, Gira is fighting against his own counsciousness. Kinda like a man x medium/language/format thing...
Better get the yellow flannel ready Anthony
Gonna get a new, green flannel for the first 11/10

White light is so underrated
White Light's probably my favourite Swans album.
I've often struggled to get into their last few "drone" based albums, but I love the 90's more gothic/post punk sounding stuff, White Light, Love Of Life, even the Joy Division cover that Gira dispises.

I wish I shared your perception. Every once and a while I check back in to see if any of their newer stuff does it for me, but no... this sounds as bland as Angels of Light did. Nothing after 1997 sounds like Swans to me. I'm happy for everyone who feels otherwise though, I guess.
This is so different than what Swans has done lately. Pleasant and ethereal and yet retains that moody and epic undercurrent.
It sounds like early 90s Swans and Angels of Light which is a very good thing
@@mousiedung yeah I was about to say the same thing. Reminds of the second phase of Swans career when they started having more melody in their music and less harshness.

In the place where you lay
In the shimmer above
In the rust and the oil
With your mouth full of mud
You run like a child
Through curtains of rain
In a room made of stone
Your future was made
There's nowhere to run to
You forget where you've been
Your shadow is shrinking
In the tightening lens
How many more years?
How much time is there left?
All the rivers reversed
While you counted each step
In the veins of the tree
In the strata beneath
In the polished chrome sheen
In the rebar and conrete
Reach up for the hand
Of the glowing half-man
Stand still on the edge
Of the greased precipice
Reach out
In a tunnel of steel
Fall through
It's coming, it's real
Breathe in
The glittering dust
Exhale
Mindless
Rage on, helpless
Reach out, sightless
Kneel down, fearless
Rise up, righteous
Save us, formless
Reach out, mindless
Save us, lightless
Leave us, soundless
Rise up, righteous
Save us, formless
Reach out, mindless
Save us, lightless
Rage on, fearless
Leave us, soundless
Leave us, soundless
Save us, lightless
Reach out, mindless
Save us, formless
Rise up, righteous
Kneel down, fearless
Reach out, sightless

Who care's about the size. The sound they're presenting here doesn't sound promising and the cover art is embarrassingly pretentious.
