*Comics Origin:*
In the comics, Peter Parker first encounters the symbiote during the Secret Wars event, which ran from May 1984 to April 1985. This was a massive crossover where the world’s greatest heroes and villains were teleported to Battleworld to fight each other. After one of the battles, Peter’s Spider-Man suit is damaged, so he visits the lab of Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. While in the lab, Peter finds a tube containing the symbiote, which bonds with him, forming the now-iconic black suit with the white spider emblem. In Spider-Man comics it would first appear in Amazing Spider-Man #252, released in May 1984, marking the suit’s debut.
After the heroes return to Earth, Peter continues wearing the suit through several issues of Amazing Spider-Man. However, by Amazing Spider-Man #258 (November 1984), Peter grows suspicious of the suit and takes it to Reed Richards for analysis. Reed reveals that the suit is actually a living organism, a symbiote which freaks Peter out. Using a sonic device, Reed forces the symbiote off of Peter, but it later follows him home and reattaches itself.
Realizing the symbiote won’t let go, Peter heads to a church tower and uses the sound of the bells to forcefully remove it. Unbeknownst to him, Eddie Brock is in the same church. Brock, who blames Spider-Man for ruining his journalism career after Peter exposed the true identity of the Sin-Eater (in Amazing Spider-Man #300, May 1988), becomes the symbiote’s next host, transforming into Venom.
After Peter gets rid of the symbiote, he continues wearing a fabric version of the black suit, which was created for him by Black Cat. She thought the suit was "sexy," and Peter kept it for a while. This leads to an interesting visual dynamic when Spider-Man and Venom first face off, with both of them in black and white suits. However, after Mary Jane is attacked by Venom, she understandably grows to hate the sight of Peter in the black suit. In response, Peter eventually returns to his classic red and blue costume.
*90s Animated Series Inspiration:*
The concept of the symbiote changing the personality of its host was introduced and popularized by the 90s Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which also adapted this iconic storyline but removed the Secret Wars connection. In the series, two astronauts are on a mission to an asteroid when the symbiote sneaks aboard their spaceship on the return trip to Earth. During re-entry, the symbiote attacks one of the pilots, causing them to lose control and crash-land on a bridge in New York.
Spider-Man arrives to save the day and unknowingly brings the symbiote home with him. Later, while Peter is asleep, the symbiote covers him, and he wakes up in a new black suit, dramatically looking at his reflection in a skyscraper window, similar to how it happens in Spider-Man 3.
Peter later takes the suit to Doctor Connors, who informs him that it's not just a suit but a living organism, a symbiote, echoing scenes from the film. Like in the comics and movie, Peter eventually realizes the symbiote is dangerous and heads to a church bell tower. The sound of the bell forces the symbiote off of Peter, and it falls onto Eddie Brock, who, like in the comics, blames Spider-Man for ruining his career and thus becomes Venom.
In the cartoon the shuttle pilot was John Jameson, Jonah Jamison’s son (the son who was to marry MJ in Spider-Man 2)

So, Venom, which is the name of the third villain, is a symbiote that amplifies the characteristics of it's host, yes, but after bonding with Spider-Man, he was able to replicate most of the things he was doing as Spider-Man...For example - he learned to make organic "webs" out of his own material. He also figured out how to avoid triggering Peter's Spider-Sense, which is why he could sneak attack on him so easily.
Venom can also keep the genetic memory of anyone he ever bonded with, so the moment he bonded with Eddie - Eddie knew all about MJ, Sandman, Harry, and others.
It's a bit disappointing that Harry Osborn never actually wore the traditional Green Goblin suit in Spider-Man 3, as this was a major storyline in the comics. After Norman Osborn’s death, Spider-Man initially believed Norman had returned as the Green Goblin, only to later discover it was actually Harry behind the mask. In the film, they don’t even try to hide that Harry is this “New Goblin.” Perhaps this change came about when Venom was added, shifting the focus away from Harry. Still, while the audience likely knew Harry would become the Goblin after the ending of Spider-Man 2, it would have been more impactful to see Peter and other characters believe that Norman had somehow returned, shocked at the reveal that this new Goblin was Harry.
In the comics, Norman did eventually come back, leading to some incredible storylines where he shifts from being a costumed villain to a powerful businessman. At one point, Norman even becomes the Mayor of New York City and the leader of the Dark Avengers, donning the Iron Patriot armor an Iron Man suit painted in the colors of the American flag. This concept was adapted in Iron Man 3 (2013), where James Rhodes becomes the Iron Patriot. Interestingly, after the Dark Avengers were disbanded in the comics, Rhodes also took on the Iron Patriot mantle, bringing the idea full circle between film and comic adaptations.
There’s also the Hobgoblin, an amazing character who was heavily featured in the 1990s Spider-Man: The Animated Series. The show made an interesting change by introducing the Hobgoblin before Norman Osborn even became the Green Goblin, shaking things up a bit from the comics. The Hobgoblin was brilliantly voiced by Mark Hamill, who is, of course, the iconic voice of The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series (Among others) and also known for his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.
No. It's just that the audience already knew it was Harry from how Spider-Man 2 ended. And Peter would've also thought it was Harry, because come on, he's not stupid.

Eh, gotta fast track things in the movies. Don't have several issues to get from point A to point B. Much like how in the comics it wasn't revealed that Norman was the original Green Goblin for a long time, but in the movie they show the origin from the start. The big mystery of who is the Green Goblin was great, but they don't have time for that in the movies.

Sam Raimi's vision for this movie was certainly a lot more concise than what the final product ended up as, but as a good chunk of people will surely tell you, producer Avi Arad is to blame for cramming so many characters and subplots into it, mostly because he wanted to sell toys. The movie honestly turned out pretty good in spite of the dumb executive decisions, but had it been better received initially, Raimi's plan was to continue the series with various other villains, such as Dr. Connors becoming the Lizard, his supervillain counterpart from the comics, and I believe there were also plans to bring Electro in at some point. Reportedly, the three characters played by Bruce Campbell in each of the movies (fight promoter, theater usher and french maître d') were also meant to actually be the same character, namely Mysterio disguising himself to spy on Peter, and Peter's landlord Mr. Ditkovich would turn out to be an older, retired version of Kraven the Hunter.
Spider-Man 3 was meant Sandman and Harry Osborne is the new Goblin with is Side Story finally being completed with his death but stupid Avi Arad ruined it he interfered Sam vision put Venom in because if he wanted fans to like Spider-Man 3 even more put in our favorite character Venom but Sam doesn't know Venom he said something like he tried to make it work it didn't go well and it cost Harry to be sideline we were supposed to have more of him being evil Goblin and attacking Peter with his suit glider
Little did she know that Mary Jane was the actual villain of the trilogy.

I’m not sure if you will reply to my comment but In the original draft of Spider-Man 3 Sam rami wanted to do the villain the vulture we were still going to have sandman the actor that would have played vulture was Ben Kingsley and there was even concept art of vultures wings
What I didn't like about Spiderman 3 is 1) wrong actor playing Eddie Brock 2) Venom should've ended after being revealed because that's a movie entirely in itself just fighting Venom alone 3) Cain Marko/Sandman is a street criminal not the softy in the movie...they took bits and pieces from the original story between Parker, the symbiote and Brock/Venom.

Well, mostly an end-credit scene.
Brock hated Spiderman for exposing a lie he printed in the Bugle on a serial killer which he lost his job, apartment and relationship...the symbiote hated him because it was rejected by Spiderman because in a crazy way it developed an emotional bond sensing the hatred from Brock they bonded becoming Venom and the symbiote told him everything about Parker/Spiderman and can even block his spider sense from detecting him.
Many issues with the movie as you mentioned some, but is still nice conclusion. Btw the "Emo Peter" is a well known meme, we call him "Bully Mcguire" x'd
And as a commenter pointed out earlier, he is emo and RIDICULOUS because at the end of the day, he still quirky dummy Peter right, so he acts as he believes a cool guy would act. It is kinda overcrowded in this movie, how we have like 3-5 separate plotlines on it (which is my personal biggest criticique on the movie)
Also, i THINK you haven't reacted to the Venom movies. If that's the case i think you should watch them as well (the 3rd one is comming out soon). It is kind of "its own universe", even separate from Tom Holland's Spiderman, but is still cool and funny saga and Tom Hardy does a great job as Eddie. I do think you'll like them c:

If you take a step back, MJ is really hard to take. Through 3 movies, she mistreats three different guys who really did love her. It's fine if she doesn't know what she wants yet, but don't string anybody along in the meantime.
I would've liked this movie more if they didn't bring in Venom. It should've stayed focused on Peter's struggle with vengeance and to reject the worse side of himself. Venom vs Spiderman should've been a whole other movie. Also, Topher Grace as Eddie Brock? Raimi did a great job of casting everyone else. This was a mistake.

I don't know if you play video games much but there's a really good Spider-Man game on PC and PlayStation 4/5 and it's sequel is currently only on ps5 but I'm sure it'll eventually get a PC release as well
The original story Spidey and a few other heroes and villains was picked and teleported to an alien planet by a celestial being (The Beyonder) to see who'd win good or evil... that's how Spidey came across the symbiote because he thought it was an alien AI suit that enhanced his abilities and strength not knowing at the time that it was alive and a bonding type parasite...he brought it back to earth and had for a few years until he discovered what it really was.
One of the few things that kept accurate from the original story of how the merged with him while he was sleeping 😴 and most people forget that Gwen was his first love...MJ came years later.
When they bonded it kept the strength and abilities of Spiderman but stronger and allowing Brock to use it only when the symbiote comes out other than that he's just back to human.
Not sure who has more fun watching these movies the first time: long-time fans like me who for example knew about Flint Marko/Sandman from when they were little kids (in my case over 60 years years ago now) and so already have some idea what to expect or people like you who knew virtually nothing about Sandman or Venom until they actually see them for the very first time in this movie. But it seems to me these kinds of superhero movies can be enjoyed by anyone either way.
Btw Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer is established only in this movie; the comic book version had absolutely nothing to do with it at the time and afaik never since either.
If you haven't seen the Green Mile and Powder you should check them out but I must warn you you're gonna need a lot of tissue they're a tear jerker 😢
That Sandman reveal could legitimately be it's own short movie. Just brilliantly shot and filled with emotion.
As others have said, they tried to cram too much into this one, so it's very convoluted. I also share the opinion of others, that they should have killed off MJ and had Peter get with Ursula instead. That girl worshipped him, and she deserved Peter's love more than MJ ever did.
if you wanna learn more about spidey highly recommend the show spectacular spider-man it's one of the best portrayals of the spidey comics. its only 26 episodes long because it got cancelled before they could finish it.
It was a good watchable movie don't get me wrong I just get pissed when the studios create useless storytelling.

the thing about peter parker, if someone dies and he could have saved them, he blames himself. it's why he tried to let mj go in 1 and 2. and mj knew that when they started dating
I'm not in full agreement about Tobey being most authentic to the comics. Growing up Spiderman was my favorite and I read a lot of his stories. I still stand by Tom Holland being closest even though I love Andrew and Tobey to death.
Tom has been a great Peter.. but he really hasn't had the kinds of struggles that the traditional Spiderman has had. No Uncle Ben, no Gwen Stacy, No Norman and Harry turning against him. He's had Tony Stark in his life and isn't working a low paying job to put himself through school. He got the girl and she knows his secret identity. Up until this point in the MCU, he's had it pretty easy. (Please don't reply with spoilers)

This was such a amazing trilogy. I liked the following Spiderman as well but this one will always be the Og. Parker (on Screen)
Peter hitting MJ wasn't on purpose and is kind of her own fault for jumping in in the middle of a fight. What else did she expect? He thought it was another person coming to fight him. While that isn't okay that he did hit her. It's not peters fault. When the black goo took over brock. He became venom.

Just wanna point out that all solo Spider-Man movies are Sony films. The deal between Disney & Sony means all of the box office from those Spider-Man films 100% goes back directly to Sony who in turn also pay for the films to be made by Marvel Studios.
You will have to pry Spider-Man from it's cold dead hands if Disney ever want him back due to the $'s involved.
Disney get a cut of the $'s from merchandise of the films & they get a loan of the character in the MCU but ultimately Sony have final say on ANY Spider-Man story in film, animation or games
This is a marriage of convenience for Sony & they say yes or no to their direction.
As long as it keeps being profitable I cannot see them EVER letting Spider-Man go which is perfectly understandable with a cash cow like this character

I'm glad you liked Spider-Man 3. From what I hear. It was originally supposed to be a very different movie. For example, the director Sam Raimi wanted different villains. He wanted to use the Vulture. Who we saw in Spider-Man Homecoming. And the Black Cat, whom we have yet to see in a live action movie. Apparently the studio forced the director to use Venom. It's funny that you were first on-board with emo Peter Parker 😅 I get what you mean though. At first we wasn't really doing anything bad and he wasn't letting anyone walk all over him like normal. I think it's an okay movie but definitely the weakest of the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy. Can't wait for you to continue on your Spidey journey 🕷🕸

The actual Venom movies do the Venom character better, and more like he is in the comic books.
You pretty much nailed it with the "too many villains" thing. The studio was adamant about including Venom and basically forced Sam Raimi to add in the Eddie Brock storyline. He was never happy about it and openly admits his heart wasn't totally in directing this movie, and was never happy with the finished movie.
I don't think the problem is too many villains - there's plenty of great movies with even more, especially so if you venture outside just the superhero genre. The problem here is more that the movie has multiple stories it's trying to tell, rather than using those characters to create a unified story, IMO.
@@TheRawrnstuff Basically yeah. I think "too many villains" is a short hand version of what you said. Not so much too many villains but too many villain stories. We get the origin story of 2 of them, basically an origin story of the third, along with losing that villain getting them back, and THEN even a redemption arc. And Venom is a long story in itself with the bonding and then being unattached to become the villain. You could EASILY make a whole movie of that alone. And none of it ties into the personal problems he's having, which are a big part of Spider-Man stories but most meld them pretty well. We have a few future movies with more villains, but the movie is one integrated storyline of them.

In regards to Venom, I recommend watching/reacting to the 90's Spiderman Animated Series if you want information on Spiderman lore. Its a great show, close to comic book accurate and actually inspired a lot of these movies.
If Raimi had wanted to do Venom (not blaming him for not wanting to) and didn't have it forced on him, with the introduction of John Jameson in 2, they had such a perfect setup to do the animated series version of Venom.
Swap some things around, like having Harry be the guy he's about to kill instead of Rhino, have Sandman be the one to try and loot the shuttle, the public turns on him after John dies in the shuttle crash cause he was such a beloved figure which is why he latches onto using the suit more, etc. (remove the whole "Flint was actually the one to kill Ben" plot line)
30:00 Spiderman 3 is from 2007, wich means the're probably were filming during 2005/2006. At this time, the Emo look was high in fashion. Peter's make up look like Gerard Way from My Chamical Romance (wich released their iconic album The Black Parade at end of 2006) Other big bands like Panic!AtThe Disco and Green Day, that have similar hair and clothing aesthetic, had iconic albuns being released between Spiderman 2 and 3. The EMO moviment carried a lot of the experiences of young people who loved pop punk. That's why its abreviation to "emotional hardicore". So that angry/edgy atitude was associated to their aesthetic. Emos are people who talk about their emotions offen in a passionate and agressive way and it was actually considered disruptive at the time. I was like, 12 whem these band blown up, and was great. So, probably, Sam Raimi got a sense of this thing and borrowed the aesthetic to represent Bully Maguire (blacksuit spiderman/venon). Because he's really being a emo, weaponizing his pain and emotions because he feel the whole world turned back on him. Good stuff. IDK if you're into emo, but My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade and Green Day's American Idiot are masterpieces.
For those who don't know this film was scored by Christopher Young. Young came on board after Raimi used his arrangement instead of Danny Elfman's in the Spider-Man 2 train sequence.
Elfman was very upset & it would be years until they would work together again due to it.
Elfman did not cover it up, the Spider-Man 2 original OST has Elfman's train sequence theme & not the used (in film version) Christopher Young arrangement heard in the movie
Spider-Man 3 was a cool movie. But there was moments I didn't expect would happened from the movie. For example, Harry Obsorn never wore the Green Goblin suit in Spider-Man 3 and Venom would have been able to eat people like Tom Hardy's Venom.
When I was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s, there was a live action series on television called the Amazing Spiderman. It only ran for a couple of seasons (a season was 26 episodes in one year, like every show back then) It starred Nicholas Hammond as Peter Parker. (1977-1979)
As much as I absolutely hate spiders, Spider-Man is my favorite and I always wanted to be him as a kid. I rewatch all the movies on a regular basis (S3 and NWH are my favorites, I can’t wait to see what the next movie will be like.) Great reaction as always!
I just realised, I don't think Cristy has seen the two Venom movies yet. Whilst it is only a small bit in "No Way Home", they really should be seen first. Cristy, I'd suggest, if you have time, that you react to them before seeing NWH, even if the reactions aren't posted till after. That way you can finish off Spider Month on schedule while still getting the most out of NWH.

The symbiote is Venom. Venom took on Spider-Mans abilities and copied the suit as a way to mock Spidy. Eddie Brock hates Spider-Man to the core, so since Venom enhances the hosts attributes. Venom hates Spider-Man.

Amazingly Bryce Dallas-Howard was unknowingly pregnant with her 1st child during filming & she did the majority of her own stunts in the crane sequence.
Years later she has said she looks back on it being miraculous that her unborn child was completely unaffected as she excitedly threw herself into the action
Please do not apologize for crying. It's okay to have feelings. It's okay to be sad. It is far, far healthier letting it out, not just because you feel better afterwards, but because crying gets rid of chemicals that can actually damage the brain, so it's physically healthier to let it out. I guess they didn't really do a good job introducing Venom. Venom really needs one on one time with Peter to really explain why Venom behaves the way it does. There is a Venom movie series that is okay, but it doesn't really do the comic version justice. It might be worth finding a youtube video explaining comic Venom.
Yea I’ll be the first to admit that I really don’t like this movie that being said I enjoyed it more than Tom Hollands 2-3 Spider-Man’s but this is definitely one of the weaker ones for me.
Because Venom (the goo) is a parasite, it absorbs from it's hosts. It carried the spider DNA in itself when it moved on to Brock.
Way too much going on in this movie. Among other things, the Harry losing his memory and becoming normal for a bit can be dropped, since they are just going to get him back to bad Harry/Goblin anyway.
This movie made me feel something too. Dumb for having sat through it all.
I look at black suited Spider-man as more of an anti-hero in this movie than a villain

Houses do shake if there close to a train line my sister lived beside the cork Dublin train line and they are going fast and her house vibrated badly to the point it cracked her house over time
