I didn't listen to the negative Amazon reviews. My thought process was that these complaining persons almost certainly failed to follow your specific instructions. You rock, Joel. This helpful UA-cam video provides the perfect supplementary personal guide to your already superb customer service. This video covered everything I hoped you would cover. Informative. Comprehensive. Practical.
Excellent video. I purchased plants twice from Joel, and they come well-packed exactly as shown in this video. 2 years later, my original 5 plants have multiplied to about 40, after following basic VFT care instructions. Awesome hobby!
I bought one of the plants from Joel a couple of weeks ago through Amazon and it is thriving. I already had bought one locally last summer. It is still doing well. I learned what I could through google at the time. I appreciate the instructions included and the video.
Which is precisely the difference between those who successfully care for their VFT's, and those who fail to raise a healthy vibrant addition to their indoor house-plants.
Just received my plants and just want to say how much I appreciate the detailed instructions you sent with the package as well as all these videos you post to help newbies like me learn how to pot and nurture these cool lil' guys. Well done!
I love my fly trap I got from you on amazon. Such great quality and so large and healthy. Love the well thought out instructions and supporting "small"(as in not owned by a corporation) business owners such as yourself.
I appreciate the video! The directions were so clear i could have made this video. I did notice the closed traps, but since potting i have noticed some have openned.
Just received mine - good info. I use reverse osmosis water so the RO/DI filter I have for my marine aquarium comes in handy. A TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter is easy to use to ensure the mineral content of the water is low/safe for VFT plant.
Good stuff! I've wanted one of these since I was kid and saw them for the first time. A plant that eats flesh!!!! Nature is a mad scientist! Just got my first one in the mail. Thinking about setting a streaming camera in a Raspberry Pi to track its progress, monitor it and maybe...if things start going south...get some advice and help from the VFT community😀. I live in Metro Phoenix and did my research. VFTs can survive and even thrive here but... gonna need some extra TLC! I'm so excited. Can use the Raspberry Pi as well to monitor humidity levels, water level and even send me alerts! Gonna tech this puppy up to keep it going. Flies beware!!! We about to fight back....bwaaaaaahahaahhah!
I bought vft's from 3 sellers, his are the best I got two years later they are much bigger than the rest, the three I received are now six, each having a second offshoot. I mostly bought these because they came with clear planting and care instructions. Although I did break one of your rules I kept them in a greenhouse for dormancy reaching temps down to 10 degrees F, they handle cold well below freezing temps really well.
Excellent vendor, 'CAREFUL VENDOR', follows up with customer. What you watched here I just did tonight after delivery. Read the instructions as well as watch this video. Thanks!
I got 1 medium size B52 from them 4 days ago on the 6th of Wednesday here in Burien Washington State from ebay.. They're indeed an excellent vendor.. My only complaints about them is the condition of the plant when you receive it in the mail.. They pack your bare rooted traps so tightly inside the box that it snaps all of the trap's "Cilia," or some people may call it eyelash, or the trap's teeth. Every single one of my traps have their Cilias snapped in half just because the plant's been packed too tight with little protection inside the box.. Not to mention you'll have to manually plant your fly traps yourself because it's bare rooted and not potted when you receive em. I am fully aware the plant's rhizomes are a main concerns for these guys, and nothing else, but am leaning towards the looks or the presentation of the plant when you plant it in a pot for looks sake..
Wonderful plants, and very clear instructions. Thank you. Just a tip, RO water is not equivalent to distilled water. For that, you need RODI water, which is deionized.
@@bean2636 oh boy lemme tell ya. The plant just kept multiplying it’s rhizome and now I have like 90 flytraps now. I’m gonna try selling them to people as a side hustle soon once I get an operation going. Also these things get gigantic. Like I knew what I was getting into when I bought mine but I was still surprised at how big they got
Just purchased one from your eBay. Pretty stoked! I got one from a store in those plastic cases and it’s doing surprisingly well. My new ones were very tall and stood on their own when I received them, but now they’re very droopy:flimsy and appear to be turning yellowish. I have followed all your steps so we will see what happens in a few days. Thank you for the VFT and this video.
So far my plant is on the upwards towards them rising on their own. It takes a few weeks just for them to get their strength. A few do turn black but I am leaving them in tact. A lot of smaller ones growing in the middle and are strong, The other adult ones are slowly gaining strength. I'm using an lizard light so they get consistent light. Appears to be working.
I grow my Venus Fly Traps, VFT, Dionaea Muscipula, inside and I would rather feed mine dehydrated meal worms or blood worms. Most meal worms I have found are for chickens or birds and seem to have extra nutrients added. Where do you people get your meal worms, or blood worms? Are there special meal worms or blood worms for the VFT, or will any dehydrated meal worms do?
ok, I've been watching alot of videos on the VFT, now you leave yours in just the moss but others say to remove it and plant it in peat moss with permite, are both true and if so which is better
Joel: There are 2 main ways to grow VFTs. They can be grown in a mix of peat/perlite or peat/sand. When this method is used there has to be a pool of water that the pot sits in during the warmer half of the year but it does not need to be there during the cooler half of the year. The other method is to grow them in long fibered sphagnum moss. When you use LFS moss the pool of water must be present year round. I've used both and VFTs will definitely grow faster in the LFS moss. Plus it is easier to accurately regulate how much water they need with it since the pool of water used year round.
Hey Joel i have a question! I don't have much sunlight in my room and I was wondering if I could still grow a healthy flytrap with a grow lamp from amazon thanks!
What conditions are your VFT’s grown in? My B52’s adjusted nicely outside but the dentate’s upright growth died off : ( I adjusted it slowly.. Does Dentate not like sphagnum moss? I’ll definitely order from you again!
When I took mine from the wet cloth (i got four in the bag) I separated them is that okay? I've seen alot of people just take them out and don't separate them is that bad because now I'm worried..
I need someone to answer this soon! Can you keep these Venus flytrap plants indoors? I still give them 2-3 flies each day and keep it safely next to my window with the sun shining on it. I give it distilled water and always make sure it's moist. Also, it came in a small paper cup with draining holes at the bottom (obviously) and do I need to move it to a better solid pot? Plz respond I got one 2 days ago and still a newbie with these plants!
Question: Other channels say if you keep your traps in a window they will just die. They say they wont get enough direct light and will not experience the necessary temp changes required for the plant to go through a winter/summer cycle. They say they "must be kept outside and get 12 or more hours a day of 'direct sunlight' per day min." You way seems the most simple. Thoughts?
I live in an apt but all my windows are north-facing, I saw a CFL hanging near your window in the video. Could I use this and a timer as extra light, as I can't even let it be outside as someone would steal it on the 1st day?
Thanks for the clear and helpful video! Can these grow outdoors? I have a covered patio that gets morning sun where flies love to buzz around, and I'd like to put my plant out there.

Do you have to replace the wet moss with new wet moss at any point? If so, how often? And how would you do that without damaging the plant?
Sam S yearly. After each dormancy. Carefully remove the moss from the roots, even if it takes a long time do it.
I generally transplant into new medium every year but you could probably go longer.
My moss is in a bag with the plant. So I have to open it to get to the moss, will the VFT be ok then?

HELP! my pants are very limp 😢
why would a clay pot be dangerous for the plant?
stektirade they leach minerals and salts into the soil, this is bad for the plant and can kill it
