      Another thing, that I need to consider, which isn't mentioned in this video, is aspect ratios, and normal resolutions, so I would want either an oled or IPS display, 16x9, only, no 18x9, normal resolutions, such as 1280x720p,1920x1080p, 2560x1440p and 3840x2160p, just to name a few, 4gb/6gb or 8gbs of RAM, mainly I just want it to fly through anything I'm doing, also battery life and weight needs to be lite, also 15inches or above screen size wise, if the screens not 55inches, or above 18x9 isn't/shouldn't be an option, I wouldn't want 18x9 anyway, but 16x9 ONLY, 1920x1080p or 2560x1440p, would probably be best, for battery life. Anyway this kind of needs to be mentioned.

    I switched to a Pixelbook for work a few months ago, and honestly, I don’t think I can go back to anything else. It’s hard to put a finger on what it is exactly that makes it so great, but the intangibles of the Pixelbook are second to none.

    • @MrDarren690
      @MrDarren690 5 років тому +1

      I believe it follows the same concept of emergence. For example, the Verge’s “This Is My Next” episode on Chromebooks (now outdated) ruled the Acer Chromebook R11 the best Chromebook due to it having “the best combination of features” at the time. It doesn’t have the best screen, or the keyboard, or the best specs, or even rock-solid build quality, but when put together they come forth to bring an excellent user experience.
      The Pixelbook follows the same story-silicone palm rests, 3:2 (which is still a “weird” resolution to some people) screen, the glass shade on the lid, aluminum build, huge storage, Y-series 7th gen processors-but this time, those combination of features are a huge step up from the R11. Again, it doesn’t have the best screen (Pixel Slate takes that), or the best build (that glass shade, functional as it is, is still liable for easy breakage), or the best specs (all mid-range and premium Chromebooks released in the past 6 months beat the Pixelbook in CPU/RAM/storage), but its the emergent experience of using all of this that makes it great to use.
      t. Pixelbook owner
      P.S. The keyboard, as I did not note under the “not the best” list, cannot be matched by any other Chromebook on the market! :)

    Speakers louder than most laptops I use. The pixel book it's great in many aspects but The Acer wins in 2 really ones the sound is so much louder and it's got a bigger screen plus it's cheaper too with the processors compared to pixel book.

    --- when buying Chromebooks ALWAYS look on
    Auto Update policy
    Chrome devices receive automatic updates regularly that enhance both the device itself and the software on the device. Chrome device updates are designed to be simple for the user and, therefore, include updates to the device, Chrome operating system, browser and firmware. However, end-to-end updates for all our devices to ensure the highest levels of security requires dependencies on many third-party hardware and software providers so we cannot indefinitely ensure that older Chrome devices will receive updates to enable new OS and browser features.

    Aluminum production is the most polluting for the climate that exists. For me, security of a chromebook is paramount. Pay attention to this during the purchase.

    Got a Acer Chromebook 14 for work from back in 2016 second hand, and I like it so far, but update ends in 2021. For 200 us it beats tons of entry level ones today, I bet with a core I 3 7 series cpu and 8g ram in side it would use the os far beyond 2021.

    I've now had my PixelBook for a year and two months. Although I LOVE the design in terms of its weight and size, there are a lot of known issues with them! After a year, mine no longer charges, nor does it power on. It's essentially broken... No longer functional. For a product in the 1000$ price range, these problems are far too frequent... No support either, no repair solutions. It's unfortunate.

    Bought my first Chromebook a refurbed Lenovo X131e because I have been tired of widows for a couple of years and then went Linux but after my 3rd distro crashed after an update I gave Linux up. I was thinking Mac but I managed to avoid having to drink the kool-aid. The good thing about this old Thinkpad is that the updates will no longer happen. Because it is passed the cycle.

    I was thinking about getting a Google Chromebook until I heard about the End Of Life. The end of life is 5 years after the laptop was made. So no software updates. I was thinking that if I get a Samsung Chromebook Plus, it will be vulnerable to new viruses. Any suggestions?

    Got a second hand Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-532 ~$100 for pretty much unused condition - curious of Chrome OS and what development tools it has (crouton/crostini, android apps and whatnot). Higher end models seems to follow the same idea of using odd components combo way to often putting them in the same price point as high quality Windows tablets with M.2 and Thunderbolt... and like new AMD Chromebooks with ancient AMD CPU -_-
    Maybe someone will make a chromebook/Full Linux performance system at a good price-point ;) software developers machine.
