Learning Avril 14th (Aphex Twin) On Piano In 10 Hours

  • I documented myself learning Avril 14th by Aphex Twin in 10 hours. The sound quality would have been better with a sustain pedal on the keyboard and also a better microphone but of these two things I have neither. It's a peaceful and slow song with a tempo that was hard to maintain and as such I found learning it pretty difficult.

You're an inspiration to piano practicers everywhere! I've been there too doing the same thing, and I'm very glad that you documented your experience to show how normal these feelings are.

Haha this was me yesterday. Repeated the first riff for like 4 hours. Luckily nobody was home. Have to learn the rest still but I got that part nailed down.

Dude, I just recently attempted this, and I didn't put in as much time, and didn't get nearly as far along as you, but wow! I love it. You give me the motivation to try harder at learning piano pieces. I just have a crappy keyboard like you too haha!

. Unfortunately, for those without formal training, it takes much longer to get a hold of a picece. Once you do, it's difficult to enjoy it, since all the focus goes into trying to pin the right keys. Nonetheless, feels good. Props to you for making it; I tried and the melody started to lose meaning due to repetition before I was able to play barely any of it.
Have fun playing it on every given occasion there is a piano around and hearing people go "Whoaa" at your mad skills.

I did this synthesia stuff for a few years and took forever to learn a few songs a few I have forgot. I have been taking piano lessons for a few months with a proper teacher and he taught me to read music. Man it was slower at first but now it’s a whole lot faster. I tried doing synthesia today and wanted to shoot myself since it was so slow. Sheets help with retention since the notes are always there, they don’t disappear like with videos. There is tons of reasons to learn sheets, I enjoy what I learn more, learn faster (I think), and retain the song better! It seems like less effort, I know what you mean by stressing to hit every key right, it sucks!
Sheets helps take away that since it ingrains the song. When I look at sheets I picture where my hand would go (after a LOT of time). I only learned two songs from sheets so far but it’s far easier and efficient than synthesia ever was.
Synthesia is grinding against the grain
