- Our 2015 tacoma had a broken window tab, and the dealer wanted $430.00 to fix it.
So we ordered one from California for $50.00 and I fixed it myself.
I did manage to wack my hand in the window frame by accidentally hitting the auto down, so try to avoid that step....
Your video helped a lot. It show
It showed me what I needed to know to replace my shattered window.
Definitely a worthwhile video.
Thanks.
Glad it helped. Sorry you lost a window…..
I got to do my widow ..it got smashed and my truck looted a few days ago ...thanks for the video
I almost died when we got the estimate from the dealer…….this was a much better way to go…..
I like your video but I wish I could see more closer to what was getting done.
@@colleenholliday9208 Yea, filming alone does have its downsides.
Good Job! I bet you saved a lot of money. I know you gave a figure in a previous post. I had to fix a Gotrax hover board last minute. Opened the box to charge it and heard rattling and a found a reflector pushed into the body. I opened it up and found a screw loose and the hot glue that held the reflector in was an after thought by the manufacturer because they apparently ran out of screws which were supposed to hold the reflector on. Things are assembled so poorly these days. The parts looked to be of good quality. Just shoddy assembly.
Yup, from the stealership, they wanted $430.00 for a new window installed. Keep in mind, that the window was not broken. Their "state of the art" body shop could have replaced that tab for about $8.00. (They they could have hit me with $200 in labor, and I still wouldn't have flinched.)
I just didn't have the materials, or the desire to smell epoxy in the house for half the night.
Bummer about the hoverboard, they know that it only has to last long enough to make it through the shipping process......
Great job Jim , MERRY CHRISTMAS !! .. Good to have working windows , ENJOYED .. Spare the hand next time though.. LOL..
ShawnMrFixitlee Yea, I should have had my wife operate the window.
I think shes a little softer on buttons than I am... ;-) merry Christmas to you as well!
Thank you
Mine luckily just lost bolt in back track 🙃😳
Yea, that’s what I was originally hoping for. Be sure to use some loctite though. They vibrate loose a lot quicker than they should.
@@JimsEquipmentShed all I could find was Teflon tape, hopefully it works 🥴🤞
Thats probably not going to help, as thats more to make things water tight, and not really designed to keep bolts from moving.
Even something like paint, or fingernail polish will work fairly well if you have access to something like that.@@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors
@@JimsEquipmentShed gonna have to replace motor soon anyway. I'll be prepared then
@@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors it will save a very expensive window… ;-)
Thanks for saving us three hundred bucks!
Not a problem, if I had been able to get the clip and adhesive from the dealer, it would have cost probably less than $20.00 to fix it.
Sadly, they don’t supply those, and aftermarket plastic parts can be questionable at times.
That’s why I went for the entire window.
My passenger window is pushing against the door panel.. this helps so i can look inside there
@@Eleven-dk4be It’s also probably what the problem might be. Those tabs are really pretty lame.
In the good old days, you could buy a kit with tabs and epoxy for like $12.00.
Times change I guess…
@@JimsEquipmentShed they do indeed for more plastic lol
Trying to find out why my 2014 Driver window is showing "grease" lines on inside. Real light smudge lines. I have had mine apart and checked just what is rubbing against it? I did not check my window track bolts. Window runs smooth so not too sure my issue? Im also guessing reason Driver side and not same on Passenger side due to DS door used more. Something is miss aligned or loose.
If one of the securing bolts is out, you should be able to tell by just trying to lift the window manually while it's about half way up. If it moves at all, one of the bolts is probably out.
Great video! I know I’m late to the game here, but I have a 2015 Tacoma double cab and both of the rear windows are having the same issue with uneven alignment in the window track. Would there be the same broken tabs issue with the rear windows? I’m hoping not to have replace both windows if possible. Thanks for any info!
If you are lucky, maybe the bolts just fell out. Toyota didn’t use any lock tite, so that what side the actual problem.
I’d take a look and see first.
I’ll check that out first. Thank you very much for getting back to me!!
@@garthvadr good luck!
Should have torqued those bolts to spec...
I no longer have an inch pound torque wrench, so I go with one and one half ugga-dugga....
Marry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well Paul!
I just did my window on my RAV4. The 10mm bolts came out on the tabs...
Russ K The front tab broke off on ours, and the back bolt eventually worked its way loose. I was hoping it was going to make it until summer.
What year is your truck ?
