Truthfully I used to do a lot of drugs when I needed an escape then one day I got reminiscent about my younger years before the drugs and I used to love growing things so one day I bought 3 orchids and then some more and more and I realized i still have a very green thumb so now I try to spend any of my extra money that I would on illicit things I spent on plants and pot and soil and stuff. The balance soon shifted to where now most of my money goes to my plants and I find that I’m a lot less stressful than I’ve been in years and I’ve got all these beautiful living things that need me and I’m entrusted in making sure I provide them everything they need to live every day. Orchids are great for recovery...succulents not so much.
The past few years I’ve referred to myself as the human “whack a mole”! I pop my head up to experience the world and life firmly whacks me on the head until I’m back in my hole! Thus, what do I do when overwhelmed? Pets, plants and if I’m very lucky... a bit of Betsy Begonia who is somehow equal parts intelligent and incredibly humorous - a rare combination indeed. Would love for you to do a Q&A video as I spend many hours pondering such thoughts as “Is Betsy a botanist from Boston who bounded to Belgium to begin anew?” (Paris doesn’t BEGIN with a “b” after all) 😳 Seriously though, would love to know more about you! Also, since there seem to be no Hoyas available in Wisconsin except the Carnosa, I’ve just ordered 4 plants on my wishlist from Pistils Nursery in Portland (didn’t even plan the alliteration there)! Obovata, Kerii, Publicalyx and Compacta are en route in 6” pots. I’ve no idea what to do for them once here so any tips appreciated! GLAD YOU ARE BACK! 💕
First of all, you've delighted me. Second, if you look in my history, you'll see I did a rather early Q&A that might fulfill your desires: ua-cam.com/video/axViEWMPt48/v-deo.html I truly appreciate your watching my videos and your feedback.Thank you. 💚
I just found you after searching and watching many other Hoya plant videos. Your videos are by far the best! Your personality, stories, and knowledge is entertaining and educational.
It's always a cause for debate but I see now that if there's any trouble in re-potting, soaking in water solves the issue. I wouldn't pot certain Hoya in terracotta like H. bella or H. lacunosa, but I imagine H. carnosa or H. compacta would do fine since they retain a lot of water and can dry out a bit.
Have you done a video on rooting cuttings yet ? The ziplock bag method that I’ve seen you talked about ? Mine sprouts roots along the stems and I have no idea how to pot it lol
I'm glad you're back. My feed felt so empty without you and Danielle. When I need to decompress I usually spend money I don't have on more plants. I like repotting and watering and pampering my plants.
Hello Betsy, i bought a Hoya Carnosa about 4 days ago. I'm concerned because i usually trust the medium potting mix most of my plants come in, but seeing as how this is my first Hoya ever, i noticed that your soil is completely different from my Hoyas soil, mine seems to be in a all Orchid bark potting medium. Should i repot my hoya, and perhaps use that same bark it came in, but add cactus soil to sort of help retain a tad bit more moisture as opposed to full on bark?
How often do you water them when they were in those small terracotta pots? I have mine in those small pots and they dry out too fast! Like I have to water them twice or thrice a week
Glad you’re back! Hope things settle down for you. Always enjoy your videos. I’m going to have to mix me some Hoya soil like yours! I’ve only managed to collect about 8 hoyas so far. My snow caps actually bloomed recently!
So glad I decided to check out your channel, I was referred here by Stef Hall, she said you have such great humor, and she was right, I couldn't stop laughing from the get go. Thank you for keeping it real, and the way I decompress is besides my plants and cats, I am an artist and I love to draw, all kinds of things and I'm a detail freak so I draw intricate things and love it. Thanks for the humor and I will see you in your next one, Bye for now.
Could you do a video for potting/repotting in general? It always makes me nervous that I'll injure a plant when they're established and I try to repot them.
Sure! I can get kind of brutal when it comes to cleaning those roots and my plants always bounce back after a week so I'd happily show this when I can. Thank you so much for the suggestion.
Hi Betsy! Good to see you! Glad to hear things are looking up in your life. To decompress I work out, take a walk, pray, get off by myself for awhile, talk to a friend who I know will listen and encourage.
Hi Betsy, So happy you're back and you were missed! Happy to hear you were able to get away, decompress and relax! Love these kind of videos chatting, a little history, humor, drinking, and planting! Take care and see ya in the next one!💚😄🌱🌿🍷
So very funny and enjoyed your repotting video very much. And of course it being almost 20 minutes loved that. Glad your back and glad your cats are doing better. Love your Hoyas. Thanks for sharing 😀
Betsy - You're funny as heck :) Love your videos which I recently discovered while looking for useful info on growing plants, in particular hoyas. Keep on!
I love all your tiny leaf hoyas. They are my favorite species. The smallest one I have is a curttsii I ordered offline and it didn't come as it should but I love it. I want to collect many more
Omg i am so scared to plant my hoya in a terracotta because i have heard it ruins the roots. I need someones reallllll experience i love terracotta i love how it breathes i love how i have to water my peace lily more often vs when it was in a plastic pot. Im scared to pot my hoya in terra cotta now. Do u suggest plastic or ceramic?
Thanks Betsy 🥰. This is a very informative video; I just reported my Hoya plants & noticed that I have 4 instead of 3; one of them is a Hoya kerrii. I also transferred from clay to plastic. Can't wait to see your other videos.
I’m late to this video! i’m glad to hear 2019 is easing up a little, and I hope it’s kinder from here on out! For me, when lots of things seem bad or out of control, I try to focus on the good things, especially good things that happened specifically because I did them. A good example is my double impatiens cutting, which I saved from near death (it got root rot on its very first roots, the poor thing)! It helps me to remember that I’ve got the heart, mind, and moxie to make it through whatever’s plaguing me. Best of luck!
Hi...so I just started my hoya journey. I have 2 queens, 1 pubacalyx and 1 basic carnosa. Well.. one queen has a lime green color and the other has deep green leaves which are more rounded shape... is that normal??
No Problem! Also I got my first staghorn fern last week! Im super excited! Im planning on mounting it this weekend. (there has to be a better way of saying that...) @@betsybegonia
Great to have you back. You've been missed. I hope all is well with you. THIS is how to do a plant video (at least in my opinion). A little bit of description of the process and the story behind it, a little bit of taxonomy, a little bit of natural history of the plant, and a little bit of humour. Well done Betsy! (My spell checker seems to be British as it spells humour with a U)
Things really are going well, I had a tough month but I am so happy to get back into the swing of things. I love this hobby. Thank you so much for watching as always. 💚
Hi Betsy ~ I've been watching your videos for quite a while now, but haven't commented before. I literally LOVE your videos! I'm glad your back. Your sense of humor is fabulous and makes me laugh a lot and your knowledge on plants is top notch. Hopefully the rest of 2019 is much better for you. For decompressing, I look for your videos and other plant videos. They never fail to make me feel better. BTW, I'm glad your cats are doing better, too. I noticed that the plastic pots had a lot of fairly good sized holes in them. Did you line the bottoms to help keep the soil mix in? I need to repot some hoyas that I've had for a long time. I have one in a pot with a saucer and the others are in pots that sit in decorative pots and I bottom water them. Not sure which is best..... Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hi Sandy! Thank you so much for watching my channel. I do not put anything in the bottom to cover the holes at all. I don't have any problems with soil getting everywhere personally, it seems to stay put. When it comes to watering, I think it depends on the plant. I hear it's best to bottom-water African violets but only because tap water can brown their leaves.
My Hoya chelsea and Obovata are in terracotta. Helps me keep from overwatering them. My serpens won't go in terracotta, I killed my last one by forgetting to water it for a few weeks.
Hi there! I just buy Agroflash houseplant fertilizer from my local garden center. In my video history I do indeed have a garden center tour of the place I like in Paris, you can check it out! 🙂
@@margiemcpeak9304 It's a fun idea but since Paris is so incredibly crowded (it's difficult to walk through any shop without getting elbowed 800 times) and shop keepers get weird about taking videos in their shops, it can be a little difficult to plan and execute. I'll try it again in the future. 🙂
Hello dear Betsy 🤗.I missed your videos. I am happy that you're back. I am having some problems with my hoya's. One of the plant it has lots of new leafs now,but the other one not.I don't know what is happening. 🤗
@@betsybegonia Hi Betsy 🤗I don't know. It is still cold in Romania, and they are both in the same room. The soil wich in they are potted is the same.🤔Have a wonderfull day. 🤗
Glad your back, we missed you. I think you have drank a tad bit too much wine 🤣. Wow 27 different Hoya’s, you must list them all. Must be a lot we can’t get in the US I decompress planting my succulents and cacti, and of course Hoya’s 😄, I also have a ton of houseplants my other passion is spending time with my critters, doggies and guinea pigs, and my bird, oh and I also take care of 4 feral cats that like to hang out at my house. My husband said our house is like a zoo 😝. I can’t wait for Spring to see if I can get more Hoya’s. Unfortunately I can’t get them here in central Cali, so my sister sends me plants from Florida. Yes I could order cuttings, and spend a lot, for very little, or just get her to mail me big full sized plants 🤗. Whenever we go to a bigger city I try to stop at any nursery, I know you can get awesome plants in the LA area, we don’t go that far too often 🤨. We don’t have any decent nurseries within 100 miles, we only have Lowe’s or Home Depot. They definitely never carry Hoya’s, which is weird cause other stores in different states carry them, not sure why we don’t get them. At Lowe’s, I did ask the garden center manager, she said she doesn’t get to order, it just automatically gets ordered at their HQ. I still need to check with the Home Depot manager to see if they can order specific plants. Anyways, I’m rambling on, I hope your year improves, how much longer are you going to be in France? Glad you back, can you remind me, did you put any soil in with your Staghorn mounts? I mounted a baby one, but it doesn’t seem to stay moist enough, I just used sphagnum moss wrapped around the root ball, should I have added some potting soil? Two of the leaves are drooping, like it’s thirsty. I need help! I need to save my baby staghorn 🥺. Okay, please let me know ASAP. Happy Planting 💜🌺🌸
Hey! Thanks so much for watching. I have 24 Hoya types right now: Hoya davidcummingii H. bella H. ‘Mathilde’ H. brevialata H. australis H. australis ‘Lisa’ H. lacunosa H. carnosa H. carnosa compacta H. carnosa ‘Rubra’ H. carnosa ‘Krimson Queen’ H. burtoniae H. thomsonii H. pubicalyz ‘Black Dragon’ H. kerrii H. memoria H. lobbii H. ‘Chouke’ H. serpens H. obovata H. merrillii aff. red leaves H. obscura H. aff. lyi botanova H. linearis This March I'll go to a garden show in Stockholm and try to buy some cuttings from the Swedish Hoya Association as they have an incredibly high number of varieties that I haven't found here in France. I have lived in France for 7.5 years and I plan to stay here indefinitely. 🙂 As for the staghorn ferns, there is no much soil beneath the sphagnum moss to be honest, and they are drying out a lot faster than usual lately so I think I need to re-mount them with more sphagnum moss to retain more water! I hope I covered everything. 😀
First video I watched of yours and initially I was like "great a crazy plant lady", but then you were talking about hoya history and dropped botany names and I realized you're the interesting kind of crazy. Lol. But seriously enjoyed your plant with me video! I hope 2019 lightens up for you and your family. At least blessings, you're able to vacation and escape and have the luxury to complain... you know? Cause theres people who cant complain... it's just so much that they have to grind it out smiling the whole way through. Best of luck!!!!
Thanks for watching. 🙂 I am deeply grateful for everything that I have. Sometimes life dishes out frustrations and sometimes when it rains it pours, but those things pass with a little time.
@@betsybegonia thanks for not taking it offensive. Stream of thought reply. 😓 #derp. Definitly didnt mean for it to be so condescending... youre amazing!
Betsy, I like Hoya (how you) Incorporated the history background while doing your repotting video. I've learned something, well a lot from you and I have to agree with you on the root bound or part. People recommend "not to use terracottas or to repot it for a long time and let it root bound" well you gotta do what works for you.
Uhmmmm... I planted a hoya in a too big pot...After that, I found out that it's wrong, this plant likes to be in a small pot. What can I do now? Please, help me!
Yeah probably. 😂 It's a very very light mix for sure. If you don't want to be on top of watering them all the time, you can reduce it a bit, but you don't want the mix to be too rich.
Hey Betsy, you missed one of the most important names in hoya World. Surisa Somadee. Her hybrids are awsome. And as one of the top vendor she got so great Hoyas. At the Moment i am waiting for a delivery from AH Hoyas. A hugh haul of New Hoyas for My collection. Totally excited
You are the best company for when I'm sowing or potting plants (even though mine are mostly vegetables and flowers atm)! The most delightful background noise and wine drinking buddy! That's my chillax!❤🍷 Green greetings from Finland! Oh, and if you haven't been to Madeira (or the Azores) try that next time you go on holiday in stead of the Canary Islands! 👍💚
Hello Betsy: Your video is so entertaining and full of help for the hoya lover. I have watched this video several times. Please make more videos about hoyas and watch out for the perlite. Loreta
I'm glad your back. I thought maybe you were near the fire downtown Paris a while back. An apt. fire. I saw it on the news here. Anyway, nice video I'm glad your safe! Happy growing!
Oh there isn’t much more stressful than that displaced aggression transfer stuff with cats!! My roommate had this problem and the cat attacked me a couple of times and would make the most blood curdling noises, poor thing. People won’t understand unless they’ve seen it. Super glad it resolved for you! We used pheromone plug ins to help. Welcome back! :)
Goodness we separated them, used Feliway, and started giving them supplements with L-theanine and milk protein which is meant to soothe and calm. They've gone back to normal, the only thing left was that the one who'd gone crazy still has food anxiety. So I created a little black box that she can hop into and eat in there. She loves it and feels very safe and the other cat doesn't bother trying to get in (he's too fat 😂). It's great because we normally use autofeeders but for the past 2 months we had to feed them three times a day in separate rooms. 😅 So glad we're back on the autofeeders and she enjoys her dark dining restaurant. 😂
Betsy Begonia boxes helped us too!! We couldn’t get her to take any of the calming treats but eventually the feliway helped us reintroduce them and the boxes gave her somewhere to hide when she was feeling a bit stressed. We were all feeling a bit stressed for a while. I could have used a human sized box frankly. So glad your two worked it out!!
Hi Betsy! Good video! I would truly appreciate it if you would tell me, again, the hybridizer of both H. 'Chouke' & H. 'Mathilde.' (Please settle an argument/debate for me! Would you please write to me the correct pronunciation of Mathilde? Honestly! I've heard about 5 renditions! This debate ENDS with your answer! Lol!) I'll have to search for the former plant and I have the latter, although it's very small! I'm always very excited to see or hear of different varieties of hoya than the ones that I have. Your lobbii & serpens are already on my plant wish list. I have what was sold to me as a merrillii; but, I'm not confident that my plant is that one. A tip for the hoya videos in the future: Would you please let us look at each cutting or plant that you're repotting for a while longer, either before or after the repotting, if not both? I've rewatched several times; but, can't actually make an identification. Also, please give us the author's name of "The Hoyan" again. Thanks in advance. You're a peach! Or a grape!?! Fruity??? You're great! Thanks so much for sharing the hoya history, your mix, opinion on pots for hoyas & tips! I would have loved a glass of the wine, too; but, all-in-all, I love this more laid back style of video! Take care and plant love! 🌾💜
Hi Margie, here's a link to a UA-cam video with a pronunciation guide for the name "Mathilde": ua-cam.com/video/OpJLDrX4nEk/v-deo.html Forgive me for pronouncing it with more of a French accent, this is my habit since this is a French name and I know that the creator is Belgian, so he would likely pronounce it this way as well: ua-cam.com/video/gsNfV48rBvk/v-deo.html But it isn't necessary. It's like Matilda, but without the "a" sound on the end. Mah-tild or mah-teeld would be fine. The female botanist that I referred to is named Christine M. Burton. You will notice that I display the text of her name and the publication across the screen in this video. Her publication is called P.S. The Hoyan: www.psthehoyan.com/ I don't know how to get ahold of any publications earlier than those listed on that site, much to my dismay. I will try to show longer shots of plants in the future, thanks for the tip.
Sorry I also forgot to mention that the botanist who created H. 'Chouke' and H. 'Mathilde' is Emilio Begine. They are both a cross between H. carnosa and H. serpens.
Oh, I loved your pronunciation! Truly! I just had no idea how to spell the pronunciation, is all. I'll be excited to relay this info to the "debaters"! I didn't expect you to go to so much trouble in order to answer my questions; but, thank you very much! I love details like those! I guess I'm anal that way. Oh well! Whatever! 🤷♀️Lol! 🌾💜
Lol 😂 I'm loving the CHAT! The hoyas have lots of roots! 👍 Did you place them on a South facing window? I have couple of water propagation need to be potted up. What Canary Islands 🏝 did you go to? I really like Tenerife and las palmas. Really good place to hike and very green.. 😘🌹
I've kept them in a DIY propagation box I made in November and kept them under a grow light for a couple months. They're now out with the rest of my plants and I have east-facing windows. We went to Gran Canaria. I did visit the botanical garden one morning and it was very nice. Funny, the botanist who created Hoya 'Chouke' and Hoya 'Mathilde' now lives in Tenerife. I see he moved away from Belgium. Lucky dog! 😃
Best video ever, I'm such a fool for (useless) historic facts and whatnot!!!!!!!!! One of my very first plants almost two years ago, was a 15 year old hoya carnosa, my mom gave me, and it was 1,5 (H)x3 (W) meters, which was in a pot just a little bigger than the one you...transported your hoyas in, so yes, I have proof they really don't mind being super root bounded!! Unfortunately my mom insisted it'd do great in a super bright spot in my veranda, so it DIED that summer. x_x I did manage to save a tiny tiny piece and it's now slooooowly growing with one of my lilacs, so yay!!! Only 13 more years to get my Sivert (Hoyem) back!! :p Can hardly wait for spring to visit Sweden, to place my order ooooh my... thanks again for the suggestion and the video!! Cheeers!!!! ^_^
Aww, I'm so sorry you lost that one! But it's okay, we live and learn. There will be more Hoyas in your future, and now you know how to take care of them. 🙂
@@betsybegonia the good thing is that my mom got this hoya from my aunt, and her plant is a 20+ years old enormous hoya 4-5 meters tall, so I could ask her to give me a huge cutting. In fact, we'll visit her on Ash Monday and this time, I'm taking with me a few small pots to "steal" some bits of her awesome plants!! ^_^

Thank you for Hoya, love Hoyas. Live i Greenland found out they also like terracotta in my house then plastic pots. I think it depends on the air around the world :)

OMG loved your intro! Can totally relate...2019 has been rough...I'm literally escaping reality by watching your video & enjoying some wine right along with you. Enjoyed the plant chat & the Hoya history was really interesting. Needed some Betsy humor today...:) p.s. I use an unsharpened pencil or a chop stick to loosen the dirt from the bottom (hole) of the plant pot . May take a few pokes but the plant usually pops out fairly easily. Hope things start moving in more positive direction for you soon. Take care!
It seems to me like a lot of people have had a crummy couple of months. I hope everything starts going better for everyone! And thanks for the tip, that's great. 😁
For the record, I ordered 4 Hoya's this week. Last week, I had none. I need to go back to work so I don't have time to look for plants to buy every day.
I just transplanted my string of hearts. I had to use a butter knife in a plastic pot and the roots stuck to it too. It was torture going around the pot trying to loosen the soil torture the ripping sound 😬
Hello! Betsy , love this video I only have one Hoya at the moment but planning to collect more . Thank you so much for sharing this . I did a video shot out last time and I have included your name . I thought you may like to know that.
I took French for four years and I learned (somehow) how to distinguish French people and at some point in the video I was like “that’s weird is she French?” And then you started speaking French and I was shook and I’m even more shook because I just realized the words on the bags were in French and now I feel dumb 😂😂 BUT I just came across your channel today ET J’AIME ÇA 💓💓
😂 I am not French, I've just lived in France for nearly 8 years. I'm originally from Ohio. I guess that means I've spent more of my adult life in France than in the USA. Gosh I've been here a while and my French is still not fluent. 🙈
Gosh Betsy!!! I missed you... been hoping you were ok. I'm sorry about all the things going on in your personal life & also some crazy hoya ppl attacking you over what you can or can not do. I do remembered when Doug Chamberlains had a hard time rooting his H. Bella.. you simply suggest to maybe to try rooting in water & a rude person started arguing about it. But he try it & guess what .. it worked!! So there's so many ways to care for your plants. Just because it works for one person, might not work for another. We all live different climate & home environment. Just do what works for you. Keep your chin up & hope you continue doing more videos. We all enjoy watching & adore your great personality! 💖💖💖
Oh nobody really attacked me, I'm an exaggerator to the max! 😂 I found it really funny and wasn't insulted at all. I love a good debate and it gives me the opportunity to learn new things (and share them)! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. 🙂

I absolutely LOVE hoyas! I have started my collection with a Hindu rope Hoya and your video has motivated me to talk about mine! ❤️
Hoya addicts unite!!! 💚
Oh that sounds wonderful! Even though I love their foliage, I really get excited when they bloom. I wish they lasted longer!
I use peat moss, perlite, and small pieces of cocoa husk as potting mix. Is that ok?
I would say so. As long as it's real loose.
I love Stef Hall! Thanks so much for watching, I'm glad to have you here. 🙂
I can't wait, I love your videos!
Hi Betsy! Good to see you! Glad to hear things are looking up in your life. To decompress I work out, take a walk, pray, get off by myself for awhile, talk to a friend who I know will listen and encourage.
I sometimes take walks if work becomes a little frustrating! But I think this year I should try to make more trips to the countryside. 😊
so glad you're back! I just had vermiculite in my wine last week. I may or may not have drunk it anyway
😂 I sieved it into another glass.
I'd drink it and just spit out the vermaculite cuz I'm classy like that lmao
Hi Betsy, So happy you're back and you were missed! Happy to hear you were able to get away, decompress and relax! Love these kind of videos chatting, a little history, humor, drinking, and planting! Take care and see ya in the next one!💚😄🌱🌿🍷
Thanks so much for watching, Brandi! 💚 You take care as well!
So very funny and enjoyed your repotting video very much. And of course it being almost 20 minutes loved that. Glad your back and glad your cats are doing better. Love your Hoyas. Thanks for sharing 😀
Thank you for watching! Glad you were happy with the ridiculous length. 😂 I will try to do a bit of both from now on.
I want to collect many more
I loved this video so much 💗💗💗 you're so smart!!
Thank you for watching, Alexia! 🙂
“I guess They were all out of small trees” 😂😂😂😂
Next time I'll break it up beforehand instead of breaking a nail on camera! 😂
Glad to see you back, I try to remember things can always be worse and think of someone dealing with a illness, that would be the worst.
Well I have seen worse days. We're stronger together and I am deeply grateful for having such a wonderful community to turn to.
Lmfao I adore you....I actually laughed out loud a few times....plants, wine and humor❤️🤣
Thanks Betsy 🥰. This is a very informative video; I just reported my Hoya plants & noticed that I have 4 instead of 3; one of them is a Hoya kerrii. I also transferred from clay to plastic. Can't wait to see your other videos.
Thanks for watching, Yesenia. 🙂 I hope your Hoyas do great!
😮😀😀😀😀😀
I like the plant chat, Bets!
Thanks! I just uploaded a new one. 🙂
Love this, you are hilarious! And i learn something everytime i watch your videos.
That's such a nice thing to hear, thank you. 🙂
Too funny I was about to repot my Hoya and literally thought I wonder if I should put it in a terra cotta pot. And all of a sudden your video! Lol!
I think it's fine! I just use water to detach the roots. But I wouldn't do it with bella or lacunosa, they like more moist conditions.
Just found this channel and I freaking love you!!!
Welcome back Betsy! Glad you took a break and had a relaxing vacation! I'm glad you are back though! 😍
Thank you, Delia. 🤗🤗🤗
It's a big year! Here we go! 😀
I think this video was very cathartic for you....also fun to watch! Plant on!!! Gotta go now and take my one hoya out of the terra cotta pot!!
Haha yeah, it was a lot of fun. Thanks!
Hi...so I just started my hoya journey. I have 2 queens, 1 pubacalyx and 1 basic carnosa. Well.. one queen has a lime green color and the other has deep green leaves which are more rounded shape... is that normal??
Good to have ya back!!
I am so happy to be making videos again, thank you.
No Problem! Also I got my first staghorn fern last week! Im super excited! Im planning on mounting it this weekend. (there has to be a better way of saying that...) @@betsybegonia

Shhh. 😂
@@betsybegonia I just read some of The Hoyan. Wow! You're right. She was feisty!
Just found your channel and I love it!!! Thanks for the videos
Thank you so much for the nice feedback. I'm glad you're enjoying my channel. 🙂
Thank you Betsy! When I have them, that is how I water African Violets. Have a great day!
Omg....Love you...make my day..missed you...im looking yo start my Hoya collection....perfect timing
My Hoya chelsea and Obovata are in terracotta. Helps me keep from overwatering them. My serpens won't go in terracotta, I killed my last one by forgetting to water it for a few weeks.
Oo yeah, H. serpens was the one I worried about most. So glad it's in plastic now. 😅
LOL, you are silly, but very informative & knowledgeable. I'm happy I found you.
What plant food do you use? Do you have nurseries/greenhouses where you live? If so, could we go on a shopping/looking tour?
Hi there! I just buy Agroflash houseplant fertilizer from my local garden center. In my video history I do indeed have a garden center tour of the place I like in Paris, you can check it out! 🙂
@@betsybegonia, but a newer, "Come Along" video WOULD be very cool...AND fun!!!

Glad you’re back! 🌱❤️
But, Hey Dear Girl, do not worry so much!🙃
Thank you. 😊💚

This March I'll go to a garden show in Stockholm and try to buy some cuttings from the Swedish Hoya Association as they have an incredibly high number of varieties that I haven't found here in France.
I have lived in France for 7.5 years and I plan to stay here indefinitely. 🙂
As for the staghorn ferns, there is no much soil beneath the sphagnum moss to be honest, and they are drying out a lot faster than usual lately so I think I need to re-mount them with more sphagnum moss to retain more water!
Thanks a lot for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this, that's great news. 🙂
Uhmmmm... I planted a hoya in a too big pot...After that, I found out that it's wrong, this plant likes to be in a small pot. What can I do now? Please, help me!
You can put it in a smaller pot.

@@bravangard Well if it's too soon it might be shocked. It depends on the plant.
@@betsybegonia A big hug! Thank you for your time!
When I try to add this much perlite, the soil gets almost crunchy, is that normal?
Yeah probably. 😂 It's a very very light mix for sure. If you don't want to be on top of watering them all the time, you can reduce it a bit, but you don't want the mix to be too rich.
Hey Betsy, you missed one of the most important names in hoya World. Surisa Somadee. Her hybrids are awsome. And as one of the top vendor she got so great Hoyas. At the Moment i am waiting for a delivery from AH Hoyas. A hugh haul of New Hoyas for My collection. Totally excited

Hi Margie, here's a link to a UA-cam video with a pronunciation guide for the name "Mathilde": ua-cam.com/video/OpJLDrX4nEk/v-deo.html
Forgive me for pronouncing it with more of a French accent, this is my habit since this is a French name and I know that the creator is Belgian, so he would likely pronounce it this way as well: ua-cam.com/video/gsNfV48rBvk/v-deo.html
But it isn't necessary. It's like Matilda, but without the "a" sound on the end. Mah-tild or mah-teeld would be fine.
The female botanist that I referred to is named Christine M. Burton. You will notice that I display the text of her name and the publication across the screen in this video. Her publication is called P.S. The Hoyan: www.psthehoyan.com/
I don't know how to get ahold of any publications earlier than those listed on that site, much to my dismay.
Did you place them on a South facing window?
I have couple of water propagation need to be potted up.
What Canary Islands 🏝 did you go to?
I really like Tenerife and las palmas. Really good place to hike and very green..

Lucky dog! 😃
it's ironic that I, a Belgian, can not find hoya Mathilde anywhere in Belgium
Best video ever, I'm such a fool for (useless) historic facts and whatnot!!!!!!!!!
One of my very first plants almost two years ago, was a 15 year old hoya carnosa, my mom gave me, and it was 1,5 (H)x3 (W) meters, which was in a pot just a little bigger than the one you...transported your hoyas in, so yes, I have proof they really don't mind being super root bounded!!
