You, my dear, are just precious! You’re excitement over plants is contagious. I’ve been trying to not be a plant murderer and gave it another go recently. I got a peperomia obtusifolia variegata a few days ago and my excitement level was as high as yours getting hoyas! Baby steps for me... I love that I ran into your videos in my attempt to be “houseplant educated” 😊
Hi. I love Hoyas and started to look them up on UA-cam you came up. Thanks! What is the mixture you use for your Hoyas? I’d like to try for some of mine. It almost looked like I saw a Leca ball or two in it.
I love love love watching how excited you get!! That sounded hmmm strangely creepy. But you are loving plants and I love succulents and don't know anything about Hoyas. But I want to- thanks to your beautiful, comedic giddiness! Please keep your spontaneous humor up! 😁😃
I found you through Jenna and I am so, so happy for it. I'm only starting this little plant journey and I only have two right now but I am super excited. Your videos are such a lovely mix of informative and fun! Thank you for your amazing content! PS I'm jealous of your hoyas - I wish they weren't toxic to cats! My little nibbler would 100% go after them and make herself sick. Maybe that's a video idea - indoor plants that won't kill kitties or pups that seem intent on poisoning themselves?
I understand that fear. My cat used to chew my parlor palm but I put it out of his reach. He's never chewed any other plants but every time I bring a plant home I just keep a close eye on his behavior around it. He sniffs but never eats anymore. Maybe it's because he's 4 years old now. He's got better things to do. Anyway, I have a blog article about it: betsybegonia.com/2018/08/31/how-to-keep-cats-out-of-houseplants/
@@betsybegonia Thank you - your blog post is super helpful. Sadly my cat has gone after my parlor palm as well so I'm going to try some of your methods out!

I just got my first Hoya. She is basically just a single heart sitting in a tiny pot. I hope she loves me back. Great video! Love your new collection. 🌿🌿🌿
Hi Betsy! I was so excited to see that you posted a video, it made my day! You have so many followers/subscribers because you are so down to earth, loveable, entertaining, knowledgeable, pretty and funny. You deserve it girl! I can't wait to see how your new babies do. They're all so pretty. I think I like the Hoya walliniana the best because of the red on the leaves and the Dischidia sp. cf. hirsuta NS08-122 because you said it gets flowers all along the stems. Are they supposed to smell like a Hoya flower? Thanks so much for being you and always sharing! You are truly an amazing person! Keep up the good work!
That's a great question about flower scent, I'm honestly unsure. I have not really gotten deep into Dischidia reading yet, but if you like Hoyas then you will find them really interesting as well. Thank you also for your very kind words, it honestly means so much to me and I find it really motivating. You're good people Sandy. 💚
You acquired some very nice hoyas, The plant gods were smiling on you this weekend. Congratulations to you, I only have one hoya currently but would love to find the chelsii and the krinkle 8. Of course a few verigated ones would be nice too lol and so it goes for all of us plant addicts.
I 💜💜💜💜 this so much! Your energy & excitement for hoyas is everything. I really enjoy the little synopsis of the plant’s history that you give. Not to be a total downer, but I had to say goodbye to my cat two days ago & have been binge watching your videos to distract & cheer me up. This one came at a perfect time - thank you @BetsyBegonia 💕
I'm really sorry to hear that you lost your friend, I understand that is really difficult to get through. I'm glad that my videos can provide you with something that you need right now. 💚 Thank you for watching and take care of yourself.
Hey Betsy, congratulations on the growing family! I still feel silly about creating a UA-cam channel where I talk about my plants. But I see all the plant related channels I follow are growing, and I go 😞, "What are you waiting for"? But I'm still hanging back. I enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing
You just gotta do the thing. You won't learn and grow and improve in a skill unless you just do it, and keep doing it, even when you feel like it's really bad at first. You just have to push through that and keep doing the thing.
So, I’m watching this the second time...just wanted to have a glass of vino with you 😂🥂( husband away and I’m home alone with my beautiful plants, wine and UA-cam...) cheers!
Omg I love you hahahahah laughed so much. I have about 7 hoyas and the possums got to them so I'm watching videos waiting for them to grow back. Awesome video!
This channel was suggested in my feeds by UA-cam today... Subscribed right away. Amazing content and Betsy is too funny!! 😂 (And finally I'm subscribed to a plant channel based in Europe) Greetings from the NL!!
Wow! I grew up in Colorado, and my grandmother use to have a Hoya plant that would flower a few times a year, and always wondered what this plant was called. My mother use to call it"Jesus Tears"..with a gorgeous light pink and mauve bunch of flowers, where a tiny bit of clear liquid would be secreted from it, which is the 'tear' they are refering to..
I just got a Hoya Naumanii. I've never heard of it and it was the only on at my local plant store. (I picked up 2 plants that they were the only one at the store). Know anything about Naumanii?
It may have just been my ignorance at the time but I really never noticed the same volume of either in the states. I’m a terrible plant window peeker! Lol
@@MelissaWalker82 I think that in the States, since the sidewalk is so far from the windows of the house, it's harder to notice. Here in Paris, you can literally crawl in peoples' windows. I know because someone did it to me twice. 😂
I live vicariously through you and r/succulents until I can expand my collection this summer. Oh and Jenna Marbles. Her video finally inspired me to get into plants, and I found your channel through her!
I'm from Belgium too !!! But I live in Montréal, WHERE IT'S STILL PRETTY MUCH WINTER *ewww* I would love it if you would share some of the reading you do about plants, you seem to be so well informed! What books/website are your favorite? I'm glad I have found your channel, you're so fun to watch!
I love reading: 1. P.S. The Hoyan by Christine M. Burton (no longer updated but has a lot of info): www.psthehoyan.com/ 2. Simply starting with a Google search about a specific plant and deep-diving to wherever the Internet takes me. This can mean lots of websites in Polish, Russian, Thai, Mandarin... I just use the auto Google Translate option in Google Chrome. 3. I have a book called The Genus Hoya by Anders Wennström and Katarina Stenman that I really enjoy poking around in. At first I thought it would be a coffee table book but to be honest it floats around my apartment wherever I go. 😂 4. Botany in a Day is highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn the basics of Botany and how to recognize plants by family, etc.: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botany_in_a_Day 5. Doug Chamberlain's website about his Hoya collection and experiences: vermonthoyas.com/ 6. Pakeha's Hoya (no longer updated but has a lot of info): www.pakehas-hoya.com/ 7. Kristina Karlsson's website: www.myhoyas.com/index.htm
Your passion for plants, especially hoyas, is honestly so inspiring! I've had a small spider plant for a while but I just bought a zz plant and a crispy wave fern! Taking things slow and learning as I go but I'm hoping to expand into hoyas and calatheas eventually!! Thank you for putting out such lovely content
But look where you are now!! Thought of a question for you earlier by the way; do you need to change what kind of care you give a plant based on if it’s variegated or not? Would variegated plants require more light/water/nutrients/etc than non-variegated? And would that also depend on the genus?
@@annidj Variegated plants generally need very bright, indirect light compared to their non-variegated friends. Direct sun can burn the leaves, but low levels of light will not be enough and the plant will revert back to fully green.
I don’t have any hoyas but I love watching your videos loved your dancing at the end what a lovely and happy person you made my day 🌞😆😁have a blessed weekend 🙏🏼
Hello! I am not sure if you already did this but can't you show what has happened to these beautiful plants you got from Sweden? I am from Sweden and I am greatful that I live near so many great Hoya collectors. Please, update us!
@@betsybegonia we have nice people here! If you get the chance, go visit Camilla here in Sweden. Wow! Her hoyas are AMAZING!!! Good luck with yours. If you want to see part of my collection please visit hoyalian on Instagram!
Absolutely! I simply don't have any shelf space for these bad boys right now and I'm using the box since it worked so well this past winter. Pretty soon I'll be installing some new shelves so they can live happily with my other plants.
Hey Betsy, I have a question. The underside of a few of my hoya leaves are starting to look wrinkled. I don't know the cause but I think it's because lack of water (I dont water them often. once a month or once every 2 weeks). If I start watering it properly, will the leaves un-shrivel and get better?
Gosh it really depends on the Hoya and your watering regimen. If it's underwatered, the leaves can wrinle due to drought stress/dehydration. But I have also seen this occur in Hoyas that are OVERwatered. Basically, overwatering causes root rot and then when the roots rot away the stems shut down and then water is not transferred to the leaves, the whole cycle is shut down, etc. and they begin to wrinkle because they are dehydrated due to root rot. So... it depends.
@@betsybegonia so i watered it and the leaves were still limp and shrively. Since you mentioned root rot, I pulled it out of the soil to inspect but the roots looked healthy! I ended up repotting the cutting with the wrinkly leaves (i had a bunch of hoya cuttings in a pot), watered it thoroughly, and the next day I saw an improvement! 3 days later, the leaves are thick again, hard, and really starting to smooth out. No more shriveled leaves :D

I've decided that hoyas are my spirit plant, thanks to you. I have a tiny space and I want to fill it with hella hoyas! I'm even propagating (and using big fancy plant lady words) my one and only hoya - carnosa krimson queeeeeen after watching a previous video of yours. YAY!
That's the most wonderful thing I've heard all day. 😍
💚😹🌿 this was awesome, you're so funny - and cool - love your channel girl! binge watching while repotting my plants.
Aw, thank you so much! That's really nice. I'm glad you enjoyed this.
I enjoy watching and learning from your videos very much. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge, and thanks for answering my question! :)
You are hilarious!😂 Love all the Hoyas you got! I particularly liked the one that has red on it’s leaves! Thanks for the tips on pruning! Cheers!
So glad you enjoyed it! Yes the Hoya walliniana is really adorable and I love reddish leaves.
Awesome hoyas-Love them all!😍You’re very entertaining & l love your craziness over hoyas!
Thanks so much, Janie! 😀
Great buys, glad you were able to go.
It was a wonderful experience and the sun was shining all weekend. I'll definitely return!
Your excitement is amazing :) this is how I feel about philodendron and I act this way every time I cross another rare variety off my list!
Oh man I just ordered some new Begonias. YOU JUST WAIT TIL THEY ARRIVE!
Wow! What gorgeous new Hoyas! I can't wait to see the growing progress on them in the future. Such beauties! Super jealous that you got to go to that show! I just can't imagine. I love watching your channel and listening to you, girl! You rock! 💗🌿😍
Thanks so much Kristie! I feel lucky to have been able to go, flights were cheap. 😅
Would love to see an update on these Hoyas
Most are dead, I lost many plants 2 years ago. But I have more than 100 Hoyas in my collection at this time. So, bad news good news.
@@betsybegonia Oh that's to bad. I have approx. 60+ and love them all. Love seeing yours.
I just got my first Hoya. She is basically just a single heart sitting in a tiny pot. I hope she loves me back. Great video! Love your new collection. 🌿🌿🌿
Thank you so much. 😊
I just stumbled upon your video. You are adorable!! So funny! I love your hoya passion! LOL!!!!!!
OMGolly ~ I commented before I finished watching the very end! I LOVE your Hoya dance! Hilarious! So you! 👍 👌 😂 🍷
You found some fabulous Hoyas! That walliniana though.. Ack I need that cutie 😍! Love him 💚
So adorable! It's a tad like H. lacunosa but with wider leaves and that lovely reddish hue!
I have watched your channel a while. Love your information and dramatic attitude. Fun channel.
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoy my channel. Thanks for the positive feedback!
@@betsybegonia I have visited some of my favorite plant tubers to let them know about your rare hoyas. They were AMAZING.
Oh wow, thank you. That's amazing. You're so kind.
Betsy Begonia thank you for your kind words & thank you for taking the time to respond. Plant people really are the best!
These Hoyas are amazing!!!
I knooowww! Ahhhh!
So, I’m watching this the second time...just wanted to have a glass of vino with you 😂🥂( husband away and I’m home alone with my beautiful plants, wine and UA-cam...) cheers!
Aw thank you for joining me, enjoy your vino!
Hello Betsy Begonia ! Greatings from me and Sweden ! Fantastic Hoyas you show in your haul ! :-)
Thank you! I'll be seeing more of Sweden when I can. 😍 It was lovely.
There’s nothing wrong with you!! You are amaze balls 😍😍
😂 Thanks!
Congrats on all of your new babies. I'm with you, regardless of flowers, bushy is better than leggy. You are a delightful human being.
Thank you so much Dori, that's really kind. 🙂
Wow, that's definitely a name I've never heard for Hoya before!
I just got a Hoya Naumanii. I've never heard of it and it was the only on at my local plant store. (I picked up 2 plants that they were the only one at the store). Know anything about Naumanii?
There really are so many Hoyas here! Nearly every Swede seems to have a Hoya and a Phalaenopsis in their windows. Glad you had fun!! :)
Orchids are super common here but definitely not Hoya. We need more!
Betsy Begonia omg that’s going too far! 😂
I live vicariously through you and r/succulents until I can expand my collection this summer.
Oh and Jenna Marbles. Her video finally inspired me to get into plants, and I found your channel through her!
That's wonderful, I'm excited for you to get some plants. It's a fun hobby.
Inspired by one of your videos I ordered some Hoyas fro Michael of Ebay! What a guy! He is so nice! Thanks for the tip.
I'm from Belgium too !!! But I live in Montréal, WHERE IT'S STILL PRETTY MUCH WINTER *ewww*
I would love it if you would share some of the reading you do about plants, you seem to be so well informed! What books/website are your favorite?
I'm glad I have found your channel, you're so fun to watch!
I love reading:
1. P.S. The Hoyan by Christine M. Burton (no longer updated but has a lot of info): www.psthehoyan.com/
4. Botany in a Day is highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn the basics of Botany and how to recognize plants by family, etc.: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botany_in_a_Day
5. Doug Chamberlain's website about his Hoya collection and experiences: vermonthoyas.com/

@@betsybegonia Oh wow I've got plenty to keep me busy for a while in here! Thank you so much
Oh my gosh! I purchased my two very first hoya cuttings ever....I have no clue what they are and I am obsessed with them already 😂
i've recently gotten super into plants too :) love your channel!
That's so great! I hope you're enjoying the hobby. It won't be long til you're onto the hard stuff too. 😂
It's good to start out slow! I killed a Peperomia, a Boston fern, an ivy plant... things did not go well in my first few months. 😂
I'm glad you got some joy out of that, thank you Julia. 🙂
Hello! I am not sure if you already did this but can't you show what has happened to these beautiful plants you got from Sweden? I am from Sweden and I am greatful that I live near so many great Hoya collectors. Please, update us!
Sadly many of them were lost due to a dreary winter.
@@betsybegonia aww...I am sorry! Did anyone make it and grew bigger?
No a couple of very kind Swedish women sent me some more like Gungung Gading. 🙂
@@betsybegonia we have nice people here! If you get the chance, go visit Camilla here in Sweden. Wow! Her hoyas are AMAZING!!! Good luck with yours.
If you want to see part of my collection please visit hoyalian on Instagram!
@@AnneliLarssonAlaFoto Yes, she sent me some. 🙂 Thank you! 💚
can these live outside of the growing box?
Absolutely! I simply don't have any shelf space for these bad boys right now and I'm using the box since it worked so well this past winter. Pretty soon I'll be installing some new shelves so they can live happily with my other plants.
Loved this video start to finish, everything about it, amazing energy 😂
Thanks so much! That's so nice.
I’m more of a Calathea girl, but I do own one Hoya. It looks like you got a great haul.
I wish I had room for more Calathea! They just get so darn big and I have plans for more cane Begonias!
I just love your videos and your sense of humor! I'm from Holland btw :) Hi!
Hi! Thank you so much for watching my channel. 💚
Funny video and I enjoyed it. Love the Hoyas
Thank you Kathy! 😁
You are one crazy plant lady.. love your videos.
@@jyae7777 That's great news!
