I found some cute nightstands on the curb... cleaned up.. the new knobs from dollar tree...a friend saw them and offered me a $100 for them... they cost me a total of $10 to clean and update.. these knobs are great
I used to HATE going to the store and having my mom tell me she could “make it for cheaper” it was just cuz she never had time really. Now that I’m older I’m so thankful I have a thrifty mom. She has taught me to value the right things in my opinion❤
Me too! I remember in the 90s going to thrift stores and Hating it, as a child I was thinking 🤔 💭 I wish we could just afford brand new clothes, but as an adult I’m so grateful that my mom showed me how to stretch a dollar, look at the potential in used items, and the value of being able to be frugal! I’m lucky that she taught me all the tricks of the trade, I got into going to thrift stores on my own in high school (I loved all things vintage by then and was especially into fashion history) and it wasn’t “cool” to wear thrift store clothes yet and I remember people being condescending back then if you wore used clothes, but I didn’t care what anyone thought by high school and I was proud of the fact that I could find a rad shirt for less than a dollar or two at a thrift store, with the added excitement of wondering what I was “meant to” find on my thrifty thrift store shopping excursions. You sound a lot like myself, it’s funny (and annoying at the same time), there used to be a stigma about wearing used clothes and only poor people wore them, but now it’s fashionable so in turn everything is much much more expensive and it’s also much harder to find cool stuff; a lot of these changes are a direct result of the same a-holes that were teasing people for wearing “someone’s old clothes”. 🙄
😂😂 Oh my goodness my mom does that too. But she has taught me how to fix things up. It's a nice skill to have and most of that stuff really is overpriced.
Omg i feel the same about emo and alt styles, used to get made fun of till Kingdom Come and judged but now its the new cool kids uniform, it gets me so annoyed lol @@jamienicole2122
I swore when I was little that when I grew up I would buy anything I wanted because my Mom did the same! She would make handmade Barbie clothes for goodness sake! Then I grew up & I’m just like her & make my own stuff for me & my kids! Thanks Mom, I get it now.😊
I like to get dollar store wire trash cans and turn them upside down and use them as cloches in the garden to protect my plants from being eaten. These knobs would be perfect to put on top!
You can wire two of them together around watermelons and squashes when they are babies to protect them from rodents that like to get a bite before it's ripe, too. We have a bad rat problem in our area and my neighbor, a master gardener, said I'd never be able to grow a watermelon in my garden to harvest because he had not in all his attempts due to the rats getting in them and hollowing them out. I proved him wrong first try with my dollar tree wire cages!
@@justinkristinabrazeal8545 We too have a rat problem and pretty much everyone does but they don't either see them or attribute the damage to mice, squirrels, chipmunks. After our huge russian tomatoes were half eaten, I convinced my husband to put out rat traps and he put four amongst the tomatoes. The traps were snapping shut as he walked back to the house. 4 caught in 10 min. 9 in an hour and 21 in two weeks. If not for the garden, eliminating rats will prevent entry into attics etc.
@nicolechew1029 -- I love that idea!! I was thinking of something similar, however for kitchen use - making something along the lines however to cover things like baked goods.
What a great idea! Thanks for the tip. I love my family of rabbits but they love my hostas a little too much. Once the plants get to a certain size they leave them alone, but the smaller ones always get munched. I can protect them now!
I've found the best way to adhere deco paper to anything is to put a layer of Mod Podge on first and let it dry; then put the paper on and use a piece of parchment paper over the deco paper and use a craft iron to reactivate the Mod Podge. No wrinkles or bubbles anywhere and it stays put. It's the smoothest way I've found to do it. The furniture looks amazing!
Does this mean Mod Podge shouldn't be used on things exposed to excessive heat or sun? Like hot glue? Still, I will keep this method in mind for most other things!
@@ShoulderMonster Depends. Does it get constant heat? Is the environment humid or dry? If it only gets heat for a short period of time, it should lessen the chance. If you live somewhere like California in the desert, then most certainly. I’ve had stickers come off (and by that I mean MELT OFF) my car lol Humidity will always be a factor- the drier, the more likely it could actually cook under sunlight and become flaky after a long time, but the more humid, it could sweat off. It should be okay if it’s not exposed to extreme temp or light for long times. From my experience with things that aren’t this (cosplay and adhesive objects while living in California- summers are terrifying here lol)
I’m not usually a fan of modifying (especially painting) wood antique pieces, but I always appreciate how the changes you make are low level, and could be removed fairly easily should a future collector wish to refurbish it differently, You always do great work in trying to bring your own flair to a piece without irrevocably changing it, keep up the awesomeness!
If you have a Hobby Lobby, they sometimes have 50 cent clearance door knobs that are pretty cute. The normal priced ones are pretty cheap still too- I only remember the price of the 50 cent ones cause I used them for a craft (they make great giant game-controller thumbsticks 🎮 lol)
you can generally order items shipped from dollar tree. It’ll have to be in a quantity of 10 or so at minimum, but if you’re doing a big project or want to get into this sort of thing, it’s a good deal.
It’s amazing how some people just have that innate ability to do such things. I occasionally will have a creative thought such as this but just don’t have the initiative to follow through with it. Btw it looks fantastic!

You know, we had those knobs on our bedroom doors back in the 70s 🙂
The 70s seemed beautiful 😊
Still do
The crystal door knobs were much larger than the $1 tree furniture ones.
Ahh, when things were made with quality materials and priceless craftsmanship.
Now, those "Vintage" '70s doorknobs are worth over $50.00 each
I have them on all my furniture and cabinets on the first floor of my house for years. For them for like $0.25 a piece.
Nicely done! Unfortunately not all Dollar Trees have those knobs, and other decor items
