My hero... I'm restoring an old Snapper RER with a similar or same motor. Same governor/throttle plate. I forgot how I took things apart years ago and this was a life saver
Thank you I have a 1980 11hp Murray doesn't smoke or use a drop of oil . I bought it new in 1980. The float went bad and I found a brand new carb for $31 tax included . So basically cheaper to go new than put a kit . Taking the old carb off the bottom linkage fell off and what a time I was having trying to figure it out . Today has to be my lucky day you have the exact same mower.
you all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any help you can give me.
@Corey Donald thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
The assembly of the lawn mower could be done without any problems ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend I just puzzled something about the red strange “key”. However, it quickly turned out that this creates a kind of contact bridge between battery packs and lawn mowers. An additional backup as a father of a 1 year old nephew is great!! :-)
Machinery Restorer Hi Re the old style B&S engines I’ve got an old 8hp in a Murray 8/30 and it’s getting a blocked grass discharge chute to the two rear collectors in perfect dry conditions the guy at the mower shop suspected insufficient engine rpm , if I adjust the governor as discussed & I still can’t get enough revs does this mean it’s a tired engine, it doesn’t smoke and sounds healthy, any advice would be appreciated and thanks for a great video very easy to understand.
I had a question, let say i had a Briggs engine that has the little knob to connect a governor lever to it but i wanted to run a regular carb on it (plastic carb),could i leave that governor disconnected or does it need to be hooked up? i know is a strange question but i got a motor thats bare, i got it for hardly nothing and its nearly new but i dont have a carb with a governor, just a normal carb, the block is identical to the blocks without governors except for the little nub that comes out by the oil filler cap (governor shaft), what do you think?
Very good video. I have a 12 HP B & S as well but a 1996. Went to clean the carb, and the choke arm came off and is not back on correctly. Also the small needle inside the carb, trying to find out how that goes back in, it has a small little wire made I guess to be a spring, and that is not back in correctly. Just re-wired my mover an FINALLY got it to crank, but will not run. Certain it is the carb needle being inserted incorrectly. Do you have video on carb cleaning?
How do you reinstall the governor shaft keeper pin? How does the hole, where the pin goes, line up, and what does it line up with? Can it be lined back up without taking the engine off the mower, and then removing the crank pulley and bottom cover ?
Hei daggerwin, your a god send gift to the humanity, :) not only I love your fs videos now you saved my ass with this video.. I'm reconditioning an old mower with the same engine. My problem is I have no manual to see how the mechanism for acceleration and chock is put together. If you have a manual or you can make some pictures of that, it will be mach appreciated. Thank you in advance
Hi i have old 12.5 Briggs with side plate Gov that seems ok and smooth running and loose when idle throttle then tight at full throttle BUT i can only get 3/4 power and push throttle further and no change. So does this mean the govt arm has slipped a little in that clamp OR the govt spring needs adj- and how? thanks
Do you have the engine code for that engine? I got a old tractor, with the same engine, and there is no number to be found, on what engine it is. I need a ned gas/governor assembly..
What would happen to the revs of the engine if the screw you turned clockwise was turned the wrong way? I ask this because i have put a "new" engine in my lawn tractor and if you go anywhere near the throttle it revs the arse end off of it. Would this be a governor issue or a problem with the carb? Thanks Ben.
Have you had an answer yet? Without it there's a bit of slack on that rod that joins the throttle on carb to governor arm. It helps with more accurate throttle response when using your machine. Without it it might lag slightly or surge
I took the governor plate off to clean - totally filled with grime. Unfortunately I now cannot reassemble. Can you show behind the plate? I did not know where the spring connects. There's a floating arm that I'm not sure where it connects... wish I would have taken a pic I have this same set up
Yeah I had a 12 horse flattie on a Murray I had I swear it was stronger than the ohv 15 horse I have now on a Craftsman. And the flattie would rev alot higher without floating the valves. Guess that's from having a shorter lighter valvetrain than the ohv
The easiest way to fix a Briggs and Stratton engines is undo the 4 nuts and take engine off, then tie 30 metre's of rope to the engine and use the engine as a boat anchor, 3rd, buy a Honda engine and then you will have a motor that starts first go every time and is fitted with what i call a "Normal" carby with no linkages to fall off, problem solved "Forever"
You've got to be mechanically retarded to not keep these Briggs and Strattons running. My last tractor was received beaten up, coked up, caked eith oil residue and smoking 4 years ago ... new headgasket, carburetor, and rebuild kit for the lower deck and its been running great right. Plenty of videos on how to work on them and they are a dime a dozen with abundant parts available
Thanks for making this video - it saved me at least an hour of messing around trying to understand the choke on this older mower

Excellent direct video clearly photographed with no BS. Well done and on-point.

Very straight forward video and just what was needed. Thanks for the info and great job making this tutorial!
Rebuilt an old Parri (Troy prototype) 8 HP rear tined tiller and was wondering how to adjust the governor. Thanks again and much respect.
Awesome Video Thank you Very Much You could not have explained that In any simpler way Thanks Again...
Thank you for the video. This quick adjustment smoothed the 12 HP Briggs on on my old Murray right out.

Thanks, great vidio and instructions were straight to the point.
Thanks a million man. Clearest video to copy the linkages of.
Great Video, Very Professional And Helpful, Keep Up The Good Work! Thanks Charlie
MaximumMPH Thanks!

Will this cause the engine to be extremely cold natured. Mine will not stay running when its first started. After about 5 minutes it runs like new.

How do you set the highspeed rpm on these? I have an 11hp right now, its going way to fast at on high speed. Nothing is bent.

Is there a video what we can't see I'm having problems with the governor and it's bringing the setup?
This is random and a long shot. But do you have or can you get a picture of the linkage behind the plate? Where the spring and all the rods connect?
Any chance anyone knows where i can find a picture behind the plate the linkage fell off and can't figure it out for some reason
This literally helped me out on a 8 hour project

I just got one of those dinosaurs. Had to get the choke linkage trying to hook it up now.
Thanx for the knowledge!!!
Do you know the parts number on the carburetor
Hi dagger my Briggs & Stratton engine has to be replace with Honda engine

i have the same problem, did you ever figure it out?
Thank you!
What is the spring that wraps around the throttle linkage for? The one from the govoner arm to the carberator. Do I need to have that installed?

@@johanh2319 yeah I got a friend with experience to come look at my mower and I have it running in good shape now! Thanks!
does anybody have a diagram of what goes where, can appreciate the video is quite old now cheers

@@luckynightmare6912 Did you figure it out? I need help as well!
thank you.
Thank you.
Thanks, that's really helpful. By the way do you have any other ideas on how I can stop my old 12 hp engine from hunting?
Thanks Luke
Take away it's license.
Are you still having the same issues with your engine ?
And can you please tell me a bit more about what you are hearing, or seeing please.
Glad I saved a lot of L head parts 8,10,11 hp B&S Much better motors "I feel" vs the modern ohv models

Hmm i have a ford mower with the exact same engine except it is a 1979 model should be helpful
