Number of one-liners from Chief: 0 Number of battle scenes: 1 Number of named Covenant characters: 2 Number of Covenant species seen: 3 Number of bare butts on screen: 4
4 episodes in, and not only has Chief not killed a *single* Covenant alien since the first episode, but we also haven’t gotten a single bada$$ one-liner from Chief. The two things Chief is most known for(aside from keeping his helmet on, which they *also* fracked up)
@@CrèmeTropBrûlée here's the thing though, chief has always been one of the better spartans in general. IIRC only Kurt performed better on average. and that's because kurt's a natural leader IIRC. although chief's a jack of all trades, where other spartans usually have a specialization such as sniping
@@boa_king3324 but isn't it rarely when he is not in combat, but the show lets him put his helmet on when he need to remember his past or when he drives, is it a motor bike helmet lol
@@boa_king3324 I have read the books. The point is that you don’t *see* it. That’s *why* it was only in the books. The *only* time he ever took his helmet off in the games was in the first one, and you didn’t even see his face when he did. *That’s* the point. Clearly this little fact went clear over your head, and you call yourself a Halo fan?
Imagine if you will a Halo series... A Marine unit Pelican making the first landing on the newly discovered Halo ring. Action, mystery, suspense! It's all right there! In the FIRST game!!!
Hell, not even a Pelican. How about this… A black screen, ship sirens blaring, Jen Taylor’s voice over an intercom ‘abandon ship, all hands abandon ship.’ A flash of light. Green light. A body hits the ground. Another flash, a Marine Squad running, yelling, turning and firing on the enemy they can’t see. It continues similarly for a minute or so… then they all jump into the escape pod. When they hit the button, everything calms down. They look up… there it is. Halo. Suddenly, a Banshee flies over and blows them out of the air. No ceremony, no mercy. All their struggle to get off the ship? They were killed anyway. Title card.
SPARTANS, originally, were highly effective because of their versatility. They didn't need constant oversight, you just dropped a squad into a mission area with an objective, and they'd get it done however they needed to. Master Chief was the best because he was effectively unbreakable, no matter what the odds, no matter what the mission, he'd get it done. None of that has carried over into the show, and it's turned it into generic sludge It doesn't have any substance beyond the superficial look of real Halo. the characters are boring, bland, or morons. Things just happen regardless of whether or not it makes sense. And despite the fact that it's only a 9 episode season, there's already noticeable filler. Not only is this incredibly bad Halo, this is just incredibly bad science fiction. Everything about the show is just so painfully predictable and generic, there is no identity here. If this show wasn't called Halo, it would have come and gone without anyone noticing.
Yeah I kind of respect them trying to do their own thing with the show but they've just done such an incredibly poor job of it. I think the thing that hurts it the most is how many subplots there are. As of the latest episode you have Chief's emotions/memories/disobedience, Han and Madrigal, the Human Covenant lady, the other members of Blue Team, the Pirate guy, etc. If the show axed most of these sub plots and was just about Chief, Blue Team, top UNSC officials, and the Covenant it might actually be pretty compelling. As it stands now the covenant hasn't really even been in the picture since the first episode. The thing that made the games great was the tone. It was always an uphill battle for the UNSC against the covenant that brought humanity together. ODST is a great example too, without Spartans humanity's future was looking very grim. I'll even say it was nice that they tried to address the Spartans being used to put down rebellions before the Covenant arrived, but now it's a whole subplot that distracts from the whole narrative.
Has anyone else noticed how little action there is? There's supposed to be a war for survival going on yet violent conflicts are sparse and mostly human on human.
@@Good_Emperor , Remember. These writers are so incredibly stupid, that they had human guards completely ignore Elites dropping in and killing folks. Just to have them pointlessly chase down a couple of literal kids, to kill and beat them. Ignoring a freaking Covenant invasion, just to punish two little kids for going in break early.
There's your problem. That's Halo lore, not "Halo" TV lore. The writers have told you time and time again, they don't care for the lore, the only sometimes reference it as a way to jangle keys at you. Don't presume anything about this show, its a shitty, generic sci-fi turd that got lucky and unlocked a "Halo" skin from a lootbox.
In this shitty "alternate timeline" I don't think they have been fighting the covenant for thirty years. They just made they year 2552 for some dumb reason. This whole show is dumb and 343 should feel bad. Whoever was charged with safeguarding the lore from 343 should be fired.
"Edict of the Office of the High Prophet of Tolerance. Hear now that 500 teams are to be formed to study the language of the Unclean. Each team to consist of the most clever and most educated Unggoy and Sangheili. These teams to speak only the Unclean language among themselves. The Unclean language to be taught to all military strike teams, that the foe shall be vulnerable." In the core timeline, the Covenant themselves were quick and efficient at learning and understanding the language spoken by a foe they were literally crushing. So there is no way humanity would spend almost 30 years fighting for survival without trying to gain the HUGE advantage that is knowing your enemy's language. That's just stupid that they're like "Oh I never thought of that !"
I've never played Halo, and I'm not even watching this show, but I absolutely love these review videos. I literally look forward to the next episode each week, just for the entertainment of watching Oz get more and more jaded with the world. You guys are fast becoming my favourite UA-cam channel.
@@Vaioplayer88 Yeah, I'm pretty tempted to buy the remastered editions of the early games and play through them, or if I can't find the time for that, at least watch a playthrough on UA-cam. Oz's enthusiasm for the source material has made me want to experience it for myself.
You guys are my medium for halo because watching your usual joy and enthusiasm fall off the knife edge to equally large disappointment is just a treat :p
same, it's a treat to see them react. BEST OF ALL IT'S 2 hr+ of it. I watch halo tv series just for context but I really can't wait to watch the knights watch on the show. I just love laughing at the show and them pointing out all the dumb stuff the show does.
Medium? Now I'm saddled with a mental image of the crew seated around a Ouija board: "If there is any Halo present, please come forward! It sure isn't in this series"
Spartans had emotions in the games ( thats what makes master chiefs gestures are so powerful) they had self control and all of them posessed all the traits and qualities you could ever want for humanity's greatest soldiers without making them brainwashed! The show is a complete cracked mirror where everything is completely backwards and is geting worse and worse with each and every episode. Mark my words it will get worse, then they'll blame the true fans for it again Thanks for the video shade and Oz ( the true fans! Ultra respect! ) keep it up!
You brought up a very important trait, i.e. self control. Honestly a lot of the terrible shows running today have characters with zero self control. This manifests in these constant displays of emotion and quipping (as characters just blurt out stupid lines instead of getting on with it). This approach shows in the new Star Trek shows. It just gets irritating as hell. I mean, Star Fleet is a quasi-military organisation. There is supposed to be a chain of command, professionalism and respect for rank, and this is clear in the early series, from OS to Voyager and Enterprise. Instead you get this inane banter, written by writers who're trying to be clever. This, plus the constant back chatting by characters to their superior officers does my head in.
Yea, here we go. Riding to another franchise death. Your reviews makes me excited for the amazon show rings of power. I can not wait to see how you will tear that woke peace apart.
Loving these longer videos. So nice to be able to put the headphones in a have two hours of relaxing dialogue ( till Oz or Shad blow their lids). Just wish Ben was here.
My job Is physical labour intensive so my medium is to listen to UA-cam instead of watch. So everything shad and the boys do which is dialogue and discussion heavy is just perfect... Helps that they're jolly good chaps as well.
I took a short break from watching their videos while Ben was still here. Then when I came back, he was gone. I still have no clue whatever happened to him.
The covenant need to glass madrigal, Kwon story done, easy, simple. The emotion chip in spartans is so dumb, they turned "greek gods of war, but far more ferocious and effective" into children who can't control their emotions without pills. They were never suppressed like that, but they were put through SO MUCH LITERAL TORTURE that they can handle ANYTHING. They were trained to ADAPT OR DIE. Have your feelings, have your regret, have your own thoughts, but do whatever it takes to protect humanity and hopefully survive, but if you have to die to protect humanity, then so be it. They learn that as fucking 6 year olds, they don't even cry when they're told they can't return to their parents. Spartans were chosen for a REASON, they had a predisposition for being a fucking animal, and they were trained to control it. But they don't need to be ruthless protectors of humanity in the show, because the covenant don't seem like they care at all about humanity, considering Madrigal isn't glassed yet. The whole pet thing is actually really interesting, but they ruin it in the show, why have the emotion pill if they've already been through killing their pets? They were trained to control their emotions? Or were they not and they need an emotion pill? They even ruined the coin scene with John... at school... beating the shit out of all the other kids in king of the hill... where she explains to Keyes she just found the reason WHY John is special. He's either lightning fast, incredibly lucky, or he wills his truth into reality. No matter which option, he's special. Nah, he touched a rock, that's why he's special now.
I'll go one further, I want The Flood to sweep over the galaxy. The Gravemind may be preferable to this. Wouldn't surprise me if they decided to make The Flood the ultimate good guys.
You could even have had an additional dimension to the Spartans - showing how some of them have increasing mental issues that even break through their standard military conditioning, and you could have had the Covenant have individuals who were taking advantage of that fact.
@@Good_Emperor : I've heard about a theory that the Covenant spy girl is a self-insert character for one of the writers which acts as a replacement for the Arbiter. The writers could have easily gotten the Arbiter into the show in a similar manner to Teal'c from Stargate SG-1. They could have written into the story of the Arbiter discovering the prophets betrayal of the Sangheili due to the Brutes taking over and the Arbiter joins the humans in order to free his people.
Just finished watching it. They've now added two more butts to the show. And Master Chief wore his helmet for about three seconds. It also really did nothing to move the plot. One key plot reveal that we already pretty much knew. And good God I hate their Cortana. She looked like an annoyed soccer mom. I can't get past that.
They've already woke tantrumed away from Naked Cortana. She's clothed in Infinite's flashbacks. They know Cortana and Weapon are different, and they know we know. But only kids can be "sexy". (Ugh. Shouldn't havd thought that sentence while eating.)
@@KopperNeoman Infinite is a trash game. I always liked that Cortana got sexier. To me it was an evolution of the character meant to increase her appeal to MC. The more connected they became the more physically attractive she made herself appear to him. The woke just don't understand nuance. If she'd have been a three hundred pound lady Shrek they'd have called her beautiful and left it in, but if she is hot then they have to bury her under a burkha.
I like how you broke away for a few minutes at a time and talked about the real problems that are going on in the real world right now, it's reassuring to know that others are realizing it.
So refreshing to see true fans who aren’t scraping the bottom of the barrel for positives. This is a major studio taking hold of a beloved IP to make money, we have every right to be critical. Therefore we should continue to call out this absolute garbage at every turn and hope that they take this into account for season two
theyre not even doing it to make money tho. they are wasting millions and millions of dollars to push a political agenda by disrespecting a video game franchise that had absolutely nothing to do with it.
that was actually a great scene... It could have been luck or it could have been skill. Either way Chief was a guy who just made things happen. Cannon Halo knew better than to explicitly answer that question, because Master Chief works best if you let him keep some of his mystery. Give him a mission, he'll get it done, any way he has to. but no, he has to have deep seated mental issues and the military has to be the bad guys who gave them to him. Because that's somehow interesting....
... I watched a cut-scene compilation from the games and it was such an incomparably better story than this series it's unbelievable. Although it did go downhill noticeably after Halo III.
It was also hilarious how he just randomly dug holes. Don't they have any kind of scanner so search the ground for anomalies, like *current technology* ground-penetrating radar, but maybe a bit more sophisticated and aligned with the other technology that's shown?
That moment when a scifi TV show that's set roughly 500 years into the future somehow comes off as having far less tech than modern day... Do these motherfuckers, like, not know what a metal detector is?
@@LumosX Just digs holes for a metal case when they could've used, wait for it, a fucking metal detector. How does a scifi tv show set 500 years in the future come off as far less advanced than modern fucking day
No gun oil would not dye hair in my experience it is applied to guns lightly as not to attract too much spent powder as to clog up the mechanics of the weapon . Meant to be regularly re applied after cleanings
@@agitatedatom yep. stuff I've always used is pretty much just clear. I do know of other types of grease that are red, though, like John Deere bearing grease.
Episode 4 and the entire Halo tv series is one of the worst and boring things I've ever seen. It's an insult to Halo fans and fans of cinema. The only positive are The Knights videos, keep up the good work gentlemen
That or undiluted by Ttue Fans like myself. I’m not as purist as Oz, but I loved the games. Meant to get around to playing 5… that may or may not happen in the next decade….
If his dad was so upset about the drawings, why didn’t he just burn them or tear them up, or at the very least throw them away? And why was he upset in the first place? Literally the *only* is because the writers needed Chief to dig them up, because they couldn’t think of a better way to have him learn about his connection to the artifact. Terrible writing.
Here's what I imagine happened. The producers are looking for a transsexual actor who hasn't transitioned yet. "We'll be the first to write a tv show with an actor transitioning WHITHIN the show!" "You're a genius!" They find this guy. "Yes. We know you're transitioning. You're so brave. We're gonna write a show around your transition! How bout that?" "Sheryl! What IPs do we have that we can use for this?" "Well we just bought Halo." "Halo? Well whatever sure. We'll use that!" "We're gonna write a Halo show for you and at the end we'll play that Beyonce song... NO! You'll be singing it... while dancing... wearing a tutu."
This show reminds me of when people try to write historical or military stories with only a surface level of understanding. When making basic decisions are supposed to be clever.
The best part of these reviews is Shad going into HALO blind, making him part of the general audience the creators supposedly made this garbage fire for. And even he hates it.
I love how they are treating Deuterium like it's some sort of unobtanoum. And are mining for it. On a desert planet. Instead of... oh, just making it out of water like we do, now.... Or that people would immediately strip and scrap something as valuable as a working Starship.
Thinking on it, I feel early seasons GOT was the last faithful adaptation of *anything* within the western canon. I am legitimately having a hard time thinking of a single work post S4 (GoT or otherwise) that was respectful of the source material (wait... exactly ONE exception; *Arcane*). Once upon a time, I'd have been excited to hear that Halo or Elder Scrolls was getting a show. Even if campy; I'd knew they'd try to get it right. Now such an announcement is more likely to fill me with dread than anything else.
The new Dune movie was also fairly good - it had its hiccups, but you could at least tell the director had passion for the series and wanted to present this interesting world to a new audience without completely butchering the original source material. Other than that, though, I’m not sure I can think of any other examples either.
In the first episode The mounted turret that Chief took and fired at the elites is magically back on the freaking truck the next frame when he clearly threw it to the floor. There's 0 effort from the very beginning. watch carefully, I'm not lying.
The turret being magically effective when a spartan uses it. The non rotoscoped cardboard plasma pistol. "Sir, covenant phantom" that they could all clearly see minutes ago if not right from the compound. He removes his helmet in the very first episode. Yeah, I didn't have high hopes.
Making him the chosen one through having touched an artifact on his childhood reduces the character's value of who he is. In the game he was the right person at the right time to save humanity made to solve a different problem. In show he is special cause he touched an artifact as a child.
I've been a fan of Shads channel since the early days. I've been a fan of Halo since 2001. Watching the two come together on Knightswatch, even when the TV series is soo bad.. has been amazing. I'm also surprised at how much they have addressed the culture wars.. kind of relieving to be honest. Quality content. I'm glad I subbed.
Even dumber about asking the Spartans for Covenant language 30 years later, they should have realized this sooner, because that's where the got personal shielding technology from....you're telling me they had the thought enough to reverse engineer shield tech..but NOT the language? You'd think they would have done that BEFORE. You have first contact with an alien species and your first thought is to steal their technology but not attempt communication? For all you know the war could be a massive misunderstanding...
According to Canon lore the war starting from a misunderstanding is very unlikely. The Covenant initiated first contact with a message in English announcing their intention to exterminate humanity and their reasons before immediately following through with that threat and promise (from what I recall). They knew exactly what they were doing.
@@Good_Emperor Because they need a reason for the game to happen, lore is often created after the fact. But really it's not directly a statement of the game, just sort of common sense. For aliens in general. It's one thing if you only have ONE home planet that's about to be destroyed obviously you're not going to have time to consider that as an option, but when you have several and a multi year war, communication would be something to pursue and likely to happen before being able to reverse engineer their technology. Besides, as paramount claims, "it's a different universe"...we have no idea what caused this version of the conflict...could be a drunk janitor hitting the fire button and blowing up a covenant scout ship for all we know. (Being facetious obviously)
@@zeroryuj6093 Yes I do agree, even in the worst scenario you'd still try to communicate with the aliens to try negotiate peace or at least a temporary cease fire. It's on them if they absolutely refuse to communicate as they continually engage in warfare. Also I'm strongly doubting the writers of this show could write a common sensible initiation of the conflict even one based on a "misunderstanding". I don't think they have any idea how the war started based on their own story.
I generally think it speaks to the evil of the fictional antagonist faction when their victims unconditionally surrender and try to communicate that in every way possible and you know they can receive and communicate in return yet just kills away like it's completely okay to do.
@@Good_Emperor I disagree on the aspect that they don't know any better, they claim they didn't read the books and didn't talk about the games, but they make clear references to both. How would someone who didn't look at the lore know that Hunters are worm colonies that can (although it's never established in the games, ONLY in the books) separate and act on their own? They know characters from the books like NCO Mendez. The get the insurrection against the UNSC, how the children were stolen by Hasley etc, they're even taking the "rouge master chief" plot point from H5... I think they know and are intentionally creating bad content to destroy the franchise...conspiratorial yes, but someone on staff clearly knows lore and is directly contradicting it. I extend this to nearly all shows and movies, they know, but I think they hate the content and actively do things like this to piss people off so they walk away from the IP's. These people are clearly out to ruin franchises, again and again we see Hollywood have no intention of making content for the people they should be for. Sure wins, beloved franchises decades old, something that she be hard to screw up..unless you were doing it on purpose.
I'm not surprised, looking at the writers they've mostly done poorly written things, like the last tv show the executive did was Wild Bill, which got cancelled after the first series, and almost all of his other stuff got mid range reviews too.
On using gun lubricant to die hair. That's a horrible idea. If there's something in the oil to turn your hair red that's definitely some sort of toxic chemical or mineral that your applying directly to your head and then sticking that head in a helmet. She should also probably have a shaved or very close to shaved head depending on the interface with the helmet. Having little to no hair would also make the fit of the helmet better and make cleaning yourself easier. these aren't civilians or even just plain soldiers, their Sparten IIs the elite of the elite. They don't go on dates or need to look pretty. It's completely pointless to their sole purpose on the UNSC.
You're forgetting that the people behind this show likely have little understanding of how militaries work and claimed not to have reviewed any of the source material.
Master Chief (and the rest of the Spartan II's, even the Spartan III's knew about their childhoods as they were ALL orphans.) has ALWAYS known about his background, he even met his childhood friend from his home planet during the battle of Earth, she had a picture of John and her when they were kids (Before John was kidnapped.) Also, Halsey and Captain Keyes met John when he was six years old. The "keep this our little secret" I think is a line she says to him after tossing a coin and giving it to him. It's from the book, Fall of Reach(?)
The sister thing between Miranda and the female spartan is only because technically speaking, they share the same mum. Halsey created the spartans and in effect, becomes the mother and Miranda is the biological daughter to Halsey, hence the sister comment.
Unless kuans story ends with her realizing the war with the covenant is bigger than her grudge with the unsc and she stops acting like a bratty child, then there is no point to her story at all.
FINALLY out for episode 4, btw can you guys make a playlist of the halo tv series. I want to watch all your reviews back to back while i do my work. It brings me so much joy watching the reviews you guys do for the halo tv series. I just watch the show just to watch you guys laugh at it.
I tried to watch the show. I generally like to form my opinions on something from personal experience, instead of just reviews. So I tried. I made it through the first episode. Then carved my way through half of the second. That was all I could stomach. Thank you all for your sacrifice, because this is absolute garbage.
Woah Oz, that's Brilliant! "The carbon they want to eliminate is YOU!" (mind blown) I love how these realizations just come to you and I wouldn't have thought of it for years.
Thanks again Shad, Oz and Nathan for the weekly reviews. I'm not watching the show but I know this video is infinitely more entertaining. Thanks for suffering on our behalf
I really appreciate these long-form videos, dudes. I hate having to find something every ten to fifteen minutes. I just hit play and relax with ya'll. Keep on rocking, brave Sirs.
didn't know they did stuff like this, but absolutely spot on about the show. The lack of anything remotely tactical was the off switch for me, but its hilarious they call him Master Cheeks too. Definitely more entertaining to watch the incredulity in people's reactions of just how poorly this was done.
Oz' obvious love for Halo, the way he talks about it, had me do just as I did when I listened to Shad's love for the Wheel of Time: make use of that audible and find my continuance infinitely richer thanks to proper stories that showed me things I wouldnt have seen in this mire I live in even if I had looked for them. Keep rocking it, lads. You've made a huge difference in my life.
I find this will go un-seen, but I was chatting with a friend, and found that as we see it, the only good thing to come from 343 for halo was the banished... But then we figured out that that wasn't made by 343, halo wars was mostly an outsourced project... So they can't make anything good.
Well yes Creative Assembly ultimately developed it, but I'm sure the Banished was a culmination of ideas pitched by both studios and many people. I don't think it was as simple as you put it, games are very much collaborative projects.
WOT level desecration would be Miranda starting show with killing her husband & baby w/shotgun while Cortana's addicted to smoking math & snorting rails of prime numbers
Producers could push “the message” in new shows without pissing off established fan bases and they wouldn’t have to deal with so much backlash, people are keen for new shows and new stories so they don’t necessarily need to piggy back off of the success of previous franchises, we can be forgiven for thinking there’s something nefarious behind it all
Here's the thing, though: they know that anything NEW they would make would get zero traction, so they HAVE to climb over the corpse of a franchise that they hijacked. It's the only way they can get any kind of traction at all so they can push "the message."
I could see writers just being young and naive and politically charged but seasoned producers must know about the rift they’re causing by misrepresenting the traditions that were used to make the shows that we love, and I agree “the message” just isn’t as profitable or appealing as sjw’s would like it to be
@@duffman5504 producers are traditionally the reason a show goes to shite, they are the suits and have zero talent or understanding of the matter. If they were decent they would be writers or directors themselves
Anything new would need to be extraordinarily good to get the amount of traction and views that even a crappy show gets by reusing existing IP. THere is a reason if in most cases movies that do good are extended well beyond reasonable and there are sequels of sequels
I've learned 2 things today; 1)Watching the Watch review the "Halo" show is better than the thing itself and 2)Never try to paint minis when Oz is able to open his mouth and talk. I screwed up a nearly complete cloak highlighting because I was laughing too hard.
When you started talking about the Needler it dawned on me. What about the Cole Protocol in the show? You know taking Covenant tech with you is forbidden to prevent tracking devices from making their way to human space
Good point but Cole protocol doesn’t apply to everything, the UNSC has definitely captured alien weaponry and researched it, Avery Johnson was irradiated by a cache of plasma grenades captured by the UNSC. They can’t bring hijacked ships into UNSC controlled space but weapons? That they can.
I'm going to call it how this show will end, cheeks will die and the girl will take his place, and the season will end with someone asking her name and she will say she is master cheeks
I have to thank the show for one thing, getting reviews like this is good entertainment. Thanks for the reviews they are great. The Kwan side plot feels like a completely different show attached to a bad Halo hatefic as you all called it haha.
That whole Qwan resistance arc is so very stupid. Why does she still care about "the resistance" when aliens are coming to kill everyone regardless of their politics?
I think the writers got confused and thought they were doing another star wars spin off.. but muh rebellion!.. I swear if they actually go on quest to find these "mystics" in the desert im fast forwarding it
The resistance arc would be a good idea if the Covenant completely wiped them out, because that means the character can't go back and only has revenge as a motivation for fighting the Covenant, but that would mean fighting alongside the UNSC, which is already shown as a "bad organization" , so if they did that, it would imply she's okay with it.
Your guys’ commentary is easily the best thing to come out of this show. It’s staggering to see them butcher such a good and easy to follow script. If Cheeks was in the games humanity would be destroyed because their bets soldier is not only a big baby but a psycho. Chief didn’t care about his past, it happened, can’t change it, he is who he is and most important, ALL OF HUMANITY NEEDS HIM TO BE THAT. He’s an unwavering ass kicking killing machine that’s why he’s the best of the best.
As an old PC gamer I have never played Halo, but the passion and adoration Oz and Nathan have for the series make me wanna play it. I think I'm gonna pick up the Master Chief Collection in the next steam sale. Also: I like how Oz progressively swears more and more each episode... xD
‘They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again! The line must be drawn HERE! THIS far, no farther!’ -Picard
Just go watch "Soldier" with Kurt Russel and see how much of this series was taken from that movie. Halo tv is "Soldier" made into a tv series with a Halo paintjob. But where Soldier was exactly what it says on the tin. A 90's action film with a pointless plot. It has characters that aren't all cringe and fun action scenes.
If they weren't bothered to base the show on the Halo games they could've at least taken influence from something like Band of Brothers, a war show with some decent character stuff
The live action trailer for ODST had a Band of Brothers feel to it. Everything from starting at basic training, to landing on the battlefield in drop pods, and then at the end a group of ODSTs holding a brief funeral for one of their own.
The coin flip thing killed me they are at best second rate fan fic no understanding of the greater lore giving shallow refs to games and books ( insert scream of frustration )
When the good ending is the aggressive hive mind who controls it's victim's thoughts and wants to take over the galaxy winning is the good ending ...maybe that's their scheme
It's so painful, so true Theres a interview to the 343 CEO and it's just broad design to everything and marvel as a inspiration Sums up how little they care for their audience, just more and more so everything has to be safe, copy paste and dumbed down Casual audience will not care past their own personal enjoyment
I keep asking myself how this travesty got green lit, I noped out after episode 1. I have much more enjoyment and entertainment watching you guys shit on Gaylo the TV show than the actual show. Now back to Mike and Rich shit on Picard. BTW: The story in the games hasn't gotten any better either, Infinite has great gameplay but a very lackluster story and the multiplayer...RIP Halo. 🤦♂️
Halo 4 had a great storyline and looked at the end to force Chief to grow without Cortana… then they went off the rails in Halo 5 and made Cortana a villain and making chief effectively simp for her… and then realizing how bad that storyline was they brought Cortana back in Halo Infinite as the weapon… and then this absolute dumpster fire of this show…wth are they thinking.ll
I think: You can't even burn a paper to dispose of it. you might as well put it in time capsule to complete the screw up. Shad: What about time capsule😆 Fans think: Why didn't they translate the writings? Shad and Oz: Why didn't you translate it for 20 years? I could say great minds think alike BUT It is COMMON SENSE. Halo writers should watch Arrival (2016), the whole planet was trying to translate the alien language from the first time they make contact. The pratoganist is a LINGUIST!
This show has the same problem The Wheel of Time had - most of it is unnecessary and delays getting to anything substantive. The whole insurrection plot just takes time away from fleshing out the conflict between humanity and the Covenant, fleshing out the Spartans more through action instead of exposition, hell, if they wanted to have a side story, they could just adapt Reach and watch Noble squad figure out what the Covs want, leading up to the glassing and then pay it off with the jump to Halo in the finale. Hell, they could even tick some of their mandatory boxes while they're at it, because the team in Reach had a Latino and a woman Spartan missing an arm. But that would take budget and more film making effort than just having peoplr stand there and talk, so we can't get that.
What confuses me is why Paramount+ looked at the CW and thought yeah that model is a great idea. Star Trek discovery, Star Trek picard, Halo....an unholy trinity of shite.
I've been happy with it, could do less with the culture stuff and focus on the shit writing but it's their video, they can talk about whatever the fuck they want.

He is dead in EP 1 lol
@@CrèmeTropBrûlée here's the thing though, chief has always been one of the better spartans in general. IIRC only Kurt performed better on average. and that's because kurt's a natural leader IIRC.

How about this…
A black screen, ship sirens blaring, Jen Taylor’s voice over an intercom ‘abandon ship, all hands abandon ship.’
A flash of light.
Title card.
You forget: The writers didn't play the games. They wouldn't know that.
They didn't play the games, no wonder they fecked it 😅
SPARTANS, originally, were highly effective because of their versatility. They didn't need constant oversight, you just dropped a squad into a mission area with an objective, and they'd get it done however they needed to. Master Chief was the best because he was effectively unbreakable, no matter what the odds, no matter what the mission, he'd get it done. None of that has carried over into the show, and it's turned it into generic sludge
It doesn't have any substance beyond the superficial look of real Halo. the characters are boring, bland, or morons.
@@Good_Emperor ,
Remember. These writers are so incredibly stupid, that they had human guards completely ignore Elites dropping in and killing folks. Just to have them pointlessly chase down a couple of literal kids, to kill and beat them. Ignoring a freaking Covenant invasion, just to punish two little kids for going in break early.
@@zeph6182 If you watched the Kurt Russel film 'Soldier' you'd know that the show writers didn't do their own thing at all...
@@sespider Yes, I know. I have read literal actual fanfics with better writting.
I'm amazed they have been fighting the Covenant for thirty years and presumably losing badly as humanity looks calm, unworried, and so unrushed.
**Hits space blunt**
"So uhhh... Commander... Maybe we should... Like... Write something down."
"Naw man... We'll just wing it."
The Unclean language to be taught to all military strike teams, that the foe shall be vulnerable."
In the core timeline, the Covenant themselves were quick and efficient at learning and understanding the language spoken by a foe they were literally crushing. So there is no way humanity would spend almost 30 years fighting for survival without trying to gain the HUGE advantage that is knowing your enemy's language. That's just stupid that they're like "Oh I never thought of that !"
Also, intercepting enemy communications makes no sense if you don't even know what is being said. :/

Spartans had emotions in the games ( thats what makes master chiefs gestures are so powerful) they had self control and all of them posessed all the traits and qualities you could ever want for humanity's greatest soldiers without making them brainwashed!

Thanks for the video shade and Oz ( the true fans!

@@sigmacademy You mean like The Arbiter in the games who's not in this show at all?
@@Good_Emperor : I've heard about a theory that the Covenant spy girl is a self-insert character for one of the writers which acts as a replacement for the Arbiter.
One key plot reveal that we already pretty much knew.

that was actually a great scene... It could have been luck or it could have been skill. Either way Chief was a guy who just made things happen. Cannon Halo knew better than to explicitly answer that question, because Master Chief works best if you let him keep some of his mystery. Give him a mission, he'll get it done, any way he has to.

"You're a genius!"
They find this guy.
"Yes. We know you're transitioning. You're so brave. We're gonna write a show around your transition! How bout that?"

Ranma 1/2 is more progressive than shows now a days..
It's funny that they say that Master Chief could be any skincolour because when I first played the Halo games I actually thought that Chief was black.

Master Chief (and the rest of the Spartan II's, even the Spartan III's knew about their childhoods as they were ALL orphans.) has ALWAYS known about his background, he even met his childhood friend from his home planet during the battle of Earth, she had a picture of John and her when they were kids (Before John was kidnapped.)
Also, Halsey and Captain Keyes met John when he was six years old. The "keep this our little secret" I think is a line she says to him after tossing a coin and giving it to him. It's from the book, Fall of Reach(?)

The evidence piles up. At this point, only a conspiracy theorist WOULDN'T see the nefarious plotting.
Man this came out late. Thankfully I never sleep.
I like how the guy who HAS NOT played Halo extensively is also dying inside
Oh no, I can actually see the show writers making a human and a Covenant alien falling in "love."
As an old PC gamer I have never played Halo, but the passion and adoration Oz and Nathan have for the series make me wanna play it. I think I'm gonna pick up the Master Chief Collection in the next steam sale.
Also: I like how Oz progressively swears more and more each episode... xD
Start from Halo: Reach and then to Combat evolve if you want a fun immersive experience with the games timeline.
‘They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again! The line must be drawn HERE! THIS far, no farther!’
-Picard
Evil cannot create it can only corrupt
That dead haunted look in Oz's eyes in the initial few seconds speaks volumes
3:44 I don’t know why, but that laughter from OZ makes this video even better. 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to another video of Oz's suffering.
Besides that l love these long rant/talks. Nice job 👍
Wheel of Time video game from the 90s is on GOG.
You're right, there will be combat toward the end. Bet you they will have one of the female characters save chief in that fight.
Plus Soldier had more action/fight scenes as well? :P
I'm so glad you guys watch this so I don't have to! The flood wiping everyone out would be good I think
When the good ending is the aggressive hive mind who controls it's victim's thoughts and wants to take over the galaxy winning is the good ending
...maybe that's their scheme
Literally what I said.
everyone and their grandma has asked already , i will add to the pile
SHAD NEEDS TO PLAY HALO 1, 2, 3
What the hell is O. N. I. doing???????
Oz is hilarious.
Score -999999
I am glad you do this so I do not have to watch it my self.
Thank you to the Halo TV series for inspiring me to replay Halo 1-4 instead of watching terrible "fan" fiction.
It's so painful, so true
Theres a interview to the 343 CEO and it's just broad design to everything and marvel as a inspiration
Sums up how little they care for their audience, just more and more so everything has to be safe, copy paste and dumbed down
Casual audience will not care past their own personal enjoyment
The lets keep it a secret thing I'm pretty sure is right out of the book, but I'd have to reread it to confirm.
I think: You can't even burn a paper to dispose of it. you might as well put it in time capsule to complete the screw up.
Shad: What about time capsule😆
Fans think: Why didn't they translate the writings?
I'm gonna make my hair more flammable!
Watch the 19:51 please. Oz, man you are hilarious!🤣
Shirt idea:
"KNIGHTSWATCH: WE GO PLACES"
What confuses me is why Paramount+ looked at the CW and thought yeah that model is a great idea.
Star Trek discovery,
Star Trek picard,
Halo....an unholy trinity of shite.
I genuinely never thought you guys would be the more consistent people covering this dumpster fire.
I've been happy with it, could do less with the culture stuff and focus on the shit writing but it's their video, they can talk about whatever the fuck they want.
