    LYRICS
    Looking back, you’re mistaken
    Was it drought or euphoria
That could finally make me hopeful in the fault line?
    Far from perfect illusion
Wait to walk up the island
    Double knot into silence
I could never fall in line
I can feel the rain this time
It flows from the hope spring
    Complacent in rare form
You said, “I’ll make you leave me.”
Is it all that I am?
And it’s you that I came for
Two hands are guarding my heart
    I never climbed this far
And nobody waits for me but I know
Nobody takes from me what I grow
    Secret Garden, disregard my heart
And nobody waits for me but I know
Nobody takes from me but I know
    I know
    Evidence just to please me
    Lie awake, uninspired
It could all be so easy
If I could pull out the stitch
And it’s you that I came for
Two hands are guarding my heart
    I never climbed this far
And nobody waits for me but I know
Nobody takes from me what I grow
    Secret Garden, disregard my heart
And nobody waits for me but I know
Nobody takes from me but I know
    Secret Garden, disregard my heart
    Nobody waits for me
    Nobody takes from me
    Nobody waits for me
    Nobody takes from me
Nobody waits for me (I know)
Nobody takes from me (I grow)
Nobody waits for me (I know)
Nobody takes from me (I grow)

The lead singer said in an interview that she was afraid to release this song because some people might not like that it wasn't as heavy as their other songs. Whoever can't appreciate the versatility this band has displayed over the last year or so because they don't scream every verse is missing out and just doesn't get it. What a great and meaningful song from phenomenal band, I can't wait to see what comes next.

@@sarcasm4371 Because of the way they have been essentially releasing their entire album one song at a time. Some people hear the heavy stuff and automatically assume that's what to expect. Then they release a song like this which hurts their chance to sell the whole album.

      @ninjasownpirates 3 роки тому +15

@@Posirep Well fortunately for you, they've said they've got something else heavier than Holy Roller on the album. I had seen IWABO before, but really didn't start listening until Boat Paddle and Hail Mary really sold me on Courtney. Not sure why, but people seem to forget about Belcarra. THAT is a heavy track and I'd honestly say it's the closest thing to IWABO they've made (minus the jazzy breakdowns).
Personally I'm enjoying the path that they're taking. The mathcore days of yore were fun, but in my advanced age, the chaos just makes me anxious lol I'll take a little "genericness" if it means I can listen to it at work without my brain falling apart.

Spiritbox is doing exactly what this genre so desperately needs. Not afraid to blend melodic/catchy vocals with contrasting heavy instrumentals. Deep down, even if you feel like you don’t think it matters over the booze and BS, you want to live a happy and fulfilling life and speak to others to guide them and inspire them. I've been listening to metal for a large portion of my life, but I've never had a "favorite" band above any others until Spiritbox. Sure, I had a handful of bands that I listened to more than others, but none of them have ever actually constituted as my favorite.
Courtney's vocals and lyricisms do something so positive to my brain. I don't think I've ever truly felt music in the same way that I do when she's got the mic. It's not even that I necessarily relate to any of her lyrical content, she just has a way of pulling me into the vibe in a way smoother and more comfortable way than anyone else I've listened to.
Secret Garden in particular mellows me out in an almost euphoric way that I don't think I can accurately explain. (Trying too hard to explain how music makes you feel is a great way to ruin it, as well. So I won't bother.)
From start to finish, Secret Garden is what I personally would call the perfect metal song. It's the perfect blend of what it needs to be, and is so relaxing yet empowering to listen to. It's truly set a standard for me vocally, lyrically and instrumentally that I think will be *very* difficult to be replicated or even surpassed by another song.
I'm telling y'all, there's something magical about this one...
While I do love the stupid heavy and chaotic shit that Lorna Shore and various other Deathcore bands are putting out nowadays: when I just wanna chill out and fully escape the world: Spiritbox is my choice.

    • @WillEhrendreich
      @WillEhrendreich 3 роки тому +1

"In speaking of this desire for our own far off country, which we find in ourselves even now, I feel a certain shyness. I am almost committing an indecency. I am trying to rip open the inconsolable secret in each one of you-the secret which hurts so much that you take your revenge on it by calling it names like Nostalgia and Romanticism and Adolescence; the secret also which pierces with such sweetness that when, in very intimate conversation, the mention of it becomes imminent, we grow awkward and affect to laugh at ourselves; the secret we cannot hide and cannot tell, though we desire to do both. We cannot tell it because it is a desire for something that has never actually appeared in our experience. We cannot hide it because our experience is constantly suggesting it, and we betray ourselves like lovers at the mention of a name. Our commonest expedient is to call it beauty and behave as if that had settled the matter. Wordsworth’s expedient was to identify it with certain moments in his own past. But all this is a cheat. If Wordsworth had gone back to those moments in the past, he would not have found the thing itself, but only the reminder of it; what he remembered would turn out to be itself a remembering. The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things-the beauty, the memory of our own past-are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshipers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited."
C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

This is truly amazing. It has it all. Emotion, tastefulness, technicality, feel, flow, heaviness, production, composition.. I could go on. I absolutely love this.. and I don't gush like that very often. A true masterpiece. Bravo Spiritbox. I keep listening to it over and over. Thank you.

I havent even gotten into the lyrics for this and still just got emotional on the music/melody. I love the range of styles in the songs. this is like the 4th or 5th song ive heard on this cd and it already has so much contrast. cant wait to listen to the whole thing.

While I am quite new to listening to Spiritbox, I have to say the full clean vocals throughout of this song is kind of refreshing given the style of genre. I hope they aren't too afraid to create more tracks like this in the future.
