Lyrics:
This is the final time I’m waking up
Inside I dream that doesn’t break enough of the soul I once was
In the light I once loved
I can see it shining through the trees
A reflection of a Crimson Key
And I hesitate to feel something
In the presence of a cold emotional vampire
Invited inside
I dream I die
Hidden from the light
You want to cover me in ultraviolet
To a river flowing back in time
Dream I die
Dream I die
If you can meet me in another life and
We can burn into the velvet sky
Dream I die
Dream I die
I can feel the end is haunting me
Mirror image staring back into a thousand lifetimes
Fearing what the light finds
I can see it shining through the trees
A reflection of a Crimson Key
And I hesitate to feel something
Cause I don’t belong here
You want to cover me in ultraviolet
To a river flowing back in time
Dream I die
Dream I die
If you can meet me in another life and
We can burn into the velvet sky
Dream I die
Dream I die
You know where you want to go
Never too close
Never too late
There’s always time
Dream I die

If Cellar Door to Ultraviolet doesn't prove Spiritbox's range and versatility to people, I don't know what will.
This is a band that can either entrance you in with melody and atmosphere, or absolutely melt the front of your skull with the heavier elements.
Nevermind Angel Eyes, that caused goosebumps when I first listened
almost like Sleeptoken,
I want to like Sleeptoken. But they're too slow for me. I do recognize the talent though. Props to them. @@BilboTBaggins
exactly what they did to me with this song. i absolutely love the melody, mood, atmosphere, etc. never really got into them before this, but i am wanting so much more now haha
@@erra7552yeah I rally like them but honestly they are kinda boring
After hearing the repeating lyrics of “I know where I wanna go, but it’s too close and it’s too late this time…” throughout the entire EP, to hear Courtney start soaring her vocals and close out the final song by changing it to…
3:03
“You know where you wanna go
Never too close
Never too late
There’s always time”
…heals something deep in my soul that I didn’t realize was broken.
I absolutely adore this band
You're analysis is so spot on... it's CODA.❤
Yeah that had me BAWLING on my first listen through. I'm already getting Secret Garden lyrics on my chest but damn I want too close, too late somewhere too
Damn! This is why I’m glad I regularly check comments. Never would’ve noticed this. Thanks homie
Wtf man! It's real!!!! I never would’ve noticed this either.... Thanks!
😭😭😭❤
The fact that this and Cellar Door are on the same EP is so cool. I love that Spiritbox just creates what they want, and doesn't try to stick to any rules.
Seriously makes it difficult to decide if I like angry spiritbox or happy spiritbox more.
@@ColterRasmussenI'd hesitate to call this happy 😂
And I love the fact that I, as an enjoyer of the heavy-heavy first and foremost, have this song stuck on repeat. Music is music. Bands like Spiritbox, Currents, and Invent Animate are revolutionizing the genre imo, but Spiritbox takes the cake in terms of their overall range. This is beautiful.
@@OuroborosWormyeah probably not happy. I'd describe it as emotional, melancholic, almost sorrowful with the lyrics. It's just a beautiful fucking song.
@@1TotalJabroniespecially these music videos. They have that 00s metalcore feel but with amazing visuals. I loved the exploding mirror cube in the jaded video reminded me of star wars lol
This EP came out during the week I was having a miscarriage with twins. It was an experience I could never fathom being as hard as it was. I was angry and so sad, but still had that small bit of hope it would be okay in the end. This EP, especially this specific song, will hit me in ways I never knew existed because of that experience. “If you could meet me in another life, we could burn into the velvet sky.. “ 🖤🖤
i hope you heal and find happiness in your future, this was very touching to share. my sister's going through the same thing. wishing you the absolute best- and im so glad this song has brought you comfort. we're listening with you!

This woman has the voice of an angel. What an amazing song
@@ShockwaveZero You can't judge this band based on one song, since they blend different genres, but still rooted in metal. You need to be more open-minded. Besides, this isn't even the song that earned them a Grammy nomination. It's their song, "Jaded".
@@ShockwaveZero I'm very real bro. Just go and listen to their songs. God bless you
Her ability to bring a 50 year old metalhead to tears cannot be understated.
🤣

Spiritbox has become my number 1 band. This EP’s so emotionally beautiful. Perfection. Oh and it looks like Courtney is wearing the broken mirror. We love you Courtney. We love you Mike. We love you Zev. We love you Josh. Thank you for creating a masterpiece. 💜
I didn't catch that reference, nice catch dude. That is a brilliant call back.
Agreed just saw them live and they are easily my favorite band now
Lol there are too many other good bands out there for me over spiritbox yes Courtney good mike good an the drummer good but there music always sounds the same since eternal blue they don’t change up nothing just the same o same o you need to check out motionless in white bad omens INK an others out there in the metal scene spiritbox is just a top 10 or 12 band for me seeing them live or not they just need to change up there music some I’ll put starset over them to
@@codyb6849 I listen to MIW and Bad Omens already, (seen both bands live) but thanks for your feedback. :)
@@fatality220 they're awesome, truly. Musical geniuses.
This just scratches every itch... amazing vocals, amazing instrumentals, amazing ambience, and breathtaking visuals. This whole album doesn't miss.
I love how she creates a whole story and theme throughout the EP. Hearing the same bridge from "Too Close / Too Late" in Ultraviolet but in a completely different tone is just so beautiful. Such a unique and amazing band.
Yes! Gives me that buzz 😊 Brilliant!
This makes me feel nostalgic for something that never happened.
Omg I think you answered my question as to why I want to cry to this song. Thank you ❤️
Lmao ive listend to this song about 50 times since the EP dropped and never even thought about it like that. Thanks for putting those words together for me to understand this song better.
I'm like 95% sure there's a word for this auf Deutsche but heck if I know lol
It happens in dream, explained in song lyrics
Because it happened in another life 😉
Spiritbox never disappoints, but this music video is on another level.
I love how it's not just about releasing music for the sake of music with Courtney and the guys. Spiritbox is about a cascade of sound and emotions. A storytelling experience meant to be heard, seen, and felt. 🤘🤘🤘
Yessss! I agree
This is one of those songs where I have to stop myself from listening to it on repeat because it's just so beautiful 🫠
Zev's use of ghost notes is so tasteful and adds so much, especially to the melodic and more chill parts of their songs. I love drumming to SB songs because they're heavy but still have a great feeling pocket. Plus the use of doubles with the single pedal and linear fills all over the place - just a ton of fun to listen to and play to.
yeah man them ghosts are mad here
I understand them not having real drums on the first record, but I’m glad they spent the money recording his real drums for the last couple releases, really makes it pop.
@@yourname50 I'd love for them to work with Mixwave like Mike did and make a drum sample pack. I'd buy it instantly.
@@yourname50 from what I've heard, they only recorded real drums for the rotoscope Ep. These are also programmed drums.
@@josephdamico6991Mike wrote and tracked all the drums, bass and guitar. What a beast!
I tell you all, this song will be unbelievable like the others. More seriously, this group is truly incredible, they never disappoint and every song they do is a banger or even a masterpiece.
This song is just gorgeous. It just captures you. Courtney’s vocals are second to none. Her lower register is just astounding, and she is slowly letting us hear her higher range, and her head voice. Really enjoying this new music.
Visually, lyrically, musically, this is absolute ART. thank you to all involved for this beautiful imagery 🖤🤘🏼
Courtney, your vocal range is awesome!
I don't even care that you're the best metal screamer ever. You could do a Mariah Carey album for fun.
Spiritbox & Versa Films collaboration are always my favorite. The imagery is impactful and always fits the mood perfectly.
Ugh the chorus melody is soooo good
The best band in 2023. Period. Everything’s hitting perfectly for them. Glad UA-cam recommended them!
Courtney is such an awesome front-woman, she dances, sings, screams, and just captivates the audience, the whole band is fucking epic and Courtney wraps everything together in a gorgeous ribbon
I always say to myself, if theres a band that can make 'rock' mainstream again, its this one. No misses, led by one of the most beautiful voices ive ever heard. Im in awe every time.
I've been listening to rock for 40 years. For at least half of that it has been extremely mainstream. That, said this sounds much more like generic pop to me, and it's overproduced as hell.
@@joeylummox7330 I agree. I love Spiritbox, but this song feels completely void of the Spiritbox sound and comes across like pop music. It's like the record label made them throw it on the album to have a "radio" single.
@mavven2882 you do realize spiritbox has made whatever they wanted since they were formed right? They've always had the more melodic and ambient songs like this, especially evident on Eternal Blue
@@cynicalphoenix If you think any band who signs with a decent-sized record label is just able to "make whatever they want", I've got some lunar real estate to sell you. You are allowed to like this song. It just won't be for everybody.
@mavven2882 you clearly don't know courtney or Mike then, or musicians in general. If this was the "one" radio friendly song the label forced, why is half the ep also melodic with cleans?
Blessed be the day whenever Spiritbox releases a new song/music video.
One of the most exciting bands in the scene right now. Courtney's vocals are ICONIC.
God, I love this band so much. They've never made a bad song, never made a bad anything. Always visually perfect, always musically interesting and unique...I'm just so happy when they drop new things.
Wow. Beautiful song and video.
Beautiful
This song has been on repeat for me for the past two weeks. I can’t get enough. It is absolutely beautiful
omg Courtney...... i love her... she can sing, scream, crawl etc ..... ahhhhhh
Her choreography is always on point in the music videos.
What a beautiful song!! Spiritbox don’t miss! Also great video, compliments the music perfectly.
Incredible. I really feel like Spiritbox are reaching their final form -- this EP is a perfect blend of heavy and melodic and ambient and emotional and it absolutely rips
They’ve been a band for 6 years . They’re literally just getting started. Enough with the dragonball z final form bs.
lol ok bro. they were in IWABO since 2013 so they've been creating music together for WAY longer than that. enough with the unwarranted toxicity bs @@tronlorne9328
This is a perfect blend of their old stuff and eternal blue. Glad they didnt keep going with that rotoscope sound, was not a fan.
@@Brandon-bc5um Haha, that's too bad. Rotoscope reminded me of industrial bands, like Garbage. That's why I like Spiritbox - they are willing to try anything and still make it awesome.
The melodic greatness in this song is beautiful what a song
*Song of the year.* The collaborative art on display here is breathtaking. Single-take, changing sets, creative costumes and beautifully choreographed...Hurt You monsters? Take all of my money, Spiritbox.
Not even close lol, although i respect the taste. Ren's "Money Game Part 3" takes the cake on being the hands-down best music video of the year. This song is pretty good, but not anywhere close enough to beating that.
I'm so happy to be a spiritbox fan. You don't understand how much I love this band. Courtney, Mike, Josh, and Zev are such talented and amazing people. Outstanding job on this video. HELL outstanding job on EVERY video that you guys released for this EP. I just love it. This made me cry. I love it when a song makes me cry because I can just feel the emotion. The art in the dancing and movement and everything just goes great with the song. Spiritbox you guys done it again. Thank you so much
Insane this band has written so many masterpieces. One after another.
i love the fact that cellar door's courtney is a dark version of ultraviolet's courtney. the crawling scene give me goosebumps!!
I felt so emotional listening to that. I loved the ambience. Makes me wanna bawl my eyes out fr
SAME
They have a good amount of songs I'd say 5-10 that have unmatched emotion and they are truly just SAD but so beautiful. This gets added to that list for sure
A single long shot! All the speed ramping. I can’t imagine how much planning and rehearsal this required. 👏👏👏
For real man, so much pre-pro. I mean just think about the on-set music track for her to sync to... it has to all match up in the final edit of course, so it's got to be timed out to account for the ramps and hitting marks, etc. "Simple" and cheap (and smart!) idea for a music video, but the more you think about it, the more you realize how difficult it is to execute this well.
@@daedalus_20v how are they going about speed ramping to match 24fps or slow mo to match a track at 24fps?
@@adamkoepke1366 Well, it's not necessarily shot at 24fps, but whatever frame rate they used, they shot the entire thing with the same frame rate. That's the trick. You have to know in advance where, when, and how much you want to ramp things in the edit because it's going to change the timing of how it matches up to the song in the edit. The unedited footage is no doubt much longer than what we see in the final video.
The music track used on set for her to sync her vocals is probably the trickier bit (not sure lol, I'm still deciding). Since it's audio, it was sped up or slowed down, extended, manipulated, etc. ahead of time. In other words, she's hearing it on set already sped up and slowed down and whatever else. That allows her to adjust her lip sync in real time, and when the FOOTAGE of her singing faster or slower is adjusted in the edit, it gives the effect that she's singing "normal" speed, even though everything around her isn't. Does that answer your question?
@@daedalus_20v I think so! Thank you! I work in the video and photo production world but haven't ever had to do any speed ramping so I've always been curious about it.
I always assumed they would do takes at their final export fps rate and then do full takes at their predetermined slowed down and sped up frame rates. But especially with this looking like a one take video unless they're doing a hell of a job with somehow hiding these cuts, I can't really wrap my head around how they did this.
@@adamkoepke1366 mind bending! - Im thinking they probably shot it at something like 48-60 fps and the audio track she lip synced too was ramping between half time or double time or dropping back to normal speed etc where they had the speed ramps planned for the video... incredibly well executed, getting the dancers in and out of frame and lighting que's... so good
I love heavy Spiritbox, mixed bag Spiritbox, and chill melodic make you cry Spiritbox. This song and video is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite from SB. The execution of the music video by Versa Films is phenomenal! This song is beautiful and gives me chills.

i can't really explain exactly why this makes me cry, but this is very special. those last couple of seconds are indescribably cruel, but absolutely real.
Dylan Hryciuk and Versa Films are back! I can't wait to see the storytelling in this closing song. What a ride!
For me this is the song of the decade! This EP literally saved my life, it's been the worst start of a year ever and I finally feel like myself again! 💗
Just an incredible piece of art audibly and visually. I would have love to been a fly on the wall during the recording of this video. The setting with the lighting, the costumes, the choreography is just so well put together.
Look y'all are so amazing ty for bringing my faith back to an amazing metal band ❣️😁
Crying my eyes out over such perfection. Courtney and Spiritbox as a whole.. Has made my life significantly better. Existing at the same time as them is such an honor. And this one-take music video.. There are not enough words to express how outstanding everyone did that was involved.
I was not expecting to get another video, but super stoked about it, and the fact that Versa Films produced it makes it even better! Chances are it’ll be a creepy-good video! Can’t wait!! 🤘🏼🎉

My favorite track on the EP no contest! It’s an absolute beautiful song in every way. The end is especially making me emotional. This is just pure poetry in its best form. Thank you spiritbox for blessing my life with your music.
People hearing Spiritbox for the first time who go looking for more after listening to this are going to be in for a shock
Honestly the whole EP is an exercise in whiplash and I absolutely love it
So glad I found this band, the range in Courtney's voice is incredible.

So I haven't really seen someone talk about the fact that The Fear of Fear is essentially a concept EP in the fact that all the songs have similar themes and are self-referential. Keep in mind that this is all my own interpretation and I could be wayyyyy off.
I think The Fear of Fear is the story about someone stuck in some kind of cycle, either metaphorically or literally. In this case, I view it as a cycle of immortality, or a cycle of different iterations of the same person. The reason for this is all of the different Courtneys crawling in The Fear of Fear, as well as the doubled up Courtneys in the same video, the mirrors in Jaded/Angel Eyes.
The crimson key and mirrors play a huge role in this immortality. The crimson key is the representation of whatever keeps starting the cycle of death and rebirth over, and I think the reason it's shown at the end of Cellar Door is all of those Courtneys are at the ends of their cycles, and the key is either starting it anew or the literal key to ending the cycle--"I turn my key into my burial". The reason the song is called Cellar Door is because this person is trapped in the same cycle--"Close the loophole". She also feels stagnated or pained in this cycle, which is there the cycle could be more metaphorical, like a literal fear of fear or the cycles get into when they're afraid of doing something--"I can't live in this world while I breathe in another one".
The constant imagery of the mirrors is another representation of the different Courtneys. Courtney wants to shatter or break the mirror to end the cycle, as in Angel Eyes--"This time I break the mirror when I die / An hourglass inside my mind / Turn it once to touch the sky (referring to the key ending the cycle)." Courtney breaking the mirror is killing the concept of different iterations and the idea of the cycle.
Ultraviolet is after she has broken the mirror and managed to turn the crimson key or break the cycle, and it's her final iteration--"This is the last time I am waking up". This is her way of accepting mortality or accepting the struggle the cycle has put her into and moving on from it. The outfit she is wearing is reflecting the fact she has shattered the mirror, and the different people in the video grabbing her are the people who still want her to stay alive. At the end, she accepts death and is seen laying on the ground. That, or the way the video starts the same way as it ends is a representation of the cycle repeating itself.
Anyways, this was hella long-winded. Please give me your other interpretations because there was a lot I didn't list here. TLDR, The Fear of Fear is some of their best work.
This is the best First introduction video to Spirit Box for someone who isn't into metal or harsh vocals!
Her voice 😍😍 Courtney is absolutely STUNNING.
Little pieces of her scattered all over the floor…. We’ve all been there ❤ this is beautiful 🤩
People who cry about how heavy a song is are the worst. Like Jesus, I love heavy metal but it doesn’t ALWAYS have to be screaming.
it almost sounds like a Dayseeker song, which blows my mind! absolutely stunning ✨
