Racewars is an event that shuts down Albany airport for 2 days, once a year. Heaps of incredible content coming up, but for now, enjoy a light hearted look at a rivalry that has been brewing for some time.

Racewars team have built an AU Falcon, built last year and only lasted 1 pass before it's pistons wanted to head home to Perth early. This year, WTF Auto stepped up and called them out... with a Camry.
Keen to get onboard we've shot this video over the past 6 weeks.
It's a bit of fun, bit of banter - the full race happens on the week down in Albany - stick around to see the result!

Yes I agree but often times it’s necessary for the right tires for any level of grip. Depends on what lower level though of course

The 4 cylinder model comes stock with the 5S-FE engine, the same engine used in the Celica and MR2 N/A. The 3S-GTE turbo engine can be done pretty easily as well. I would've never thought of boosting the V6, outside of a TRD supercharger, but this V6 turbo build is awesome!
Tristan is an out of the box thinker 😅
The 5SFE can be combined with the 3SGE. Use the 5S block and crank. Offset grind the crank down to suit the 3S rods, this gives you nearly 2.4 litres. Custom pistons, ours was 12.7:1 for methanol. Use the 3SGTE oil pump and the early Yamaha square port head (ST185 if I recall correct). With approx 40/80 cams this combo with mechanical injection, ITBs and coil pack ignition made 270hp aspirated and a shitty tune. Turned that mofo to 9700rpm. Would love to build one again for a street car for myself. With better rods and EFI and a big snail it would be a very serious motor.

CURRENT TOYOTA Camry LE, installed Lexus engine, installed transmission with intelligence, new cooling system, new brakes, new tires, recently pulled over for going over 120 mph. I am currently poor, getting out of my depression hoping to one day be in the driver seat of a V8 Toyota Camry. One day. GOD IS GOOD. Burgundy! Is an acquired taste.

What happened to the AU?

That engine is a 16V DOHC 2.2L. it's the same engine used in the Celica Alltrac. You can order an Altrac exhaust manifold and a CT26 will bolt right up. I did this years ago when I owned the ToyotaNation forum.
Damn how hard was it to put this together? Was gonna supercharge mine but if i can boost it, send me a full part list LOL

@@savageramirez2925 these transmissions are pretty tough if you get one in nice condition and replace the trans fluid often enough it’ll be fine for approximately 350 horsepower anything more and the trans atleast in this car will probably grenade after not much time, if you’re gonna upgrade the engine you should start with ARP head studs and upgrade the connecting rods, while the con rods are tough anything past stock is risking reliability, if you wanna be Naturally aspirated stay below 11:1 compression ratio, if you turbo it you should lower the compression to about a 8:1 or keep the piston stock compression ratio with a better piston , leave slightly more piston wall clearance in a turbo application ask your local machine shop , upgrade to i believe for most applications a 500cc injector and upgrade the fuel pump, (not because it uses more fuel particularly but more consistent flow) you’ll probably need to get your cylinder head ported , if you want legal power get a tune, ported heads , big cam thats street spec’d , a magna flow (mostly for sound but with a already ported head you’ll gain a couple hp ,
If you’re in California the magna flow the exhaust will probably get you pulled over but if you have all the CARB paperwork you’ll be fine you could also do a crankshaft which has a longer stoke(piston compresses more air in one stroke) and tuned timing to it and then focus on your cooling system, you should also get a strut bar and h brace and atleast lowering springs and throw atleast 205-215 wides
@@savageramirez2925 when it comes to engine swaps unless you do a crazy rwd swap then you’re stuck with a smaller fwd system , if you had the knowledge time and tools you could rwd swap it and definitely fit a 2jz , there’s a Scion xB that’s rwd swapped with a 2jz and it’s engine bay is smaller , if you considered anything maybe a Honda k series or b series

The 4 cylinders are still aplenty, but the v6s are unicorns. Even rarer are V6 wagons of this generation. I was so gutted when I totalled mine in a 4 car pileup...I didn't know it at the time but if I could I would've bought it back from insurance and paid for repairs myself assuming it wasn't a statutory write off.
I've got a V6 version and have spent more on it than any rational person should for a 25 year old vehicle, but I'm having a blast tinkering with it and shit. Upgraded the rear sway bar and goddamn the thing sticks to the road like glue around corners now. Got an improved front exhaust pipe and the car actually has a bit more pull at higher rpms now lol.

Its nice to see something like this, i had a 92 camry 4 cyl in high school in 2003, it was slow and got 21 mpg. Lots of memories of that car but it was slow. My classmates had eg civics with the b16 si, mini me, Gsr, and i never got close to their acceleration.

@@joydrive , in the USA, the most recent Toyota Camry models have had a lot of success in NASCAR, especially when they put in a heavily modified version of the V8 engine that is used in the Toyota Tundra TRD. The horsepower, torque, and red line numbers are around what is in a base Hellcat engine from Chrysler/FCA/Stelantis products, just to give you a perspective of how crazy powerful those cars are on the track.

I have a 2000 model 3 ltr v6 stock except for heavy duty rear springs and new struts 6 years ago,it just goes and goes, i've had it up to 190kph on the back road no problem

You'd have to check the original build videos, this car long gone in afraid! But from memory it was some crazy combination of parts to make the suspension

Are there any aftermarket transmission upgrade options for the 96 5 speeds? I want to do a 5SGTE Frankenstein build but the S51 trans can't hold power for shit, or so I've heard. What options are there?

Camry was a 4cyl model only ( pov pack), Vienntas were a premium level, all v6s and were the flagship of toyota comfort in australia until the Australian designed avalon came out, then camrys did away with the viennta v6 models and camrys came with both 4 and 6 cyls onwards.
These are becoming cheap and reliable fwd tyre burners these days, strong bottom end in those v6s.
