Wow!!! I have seen people make beautiful tote bags with placemats but never thought that we could make cute purses with a simple potholder. I think I will make a purse for coins by stitching the sides and a zip, thanks for the idea 😜
Mam, Your potholder caddy is awesome!! I am getting ready to have a craft sale at the end of the month and I came on tonight to look for simple ideas to make on a budget. I have tons and tons of fabric as my grandmother use to own her own fabric shop - so I was looking for cute easy ideas for some new crafts to sell. As soon as you mentioned that you need to take your shoes off I thought to myself, "wow, this gal is like me". When I use to sew with a treddle foot machine I always sewed with my shoes on and I would get that treddle going very fast but, now with the modern day peddle I have to sew barefoot as I have more control over it that way too. Most of the pot holders I sell I also make but, I don't believe my pot holder will work for your little bags. I will start watching for the pot holders on sale at various stores. I believe my Dollar Tree might have your type of pot holder too along with the zip lock bags. These little purses would be ideal for teen girls also and small enough for their lockers. I think they would be good for sun glasses/eye glasses but, you cannot sew the sides completely up so you have room to slip in the glasses. Thank you for an awesome new craft idea. - Rebekah in Alexandria, VA PS: Where are you from with your thick southern accent? I am from NJ so you can imagine how I sound. My niece laughs at how my mother, grandmother and I say coffee. Her father is from NC so after a summer with her other grandparents, my niece comes home calling all of us "ya'll". Have a blessed spring 2019!!
- This is THE reason to save your salvages. Place a salvage in the middle to sew on. It'll lengthen the time before the threads break thru. Makes it easier to sew, too. Nice project.
I made eye glass cases from the same kind of potholder. I sewed it up so that one short end is the opening and attached a magnet closure. I also made one to hold my cell phone. Thank you for sharing your Idea.
This is the most creative sewing project I’ve ever seen. I love it! And it’s things used around your home. Totally going to make one for my kids to store things for car rides💕 thanks for sharing this!
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
Fabulous project, this would be a great travel bag for carrying crochet hooks or double pointed needles. Or maybe for your embroidery threads and needles. Thank you for sharing this wonderful project with us.
What a fun idea! You would love using the “wonder clips” to hold the plastic bags down on the sides, instead of the tape. Look for them in the quilting part of fabric shops, or order online.
I am so glad this popped up to view! I have been trying to create a pouch for my purse! My husband bought me the cutest purse that is a western saddle. However it is small! Nothing fits. Whew! I'm making this ASAP! Plus, its a great gift idea! Thanks again!!
Love this!!!! you could also use it for coupons for when you go to the store. Put your coupons in the zip lock bag. Each bag could be used for a different kind of coupon and they are easy to see what coupons you have.
Such a good idea! Just a tip, if you're interested; I have used the folded pot holder and button idea for another project. I've found that if you use one of the buttons with a shank on the back it holds better. The flat buttons often don't give the loop enough to grip onto and they slip off the button easily.. And in this project, that would give a little extra expanding room, too, in case you were to use the little pouches for things that might puff it out a little, like makeup or something.
I know what I'll be doing this weekend now. Making these. This is a great idea especially for vendor shows. I have the same sewing machine to. I just bought mine at Wal-Mart 3 days ago. Thankyou for this idea
Thanks for sharing your tutorial for making these adorable little purses! I can think of many users for these and my great granddaughters will love 'em!
These are so cute! My mom used those tins for buttons too, and other sewing supplies .I will be making some of these for Christmas gifts, thanks for sharing.
Great idea! I'm going to try making one with a placemat that I can use for traveling, for my small travel items and then hang it , on the bathroom door or the tool rack, with a loop sewn on and a small hanger. Thanks for the idea.
I do love these easy projects! One observation is that the buttons need a "shank" to close properly using the loop on the pot holder. Some buttons have them but you can make one on a flat button. You can search on youtube for "how to make a shank button". It's easy! The loop will close better and stay closed.
I put shanks on buttons on clothing mostly. The skirt and blouse I made that won an award had shanks on the closings. I've been making these for years with no issues. :)
No offense meant. Just thought it would let the loop lay flatter and be easier to button it up with a shank I guess. lol I knew you probably know how to do it, just a note for others.
I have several eye glass cases made from potholders. Just fold one in half with the loop at the top. Sew the seam along the bottom and up the side. Remember to back stitch at the top edge where the stress will be. Top remains open, of course. A square pot holder is larger by a 1/4 to 1/2", but the curved edged potholder is cute, too. You don't have to bind them. I've seen them with a tiny zipper, a snap, velcro, ribbon, and a button for closing.
Wow...what a terrific idea. Your Video was well done. As a Seamstress and Crafter this is so easy to do for gifting. Thank you for all the details you shared. gotta find me some Potholders now. LOL This is also good for Vitamins and Supplements when traveling. No need to carry the bottles. Can mark each bag with the type of Supplement/Vitamin and dump in a bunch or count them out for days of the trip. Thank you so much this is great. You got my Subscription and a Thumbs UP.
Sweetie, this is so adorable 🌟 my daughter is a make-up artist and could use many, for her small items, I am going to surprise her with a gift of these, thank you for a wonderful craft idea💫
You are the cutest crafter and funny. I love your ideas. I hope I get time to make these they’re so neat Thanks for sharing. Purse caddy. Thanks now I know the name of this project.
I made these several years ago to hold crochet hooks, stitch markers etc. Gonna try it again, but I'm gonna use my wonder clips instead of tape see if it works.. Thanks for video
What a super cute, super easy project. First time viewer of your channel, adding you to my list of channels to watch. I'm a new subscriber, LOVE IT!! WOW... I sew with my boots off too, can't feel the peddle with it on. Can't wait to get caught up on all the fun videos I've missed. I'm pretty sure I've got a bunch of potholders somewhere in my "I might need these for something" stash, now i know what to do with them, Thanks.
P.S. thanks for showing putting on your name. I received a cricut for Christmas and can add different things on it. Thanks for that idea too.. great job
I'm from NC as well, I can totally relate to your southern accent and way of talkin. I enjoyed this video, I just might try making these purse caddies. Tfs
I love your video. Really a neat idea. The pot holder would make a great eye glass holder too. If you're doing matched items. They have snack bags that are half the size too.
oh my gosh!!! I thought I was the only one that sewed with my shoe off. I just have to have the feel of the pedal. lol By the way I liked the baggy idea. I'm going to try using the snack bags to see if I don't have to cut the rest of the bag off. I'll let you know how it turns out.. thanks
Hey , Southern girl . First time watcher ,but definitely not the last. Love your cute little potholder purse . So , you can't sew with shoes on , guess what ? I can't either . What a great idea. It drives me nuts how all the little things pile up at the bottom of my purse. It would be great when traveling also to organize. Thanks for sharing this craft.
I don't understand how anyone can sew with shoes on. This is SUCH a cute idea. I'm thinking it would be great for a knitting or sewing bag to keep track of all of the little stuff.
I'm so glad I've found other people who can't sew with shoes on! I learned to sew on a machine that was powered by a knee lever, and that was ok. But when I started using a foot pedal, I had to take my shoes off lol

Wow! This is great! I’m a flight attendant who loves making things like this as gifts. Made tons of zippered pouches. Time for something new. Thanks!

@Leonardo Beau Instablaster :)
Clever idea, you could even make your own potholder if you like to quilt and sew!
You definitely can, and I use them myself when I quilt. For this, I was trying to keep it as cheap and easily accessible as possible.
I am so glad this popped up to view! I have been trying to create a pouch for my purse! My husband bought me the cutest purse that is a western saddle. However it is small! Nothing fits. Whew! I'm making this ASAP! Plus, its a great gift idea! Thanks again!!

Be good for going to the lake for a few things you need on the boat. Awesome idea thank you!

I chuckled when you said you had to take your shoes off. I have that same habit. 🤷🏼♀️ Works for me !
You had me at “Great Value” sandwich bags. You are my spirit animal. Subscribed. My mom kept her extra bits in a Doan’s Pills back pain tin.
These are so cute! My mom used those tins for buttons too, and other sewing supplies .I will be making some of these for Christmas gifts, thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome!
Great idea! I'm going to try making one with a placemat that I can use for traveling, for my small travel items and then hang it , on the bathroom door or the tool rack, with a loop sewn on and a small hanger. Thanks for the idea.

They make awesome eye glass holders! Yes, the snack sized bags can work as well, but won't give you as much 'usable' space.
Love 💕 it, and love the way you explain everything, so cute
Great idea! thank you. I'm going to try that next time I go to the Dollar Store.
oh my gosh!!! I thought I was the only one that sewed with my shoe off. I just have to have the feel of the pedal. lol By the way I liked the baggy idea. I'm going to try using the snack bags to see if I don't have to cut the rest of the bag off. I'll let you know how it turns out.. thanks
