100%, first noticed this when I was 10, came back from a wedding in a suit, went to a shop with an adult and the cashier gave me the change back, never had this before
Agree on all points. Started building my wardrobe and followed these same tips a few years ago. Today the best dressed at work and get compliments all the time. I find that my wardrobe positively impacts the quality of my work. Both go hand in hand.
An additional hint. Create the habit of preparing your outfit before going to bed. This avoids a morning chaos and gives you time to better select your outfit according to the event ahead. Also, a man in a rush looses most benefits of being well dressed.
100% agree. My dad would always tell me to prepare for the next day by preparing clothes before going to bed. Has helped me so much mentally the next day.
I love that he specifically mentions going for slightly fuller cuts, pleats and maybe even slightly fuller pants if you can go for suspenders. And he made that claim 4 years ago... He wasn't falling for the latest fad of suits that are too tight, with pants and sleaves that are cut way too short. I also appreciate how you can do all of the above even on a budget. Whether you paid a little or a lot might have some impact on quality, everything you should be clean, in good condition, pressed where it needs to, and properly fitted to your body.
I was in my bespoke French navy blue flannel Sartoria Solito bespoke suit today and I have to say it was as comfortable as pyjamas in my walk around London! When things fit properly! Wow!
e usana Yes I know but with 3.000.000.000 men on the planet, think the sky is the limit here. He is that kind of snobb that you want to hugg, how unlikely isnt that. He made me want to be a better man.
i know Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
@Ronan Sullivan thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Such simple, great advice. Looking good and being well dressed doesn't mean spending a fortune. Dressing well is enjoyable, and people will indeed treat you better.
I'm glad that he cautioned towards keeping one's suit fit a little roomy as nowadays it is trendy to have suits that are slim fit and many men will end up wearing their suits too tight.
I've just discovered your channel and it's a joy. I have a friend who did a short apprenticeship at Anderson and Sheppard and made me a suit many years ago. He still makes his own clothes as a hobby and the suit he made me still wears beautifully feels very special when I have an occasion to put it on. As you say when something is bespoke it's truly another level of comfort.
Great video! I do disagree with two things though: (1) new shirt every day is essential, and (2) slightly disagree that your back blade of a tie should be allowed to extend beyond the length of the front one.
As a short person, sometimes having the back blade being too long is inevitable depending on the tie length. I don't see it as a big problem since it can just be tucked into the shirt placket. Shorter ties aren't always easy to find.
Awesome video, maybe my favorite one yet. I especially like how EMPHATICALLY you state that if a man isn't comfortable in his suit it doesn't fit and that a well fitted suit is the most comfortable thing a man can wear. Great job!
As always, well presented with excellent tips. I am pleased that you put hygiene at the top of your list. I have always said tongue-in-cheek that hygiene is not just a greeting.
Good morning Kirby Allison, what great video in teaching men how to keep up with being clean especially today world , alot of men or woman just don't care how they look or smell ... You are right when you wear suit or better dress society treat you in a better way . Thank You
I live in SW Florida where we get, perhaps, a week or so of cool weather from December through January. Dressing well in a sub-tropical climate presents many challenges and it’s all too easy to default to the shorts and flip flops in the name of comfort. I’d love to see a video channel, blog, forum etc that focuses on the well dressed man in warmer climates that challenges the overdone Tommy Bahama look.
Kirby: Thank you for another great video! I think the most important of these suggestions is personal hygiene, one that seems to fallen off logarithmically in recent years. In addition, I feel fragrances should be used sparingly, especially inexpensive one since they may bother those around you. Investigate the ingredients, but purchase high quality, maybe not the most expensive; softer scents are usually better than sharp.
Hi Kirby, I love your videos. I find it hard to believe that some men don't know how to dress. I come from a family of tailors and tonsorial artists. I love getting well dressed. But it is not for everyone. Thanks very much for your time.
So refresh to find this UA-cam chanel 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 your content is excepcional no just in the way of elegance as well in practice advice. thanks to share your point of view and give us the pleasure to admire a man well dressed. Now times is difficult if not impossible watch a real elegant man.
Another great video. I look forward to all of your wisdom in shoe and garment care as well as bespoke items to compliment a well made gentleman. If I may make a suggestion on a topic of a video? How to dress well in a more casual setting. Maybe with jeans and a polo paired with monks or loafers. Thanks!
I was watching the U.S. Senate hearings this past week, and noticed there was not a single pocket square to be seen among the gents. Perhaps they think it's too stylish, not properly focusing on the people's business (the same goes for both houses of Parliament in London). The suits and ties were elegant and understated, to be sure (thank God for charcoal and navy). But something seemed missing. We should send them this video. Show them how it's done, when appearance indicates exactly and immediately how one feels about oneself. Thanks, Kirby, first class as always. Best, Bobby
Jim Jordan during the disgraced now fired Strozk hearing wasn't even wearing a suit. His suit was hang on his chair. It's the substance we are looking at during the hearing.
Not sure about America but the British parliament is now just full of middle class, managerial types. Long gone are the days of well dress aristocrats who actually had a long term commitment instead of just trying to further their career through politics.
Agree completely. I did a TEDx talk "Do Your Clothes Fit" by Mark Logan. In the talk I tell stories of men who were treated differently on the rare occasions when they were dressed well. As well as a few funny encounters I have experienced due to my attire.
Hey Kirby can you please do a detailed video on ties? Also which ties go best with basic colored suits like charcoal, navy, black, browns etc Also some of the decent tie brands.
Love the style very classy .I just dont have a budget anywhere close to that working for a University.Did think of going to vietnam and buying a suit there at some point.
Kirby! Mention health too! Your skin & pheromones are so crucial when dealing with partners, both business and pleasure. I’d say feeling great is equal to looking great! And health is wealth ;£
being a well dressed gentleman is a full time job, so if you have anything going on in life you have outsource some of the work, like sending clothes to dry cleaning etc.. that costs money, so either you're earning enough or you have to go above your income bracket which will impede other aspects of your life
I m a trucker I try to look professional Even though 4 days out of 5 end of the day I'm dirty. I wear brown steel toe waterproof boots with a matching belt. Blue jeans and a plain T shirt. Usually florescent Yellow. Keeps the railroad happy.
Kirby, well done with your video, 8 Secrets To Being Well Dressed. I very much enjoyed it. I find fewer and fewer men taking the time to look good, distinguished and, feel good about themselves. If I may make a couple of suggestions: First, wearing a clean properly fitted undershirt will save your valued dress shirt from those unsightly underarm sweat marks and subsequent stains. It also keeps them from sliding out of your pants. Second, completely agree with the use of a fresh scented cologne; but, I never spray it on my clothes as it will eventually stain. A good cologne is formulated to react with your skin and body temperature, not your clothes. A light mist before getting dressed should do.Thank you again. Look forward to more of your great videos. Cheers
I Think that its inportant to say that you dont need a 2 piece to be the best bressed. You do need appropriate cloths that are clean and lookdeda after
Found my neckties moving too much when trying cases in the courtroom, I don't like tie clips. The solution was simple just slip the short end through the loop on the back of the front tie section. Next take a safety pin and pin the narrow piece to your shirt from the INSIDE thus hiding the pin and anchoring the tie. The tie stays in place w/o looking plastered to your chest...works nice every time.
Secrete 9: When I lost 16kg by walking friend's dog over Christmas break and New Year the enthusiasm to dress well and energy glowing out goes long way.
Kirby, what do you think about having a large cologne collection? Should a man have a ‘signature scent’ or is it better to rotates scents throughout the week?
You don't need a large collection, but definitely a collection. 6 to 8 fragrances are plenty for 90% of men and can cover signature scent, special event, date night and each season.
I agree a well fitted suit can be comfortable and certainly makes you feel good in the correct scenario. However, to say that it is a fact that a well fitted suit is THE most comfortable thing a man can wear is just not accurate and certainly not in every scenario. It was 75degF and sunny at my kids soccer game this morning. I opted for shorts and a t-shirt. You think you'd be more comfortable sweating your arse off in the hot sun in your suit? I doubt it. I don't care how good your suit fits. I'll take shorts and a t-shirt any day as being more comfortable.
We are definitely treated better when dressed well. I also feel better when I'm dressed well. Another great video.
Fully agree.

Best comment today.

I agree, we must take a good time to dress up and look good. Thank you Kirby for an awesome teaching channel, I adore you
I like classic style in dressing and grooming.
I love that he specifically mentions going for slightly fuller cuts, pleats and maybe even slightly fuller pants if you can go for suspenders. And he made that claim 4 years ago... He wasn't falling for the latest fad of suits that are too tight, with pants and sleaves that are cut way too short.

Sweet.
Incredibly underrated channel. You deserve a million subs Kirby!

@Ronan Sullivan It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
Such simple, great advice. Looking good and being well dressed doesn't mean spending a fortune. Dressing well is enjoyable, and people will indeed treat you better.
GOD bless you. Good information.
I'm glad that he cautioned towards keeping one's suit fit a little roomy as nowadays it is trendy to have suits that are slim fit and many men will end up wearing their suits too tight.
I'm really annoyed by the slim fit style, it just doesnt look good
I'll THIRD that!
Too many men running around, looking like they've stolen their son's suit... No, the "Angus Young Look" just ain't for me.
I've just discovered your channel and it's a joy. I have a friend who did a short apprenticeship at Anderson and Sheppard and made me a suit many years ago. So glad you mentioned well maintained and well polished shoes...whether they are old or new they MUST be polished - It is the first thing I look at!
Kirby appears always truly authentic. He convinced me of buying a better ironing board.
the key to being well dressed is apparently having shoulders narrower than your waist.
@@louiscyfer6944 Wear 10 boxer shorts if that is what you think that'll move you ahead.
@@styzoom i guess you didn't get it.
@@louiscyfer6944 Maybe, the video is over 2 years old. Thought your were slagging off Kirby.
@@styzoom he must have a special training program to keep his shoulders as narrow as possible.
Your comments towards the of the video, about being well dressed...are correct!!!
The sand suit with the blue tie is just a perfect fit Kirby!
That's a beautiful tie, works will with your jacket.
Great video! I do disagree with two things though: (1) new shirt every day is essential, and (2) slightly disagree that your back blade of a tie should be allowed to extend beyond the length of the front one.
Excellent video Kirby. I also think that Jonathan L makes an excellent point.
As a short person, sometimes having the back blade being too long is inevitable depending on the tie length. I don't see it as a big problem since it can just be tucked into the shirt placket. Shorter ties aren't always easy to find.
I was going to say the back hanging down is inevitable for some. Me, I have to buy extra long ties to do a double Windsor. Frustrating.
It depends: I myself do not sweat enough to soil a shirt in one go. I typically wear the same shirt more than once, before washing it.
@@magicalplaid You could always get your ties shortened if needed or just fold the back blade and hold it with a garment clip.
Listening to Kirby say "there's nothing wrong with the working man" made me smile.
I hope London has been treating you well. You’ve probably caught the last of the nice weather for this year, so great timing in that regard!
Awesome video, maybe my favorite one yet. I especially like how EMPHATICALLY you state that if a man isn't comfortable in his suit it doesn't fit and that a well fitted suit is the most comfortable thing a man can wear.

Agree.

Definition of tongue-in-cheek
: characterized by insincerity, irony, or whimsical exaggeration
I like your presentation. Precise, to the point and excellent delivery.
Thanks, that was a much needed topic, keeps me from veering off the tradition.
Kirby it is soo kind of you to present the well dressed man. I am not a male but I love to see a well dressed man. You look wonderful by the way.

Not much more to say.. nailed it with that one
Positive sideeffect of good clothes:
I have no problem to hold my weight, not wanting to throw away nice suits gives you discipline!
Great background videos to fall asleep to. Spending my life in flip flips and Guy Harvey t shirts in the florida keys, these are hilarious to me
EXCELLENT!! FLAWLESS DESCRIPTIONS...THANK YOU!!

It’s rare to see a well dressed man. Its a great pleasure to view a man who cares enough about himself to look impeccable.
