Agreed on everything. When you really begin to "dress to impress" on a regular basis, you almost find it to be a new lifestyle that you've embarked on. When I'm on location at various businesses, it's assumed by many that I'm the business owner. The employees have even used me (saying I'm their boss) as a good excuse to chase problem customers away, such as unwanted advances, etc. I've had job offers out of the blue, since it tends to reflect your level of capability. There are a majority of women around me since we work with retailers, and it never hurts to have a reputation as being handsome and well dressed. But I also make sure that folks know I'm down to earth. One thing you'll want to avoid, is anyone assuming that you're a snob. If or when it's appropriate, I make sure they understand that I do so enjoy a more classic, gentlemanly style. But it's also a good form of manners, 'cause I like to dress properly to be in THEIR company. Become the very best version of yourself guys, in all respects. It's so worth it.
@@TheChapsGuide as a young man I never understood this in fact I never thought about it but some years ago I had my road to Damascus moment and it was a shock. I'd been making so many mistakes and this captured me to be across the subject properly. Now I'm Australian which is far more informal than Europe or the UK. However, it's there under the surface waiting to be rediscovered. Thongs and a T shirts with a can of Fosters is not going to cut it, even in Australia. In fact I'd go further, Australia has that image of layback easy going informality but nothing could be further from the truth.
I would go as far as to suggest that investing in your appearance (clothes, fitness, and social skills) will benefit you far more than a University Degree ever could.
This video is absolutely correct. I can remember going into a swanky bar and had two young bar staff ask me for my tips on how to make it in life! I was dressed in a three piece suit I brought from a charity shop!!! The power of dressing well really is potent. A little effort will bring results. Great video sir. Subscribed.

This is true. When I was a professor, I dressed casually...as did most other professors... and even more so because field research was part of my work. When I moved to administration, my mentor insisted that I upgrade my wardrobe and overall self-care. I found people treating me like a completely different person. I've enjoyed new compliments, opportunities, and company quite different from anything in y previous lifestyle.
One needs to develop one's confidence. I once long time ago have seen an elderly man not far from Cambridge UK wearing trousers and sport jacket shirt and tie but somehow not in the best condition (some maybe sadly go through harsh period in life and cannot effort always news clothes) but he wore his attire with such confidence that it looked good and respectable.Really to be admired. Without confidence even a bespoke suit will not look as good as it should. And let us not start with hats and bow ties that requires the most confidence.
Very true, my good man. My mother says "if you aren't going to go out in your birthday suit, you might as well go out in a proper suit!". She told me when I was a boy that going to meet or receive someone properly dressed was the sign that you held them and yourself in high regard. Beautiful video.
Dressing well makes a huge difference in my life. It increases confidence, and when I walk into room I own that room. People respond with manners and respect, and colleagues seek my classic fashion advice in their own wardrobe. As far as women, though a big man dress and confidence make all the difference. I’ve never went lonely.
I think dressing well, especially in this 'dress down' era is akin to a bona fida super-power. In some respects, the lack of well dressed men actually serves to the advantage of us chaps.
Sorry this video did not resonate with your own sensibilities, but as this is a gentleman's lifestyle channel, we are naturally going to discuss the time honoured fundamentals of mens style, such as dressing well and accompanying accessories. If this is not to your taste, perhaps another channel may be more to your taste.
@@happydancer3025 I said no such thing regarding those who dress in t-shirts and jeans, nor do I see how anyone could draw that conclusion from my statement. I think jeans, t-shirts, ball caps and sneakers have their place. I simply echoed Ash on the affect of dressing well has on others, and their is a marked difference. If you think how you dress and present yourself isn't a major factor in the impression you make, then you are fooling yourself. This sounds like your own reflected insecurities. No where did I say I wouldn't spend time with someone in trainers. That's from your own insecure head. I dress well because it makes me feel good, and it does have a notable social effect. If you want to dress down that's your business, but as Ash said this is a channel for well-dressed men, so what exactly do you expect here? As far as my life: I found time to get two Ivy League degrees, raise two children, launch a successful career and still found time to learn how to dress myself in a gentleman's manner. It can be done. As far as women are concerned, Ive never had a problem in that area. I'm glad I repulse you 'madam', as I'd have no interest in someone with such low self-esteem, chips of insecurity on their shoulder, and such a fragile little ego. Its your bad attitude and atrocious manners that makes you ugly, not your jeans and trainers. The best fashion in the world cant help you with that.
@@Mentis-de it's the double standards my friend. whenever they stare at me I just shake my head as a sign of utter disapproval and don't give any further attention. just wear what you want and screw these people.
This is pretty spot on! I love wearing a three-piece suit and the way I get treated is very different to how I'm treated otherwise - like when I'm wearing my biker jacket! ;) But whilst it's not right, people do still judge a book by its cover so for a gent, it's important to understand this and know you can use it to your advantage. I've received preferential treatment on trains, in shops, got seats in a restaurant whilst others have been turned away and generally treated with more courtesy. Great vid.
I agree, dressing well is not pompous or eccentric, but a sign that you value your appearance. Is it therefore surprising that others respond accordingly. Thanks for sharing.
I agree on many points. First, good clothing of a timeless style is an investment, one that pays back in the depth of time and money. Back in the late 1970s a book called DRESS FOR SUCCESS came out, and I bought a three-piece suit of conservative cut for what was a good amount of money. I wore that suit for nearly 22 years before I essentially wore it out. My shirts came from THE CUSTOM SHOP here in the USA, and while they cost about five times a cheap shirt, they wore like iron, and showed a great deal more style as they were of a serious design. Very cost-effective. And beautifully tailored, perfect fit, great attention to detail. As for other pieces, I have found shoes, one pair black-and-white wingtips, for example, for $6 in my size, fit perfect. Within the last two years I have purchased three pair of shoes in black, brown, oxblood in VERY expensive style, for $6 each at a local resale/charity shop. I confess I had used my 30% seniors discount...but still...$6 each? Really? I have found very nice shirts for $5, fresh from a professional laundering, still on the hangers. THESE ARE OUT THERE. Two years ago I outfitted a friend who got a job as a Cadillac salesman, equipping him with three tweed jackets, two silk shirts, a nice selection of ties and four pair pleated pants for less than $80...and tailoring cost him less than $30 to get the pants and one jacket hemmed. HAUNT resale shops. CRUISE charity shops. FORAGE yard and estate sales. PUT UP "WANTED" cards in stores that allow such things....if you don't ask, you'll never know what you can find. I have even found men's clothing that was virtually free, as the woman selling them said she wanted to see someone she met wearing her husband's clothes, rather than see them go in some anonymous church jumble. BEST OF LUCK!
I utterly agree with your clothing ideology. I cannot afford many nice pieces for the wardrobe, but I aspire to wearing quality ites - the answer is to seek out the best items at prices that I can afford. By way of an example, I own about 10 shirts made by Turnbull & Asser (probably the best shirtmaker in the world). All these shirts have been sourced pre-owned from ebay and many have been in 'as new' condition. Never compromise, simply find another way to achieve your goals!!
I’ve made everyone’s day, that a well dress person is in the environment. You set the bar, and everybody who is unsure of themselves, are taking notes. Whether it be, grooming, clothes selection, or mannerisms. The compliment on your colognes, your choice of fabric, not to mention, your intricate details, are never ending. Even bosses stumbled on their own words, because they can’t help but be polite and subdued, in addressing the nature of the work place.
I am a woman and I watched your video for the first time and I greatly appreciate the way you present yourself, and the way you speak!!! I am so annoyed the way people look shabby all the time Be blessed Sir
Great video sir. My mother is 91 years old and since I was a child she used to say the same words. The world respects who dresses well. She uses to say that we know a man by his shoes. 🇧🇷🇬🇧🍀
I just discovered this channel and I'm loving the content that you're providing. I really appreciate the time and effort that you're putting into these videos.
Great video, always wore quality 3 piece suits when I worked for the bank with Florsheim shoes. I’m retired now so I don’t wear 3 piece suits anymore but I still like to look well dressed even if I’m just going for a walk.
Thanks for posting your Chap's Classic Men's Sartorial Channel.👞👔 People don't like to admit it, but your judged on your appearance essentially. If a Man looks his best when he's well dressed, why doesn't he want to do it everyday? Of course if your doing work or a project at home where you may get dirty or soiled, spending time with family or friends in the backyard etc; being casual is more warranted; however after that, it's time to dress better to be at your best. Dressing well doesn't have to be just for special occasions. After all, Life, is a Special Occasion!✨🎇👞👔 Cheers!😊👍
I randomly find your video which I find very interesting So, I m a 57 Senegalese ( West Africa ) and I like to dress well ever since I can remember. It definitely boost self esteem and confidence and attract politeness, respect like you said Thx so much and regards
Hey, loved your video. But to me, I personally think having a pair of shined shoes is almost just as important as wearing a suit if not more. I've saw many people who wear suits at weddings, or just as I walk across city centre. Yes they look good, but their shoes are often unpolished or in some cases dirty. This rule when applies to people who wear trainers, most People who do wear trainers don't bother to clean to them properly. The best way I distinguish someone who is well dressed to someone who "believes" they are well dressed is either A. They have shined shoes, B. The trainer's they wear are clean to the point they almost look brand new. Most people underestimate how cleaning trainers properly rather than just using a wet rag to clean them. Really does bring life back into the trainer's.
I fully agree - shoes are the foundation of a great wardrobe and should be the start point for any outfit. I'm a firm advocate of the best possible shine (mirror) on one's shoes and you will rarely find me without a great shine on my footwear.
I have just received a compliment from my student’s father. He told me that I was a well-dressed man. I gracefully received the compliment and told him that he was looking sharp as well. He was dressed in a navy blue shirt and dark trousers. He also told me that he had heard from his daughter how I place a significant amount of importance on my shoes. I was wearing a smart pair of made-to-order burgundy boots. It’s satisfying to hear compliments like these and it gave me a boost of confidence - not that I lacked it - and made my day more pleasant.
I am woman who is changing my entire wardrobe from fast fashion to classic look. I am glad I found your channel. So inspiring to spend money on clothing that will last me forever! It hurts to spend this money though🥹
Went out for drinks dressed to the nines with ny wife yesterday. Black worsted wool, white cotton shirt with an herringbone weave, a burgundy/plum pattern tie, a white pocket square in a presidential fold and black cap toe oxfords close to a mirror shine and she wore a sleek black dress that suits her so well. The service was great and we didn't go unnoticed. 😂
I have started to sink my feet into classical menswear, with only a golden mechanical wristwatch and a newly bought flat panel cap as my first attempts. With time and more pounds in my wallet, I am certain there is a distinctive look that awaits me in the journey of becoming a chap. Thank you, sire, for letting us know that it never hurts to dress sharp.
I’ve recently lost a significant amount of weight & nothing fits anymore. Now that I’m forced to shop for new gear, I’ve had a request by a female family member to take her with me when I go clothes shopping. Funny thing is, I really do want to dress more elegantly now that I can wear “slim fitted” clothes & find my size much more easily. Trying to follow after your style will be trickier here in Florida, but I’ve decided to embrace my inner “Chap”. Thank you for the encouragement & all that you do for us. Bless you Sir!
I watch channels like this because it is a world above mine. However, there is much to learn at a blue collar level. I wear short sleeve polo shirts which makes me look more mature than the T-shirt wearers at work even at the same age. What is more interesting to me during those times when I do wear a nice dress shirt, dress shoes, and the like...is that it is I who feel like I need to act better and treat others better in order to match my higher style.
Recently a British Gent gave a presentation, after wards he was gifted some flowers. He wasn't expecting the flowers! So it is true, when one dresses well, good things do happen!
you can dress well and casual I do love the Selvedge jeans, classic t shirts (such as Sunspel) and heritage boots As with those lads, you should never judge a book by it cover
I regularly get told how smart/ dapper I look, I’m 64 , TBH all you need to look smart and well dressed in 🏴is a decent pair of clean shoes and a sports jacket 😮
I think by being well dressed we can overcome a lot of shortcomings we are born with whereas a carelessly dressed man is at times underestimated despite his natural blessings...Even if you are average you can enhance your appearance by being tastefully dressed....
Last week I was running some errands and decided, why not dress up a bit? My thought was "if I'm in the street, that's sufficient reason to put on my new linen trousers and sports jacket. People would look at me almost astonished, cars would gave way so I could cross the street, they would open the door for me... And all because I decided to look great.
Good sir, you are appreciated. Kind of like the father I wish I had...Eloquent, knowledgable and stately... Keep up the good work Dapper Chap!!! God bless.
I tend to stick to henleys, short sleeve sweatshirts, or polos with jeans or chinos and a pair of brown suede chelsea boots for my going grocery shopping look/going out casually look in the summer. In the winter I like shawl collar sweaters and cardigans. You have inspired me to possibly throw on a blazer every once in a while! I used to dress fancier before I was married, but that fell to the wayside, as alas I gained too much muscle (good problem) and none of those clothes fit anymore. I used to tend towards pants or denim with a button down shirt and a vest and tie.
Ash, couldn't agree more with your video today I've experienced some of the same things you brought up. I've also noticed that a lot of times by Leading by example that it also encourages other people to start dressing a little nicer. It always vexes me to see people coming in our shop wearing pajama pants and flip-flops in public. It's almost like they have put out absolutely no effort and it's almost like they've just given up. I have found that it doesn't take that much effort and it does make you feel very good to look nice and get compliments. Thanks for the good work keep it up. Cheers Ron
It is always disheartening to encounter people wearing their nightwear in the supermarket at 4pm on a Tuesday, it does make me wonder about the future of the human race, but dressing well is as much about personal confidence as it is about the way you are perceived by others. I certainly know that a shirt and tie always lifts my self esteem...... a cheap boost in anyone's terms.
@@ronaldpoppe3774 I concur - I have (probably - difficult to get confirmed during lockdown) Plantar fasciitis and find that, contrary to online advice, a decent pair of traditional leather shoes or boots helps keep me from hobbling in the evenings.
Since starting out my improved dressing I have received many compliments even from those, who like you my police nose says are dodgy. I used to work in an office many year's ago, shudder! and a simple tie certainly lifted you up from the open necked shirts. Anyway another fine video although I didn't agree with everything you said. Keep up the excellent work
One piece of advice my father gave me that always paid of was, dress elegant when you travel. When travelling in South America or Asia especially, your more likely to get stopped for inspections if you look like a scrappy tourists, and your more likely to attract the attention of unsavoury people, looking for tourists to scam.
On the Nike's: I've never understood why people spend actual money on clothes that don't have any potential to benefit them. For people whose relationship appeal is more transient (few years), maybe it makes sense for novelty reasons, but for most men, I just don't see justification.
Amen. I've found in many respects that when we embark on dressing sharper, we usually have the ability to dress better for the same amount of money. If you consider what most pay for name brand sneakers, or Jean's, athletic jerseys, etc. Like yourself, I've enjoyed the results of "improved presentation". To me, there's no other way to fly.
I really appreciated the story about the unexpected compliment. The fellow might even be inspired by you, and who knows? In a few years he may have adopted classic menswear himself - once he’s mustered the courage!
I remember walking down my street, dressed up to go into town and two young 'dudes' were walking towards me. As I passed them by, I heard one say to the other, 'Old school', which made me gently smile with amusement. Also, I remember being told, a long time ago, that a well-dressed man/chap, should always carry something, like perhaps a furled umbrella or walking stick, or even an overcoat. And if you needed to put your coat on, to carry your leather gloves or perhaps wear one and carry the other in your gloved hand.😊 I do this anyway. What do you think?
Hello my good man. Love the overcoat, very interesting look. The suit is great, it reminded me of the Great Gatsby, beautiful. Could you do a video on buying and wearing jewelry. I have been out with my manager and I’ve been thought of as the boss. By the way I just bought the classic Aramis cologne the one in the brown box. I know you’ve spoken about it in one of your videos. Great video. Thank you keep up the work.
You are right Sir, I had an experience like you have described with my chief. He was dress casual and I was dress with tie and people in front of us talked to me instead of him. I felt me in difficult for him. Thank you for your interesting work. Have a nice day!
Nice video! I've been putting effort into dressing nice for two years now, with my outfits truly being complete for half a year. I notice almost all benefits you listed and one more: people gravitate toward you when group tasks are announced. If you take the time to dress well in the morning, there's a good chance you also take the time to do the project well. However, I noticed a downside to dressing nice too: It creates a bit of a barrier between you and other people. I noticed people I don't know take me very seriously and don't joke with me a lot. They don't swear and they don't tend to involve me in talks about parties and whatnot. Now this isn't necessarily a problem, as I don't enjoy these things anyway, but sometimes I feel a bit left out because of it. I like to wear muted colours, maybe that has something to do with it as well. I'm not sure if this makes sense, maybe I'm just clinging to the old me. I'm 23
Another great video there, Ash. My tailor in Bangkok has a tag line: "Dress for Success" and you are both quite right. Raja's Fashions, btw. Been using them for 34 years now. He can be a little too honest if I gain weight. I queried the cut of a suit jacket once and he said "Gavin, I'm a tailor, not a magician". 😂
The best thing about dressing well as I've experienced so far is that it changes your perspective towards the world (around you) and of the world towards you, elevates your self esteem and enhances your overall quality of life.
It’s weird seeing people dress in slacks and attire equivalent to pajamas. I’ve opted for wearing vests a lot more often and I do wear a few flat caps, some from lock/co. My color preference is also streamlined to black. It’s helped me feel more confident. Also thanks for all of the great content. Love the channel.
I work a blue collar job all week long. I can only dress up on the weekends. Still just a button down shirt and a nice sports coat makes a huge difference when out and about running errands. Everyone shows more respect and more attention to me. On Sunday when I walk into the gym after church the heads turn and it's not a bad thing to have half the gym(the girls) looking at you because your dressed very smartly and it's not something they normally see.
My wife and I checked into a hotel a few years ago. The clerk asked me what the “occasion” was. Off the top of my head I said that it was our wedding anniversary …… we got a free upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi in it!
Got called a sir from a retail assistant (a lady) who was older then me in John Lewis today lol. I was wearing a blazer and pocket square type of outfit.
Hi, Sir! I want to thank you for this amazing video! this one motivated personality and i feel better now! keep going and I wish you success in your work. I am 20 years old and I really like the so-called good dressing, of course, the material side is also excessively involved in a particular issue, but it is not necessary to wear a branded jacket or pants.
Very uplifting advise. I difinetly agree with dressing well increase ones self appreciation and feeling good. The 3 piece suit you're wearing in this clip is beautiful, especially under the daylight. Could you in future clips show a full body shots? Even just for a few seconds. This could allow us, chaps starting their journey to dress amicably, to get ideas and tips on what goes well together. Thanks in advance.
Never get a second chance....to make a first impression. My father was a executive for IBM Corp. Headquartered in NYC. as a young man I asked him what do you look for when hiring new people? He said all the people that come to me are very intelligent great academics...but I look for someone who will get along as a team and works well with others. Many intelligent people are loners and that isn't the best when it comes to a work force and people with new ideas. Getting on with each other for 8 hrs a day is very important.
I know I'm very late into this video, but do you ever think that formal clothing will ever make a comeback? personally, I hope so, after all, casual clothing for everyday wear has been around for 50 or 40 years already. I think is only a matter of time that people get bored and sick of their everyday clothing.
There’s a story told by Stephen fry in his autobiography which deals with what Ash is saying in the opposite way. When Stephen was in the Gracho gentleman’s club, a man dressed in ragged rough clothes, sporting a rough beard and not looking too well kept walked into the main entrance. The receptionist didn’t know how to get rid of him, as he clearly looked like he didn’t belong there, so rushed off the get the managers. The manager greets the man with a friendly “hello Mr Pacino, researching a role for another film?”. I guess dressing the part gets treated the part, either way.
You liked my Dunhill shop monopoly experience. I have another I thought you would like. 42 years ago I lived in London and worked as a sales rep for Carreras Rothmans. We sold Dunhill brand cigarettes. We were given 10,000 cigarettes a month as samples. I needed a lighter. I was directed to the Dunhill Shop in central London. This is where I saw the Monopoly sets. I chose a rectangular (50mm high x 12mm wide) 18 carat gold, flip top lighter, with red onyx insert panels on either side. Very nice. Rothmans we’re paying the bill, so that suited me fine. However. I wanted this engraved with my name. I had to pay for this. The assistant said. £93 engraving sir. I replied ..no...I can have this done for around £25 at a jewelry store. He replied “ sir...here we engrave...there they scratch”. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Was at a quality lounge last night with a 3- piece jazz band. It was awful to see people coming in wearing t-shirts and scruffy pants. Or very casually dressed. Taking selfies like they were going out of style. This lounge was ahead of its time in an area that is slowly being gentrified.
I love dressing well. Got an upcoming job interview. Hopefully will get it. Im turning up in a navy blue chalkstriped suit as a 3 piece. Silk cufflinks that are red. Red Grenadine tie, black wholecut leather dress shoes oxford style, white linen pocket square, dior elixir cologne, messenger bag (dont have attache case yet), black gloves providing its cold. fresh mints, slit back style of hair. I should get the job alongside with being overprepared for the job. And im muscular too. Oh and my sports watch too. And to be shaved before the interview too. I bliming hopw i get the job. I think I stand out due to being quitw muscular too. And the fact the clothes are fairly well tailored to my shape. My shoes were very recently polished too. Oh and will wear a winchester (contrast collar and cuff) shirt with subtle blue detail stripes, but primarily pale pink stripes. I steamed my garments and removed any dandruff My shoes are goodyear welted too and from Barkers. Leather bottom soles for that elegant sound. No belt since trousers have side buckles. Its literally whay id call a 10/10 outfit. The suit was a luxury suit from Charles Tyrwhit. Im aware theres better brands out there that i couls get 2nd hand. But Regardless of that no one even at my place of work even tries to dress so well. Just standard boring navy suits. and just plain white or blue shirts.

My apologies
@@bigprettyman3795 Yep, just proved my point further. Well done you.
Terrific advice Ash. I must say that your burgundy overcoat is truly outstanding. Thank you for a very well presented and insightful video.
Glad it was helpful!

@@Mentis-de it's the double standards my friend. whenever they stare at me I just shake my head as a sign of utter disapproval and don't give any further attention.

I am so annoyed the way people look shabby all the time
Be blessed Sir
Great video sir. My mother is 91 years old and since I was a child she used to say the same words. The world respects who dresses well. She uses to say that we know a man by his shoes. 🇧🇷🇬🇧🍀
I just discovered this channel and I'm loving the content that you're providing. I really appreciate the time and effort that you're putting into these videos.
Glad you enjoy it!
I have been complimented many times, restaurants, elevators, parking in lot ,clients ,supermarket , doctors office
This reflects and articulates a lot of my own experiences when I have dressed smartly - thanks.
After all, Life,
is a Special Occasion!✨🎇👞👔
Cheers!😊👍
I randomly find your video which I find very interesting
So, I m a 57 Senegalese ( West Africa ) and I like to dress well ever since I can remember.
It definitely boost self esteem and confidence and attract politeness, respect like you said
Thx so much and regards
My pleasure, I am delighted that you have enjoyed the videos so far. Best regards
Couldn’t agree more
I have just received a compliment from my student’s father.
It reminds us that our sartorial efforts do not go unnoticed. That’s all the encouragement one needs.
I am woman who is changing my entire wardrobe from fast fashion to classic look. I am glad I found your channel. So inspiring to spend money on clothing that will last me forever! It hurts to spend this money though🥹
Go for it you only live once and it will make you feel happy 😊
View it like as an investment.
Keep going. That’s an excellent start.
I certainly find, "good things happen when I dress well".
People have asked if I'm the store manager, a pastor, etc
I recently purchased some New Loake 1880 tan full brogues . I can confirm I felt uplifted and more confident and sexy! Ash is on the money. Thank you1
Lovely shoes!
I find people act differently when im dressed smart its worth the effort
Very well said sir. I absolutely agree.
Great video and I love that jacket and waistcoat! You wear it well.
ALL excellent suggestions. I agree - when I am dressed well My day goes well or Great.
I am considering brining back my style and dressing up more often.
Good sir, you are appreciated. Kind of like the father I wish I had...Eloquent, knowledgable and stately... Keep up the good work Dapper Chap!!! God bless.
I appreciate that! Pleased to assist.
@@TheChapsGuide yes I agree and as far as the Nike trainers versus good shoes I find that the shoes are much more comfortable
Keep up the excellent work
Stout advice as always. Great to hear a plane droning overhead, the world is beginning to stir.
One piece of advice my father gave me that always paid of was, dress elegant when you travel. When travelling in South America or Asia especially, your more likely to get stopped for inspections if you look like a scrappy tourists, and your more likely to attract the attention of unsavoury people, looking for tourists to scam.
Dress like ur a king u will be treated like one
I've just discovered this channel. Such a refreshing take on men's style. Fantastic. Very well done Sir!
On the Nike's: I've never understood why people spend actual money on clothes that don't have any potential to benefit them. For people whose relationship appeal is more transient (few years), maybe it makes sense for novelty reasons, but for most men, I just don't see justification.
Sage advice indeed - invest in a good pair of leather shoes and your money is safe for a few decades.
Sir, you are very right. I have experienced it a number of times myself!
I really appreciated the story about the unexpected compliment. The fellow might even be inspired by you, and who knows? In a few years he may have adopted classic menswear himself - once he’s mustered the courage!
Definitely an increase in "sir" haha.
Great advice. Things like these always need to be heard more.
I'm just starting to do some research on jewelry for chaps. Coming in the future. Keep looking sharp sir - it never goes unnoticed!!
You are right Sir, I had an experience like you have described with my chief. He was dress casual and I was dress with tie and people in front of us talked to me instead of him. I felt me in difficult for him. Thank you for your interesting work. Have a nice day!
Thanks for sharing
Hopefully that day you gave your chief a life-lesson.
A good tailor is someone, with whom you can have such honest conversations.
@@TheChapsGuide True, but that was a little brutal in the open forum of his shop.
The best thing about dressing well as I've experienced so far is that it changes your perspective towards the world (around you) and of the world towards you, elevates your self esteem and enhances your overall quality of life.
You have nailed it sir. The world will now unfold before you in a way that only us well dressed men understand!

Very well said and accurate according to my own experience.
Entertaining video! 😎
Dressing Well is one of the top 3 keys in life.
You are one well dressed man. It’s rare these days to see men who care about being classy.
My wife and I checked into a hotel a few years ago. The clerk asked me what the “occasion” was. Off the top of my head I said that it was our wedding anniversary …… we got a free upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi in it!
Amazing information! Appreciate the detail and frankness as it pertains to being a well dressed chap!

It's absolutely crazy when solo-dining out somewhere nicer. Dress half decently and the wait staff is all over you to treat you well.
Amazing overcoat mr. Chap.
Its a lovely coat - I got it for £50 in a post Christmas sale in a major department store about 6-years ago. It has been a stalwart friend ever since.

I found out this channel thanks to my English teacher. I sucribed as I think there is a great sense of 'man Englishness'.
Welcome!
He's a Welshman from South Wales. I think you mean Britishness....
Great channel such a pleasure to take in your style advice.

I know I'm very late into this video, but do you ever think that formal clothing will ever make a comeback? personally, I hope so, after all, casual clothing for everyday wear has been around for 50 or 40 years already. I think is only a matter of time that people get bored and sick of their everyday clothing.
Another stellar video Ash
There’s a story told by Stephen fry in his autobiography which deals with what Ash is saying in the opposite way. When Stephen was in the Gracho gentleman’s club, a man dressed in ragged rough clothes, sporting a rough beard and not looking too well kept walked into the main entrance. The receptionist didn’t know how to get rid of him, as he clearly looked like he didn’t belong there, so rushed off the get the managers. The manager greets the man with a friendly “hello Mr Pacino, researching a role for another film?”. I guess dressing the part gets treated the part, either way.
Excellent analysis
What a great story and a good example of the value of paying for quality opposed to going cheap in life (if one can afford the option, of course)

I steamed my garments and removed any dandruff
My shoes are goodyear welted too and from Barkers.
