- My most asked question is: where can I buy your sewing desk? While you can't buy it in store; I am showing how we made it and all the parts. My DIY custom sewing desk from a dining table castoff is the perfect sewing station that allows me to have good posture and sew for hours.
That is a great table. Your father in law did a great job.
Thanks! He really did. We make a good team because I can draw it and design it and he can build it.
What a loving father in law. So lucky. His son must take after him too😊
Your Father-in-Law does beautiful work. I love the color of the tabletop. So Nice that you can add a leaf for extra sewing room. Thanks for Sharing!
Thanks Kathy! He is super talented. The color is just the wood color (for me) and I love that It matches my cutting table too.
This is such a great concept. From the moment I saw the thumbnail I knew it was a modified dining table. Great great great comcept
You are good! Thanks so much.
Very nice. You and your father-in-law are so clever. Great job.
Thank you so much for the kind words.
I'm on the hunt for a table to do this as my sewing room is just about finished being remolded! This is my final step lol. Hopefully mine turns out half as beautiful as yours!!
You got this! I have a detailed tutorial with progress and before pics on my blog as well.
Great job making the table, but you are so fortunate to have such a beautiful sewing space.
Thank you! I absolutely thank God all the time because this is definitely a dream space.
Very Clever, your Grandpa did a great job. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! Sorry for the delayed response. Baby number five came and its been busy
What a fantastic idea! So glad I found this.

Oh yay! Glad I can help. Hope you love it.
Nice job! I'm looking at this to get ideas how to make something similar for my wife. Kudos to your father-in-law!
Go for it!
This is so great, I love it.
Thank you so much!
That is amazing!
Thank you for sharing this information! I didn't realize that you had or still had the option for the table leaf! Great ideas, thank you! I am presently using a dining table, as well, however I think I may be having the same issue with the shoulders! Love your space!
You are so welcome! Thanks for your kind words. It has been a game changer with my shoulders. No tensing at all now.
Your Father In Law Is A Blackbelt and Great Job Sanding, Staining And Sealing, 👍🏾.
I’m going to have to “borrow” some ideas from you, thx in advance, 👊🏾🇳🇬🇺🇸
Thank you so much! He is really quite skilled. I love that i come up with ideas and he can just build. I shared a video on the raised beds he built and they look amazing!
Beautiful! Thank you for the info.
You are so welcome!
Excellent craftsmanship on both your parts. Great table. I just subscribed.
awww thanks so much! I have lots of ideas to make this space even better including a total fabric reorganization so stay tuned!
Great idea ❤️
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Thank you for your video Andrea. Your father in law does beautiful work. After watching your video it inspired me to do the same with a small drop leaf Sauder sewing table. Granted, it is nothing like yours but it’ll do the job. I have a very small sewing/office room.
Congratulations for your idea and To your Father in law. Thank you so much sharing with us.
Love it!
Thanks!!
❤Great video I've been looking at alternative ideas to buying the extremely expentive sewing tables online and creating the flush top sewing area. This video is the perfect solution. One question. What is the knee lift used for? Thanks for the best idea ever. Your sewing table turned out beautifully.
Excellent!!!!!! I may have to change my mind again about my sewing table. I need something that will not shake and vibrate when my machine is running. I'm excited again, and it wont be as expensive as I originally thought.
You can totally do this! I found having the knee lifter adds even more stability and limits vibrations as well.
What a great idea! Would be awesome to see a video of how it was made. Thanks for sharing 🥰
We made this before I had a youtube channel so in this video I hoped to see how it was made. I did however, document it on my website homewithandreasims.com
Is there any chance that your father-in-law could come and do this for me, please? I don't live a distance from you, I would pay him, plus make him a nice cup of tea. I'm Gilda from England 😂. Excellent workmanship.
@@homewithandreasims4335Hi, I went to your website and subscribed and could not find the sewing table blog. 😞
Lucky daughter in law!
Fantastic table! I may have my husband make one for me 🤔 btw, I have a box almost identical to yours 😊
Wow! What a great idea. My dining table looks almost like yours. Mine also comes with a leaf which we are not even using. I would love to use my table for my machine. As you said, it is VERY HEAVY! I don't think I can get that upstairs. I would have to relocate my sewing room to my dining room. hmmm! I would feel terrible if I changed tables. My husband made me a sewing table (farm like look to it.). He did work really hard on it. I really don't think I should part with it.
That is a tough decision! Maybe repurpose your husband's table to a pressing station? We had to take apart the table for our move because it is so heavy which made it more manageable but still a task to get up and down stairs.
That is craftsman ship on both your parts. Great table. I thought oh it matches her dining table (some people sew in their dining room). But what are those decorative things on the opposite side. Drawers! Drooling might start. 🙄🙂
haha! Thanks. It was my intention to create a cohesive room from the start so I have been so selective in my choices. It is definitely a dream space for me.
How do you change bobbin if it’s a front loader? And what if cables attach too low at side? Any ideas?
Looks great! We are just starting to look for a used table to do this with. Just wondering how you use the free arm though.
Hello, sorry for the delay! I almost never use it so it has not been a problem. But I can remove the sewing machine to use it.
@homewithandreasims4335 Thanks. We found a great table to do this with and my hubby finished it today! I can't wait to use it.
Looks great BUT how do you use your free arm??
Hi Sorry for the delay! I usually dont use it since I just quilt. But I can remove the sewing machine if I ever needed it.
How do you access your on off switch?
I have the exact table for my sewing machine table. My husband fit a piece of acrylic around my machine and cut it to fit the table. He also moved a bracket under the table. I can also add my leaf if I need. Love, love, love my table.
Oh cool! So the acrylic piece is also covering the table top? Does this help protect the wood. It is such a great size table right?
@@homewithandreasims4335 No the acrylic does not cover the table top. It is a rectangle piece of acrylic, sitting down in the table, then it’s cut to the shape of my machine like an extension table for a sewing machine, but sitting down in the table. If I change machines I will just need to get a new piece of acrylic and cut it to fit the machine.
What happens when you have to get another sewing machine? I want to do this on my butcher block countertop but I’m scared of the finality! 😱😍
I just got this 3 years ago so I don't anticipate on needing another. I also think if I ever wanted to upgrade that I can always cut the hole larger. I would say it is only final if you ever wanted to go smaller.
I love the idea of doing this, but then do you have to pull the whole machine out every time you need to change your bobbin?
Hi Sarah, My machine is a top loading bobbin so I dont have to do that. If you did this with a bottom loading -then yes. It is one of the reasons I chose top loading.
what are the dimensions on your table? Joel in Florida
