Andy is the man!!!! Chicken pickin is one of the coolest styles to learn. Most people don't realize how difficult country guitar really is. It looks easy because it is such an efficient way to play.It looks like you aren't doing much. Economy of motion. This is such a great tool to have in your arsenal. I encourage everyone to learn country licks no matter what style you play. It will humble you for sure but once you get down the basic licks and patterns you will be unstoppable. It's almost percussive the way you roll over and hit the strings and it requires really staying in the pocket but it is a really fun avenue to go down as a guitar player. Thanks for this great lesson.

I love adding chicken picking to blues based classic rock and metal style solos in songs, but I do it more like Eddie Van Halen does. But what I really wanna know is... why is Ace playing a freakin' tuba? Lmfao.

My big pet peeve with vids like this is when they spend more time talking about the notes they played when the notes they played don't matter. With this style 99% of what matters is what youre doing with your picking hand. Hard to watch stuff like this and not get irritated.

Back in the day 11s were light gauge. Fender staggered pole pieces, and Gibson lightning bar bridges are all set for wound G strings. Thank you Ernie Ball! I am using Carvin T Bolt hard tails for this style music, and a Tele American Deluxe 3 pick up, or for special occasions I will dig out an old 62 Tele, or a Broadcaster that still has the Broadcaster sticker on it. They were all merely used guitars when I got them, so I am far from rich! Happy 50th Ernie Ball!

Awesome brother!!!Well said.I've been playing for 30 years and consider myself a well rounded player but damn these country guys will really hand you your ass. It's a style i never really paid attention to until recently. When i get into a style i really get into it.I feel like im starting all over with this style, and thats a good thing.Makes me miss me tele though.Thank god im into P90 guitars.A good P90 will get the tone also IMO.Keep on pickin brothers.Be open to all styles people.

@Matt Beeman When I called Johnny Hilland the best i somewhat misspoke. I wouldn't say anyone is the best. Nashville has great pickers! About the time you think you've seen the best...just go around the corner to the next bar or recording session. Brent is great but not the best anymore.

Great lesson. Never noticed, but the muted notes are like a rhythm keeper. Also notes can be muted and the exact note could differ. Often the rhythm guitar are hitting those notes. Kind of a flavor experience.

The guy did not play a thing, but he had an energy+presence, he just wrote things out., never saw him again. , My point, hes not the most famous, he did not become usc faculty which depends more on politics than who is the better player, but i got a sense that he could blow most players into the weeds, His analysis of Randy Roades solos was most interesting to me. He highlighted how well RR new his modes+exactly how to use them, Its unnerving to me that he claimed that i was playing steve morse wrong, why? #1 the guy that eventually became chairman of guitar at usc said i was playing it correctly #2 my teacher back home who was a monster said i was playing it right to, I am an average player at best but i will wonder for the rest of my life who had cruise missle right, can't find any live performances of morse playing it so i guess ill never know, ROC ON BRO
