    Thank you for making this. I’ve used Magic Lantern for over 10 years to teach film and photography to high school students in low income inner city schools across the United States. The software made it possible for me to afford the cameras I would put in their hands and allow them film their own short movies, documentary projects, and fun videos. I wouldn’t have been able to do this if I had to buy all cinema cameras. Now I know the history and story of the people who’ve helped me save lives. I sincerely appreciate all of you.

      @@Altcine thank you King. I sincerely appreciate your thoughtfulness and positivity. Film saved my life. Filming opened doors that gave me exposure to a world I never knew existed. It’s only right to share something so powerful, when I know exactly what it did in my life.
      We have programs in over a dozen cities across the country. In total we have nearly half a million youth in programs. We have basketball leagues, dance groups, and other social activities. We have entrepreneurial programs. We have behavioral and soft skills training programs. We have arts based programs, like what we’re discussing.
      Our youth need and deserve so much more than what they’re getting daily. The same way you share priceless knowledge, it’s all of our jobs to make the world a little more accessible for youth we know are struggling to find their way in the world.
      So thank you as well. I sincerely appreciate the content you put out. Your videos and content matters. Keep walking in your purpose my Brother!

      @@Makingthetransition wow brother! I am totally speechless! That's so many programmes you have going and it awesome. I honestly wish I could be more hands on...UA-cam is great but being hands on and especially with the energy of the youth must be great.
      I totally hear you about it saving your life and opening doors....I think we'd have a lot of stories to share with eachother 🙌🏾
      Thank you brother and hopefully one day we can talk about this more. I'm setting up a live stream so I can have guests on the channel that are doing great things and would love to chat with you.

      @@Altcine First, thank you. I sincerely appreciate your positivity. I give all the glory to God for everything I’m doing right now. This really is all Him and His doing. I would still be in the streets and hurting people by doing what I thought I had to do to make it, if God didn’t pull me out of the streets and show me something different then give me the chance to change my life.
      You are simply amazing as well. You may not be able to see it, because you’re living your life, so you can’t see yourself how we do. You are changing lives. You are using your life to be the example a lot of people need. You are also sharing priceless knowledge to spark other people’s flame. You are transforming and changing lives.
      I completely agree with you about the difference when you’re connected to youth directly. You’re right, youth give you a special type of energy. You need that in your life and to feed your energy. Youth give us back so much more than we give them, most of us just don’t know that.
      You’re in London aren’t you? I’m planning a trip that way. Let’s have dinner or connect. I’m in Atlanta, which is a place you need to have a foundation in because of the resources here for what you do. We have the fasting growing film industry in the United States, and it’s Black run and operated. You would thrive here.
      Honestly, I would come out to meet you wherever you are. You could easily help me change more youth people’s life. Your story is so transformative, your knowledge, your visibility, the exposure you have, and just who you are - building a connection with you will save lives. So if you are open to connecting, let’s make it happen!

    I've only had my EOS M and Magic Lantern for 3 months and it has been such a great experience. With the low cost of the body, I've been able to purchase a few lenses and accessories and learn as a complete beginner.
    The limitations of the camera has forced me to learn from my mistakes fast, but the accessibility has ultimately pushed me out of my comfort zone and go out and shoot. This documentary has given me more insight to the history of Magic lantern and I'm truly grateful for the community. I'm still hesitant to post on the Facebook groups, but I do appreciate all the content on UA-cam and other platforms.
    Thank you for this documentary. I have so much more appreciation of the hard work and talent that the community has produced.

      That's very smart to invest in lenses etc rather than blow all your cash on an expensive body. You're like a lot of us when we started and trust me....you made a good choice. The Eos-M and ml will teach you so much if you stick with it and at the same time it's very rewarding when to manage to create some finished work.
      Take your time and post when you're ready and look forward to seeing what you come up with 🙌🏾

Super cool to see the faces to all these big names, and for you to weave together the history, hear from artists, and get excited about the future of Magic Lantern. And man, I am so honoured that I got to make a small cameo in there, and that you linked to my video, what a pleasant surprise!!!

Just thousands of people who all help eachother and it's amazing.

    This is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. The best, on a camera I have seen. This video will be like watching an old training video from the 90s in 25 years. Big props to capture the true history of this, including all the interviews. I've been following your channel and you have said recently that you were struggling with making what felt like what we all are chasing.... You found it with this. Such great work and I believe you have this video as your new launchpad to higher plateaus. The combination of all you contribute to all of the due respect you give in this documentation of ML. I'm blown away at the guest interviews and it felt nice to see other artists talk about their journey. I am grateful they all decided to work with you to create this, and honestly.. a continued series of this would be cool to see... I believe this is a part of the magic lantern torch and when you're done running, you will be able to pass on something great to your family, friends, colleagues. Thank you for this video, thank you. Very nice, it was nostalgic, up to date, rugged, truthful, educational, inspirational, impactful, humbling, visionary, and most importantly.. it was genuine. Thank you to all participating parties involved in the making of this. Beautiful creation. Can't wait to see what you cook up next!

      People think it's a bunch of broke people who can't afford an expensive camera but it's actually lots of people who have a real love for creating, tinkering and building.

    A perfect Christmas eve present. Wonderful documentary! Watching it threw me back in time ~30 years listening to Spike Lee presenting in a NYC post house. He was giving a nearly identical presentation on shooting with a Sony DV camcorder. He too talked about the freedom that came with working with a small crew. A short time later I saw him shooting in Times Square with only about 5 people. So nice to see a new generation of folks who don't wait for luck to grant them "ideal" equipment before shooting. A truly cheap camera plus free Davinci Resolve is really all one needs--plus, of course the real keys, creativity and determination. Congratulations.

      This is such a good comment. We all start from somewhere and I love that you used spike lee as an example because he's considered one of the greats.
      When you shoot on big productions it is very restrictive and you loose the fun but doing small things allows you to just have fun.
      We definitely need to create our own opportunities and I do believe that magic lantern is a great tool that can give us those opportunities.

      @@Altcine Off topic question I have a fun video I created about a guy who's work began 50 years ago--and is relevant today. How do you get ut to pick it up? When I ask they say the algorithm does it! OK How does a NEW person get its attention? Many thanks!

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  11 місяців тому

      @@S.Mullen that's a very hard question. I'm no expert on UA-cam and "hacking" the algorithm but some people claim there's a method to it. Personally I don't know about that....the algorithm works off of people like, share, watch and comment on the video for the algorithm to do it's job so I don't think that just ANY video can go big.
      I would say make sure the first 30 secs look great, do a good thumbnail and title...but Tbh I struggle with this myself 😅

    • @S.Mullen
      @S.Mullen 11 місяців тому

      @Altcine  11 місяців тому

      @@S.Mullen I believe it'll generate lists of things to watch via stuff that you watch, save, search for and what other people watch who have watched the same videos as you.

    This piece is nicely done (as usual), and, as others have commented, it's inspiring! It's a wonderful idea, and it is great to finally see some of the unheralded contributors behind many of the ML/EOSM advancements.
    Can't wait for the E-to-EFM mount -- even without the secondary E-mount locking pin (although there might be a way to fit a lever into the limited clearance between the front of the EOSM and the mount).
    Happy Holidays!
    Thanks!

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  11 місяців тому +2

      Yeah man, Magic Lantern is like a big machine with lots of moving parts that we rarely see.
      The mount is ready, just need to test it on a few cams. We really thought hard about the locking pin but it's still quite challenging. The thing that worries me the most is the extra work dialling in the CNC and extra parts needed will drive up the price and slow down production and shipments. Eos-M in M-lite body, 1080P standard settings, meike 50mm F1.2 and Nd filter.
      I don't change much like most people. I usually leave the settings alone when it comes to resolution.

    Eos M music video looks kinda good :D
    Lol... I bought a 5dmk2. And am experimenting with Raw video and what not. And alot comes down to lighting! If you can light the things you film properly. It matters much less with what camera you shoot!
    The problem is i suppose. If you would invest lots of money in filming a video, and then shoot it on 5dmk2. Why not invest in better gear. And then the question is how better it is?? Like 5dmk2 comapared to r5 for example. Wich is not that expensive anymore. 2.5k for one! So... I guess its some math. You could rent a camera i suppose... You can buy probably very good lights for 2,5 k instead! And make something prety darn good... I guess it fits in the low budget category!!! But the things is, its gonna mach up with high end very well.. Many people would not be able to tell the difference...
    So. Its about what you put in the frame that matters :D

    what would you recommend between the EOS m with magic lantern or the 700d with crop mood?

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  11 місяців тому +1

      Both have crop mood so you're ok with either camera. It then comes down to size & lens choice.

    how do you deal with moiré in the video? does eos m not have it? in 5 dm2 it is very common

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  6 місяців тому

      Yes it's a big problem. Many people choose various different methods at reducing it but you can never eliminate it.
      Most people just choose not to shoot 1080p but then you have extreme rolling shutter.
      You just have to choose the right mode for the scene you're shooting.
