Thank you for making this. I’ve used Magic Lantern for over 10 years to teach film and photography to high school students in low income inner city schools across the United States. The software made it possible for me to afford the cameras I would put in their hands and allow them film their own short movies, documentary projects, and fun videos. I've only had my EOS M and Magic Lantern for 3 months and it has been such a great experience. With the low cost of the body, I've been able to purchase a few lenses and accessories and learn as a complete beginner. The limitations of the camera has forced me to learn from my mistakes fast, but the accessibility has ultimately pushed me out of my comfort zone and go out and shoot. This documentary has given me more insight to the history of Magic lantern and I'm truly grateful for the community. I'm still hesitant to post on the Facebook groups, but I do appreciate all the content on UA-cam and other platforms. Thank you for this documentary. I have so much more appreciation of the hard work and talent that the community has produced.
Thank you for watching. That's very smart to invest in lenses etc rather than blow all your cash on an expensive body. You're like a lot of us when we started and trust me....you made a good choice. The Eos-M and ml will teach you so much if you stick with it and at the same time it's very rewarding when to manage to create some finished work. Take your time and post when you're ready and look forward to seeing what you come up with 🙌🏾
Wow, fantastic video! What a great Christmas gift. Super cool to see the faces to all these big names, and for you to weave together the history, hear from artists, and get excited about the future of Magic Lantern. This is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. The best, on a camera I have seen. This video will be like watching an old training video from the 90s in 25 years. Big props to capture the true history of this, including all the interviews. Such great work and I believe you have this video as your new launchpad to higher plateaus. The combination of all you contribute to all of the due respect you give in this documentation of ML. I'm blown away at the guest interviews and it felt nice to see other artists talk about their journey. I am grateful they all decided to work with you to create this, and honestly.. a continued series of this would be cool to see... I believe this is a part of the magic lantern torch and when you're done running, you will be able to pass on something great to your family, friends, colleagues. Thank you for this video, thank you. This piece is nicely done (as usual), and, as others have commented, it's inspiring! It's a wonderful idea, and it is great to finally see some of the unheralded contributors behind many of the ML/EOSM advancements. Can't wait for the E-to-EFM mount -- even without the secondary E-mount locking pin (although there might be a way to fit a lever into the limited clearance between the front of the EOSM and the mount). Happy Holidays! Thanks!
Yeah man, Magic Lantern is like a big machine with lots of moving parts that we rarely see. The mount is ready, just need to test it on a few cams. We really thought hard about the locking pin but it's still quite challenging. The thing that worries me the most is the extra work dialling in the CNC and extra parts needed will drive up the price and slow down production and shipments. I really don't want another M-LITE scenario where people are waiting months for their product. Thanks for the comment brother 🙏🏾
Great documentary and great marketing for the new Mlite batch ♥️. The history behind ML was unknown to me so I appreciate the effort to investigate about it.
Thank you mate. It's an interesting story and one that we all face with cameras not being quite "complete". We had so many people messaging us to get an M-Lite it was crazy. We thought one last batch for late comers and that's it 😁

Wow! That footage at 16:41 looks really good. Which camara, ML version, settings, lens etc did you use? I am trying to get the same resulta using a canon t5i. I would appreciate the info. Thanks!
Eos-M in M-lite body, 1080P standard settings, meike 50mm F1.2 and Nd filter. I don't change much like most people. I usually leave the settings alone when it comes to resolution.
Eos M music video looks kinda good :D Lol... I bought a 5dmk2. And am experimenting with Raw video and what not. And alot comes down to lighting! If you can light the things you film properly. It matters much less with what camera you shoot! The problem is i suppose. If you would invest lots of money in filming a video, and then shoot it on 5dmk2. Why not invest in better gear. And then the question is how better it is?? Like 5dmk2 comapared to r5 for example. Wich is not that expensive anymore. 2.5k for one! So... I guess its some math. You could rent a camera i suppose... You can buy probably very good lights for 2,5 k instead! And make something prety darn good... I guess it fits in the low budget category!!! But the things is, its gonna mach up with high end very well.. Many people would not be able to tell the difference... So. Its about what you put in the frame that matters :D
what are the chances that after releasing this video , someone decided to cut the official Magic Lantern site, as we speak I am no longer able to enter the site or the forum, i was literally using it for the past 2 weeks, now i get an error , not allowing me to continue :(((((
Yeah I saw that on the Facebook group today 😮 it can't be anything to do with this video though...all this information is freely available on the internet.
@@Altcine my original thought was that someone was jealous of what magic lantern achieved and decided to go against it, after I did some research I found that ML license is expiring and that's why we are having issues , I do apologize for my comment I just hoped I would get some help , respect for the video, I know is good . I am yet going to watch it tonight
Yes it's a big problem. Many people choose various different methods at reducing it but you can never eliminate it. Most people just choose not to shoot 1080p but then you have extreme rolling shutter. You just have to choose the right mode for the scene you're shooting.

Enjoyable documentary honoring the GREAT MLV
Thank you
This piece is nicely done (as usual), and, as others have commented, it's inspiring!
Great job bro! Love the history part of it and all credit where is due. A must needed documentary. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks brother. Yeah it was interesting looking into Trammell. He's still active in software etc but on a much bigger scale. Thanks again 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Oh my word they had no control over aperture shutter speed or iso in movie recording…that sounds like canon being canon even way back then 😂
Yeah lol what madness where they thinking 😂
Great documentary and great marketing for the new Mlite batch ♥️. The history behind ML was unknown to me so I appreciate the effort to investigate about it.
Thank you mate. It's an interesting story and one that we all face with cameras not being quite "complete".
We had so many people messaging us to get an M-Lite it was crazy. We thought one last batch for late comers and that's it 😁
A great Christmas morning watch, Merry Christmas.
Awesome 🎁 Merry Christmas to you
I have only been in the community for about a year so it was really nice to see the history. Really well made documentary that made me proud of my eos m even though I have not done much yet
All in good time brother, enjoy the process 🙌🏾 thank you for watching and glad to have you in the community.
Make sure you share some shots on the group when you feel ready.
Wow! This video is so cool. I have been following you for some time now. I am an intermediate filmmaker from Nepal. At the beginning of the career, it is so hard to buy a professional camera. So, I am planning to use canon 700D with magic lantern this year as my main camera. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you for inspiring me with magic lantern.
The 700D sounds perfect for you and I fully believe it'll give you the results you need...these cameras are perfect to start out on imo.
Thank you so much brother and I wish you lots of success with your studies and future goals.
Just Great man!! Awesome job, love it👍
Thank you man
Mate, ive just spent six hours eatching utter crap on TV and then BINGO! Check my phone and your absolute gem of a documentary pops up. Really, really enjoyed this Col. Got me thinking to getting out my eos m and perservering with ML. Not on facebook but miight have to give in and join for tje group. Thanks for doing this and all your other stuff, happy christmas mate! Great present for all of us!!!!
Hey Pete, happy Christmas 🎁.
I'm glad you enjoyed this man, I've actually been working on it for months and despite a big setback I'm happy with how it turned out.
Yeah you need to dust off that m, join Facebook under a random account and join the group....it's the easiest way to get started with ml.
I hope to see you there and have a great day🙌🏾
I’m itching to give magic lantern another chance on my eos m 😮
You should man, even if it's just for a hobby.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI he has an Eos-M already.
@@Altcine Merry Christmas big brother! And yes the best part is that I didn’t sell my eos m! It’s a great little thing that you and I know each other well enough through this camera and it’s worth every single penny, God bless you always my dear friend
@@LouisLuzuka yep, so good you kept it and it really did open up my friend list. I feel I could travel to any country, any region and know someone who lives there.
Merry Christmas brother.
wow, was looking for one but got my other camera that I dreamed of but I was looking into this camera cam still in awww that I might get one for B cam but still playing with my new one not gonna say names gotta respect magic lantern and EOS
Hey bro, it's cool to say what you got....I actually want to know now 😅
SONY FX-30 incredible camera good choice I went for it because I have always been a SONY USER AND FAN @@Altcine and I have always loved super 35 I have never done full frame I stuck with what I started and im already used to it and deep into the super 35 sensor gear and options
amazing! Bravo 👏👏
Thanks man 🙌🏾🙌🏾
The light blue outfit and how everything else is gold/bronze is awesome. Also, Zeek started another channel based solely on ministry. Just letting you know in case you were wondering.
Thanks bro, I really like this set design too.
Yes I saw Zeeks new channel ❤️🙏🏾
I had a feeling it was faith based and im sure there is good reason as to why he isn't following up on the channel or its comments, at least last i checked. @@Altcine

Oh, I definitely know what its like to answer God, even when He calls and i don't want to answer. Its always right when i'm about to fall asleep lol @@Altcine
Fantastic man. Worked out well and not too long either. Big congratulations 🎉
Thanks man, yeah just right 👍🏾 thanks again for clip and all the work you do on the group 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Awesome!! Congrats on the documentary, very well done. Some great creators and amazing projects, Thanks for including me.😁
Hey Chris, did you see my post on the ml group? I lost a ton of footage man...this doc was nearly 40mins long so I lost quite a lot including the interview I shot in Paris.
I've still got to update the links so I'll add yours soon . Thanks for your support brother 🙌🏾
Oh no I didn't realize, Sorry to here. I loved it, some great interviews. No worries what so ever on the link update, I haven't had as much time to spend with ML as I'd like to recently. Happy Holidays! & Thanks for sharing your love of film making with us all. @@Altcine

Tom: Please Start Working on a Model for the EOS- M2. 🎉
He got Zeek up in it!!
Yeah I had to show his face otherwise it didn't feel right.
Nice 👍 I'm new to the game with my canon 700d as well, love all the tutorials and resources from the creators❤
Thank you. Yeah the community is amazing...the best. I hope everything is going well with the 700d?
@@Altcine yes, everything is going great 👍 love the video and eager to learn more and optimized the potential of my 700d with magic lantern.
@@ricewine122 awesome the 700D is the current favourite right now 👌🏾
Just watched your doc cole it was informative and entertaining perfect balance leaned a lot this is better than most of the docs I've seen recently on tv well done 👍
Hey Tony, thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a happy new year 🎊
Amazing work
Thank you my brother 🙌🏾
Great job 👏
Thank you! 😃
@@Altcine this was an important project for the film community.
Eos M music video looks kinda good :D
Lol...
This episode reminded me of Disney's Fantasia.
Such awesome work man!
Thank you
Great DOC! Does anyone happen to know what happened to ZEEK? His videos got me into the ZCAM video and eventually led me to your videos.
Thank you so much. Zeek has moved on from making gear videos and now has a Christian ministry channel talking about the Gospels.
what would you recommend between the EOS m with magic lantern or the 700d with crop mood?
Both have crop mood so you're ok with either camera. It then comes down to size & lens choice.
Excellent job bro.
Much appreciated man 🙌🏾
GREAT film brother!
Thank you brother
I love your work ethics man . I 'd love to be friends with you .
Thank you brother, my door is always open and I love to meet new people. Imstagram is a better place to chat 🙌🏾🙌🏾

what are the chances that after releasing this video , someone decided to cut the official Magic Lantern site, as we speak I am no longer able to enter the site or the forum, i was literally using it for the past 2 weeks, now i get an error , not allowing me to continue :(((((
Yeah I saw that on the Facebook group today 😮 it can't be anything to do with this video though...all this information is freely available on the internet.
@@ksz191 I just read that too 😅 hopefully it gets renewed soon. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
This is great stuff❤
Thank you so much 🙏🏾
Thanks for this - super inspiring
how do you deal with moiré in the video? does eos m not have it? in 5 dm2 it is very common
Yes it's a big problem. Many people choose various different methods at reducing it but you can never eliminate it.
Most people just choose not to shoot 1080p but then you have extreme rolling shutter.
You just have to choose the right mode for the scene you're shooting.
Mostly about users.
Yep 👍🏾👍🏾
