Hey, thank you. The Anamorphic mount has an opening of 10mm so as long as it covers the optics and you can mount it close...it should be fine. I would love to have manual focus on this lens.
This is so cool! Perfect timing - I'm currently playing around with the same mobile phone 1.55x anamorphic adapter and a 24mm Pentax 110A lens (which is insanely tiny) for my MCC using vintage Kodak Telek negative diopters & stuff. Completely horrible rigging so far, but good goofy geeky fun.
Awesome man, this stuff is getting so affordable now it's great that we can experiment without fear of loosing money if we don't like results. Glad you're having fun with it 🙌🏾
Great video, I'm curious if you think the same iPhone-lens could work for the "7artisan 18mm F6.3 Ultra-thin APS-C Prime Lens Fit for Fujifilm", as the Viltrox is not available for Fuji systems? And would the 18mm vs 28mm possibly mean you'd get an even wider crop, or would it just mean more vignetting?
Thank you, it all depends on the front element. The Viltrox is only 10mm so that's why this works without any issue. If another brand has tiny optics of around 10mm then it'll work too.
I asume if I was to shoot on FX30 or any other apsc sensor, I would crop some of those edges and the blurriness around the edges wouldn't be so prominent, do I understand it correctly?
@@thetomy1223 that's right. Tbh the aspect ratio (full width)I have on this video is too much...I only did it for effect. If I was to use this properly I'd crop in more. The good thing with FX30 is that even if you leave it full width you'll have very little edge distortion. On the flip side, if you try to avoid it, you'll just end up with a look that could have been done on a normal spherical lens.
I actually enjoy how the 28mm lens actually keeps a lot of the shot in focus. As in similar to deep focus settings as if f/16 or something. I have plenty of lenses for depth of field but I miss having shots showing everything without resorting to using a camcorder with a smaller sensor. its crazy! 3:20
Nice idea and results, but may I add something? I don't think that it is correct to say that it covers the full frame sensor, it just cover the front element of the lens and it has a big enought size to not interfer with the 28mm focal lenght. I will get this lens when becomes available at stores, just to pair it with a sony a5000 or a5100 and have the minimal setup posible when I don't feel like carry a bigger camera (btw, I only do stills, and I am trying to get into video).

When I was still using Olympus em1 mkii I had the Panasonic 14mm 2.5, same size ish and honestly that lens looked way better than expected. Maybe there’s some magic going on with these little lenses!
Insane setup for the price. Someone could make a feature film with this setup and people would just think the softness is an intentional creative choice.
If they have this with a Amber or neutral, that would be perfect I’ve never been a fan of the blue cast for some of these cheaper and amorphicS. Good stuff
I've even worn an anamorphic lens with the same product, but the resolution is too low. However, if you look at the video you filmed, you can see that the resolution is high resolution. I wonder if there's anything else you've done or the setting of the camera.
@@silver__toad Contrast..adding contrast is the best thing you can do for the Viltrox as I showed in the video. I also use a bit of sharpening with this setup. I'm also thinking there may be big differences in the anamorphic adapter quality. I haven't used anything like Topaz etc, everything was done in resolve.
Hi! I just got mine today, and built the whole anamorphic mod. While the footage looks GLORIOUS, the lens itself seems to have HORRIBLE focus breathing, and kept hunting for my face, leading to REALLY shaky footage even on a tripod. @@jeancedrick217 hey, yeah it has noticeable focus breathing. To make it look better you should try stabilisation. It won't remove it but it'll smooth it out. Very creative DIY! Great job on the video. 👍
@@ScottJWaldron Thanks Scott 👍🏾👍🏾
Just released? Bro it isn't even live yet on indiegogo
Oh damn, they said it's going live on the 27th 🤔
@@AltCine I'm just messing about, I like your content and will for sure be trying out your hack once I can get my hands on this lens.
I appreciate thinking outside of the box! Great job! Might use it for my bands music video! Thank you!
@@kmalienko thank you and if you do, please share it with me as I'd love to see it. I honestly think that would be a perfect use case for this 🙌🏾
Awesome work! I wonder if the Ulanzi or Smallrig 1.55x adapters would go onto the front of the pancake lens? Both of them have threads and allow ND filters to be added in easy.
Thank you. I do want to try one of those and see what the edges are like.
This video has done quite well so it might be worth the investment.
This is really cool. I like the way you think. Im curious though. Would this work with the canon 24mm stm lens? That one is an f.28 apsc lens but it has a small front element just like this lens and it has the option for manual focus. The lens is also super cheap. What are your thoughts?
Give it a try and report back
Hey, thank you.
Great idea! Awesome video! I'll definitely try it out. Thanks for making! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you kindly
I asume if I was to shoot on FX30 or any other apsc sensor, I would crop some of those edges and the blurriness around the edges wouldn't be so prominent, do I understand it correctly?
@@thetomy1223 that's right. Tbh the aspect ratio (full width)I have on this video is too much...I only did it for effect. If I was to use this properly I'd crop in more.
The good thing with FX30 is that even if you leave it full width you'll have very little edge distortion.
On the flip side, if you try to avoid it, you'll just end up with a look that could have been done on a normal spherical lens.
Great vid as usual mate!
Thank you so much 🙌🏾
I actually enjoy how the 28mm lens actually keeps a lot of the shot in focus. As in similar to deep focus settings as if f/16 or something. I have plenty of lenses for depth of field but I miss having shots showing everything without resorting to using a camcorder with a smaller sensor. its crazy! 3:20
I totally understand. Dof looks great but when you're traveling places you want to see everything and this lens does that.
this was rad, keep it up dude!
You're a genius! This idea is so cool!❤
Thanks man 🙌🏾 it's such a cool little experiment
Nice idea and results, but may I add something?
I don't think that it is correct to say that it covers the full frame sensor, it just cover the front element of the lens and it has a big enought size to not interfer with the 28mm focal lenght.
I will get this lens when becomes available at stores, just to pair it with a sony a5000 or a5100 and have the minimal setup posible when I don't feel like carry a bigger camera (btw, I only do stills, and I am trying to get into video).
@@PauloOreda I understand where you're coming from, thank you.
Yeah this will be good for a budget setup. Once you work out the pro's & cons it's fantastic to create with.
what a creative modification, thkU show us more of these cheers
@@absurdfool thank you. Yes I definitely will. The video did so well that it's definitely of interest to people.
love this hack, very cool! might see if I can do this with my old moment gold flare anamorphic, its been in a drawer for ages. awesome video!
Awesome, yeah if you have it then it's definitely worth a try .
I wonder if it's possible to do this on the newly released Samyang remaster slim, the brighter 2.8 and 32mm seems to be a nice fit for this mod.
Wow! I never seen that...what a fantastic concept. I think I'm going to try that.
Literally the goat
@@cine-ish thank you brother
Awesome video, your videos continue to inspire me. Well done!
@@monkeyofspice thank you so much. I'm glad you liked it. Honestly, this one was a lot of fun to do and it's something I know I'll use long-term.
Footage looks great! So refreshing to see footage at f4 vs f.095 😂 your using the fx30 so more like f6ish for DOF but with more light correct? When I was still using Olympus em1 mkii I had the Panasonic 14mm 2.5, same size ish and honestly that lens looked way better than expected. Maybe there’s some magic going on with these little lenses!
@@Morroh thank you, definitely some magic going on lol...it kinda got vintage vibes if you don't add a lot of contrast.
I'm using FX3 in this video.
@@AltCinewould an FX30 work the same in this case?
Thanks a lot ! Great video and footage. Will try that in one of my next videos !
Awesome, let me know when you upload please.
Would be great to get infinity focus,
P.S Does this require post-processing (like de-squeeze etc..?)
Yeah it would, I really wish this lens had manual focus too. Yes it has to be desqeezed.
Insane setup for the price. Someone could make a feature film with this setup and people would just think the softness is an intentional creative choice.
@@LandonEpps absolutely. If it was paired with a similar lens with a longer focal length, I think you could do a lot.
If they have this with a Amber or neutral, that would be perfect I’ve never been a fan of the blue cast for some of these cheaper and amorphicS. Good stuff
That's a neat idea! great work
Thanks man 🙌🏾
I've even worn an anamorphic lens with the same product, but the resolution is too low.
Quality content! I love the idea to use such a cheat, mobile phone anamorphic adater!
Thank you. On this style of lens it's a great option. And so good that everything is so easy to construct.
thank you, this also opens the opportunity to use another mobile lens with it. as macro lenses for example.,
@@RicardoBarbosaEVGA definitely 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Hi! I just got mine today, and built the whole anamorphic mod. While the footage looks GLORIOUS, the lens itself seems to have HORRIBLE focus breathing, and kept hunting for my face, leading to REALLY shaky footage even on a tripod. I tried shooting without the anamorphic mod, and the bad focus breathing is still there. I was wondering if you noticed this as well, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Thanks!
@@jeancedrick217 hey, yeah it has noticeable focus breathing. To make it look better you should try stabilisation. It won't remove it but it'll smooth it out.
Is the hunting still there without the Anamorphic mod? Tbh the adapter shouldn't make a difference but you may have a faulty lens.
Do a couple more tests and show me on Instagram @altcinecam
Did you manage the problem, mate? Cause i want to build the same setup and it looks not promising :(
@@ЭрикСкляров-б4с not really bro. I have zero idea how Alt CINE got their footage to be majestic af, coz mine was kinda horrible. It could not focus for anything, and it will hunt focus HORRIBLY as soon as anything else gets in front. :/
Awesome idea! Would you get even better results with a expensive anamorphic phone lens? Like the one from smallrig?
@@hanfpv3093 Thank you. I guess that's possible and something I'd love to try.
Love this DIY ..... very creative. Thanks
Thank you Tony
Great explanation & video! Any recommendations for a 100-500€ adapter? This budget one has some very dodgy artifacts in my eye.
Thank you. A couple people recommended Beastgrip but I've never used one.
An awesome video, i really appreciated and enjoyed it. As a Canon shooter myself, does anyone have any suggestions for a lens this could work with on the EF EF-S or RF mount? Thanks again!
Thank you kindly. There's quite a few affordable pancake lenses on the market that will work with this. As long as the optics are around 10mm (tiny) it'll work. You'll also have better results with lenses that have manual focus.
Mate, this is brilliant 👌
@@followtheboat thank you 😁
Great video, brilliant idea. Thank you
This fr need to go viral
I hope so, it would be nice to have one viral video 🙌🏾
Does this method work with Canon 40mm f2.8 pancake lenses?
@@xdmflx I have no idea it all depends on front element size.
Nice idea! Will it work on the eosm with the 22mm pancake? 🤔
Thank you. I think the lens optics are a little bigger but you might get away with it if using magic lantern.
Excellent video, very cool, thanks!
Brilliant! More power to small front elements. 👍
Absolutely bro, I want more of them now 😅
Has the lens a magnetic front? If yes maybe magnetic anamorphics from Neewer will also work...
@@Photografather it has metal underneath and a magnet will stick to it
