Hi Eddie, thanks for the great video! Just one question: Is it possible to replace the chains without taking the engine out of the engine bay?
    Thanks in advance!

is 164.3.0v6 12v better to use mineral oil than synthetic? and why? if the outside temperature is -38- +39, what is the best oil for that?

      -38??? 100% sinthetic no heavier than 5w30

Hi Eddy, I'd just like to hear what you really think of this engine. Dynamically, do you reckon it is a worthy "successor" to the Busso ? Or at least a good engine for what it is meant to be ? I've heard from a few people that once you fit a complete, aftermarket engine back exhaust system (replacing all the restrictive cats) combined with a remap it becomes a gem of an engine. I mean, Alfa did the heads in the end... and that's what makes an engine.

Thanks for the email... the 3200. GM Holden. Alfa mix Could be a gem... needs improved oil pump, oil ways around the sump could be properly made, the spray jets to the con rods have been modded by engineers from OZ.
CHIPS ..CAMS AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS can always improve performance, manufacturing for the general population is a totally
Compromise between performance and economy .
The Busso is a supper unit.... 2000 turbo, 2500. 3000. 3200 all made by Alfa . 12 and 24 valve versions with carbs and injected
Is a great engine... and it looked the part as well. Being old fashioned and : when I wos a lad: and stuck in the past .... I like the Busso a lot more . Cant get the rear head off in situ or do a injector clean on the late engine. And I hate direct injection with a vengeance.
The valve chambers coke up and valve stems start to size up the valve guides so chains wear out quickly. But the manufacturer does not care because performance figures are better when new with direct injection. Never had a coked up head on the Busso, I get totally coked up heads on the later engine. I get intake manifolds coked up. I use a hydrogen generator to de coke all cars coming into my workshop now. WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT. HOPE YOUR WHOLE CIRCLE OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE WELL. PLEASE STAY SAFE.
      REGARDS EDDY

@@AlfamanGarageServices Thank you Eddy for this honest reply. I wish your family and yourself to stay safe too. I’m terribly divided - hesitating between a late 159 3.2 V6 Q4 manual (2008 on, with the lighter aluminum chassis components) and a 156 2.5 V6 24V. Both cost around the same in good condition (5000 pounds-ish when converted from my local currency in Switzerland). The 159 just looks incredible and has AWD, but the 156 has the Busso. And it’s a good 200 kg lighter. Such a tough choice. Looks and performance, or driving experience. What do you reckon?

I dont know any that break down, i have a brera and 159 both reliable but need regular oil, and they dont like old batteries, change them every few years.
Timing belt/ chain change on time and they are bullet proff.
They are all over 70000 miles now so need looking after

Lovely video! Great explanation :-) I am just considering to buy a used Brera 3,2 V6 with this GM engine. Would you please give me some advise about the engine if its okay? What would you recomend to avoid before buying Brera 3,2?

Youre about 10 years too late, they are all high milers now so extra care needs to be taken.
Those worried about reliability should by a new car not a 10 year old one.

      @Eddy Mann
      Hello Eddy
Greet from Slovakia. In May last year I bought AR159 3.2JTS Q4 2006 year manufacture with the fact that all 3 timing chains were replaced together with 3 hydraulic tensioners and also the tracks of all chains and I received an invoice for the seller to assure me that this is true.
I was told that due to the fact that the engine has already driven more than 120,000 km, it is recommended to use only engine oil Petronas Selenia Racing 10W60 and advised me that the oil level should always be slightly above the maximum so I was trying to keeped and used only this oil during all year lightly above maximum.
However, about a month ago I noticed (I drove about 5000km in a year) that if the engine is off more than a few hours, just after new start to hear the loose chain quite strongly until the oil pump develops sufficient oil pressure so the rattling of the chain I hear about 1-2 second from starting the engine . So I don't want to ride that car anymore, because I'm afraid there will be fatal consequences because some of the tensioners are not new or not tight or some chain is not new despite the seller's claim last year.
I also hear a slight rattling of the chain at engine rpm 1000-1500, if the car is stationary when the engine is warm and also when driving downhill, when I brake by engine (manual transmission) and window on right side is fully open.
I'm thinking of fixing it myself, but first I want to measure the oil pressure by unscrew the oil pressure switch and mount some manometer, I've found where it's located, but momentary I don't know what thread size is used there M12 or M14 ?
The reason I want to check the oil pressure is that before it is necessary to replace what has already been "replaced", I want to check that the oil pressure is not low in 1000-1500 rpm, which would indicate a clogged strainer of oil pump suction or some problem with reduction valve (pressure regulator valve).
Although as I saw in your video, tensioners should tighten the chains even without oil pressure, at least to the extent that there is no rattling, the question is whether they are new and whether the chains are new ...
The oil level and temperature sensor has long since stopped working, so I test the level exclusively with a bar scale, but in the future I would like to bring oil pressure value to the dashboard.
Another thing I don't like about this engine is that the oil pump returns excess oil through the pressure regulator valve directly to the inlet and not to the oil pan, which can cause lubrication failures when the oil is hot and heavy foamy.
I have a question for you: Is it possible to make a replacement of tensioners, chains without the engine having to leave the car?
I assume that the biggest problem will be how to remove the a torsional vibration damper from the crankshaft ...
And if I want to clean the oil pump intake manifold and possibly check the function of the oil injectors for pistons cooling, is it possible to remove the oil pan without the engine having to leave the car?

Hi Eddie, i have 2.2JTS Brera. 112000km total. And about 1months ago i saw engine warning light. An alfa service checked the problem. They saw variator problem in computer. But when they checked variator, they can not see any problem. Everything seems good in variator. They delete system warning. But one weeks ago, engine light illuminated again. Do you have any idea for it? Thanks.
