I have an EXTREMELY HIGH LEVEL budget gaming computer that I got for about £350 from Chillblast (Fusion Axe 2) with not even a QUARTER OF THE RAM OR HALF the GPU memory of what Dan has, I still run this game blissfully well.

Well, it's not impossible. Games have been made with crazy destruction engines before (Red faction 1 to guerilla) so it's certainly possible.
