How to Paint Star Wars Legion Stormtroopers

  • I managed to find a complicated way to paint basic Star Wars Stormtroopers! Also, I forgot to mention in the video, but adding some soot-marks and/or battle damage may help to hid some of the mold line & detail problems. I didn't because never in the history of Star Wars has a stormtrooper ever been only wounded.

    A good way of grouping mini together is to apply a specific piece of terrain for a squad

    Perfect timing! A friend just today told me he picked up Legion and asked me about how to paint his new miniatures... and I see this come up in my subscriptions!

    Great tutorial. To tell the units apart, I paint a thin coloured band on the back edge of the base.

    I would recommend priming grey, drybrush white, and airbrush very thinned down black ink. Then high light and detail.

    In my opinion, the best way to differentiate squads is to do each squad with a different base design that's similar enough to be in the same army. For example, the two from my starter set are differentiated by one having just grating and the other adding pipes to that.

    I always thought stormtroopers were more of an eggshell than white...No wait...I thought their armor was *_MADE_* of eggshell...that's what it was

    I think they came out great, yeah, the mold lines are a real pain on these figures and really subtract from the quality. Despite that snag, I'm thinking of getting these figures and painting them up as Shadow Troopers because why not?!

    After doing some reading and thinking, I have to agree with the quality of the miniatures. It does seem they want this to be a "gateway" game for non-miniature people to try out, hence the majority of the figures not requiring a whole lot of assembly. I find them a bit disappointing as well. I have never seen the plastic cement "trick" before, so thank you for that. Just wish I had known it before I cleaned, based and primed all of them. ;)
    One of the best videos on these models I have seen and look forward to the others.

      Yeah, I found the minis really disappointing too. So bad that I probably wont buy any more besides the starter set I already have. I actually have 2x Imperial starter sets bec a friend and I traded minis. I think they really missed an opportunity to make something fantastic and just missed completely.

    Didn't think of using plastic cement for touching up after filing the mold lines. I assume using old brushes for that would be possible only once before they cannot be used for anything again? I only have Revell Contacta with a needle applicator.

    Good doctor, could you comment a bit on your basing techniques? The sand you use has some great variety, are you using any pre-made mixes? Also I am assuming that you glue the trooper to the base and then put sand around him? Thanks for the great tutorial!

      GF9 Rocky and medium gravel and GW sand. Glue ti down after attaching the mini.

    Amazing video like usual, do you plan on doing some videos of painting rebels as well?

  • @werewolfkai

    Fantasy Flight Games likes to go overboard on production, but with their miniatures games it's always about quantity over quality, ultimately. These figures will be created quickly for their massive print run, and likely not ever again, so that may drive the level of quality control.

    How were you able to spray Vallejo Model Color ? .. interesting
    It is really thick color and hard to thin .. they recommend using Model Air for airbrushing.

    • @TheRunesmythe
      @TheRunesmythe 6 років тому +1

      I airbrush with Vallejo Model and Game Colors all the time. All it takes is some Flow Improver and Water to get it to a consistency suitable for running it through the airbrush.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  6 років тому

      You just have to thin it enough and keep it stirred up so it doesn't settle.

    That's a shame about seam lines I just built the AT-RT and it was very good, a few sink marks to clean up on AT-RT but I thought the Rebel sitting on it was pretty good. I don't know how you paint so many at once, I painted one and said that's enough I will paint another later

    So these are PVC so plastic glue will melt them?
    (Is resin the same as PVC?)
    What type of plastic glue do you recommend?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 років тому

      You have to use super glue. Plastic cement doesn't work the same way on these as on styrene models.

    Nice job. What do you think of the game? I have found it to be severely imbalanced. Not sure this one is going to make it...even with the SW license behind it.

      What balance issues are you referring to?
      And why would it be a big issue, balance issues can be solved and the game hasnt been out for even a month yet.
