Did you know that those mushrooms attach to rocks and actually break the rocks down into soil and minerals. They leech the nitrates right out of the rock and it collapses eventually.

In a little town in Riverside CA called Glen Avon we grew up in a house that used to be a Butterfield Stage Coach stop. When remodeling it we found old newspapers in the walls I guesss that was used for insulation. It was a huge house and we kept the outside of it original except for the paint. It was a very cool old house with huge rooms, bedrooms, bath, kitchen living room all very big. Good times!

Stage stops were seldom used for layovers . The stage would stop and passangers would get a chance to freshen up and get a meal . In the mean time , station attendants would change out the team of horses for fresh horses to continue on to the next station or destination . Should be remnants of a corral and feed shed .

On a good day you could travel 10-12 miles in a day. On this road you would have at least 3 nights just to cross the valley, which took us a heck of a lot less. I see the same scenes in your videos.

I really enjoy your wanderings. I have a whole new appreciation for the area. I'm one of those folks who like deserts areas. The eyeball liberty is pretty darn good too! Thanks for sharing!

Extremeophile algae are often found in hot springs, often giving the surrounding pools a rainbow of color.

That pool looked like Morning Glory Pool at Yellowstone. Great video! Nancy

A local rancher told me that the old stagecoach station was wrapped in some kind of metal reinforcement before they detonated Project Faultless, so it wouldn't collapse. I guess it worked.

I think the same as Larry when it comes to the laser thermometer, it is fine for measuring the surface temperature but it would not be accurate at the temperatures below the surface, temperatures below the surface may be substantially hotter and pose a scalding risk.

That's right, a good meat thermometer dipped in that pool would be more accurate, but the way it's boiling I don't think it would be safe to swim in.
