I have had an unimaginable day.
Came home, mixed a drink, and searched Wonderhussy. Awwww. Much better. Thank you.
I just took a picture by that Clydesdale in Jackpot! It is a strange little town. I was there the day before you heading to Idaho. I used to drive for Budweiser and got to help with the Clydesdale team once. So fun.
What became Jackpot was founded in 1954 with the construction of the Horse Shu Club, which opened on March 18, 1954. At the time, the most northerly settlement in Elko County was Contact, about fifteen miles to the south. An enormous success, with one million pre-inflation dollars in prizes being issued by October 1955, the Horse Shu was quickly joined by a second casino, the Pair-o-Dice, 400 feet to the south, which opened August 18, 1954.
Meanwhile, Cactus Pete's was originally established in Mineral Springs, twelve miles to the south, opening on July 2, 1954. Two years later, losing too much business to the Horse Shu, it relocated to its present site across the highway from its then chief competitor, opening on October 1, 1956.
A hamlet grew up around the casinos; in May 1958, it became an unincorporated town named Horse Shu, but under pressure from Pete Piersanti, the name was withdrawn and the town became known as Unincorporated Township Number One. In April the following year, with the agreement of the Horse Shu owners (Don French had sold in December 1956) and Pete Piersanti, the town was renamed Jackpot.
In 1960, the town was connected to the electrical grid, the old hand-cranked telephones were replaced with a modern system, a post office opened and a full-time sheriff's deputy was assigned. What had been just a remote spot in the high desert seven years earlier was now a 'mini-Reno.'
Maybe school mascot should be “Jackpot Jackalopes”, lol.
Wonderhussy Wednesday❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Or maybe the Jackpot Slots. I'll leave you all to come up with the bad jokes on that one.
Jackpot Juggalos? Nah, too much like the term for the followers of Insane Clown Posse.....Oh...How about...Jokes of Jackpot?....nah, that sounds mean and no ring to it......Ohh ohh I got it.....Jackpot..... Jackpot Justifiers???....Man this is a tough game.
You nailed it on the first guess! It really is the Jackpot Jaguars.
Too bad Jackpot is so small, no football team at the high school according to their website (yes, they have a website!).
@@lvglen Glen -- many small Nevada and California schools have 8 boy football--and sometimes young females are on the team.. Lee Vining, California, finally dropped football a few years ago--not enough kids would go out..Class sizes had shrunk greatly. By contrast, Virginia City re-added football in 2007, and they are still playing...
@@bobcuster8930 I am quite aware that there are several different school classifications in Nevada, with the smallest in the state playing 8-man football. I used to work for a TV production company that recorded the state championship games for all of the Nevada classifications. At the time the smallest division was 1A, and we even had several schools in and around Las Vegas that were 1A, including Trinity Christian, Indian Springs and Beatty, Nevada. However, the website for Jackpot School does not list football as an interscholastic sport. I went to high school in Arizona, and there was an eight-man football classification there as well.
Good that you were able to restock your camping supplies. Thanks for sharing your 2016 photo of you and the Clydesdale.
We ALL enjoyed that one! BTW, you haven't changed a whole lot in 5 years.
I used to have a neighbor, a retired policeman, who would fly his Piper Cherokee down to Jackpot now and then to acquire female accompaniment at some of those trailers. Then a bourbon and a steak dinner at Cactus Pete's, get some sleep, and then fly home the following day.
Can't wait until Wonderhussy can have some COFFEE again. lol,
I played endless gigs there from 1980-2002. I was even there on 911, while playing bass for the Herb Mcquay show.
It’s not a bad place, but it ‘is’ remote.
We musicians used to refer to it as ‘Jock Strap’ Nevada….
Lots of great memories….
Did he play "Oh How Happy"? RIP to him, he died in 2005. Did he pass in Jackpot?
@@billstill1794 No, Herb passed away in Reno, while performing.
He was an absolutely wonderful person and an excellent performer….
@@paulnicolosi4792 Thanks! Was just wondering. And yes, I googled Herb and read his biography.
I love how these videos show a more authentic America and the deserts look so beautiful.
That's why I clicked to see the photo!!! Thanks for sharing,. My kind of girl ! Nice horse.
The 'Jackpot Jerkers', WONDERHUSSY
You’re a real hoot, Sarah!
Thank you great videos that take us away from the craziness of the world! Much love from Mesquite ❤️ 😎✌️🇺🇸
👍👍👍JackPot was one of my grandparents favorite places to go and gamble. Cactus Pete has acquired a fair sum of my family inheritance!!! I always enjoyed picking up lunch at the store in jackpot and having a picnic at the little rest stop just south of the town!! Pretty little spot right next to a creek. 👍👍👍
My grandparents loved it there too! They used to travel and hit up all the little casino cities in Nevada ☺️ Looking at all her collected hotel bathroom cups and stuff was one of my fav things to do lol
Was it Trout creek east side of 93 nice hunting for trophy mule deer ,actually both sides beautiful country to see UNR Campus study area .. 👍😸💪🙏✌️🖖✨💎🌎
Thanks for showing us these small unknown places has people like me from uk etc would never see these places without people like u .
Works the other way 'round as well. My son lives in Exeter, Devon. Hope I get to see him again on this side of the veil.
The jackpot Budweiser horse never looked better!
Went to Jackpot once in the winter.........lots of snow. Brrrrrrr
Don't forget Wendover Nevada for the Northern Utah folks. It is pretty interesting being by the Salt FLats and a old Army base that was used for training for dropping the first Atom bomb.
Wendover is a nice little Nevada-style border town. Used to stop at the Peppermill there sometimes. Historically significant town and Army airfield during WWII, as you mentioned.
Only you could make Jackpot a total event! Actually, like you I love these out of the way little towns for their basic weirdness, like Trona, Hawthorn, NV, to name a couple I've spent some time in. Love your upbeat, fun kind of take on the places you visit.
"Cement slab foundation, FANCY!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 YOU'RE TOO MUCH!!!
I played on the Trona football field back in the 80’s
They watered it and steam rolled it between quarters.
I almost bought a home there, Almost. After that earth quake, I got the heck out of there, but before I left, those hamburgers were absolutely amazing.
Oh man. Stayed in Jackpot while driving from WA to AZ back in December. Effin' cold!
I'm surprised the single cop in town doesn't pull you over for casing the town.
She didn't look like Rambo. Rambo is all sorts of trouble. Wonder Husdy, no problemo.
Maybe that was really the point of the video?....She is going to.....ahem.....hit a Jackpot in the casino.....and when I say Jackpot....I mean rob it....muahahaha....now we have thwarted her plan hahaha.....
I passed through there when I was training to be a truck driver last year. I love these little desert towns and I live near Trona, which is RIdgecrst.
wonder Wednesday my favorite day
Jackpot Jaguars is the schools mascot......what do I win?
My mom lived and worked there many years ago… when I visited once, she showed me a hot spring just west of town, on private property, and I enjoyed a good long soak in a good sized, and deep pool
A whole video on a small trailerpark casino bordertown? Only Wonderhussy can make it interesting! :-)
PixelPeter I've often said to myself that Sarah Jane could make watching paint dry interesting,
@@scottfrederick4457 Not sure about paint, but she sure would be able to make something of growing grass!
That is the Salmon Falls Dam. The dam was the third-largest dam in the world at the time of its construction (1910).
Cool. I looked it up. It said the dam doesn't hold as much water as they thought because it's built from lava rock so it leaks!
I married my second wife in Jackpot at the justice of the peace. I love it there.
It freaked me out looking down!
Sarah be careful . I been there and we found old houses , but had pioneer Roses, yellow roses , and Wood tick in those old Buildings.
A casino I used to work at owned Cactus Petes... 🌵 Thank you for another great adventure.
My grandmother, who was from southwest Oklahoma, taught 1st & 2nd grade in Jackpot from sometime in the late 60s to her retirement in 1982. Cactus Pete’s hosted a retirement party for her to show the town’s gratitude because no other teacher had ever stayed there for more than a year or two. During the time she was there the school only taught grades 1 - 8. All the high school kids had to take the daily 70 mile bus ride down to Wells. And, of course, the 70 mile ride back as well.
@@rachelle9163 yes ma’am, that was her. She was very proud of her tenure in Jackpot and cherished her memories of the children she taught there.
She was my 1st &2nd grade teacher I remember her living right by the school and she would always have a student take milk to her mom during milk 💔
@@twilakazzee2811 thank you for that memory! My great-grandmother passed in 1983 at the age of 96. She drank a cup of milk every day right up to her last day.
1:35 Looks like the dam on Salmon Falls Creek, and the Salmon Falls Creek reservoir backed up behind it. Been there a number of times for fishing, camping, and exploring the area. Salmon Falls Creek runs North out of Nevada and into Idaho, which, as you know, is where the dam and reservoir are. Been to Jackpot more times than I cared to keep track of. Used to fly a Cessna 182 or a Piper Cherokee Arrow down there once in a while - made the trip a lot shorter. The runway at Jackpot can be challenging on hot days (density altitude issue), but it's also a lot of fun! Nice to see you made it into the Gem State, if only by a handful of miles. The mobile homes are where most of the casino employees live, although a number of them commute to and from Twin Falls, which is the closest CITY to Jackpot (45 miles North). Rogerson is just a few miles north of the dam. They actually have a couple of gas stations there and a few groceries. There also is (or used to be, anyway) a pretty cool wildlife museum on the East side of the highway before you get there, accompanied by a gas station/convenience store. The nearest Indian Reservation is at Duck Valley, where the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes stay. The outdoor stadium is for entertainment events. They get some fairly big-name showbiz types in to play that venue sometimes, although they're mostly the "golden oldie" crowd, or the occasional current or recent Country Music entertainer(s). Rogerson was where the stagecoach (or wagon) came from that was robbed down around Jarbidge by the estimable Mr. Kuhl. back in 1916. Stay safe out there.
Another great video!
Last time I was there, they have an airstrip right behind the Casino. Landed there.
TINY TIM was the entertainment, could hear him singing thru the walls. All of the wait staff was from Russia......
School mascot? Easy, The one armed bandits!
Girl what were you thinking sitting on the precipice of that giant dam
WH, watching your videos plants a big smile on my face, as I start listening and watching another unique WH tour …..your videos are the only videos that doesn’t stress one out to listen …stay safe kiddo
Thanks for taking us along.
You nailed it, Jackpot Jaguars....
I lived and worked there form 1994 to 2014. Good place and good people.
Im hooked in your channel! Such a smart beautiful and exciting person!! I love going on your adventures - living vicariously!! All the best!! 🥰
Buzzed that place in F15’s a few times.
Jackpot Jaguars. You guessed correctly.
That is some remote country you're exploring. Thanks for sharing as always!
Only Wonderhuss goes in search of Kombucha and finds Margs in a can 😂😂🍹🍹🍹
That desolate area is called the Owyhee. That is where Claude Dallas evaded the FBI for multiple years. It was a mangling of the name "Hawaii" by the locals years ago.
... The Jackpot Poke-A-Tell-0's .. !!
Cactus Pete's is GREAT! My first trip thru there was in 90s. It has grown.
I Just Love Wonderhussy Wednesdays!!!
Enjoy your travels. Went to Joshua Tree twice this year. Went to Giant Rock and the Integratron. Love the deserts of California. I'm from Texas and didn't know you guys had deserts and snow-capped mountains next to each other. Love your trips. You're so cute and tiny but smart and adventurous. Keep it up
I was performing there with the Herb McQuay band on the morning of 911. Jackpot was a regular stop for most Nevada casino musicians and I played there on and off from 1977-2001.
I actually had great times there and met some really great people, as well as some ‘very’ friendly women….
WonderWookie pretty scary sitting on the edge. Ya brave.
Waaaah Waaahh.. no Jackpot YARD SALE??... OMG Im devastated
Damn, that’s some dam 😂
One of the urinals in the men’s room is The Rolling Stones lips. Use your imagination. There’s a back way from Wells nice road which crossed the California trail. Signs in the middle of nowhere. Gives a small glimpse of what it must have been like in the day
Great video. My mom lives there and I'm thinking of moving there but I have never explored the town. Thanks for letting us tag along in your adventure!
Yikers! I'm so glad you gave us that warning to take back control of one's ummm.. errr sphincter, Sarah! 🤣 Cos when you cut to that next scene looking down, if I hadn't regained control of the afformentioned body part, there seriously would've been some mess to clean up at my place and I'm not talkin' about the dishes! 😆Love your world! 😊
Good one Sarah! All of those little one horse towns have a story to tell!
Thanks
You look spectacular in your red white and blue by the Clydesdale. Wow
From the looks of the place, not many people in Jackpot have hit the jackpot! Try some Heineken 0.0, it tastes like beer with no alcohol in it. Senior Class had 14 students.
I love going to Jackpot Nevada especially that little grocery store that you’re going to go into every time I drove through there I made it a point to stop there
Wow great views and always a good video from you, Sarah.
Thanks for the video! I've camped overnight several times around Jackpot when driving across the country. It's a long day's drive from home for me. You gave a good perspective on the area. I've thought about detouring through Jarbidge sometime but so far I haven't wanted to take the extra time. I expect to be passing through Jackpot again next month. Best wishes to you "Wonderhussy."
Oooh, WH…I do adore you, honey!!! Yes, Jackpot looked a bit Smokey! 😷. But you, my dear, stuck it out!!!! Why??? Because you can!!! You are a trailblazer, if I ever saw one ☝️!!! Thank you 🙏 for being you! Nothing more, nothing less! 💗.
Wonderhussy go to Parkfield California in Southeastern Monterey County. Parkfield is the Earthquake Capital of the World. The most studied location for seismological activity in the world. A trip to Parkfield would be a unique experience for you and intriguing for your followers. 🙂🌎
Another interesting place !!!!! Take Care and Stay Safe Wonderhussy!!!
Interesting! BTW- In his best selling book, "The Last Mafioso', written by Ovid Demaris, L.A. mobster Jimmy (The Weasel) Fratianno, recommended to his attorney friend, Billy Marchiondo, that Billy buy a small casino in tiny Jackpot. This recommendation was made way back in 1976. Billy ended trying to do a casino deal in Las Vegas--but it never worked out. Billy was a successful attorney--he passed in 2015 at age 87....
Many years ago stayed overnight in Wells NV and next day drove through Jackpot on our way to Montana.
There is Nat-Soo=Pah hot springs not too far from Jackpot if you're ever in the neighborhood again. Neat place-all the amenities-nobody ever goes there. Jackpot just got their own pot dispensary, too! Oh, joy!
Wonder Hussy you turn a tour through a tiny border town funny and entertaining. Thanks and happy travels.

17:19 🤯🤩😍Guaranteed that is the happiest day in that float’s existence.
Jackpot is a company town, and I've been told most of the housing is owned by the casinos.
The town is trying to diversify away from gambling, hence the 'Golf Course subdivision' in the Monte Carlo Drive area intended to attract out of state retirees. It's a challenge to find a Nevada-ticketed contractor willing to build in Jackpot, which explains the preponderance of mobile and modular homes.
Well, Well, Well"! Idaho's My home State. You didn't stay very long"!😉🤗🌠💜🌠💜🌠💜🌠💜🌠💜🌠💜
I'm really glad I found your channel, love your videos
Oh wow, That's the road to Jarbidge. I was there about a month ago! Yeah, that dam was spooky to cross. Very cool spot though.
we've camped at that reservoir a few times. great little campground, nice sites. lots of moles, voles, mice or something running around at night, lots of birds circling and diving around the dam. It's funny how that reservoir water is seeping out around where the dam is keyed into the rock.
Hey Wonderhussy your content is first class! Your wanderlust definitely deserves 200K+ subscribers. I hope to see you randomly some day as I’m a Utah’n close to Nevada .Thanks for sharing.
I am Canadian (Alberta) and wish that I could travel south. Thank You for such an interesting and enjoyable video. I really do admire your skills in what you do. Very entertaining to say the least!
Travel wherever you want. I live a little outside of Vegas and our town fills up with people from Canada all winter long. It doesn't bother anyone.
@@TheBandit7613 Alberta border is close south to America, otherwise I would and we have a big problem with covid here.

Happy Birthday in one week. xxxx
Thanks, Wonder hussy, you have inspired me to stop coffee, now maybe i can inspire you to stop alcohol. Try it, i feel much better. Much love and respect.

I love your narration of Jackpot, got me smiling 🙂
I have spent night in that town, Jackpot, a few times over the years traveling back and forth between Vegas and Boise
Thanks for sharing my local backyard. Grew up in the area and we would cliff dive off the rocks at Salmon Reservoir.
An odd fact is that Jackpot observes Mountain time even though it's officially in the Pacific time zone.
That RV at the 14 minute mark? They're referred to as "Super"class C motorhomes. They're built on various medium truck chassis like Ford F650, Freightliner, and Kenworth. Upwards of 45 feet long, they are mostly aimed at the $$$$ end of the RV market as they're shockingly expensive - i wouldn't be surprised if the one you saw cost close to a half a million dollars.
For real. They have a big RV dealership near us, and some of those outfits cost in the 250K range, or more!😵
So the rich people of Jackpot live in the RV park? Wonderhussy was barking up the wrong street I guess. I want to get one of those RV's, only used and less than $100K like they get in 5 years or more old. Those people probably bolt from town in the winter its cold there.
You should check out Wendover... Where all the Utah heathens go to have fun lol
You're fun to watch , thanks, ! ! !
All that fresh produce on offer, in the middle of nowhere....
We should all give thanks to those brave truckers that serve us, 24/7, 365 🇺🇲.
