In all of the excitement over this car I forgot the most IMPORTANT difference! 755 horsepower compared to the Z06 650 horsepower made possible due to a bigger supercharger!! 😬 Keep sending me pictures of your rides! Love to see these beauties and we all get to know each other better! 👍👍
The 755 BHP is "In worst case environmental conditions", to quote Tadge Juechter, Chiel Engineer for Corvette. For example in Quito Ecuador at 9,350 Ft ASL, with an OAT of 98F and the humidity near 100% it will still make 755 BHP. Whereas at seal-level with an OAT of 59F and a relative humidity of say 50% it makes far more than 755 BHP. Try 840-850 BHP, as measured on an engine dyno, vs a chassis dyno which measures RWHP and thus takes into account drivetrain loss. Remember, we're talking about air breathing engines. Hence colder, and thus denser air, requires more fuel in order to maintain the proper air-fuel ratio. Therefore, more fuel and more air means more horsepower. And forced induction, be it turbocharging or supercharging simply forces more air into the engine. That means more fuel is needed in order to maintain the proper air-fuel ratio. What is the proper AFR? It depends. Is it an economy car? A sports car? A track only race car? Does it have to meet environmental emissions standards? Whose? What state or country? Electronic Fuel Injection has largely replaced mechanical injection since it's far more precise and can be calibrated to deliver the proper amount of fuel in order to meet both performance requirements as well as emissions and CARB standards*. Hence the C7 ZR1 for example is capable of phenomenal performance, while still meeting EPA and CARB requirements. Something that can't be accomplished with a carburetor. *Primarily California, where it's the law, although New York, Rhode Island, Washington, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, New Jersey and Massachusetts have also adopted the CARB standard.
Although Electronic Fuel Injection better supports an engine which makes more power it doesn't necessarily result in the engine making more power. In fact carbureted engines can make more HP than the same engine when equipped with fuel Injection. However, EFI allows for more precise fuel control, which is needed for emissions and CARB certification (where applicable) for example.
As you said, given the level of performance these cars are capable of one must be adept with a M/T. By that I mean one must be confident in their heel/toe downshift technique for example. You don't want your foot to slip off the brake pedal while in the braking zone at some 'HOLY S***T!!' speed, lest you want to do some 'agricultural work' with your car. ;)

Can't wait for an in depth comparison for the performance numbers, like top speed, 1/4 mile, road course lap time, weight etc. Also zr1 doesn't overheat at road course track at all? for auto and manual?
Dude I dig your style of video. You seem like a guy I would hang out with. Buying my first corvette in next couple of months. Budget is 60k so no zr1 c7 . Going to drive z06 and stingray z51 and make a decision. Keep up the good work
Great review Justin. 1. Does the ZR1 come with DOT4 brake fluid? 2. We always hear about amount of down-force fore and aft. Just wondering, how does GM measure down-force? I know how I do it and in my latest configuration I have twice the down force that I used have. I have the scale to prove it. 😊 I can even increase my down-force on a moments notice. Ten minutes at any Olive Garden and I'm good to go, but the amount of increase will depend on the specific track I'm going on. 😊 Obtaining less down-force is not quite as easy. ☹️ 3. As to options, I'm a little surprised that the ZR1 didn't come standard with Carbon Fiber wheels, or least offered as an option for less rotating mass. 4. Maybe it looks different in person, but the ZR1 badging kinda looks like ZR with the Pi symbol and sometimes looks a little like ZR11. 5. Going back to options, could the ZR1 have been ordered with a complete body-colored roof? 6. Are the front wheels 10" like your ZO6, or 10.5"? That's it for now, but the evening is still young. lol Save the Wave.
Thanks, Peter! The ZR1 DOES in fact come with DOT4 fluid. They measure the downforce in the wind tunnel with tools outside the realm of my understanding. With all the carbon fiber the car has I'm a little surprised it wasn't an option myself but they ARE forged aluminum and CAST aluminum on the Z06 which basically means the ZR1 wheels are stronger and lighter than the Z06's wheels. The R is kind of cut off in the badging, it looks awesome in person but unless you know what it says I could definitely see it being confusing. The ZR1 can be ordered in a "dual roof" package meaning one is the carbon fiber we see here and the other is the transparent, I don't think a solid body color was an option. Front wheels are 10.5. Half inch wider on the ZR1 than the Z06.
Thanks Justin. I think if I had the where withal to order a ZR1 I would have specked it out just like D's, but I'd also get the see-through roof and have it painted and separately order a head liner to install with it. I'm just not a fan of see-through roofs. Also, I think I would order a low-wing just to have it. In the future, I'm sure neither wing will be obtainable from GM, which quite possibly may already be the case. As to the C7 ZO6, would the ZR1 supercharger bolt on to it? If so, would that in itself provide another 100hp? Also, I know the ZR1 front end is wider than the ZO6, but I'm guessing that's accomplished purely with the fenders. If so, I wonder if the ZR1 hood would fit on the ZO6? One could create a rather interesting modded ZO6. I also figured out how you can double your rear down force. When you go to the track. Bring JT with you and put him in the storage area. 😊 Sorry JT, the devil made me say it.
@@petercarey6883 🤣🤣 that creates downforce and extra weight though! The supercharger would bolt on but I don't think it would work quite the same due to tuning, etc.
YOOO, that guy asking for a ride to the airport, saying "You have 3 corvettes, I'm just saying" like a ride should be justified is unreal. 😂 I'm glad you kept that gentleman in the video!! 🤣 Reminds me of the time I was walking past a guy and he clears his throat, and almost in a rehearsed manner, tells me this story of how his family perished in a house fire, and now he's homeless and trying to recover, so he wanted exactly $8.75 Yes, $8 & 75¢! I said nah, I'm good, and he told me "Really, you don't help a man who just lost his home & family in a fire? What kinda 💩 is that?" EDIT: I wrote this comment right away, before seeing it was an act, but I 100% believed it.
I've own dozens of cars and always insisted on manuals. After having no choice but the ZF-8 in my Jag, I reluctantly have to admit if I had to choose now I'd choose the ZF automatic. Reason: winning is more fun than shifting, its that simple. But there's also 29 mpg highway crusing in 8th at 1200 RPM with dyno'd 650 hp (slight tune).
Here's the interesting thing: I just watched a video by Track Day TV where he determines whether or not the 2019 Z06 with the A8 still overheats. Guess what? It does, but not as you'd expect. In fact, it's the transmission that overheats, not the engine oil/coolant. So............... given the following: "As for the transmissions, the ZR1 uses the same 7-speed manual and optional 8-speed automatic on offer in the Z06, the transmissions are mechanically identical, right down to the final drive ratio." Has Chevy really fully addressed the overheating issues with the C7 "performance variants" of the Corvette (i.e. Z06 and ZR1)....uh............it doesn't seem so?????
The problem has been solved with the ZR1 but not the Z06. the biggest reason the ZR1 solved it is the extra coolers that are provided with the car as well as the front bumper being much more opened up for airflow. The Z06 doesn't have enough air flow or radiators to keep that eight speed auto cool.
I’m back watching all of your C7 content because GM potentially priced me out of the C8Z. When you get your C8Z, please touch on difference in driving experience and whether the additional cost is worth it over the C7Z. Thanks Justin. I’m totally crushed by GM and their pricing.
Yes they are. The fronts are slightly wider because the fender was redesigned to be wider instead of using the "spat" that GM used on the Z06 fender to artificially widen it. This was only done because the ZR1 has a 10.5" wheel in the front compared to the Z06's 10" wheel.
Its a whole lot more than the visual and larger supercharger. The crank itself is different as is the addition of the fuel injection system. The fuel management system that was recently un hackable is a extremely complex addition that adds fuel or takes it away when it reads barometric pressure. This was the part that was suspect of proper calibration. Both cars are engineering masterpieces that have still not been fully explored in capability in my opinion. The suspension calibrations on both cars are just WAY too important to be left out of consideration in high speed track handling.
There is a smaller spoiler there with brackets that goes down to the chassis that would prevent you from putting a Z06/Z07 package wing on the ZR1 unless you pulled the rear off and detach those brackets. Additionally, GM put out a service bulletin (18-NA-112) stating to never take off the wing or swap low for high wing because it will adversely affect the car at higher speeds. static.oemdtc.com/TSB/MC-10137548-9999.pdf So it's safe to assume that if its not recommended to swap high with low wing...it's definitely not a good idea to swap with a Z07 package wing.
Hi brother..happy for you to swap from zo6 to zr1..yet i want an advice from you..im now aiming to buy either 2019 zo6 auto or zr1 auto.. my demand is comfortable ride on street without any humbing or vibration or stifness ride also without any stearing problem as pushing you to right side or left side with being straight on road.. i dont track my cars.. but i do race on streets with friends of mine.. i will buy the zr1 the same package you bought with the big wings behind.. so which from the both will give me what i want ! The zo6 or zr1 ! Thank you brother
Thank you. If both are 19's then honestly either one will give you that. They both have a very similar suspension setup and D'Anthony's ZR1 felt smoother than my 2015 Z06 because of the updated GM magnetic ride control.
@@HorsePowerObsessed hi bro and thanx alot for replying.. yet i was wondering howcome the zr1 has smooth ride more than zo6 when the zr1 suspension is more stiffer than zo6 ! So riding an zr1 is more fun than zo6.. this means u arent regret from swamping from zo6 to zr1
@@rashedmoon4805 I don't regret it at all. The ZR1 with the ZTK package is almost identical suspension wise to the Zp6 I had with the Z07 package. the 2015 I had did not have the magnetic ride update so it definitely felt stiffer than the ZR1.
Mine is a 2015 and has NO cooling issues. The manual transmission cars didn't really have a problem with overheating in any year but it was partially fixed for the autos in 2017 and up.
GM tried to fix the 2017 Z06 but without success, it’s better but still not fixed. The manual is better than the automatic for overheating but both cars did and still overheat in hot track conditions, no matter the year. The bigger problem is that GM will void all of the factory warranty if an owner tries an aftermarket fix. It’s sad that GM miss engineered the cooling system to such a great degree and sold the C7 Z06 as a track car. The other flaw are the wheels which crack easily even when driven on the street. There’s a class action suit for both the overheating problems as well as the defective wheels. So $5K for a set of fordgeline wheels and you can drive your car anywhere except the track on hot days.
Max Fly ...mine is a 2017 Z06 and it does overheat on hot days at the track on a regularly. But it’s the most incredible car prior to when it overheats.
JMos,...so when, your car overheats, do you drive straight back to the pits, and start drinking cold ones...like water...How many laps can you do, before this happens or convert to track time...even with the different super charger upgrades...Whats Chevy saying to fix it?... sorry it has to happen, damn. Will a 14 StringRay, overheat on a closed track? It hasn't yet in Az. city traffic...lol...I might have to keep my c7 on the street only, with only 10k miles & A6...thx..I hope you can find a fix for yours and others.

That's it for now, but the evening is still young. lol
Save the Wave.
"Extra weight?" Let's be kind, it's known as "ballast." 😊
@@petercarey6883 🤣🤣
YOOO, that guy asking for a ride to the airport, saying "You have 3 corvettes, I'm just saying" like a ride should be justified is unreal. 😂
I'm glad you kept that gentleman in the video!! 🤣
Reminds me of the time I was walking past a guy and he clears his throat, and almost in a rehearsed manner, tells me this story of how his family perished in a house fire, and now he's homeless and trying to recover, so he wanted exactly $8.75
Yes, $8 & 75¢!
I said nah, I'm good, and he told me "Really, you don't help a man who just lost his home & family in a fire? What kinda 💩 is that?"
EDIT: I wrote this comment right away, before seeing it was an act, but I 100% believed it.
lol yeah that's my friend he's constantly coming up with little skits like this but I hear ya. I've had real stuff like that happen before too.
They're both absolutely awesome in equal measure and unlike exotica it's not like trying buy a flight to another solar system.
Lol exactly! 😊👍
Beautiful cars. Insightful report. I'll take the ZR1 please.
Thank you. I decided to take the ZR1 myself 😁👍
So unless I just missed it, I didn’t hear you talk about the motor and trans. Are they the sam?
Trans is the same, engine has a different supercharger and some slightly different internals.
Impossible to do a video outside without wind noise. It's been a windy year!
Agreed. It's insane!
I’m back watching all of your C7 content because GM potentially priced me out of the C8Z. When you get your C8Z, please touch on difference in driving experience and whether the additional cost is worth it over the C7Z. Thanks Justin. I’m totally crushed by GM and their pricing.
I will definitely do that! I will still have loads of c7 content coming either way as well. Still love that platform!
JT killed me😂😂😂
He's a funny guy!
Fantastic video, I loved comparing the two cars side by side! Can you put the ZR-1 rotors on the Z06?
Thank you! Yes you can, they are a direct bolt on. Only difference is the compound used.
The rear fenders are the same width right? They just widened the fronts on the ZR1? Great video btw 👍🏻
Yes they are. The fronts are slightly wider because the fender was redesigned to be wider instead of using the "spat" that GM used on the Z06 fender to artificially widen it. This was only done because the ZR1 has a 10.5" wheel in the front compared to the Z06's 10" wheel.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks for the info sir I appreciate it! And keep up the good videos
Thank you! I appreciate that. I'll do my best!
Good shout-out 👌👌
Thank you!
Totally agree. I wanted to focus more on the visible aspects of the changes between the 2 cars but there is A LOT more going on under the surface.
has the overheating problem with the Z06 auto been fixed. I am getting ready to upgrade from a stingray
If you buy a manual Z06 then yes, but if it's an auto, then no. This problem would only be noticed on the track under extremely heavy usage anyway.
Can you put zr1 fenders on a zo6?
Love the juliets I still rock mine from 2003
Can you add the Z07 rear wing to a ZR1 if you want to take off the two wing options for the ZR1?
I'm sure you probably could, but it may be a bit involved.
Wow both beautiful cars & do they both have the same chassis?
Yes they do!
Oh yeah.... let’s compare Z06 to Zr1... any day and everyday is CoRVette 😱😱😱‼️

What video camera u use? Fantastic resolution
This was actually a GoPro Hero 7 Black.
Also,Price is a Big Difference too.You can buy a Z06 for well Under $100,000.The ZR1,not a Chance for Now.
Very true. The ZR1 is much more rare as well, though.
Thx Justin,... what year is your Z06, ANY cooling problems? What year did they fix that problem, if you experence it, 2017?...hi Froggy.
So if I drive any yr. c7 z06 on the track, regardless of the air temp., its going to over heat, when I hott lap it?... bummer.
Is it possible to put the ZR1 wing on the z06?
Yes. There are aftermarket companies that make it now.
My dream car is a pastel blue zr1
Great video 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you! 👍👍
I want a zr1 so bad its just perfect lol
It really is! It's without a doubt my favorite Corvette to date.
Can a ZR1 type high wing be installed on a Stingray (2019)?
I'm sure you could but I don't know how hard it would be.
I know the ZR1 spoiler is bolted down to the body of the car. But is it possible to have it removed & replaced with the Z06 spoiler?
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. You could just remove the brackets that are connected to the frame.
You can easily get a Magnuson supercharger for your Z06 and be faster than a ZR1
That red z06 is fucking beautiful, I look the looks way better than the zr1. Figment looks better too
Also the zr1 aero has better cooling and apparently the z06 has this problem and chevy is doing nothing about
That's the reason for the redesigned from bumper, to allow more cooling.
@@HorsePowerObsessed ok i don’t really wanna spend zr1 money simply because i will be daily driving the z06 so ill swap over bumpers
You can make it look very close to a ZR1 with aftermarket stuff!
@@HorsePowerObsessed i will give it a shot
So if i replace my Z06's spoiler and front bumper with a ZR1 front bumper and spoiler...
My Z06 will look like a ZR1?
It would look similar, but the ZR1 front bumper is wider than the Z06 is. Not going to be an easy switch.
Z06 got knee capped by a 1.7l blower, ZR1 was proper, there's your review
Pretty much! 😁👍
What I cannot understand is the fact that why ZR1 is way more expensive than Z06. What accounts for that?
Exclusivity, carbon fiber, r&d for a one year run car.
Well said 👏 ❤
Thank you!
Very partial to ZR one positive on that aspect negative on the Zeos six I think it was very unfair

I just bought a 2016 Z06, and would never buy the ZR1, because of the front bumper changes for increased air flow. Ruins the look of the car
I was hoping for an interior difference
The steering wheel is really the only difference lol
@@HorsePowerObsessed ok that will be noted really appreciate the video also man i have an SRT now but i will be joining the Gm family soon this video gives me a heads up
GM make it hard on themselves couldn't put the same Splitter on both how about the same fenders on both
