I've had the Stinger handle just a few days and I love it. It looks chunky for sure but it's actually a little shorter in height and length than the Kondor Blue handle it is replacing. It really feels nice in the hand and the monitor mounting options with the angles is well thought out. Worth the price for sure.
Still contemplating cages for my c70. I think my biggest gripe with the camera is the location of the HDMI output, since I mostly grip with my right hand and rack manual focus with my left it's not particularly ergonomic or reassuring having the output be that low on the body, even when using a 90-degree adapter.
Yeah I've found the HDMI position a little awkward at times as well. Still hoping Nitze provides a decent clamp. Most of the cages out so far don't have a good solution. Most requires tools or are not there at all.
@@ScottBell It's a bit of a shame, unfortunately it seems to be a bit of a niche issue so my expectations aren't high that someone will make a suitable fix for this.
Thanks for watching. You can make it happen on the Ronin S but the C70 is tough to balance on that gimbal with the camera alone. After upgrading to the RS2 I've gotten more excited about the C70 as I often need gimbal shots for the type of work I do. It was always a dread to pull out the Ronin S.
Thanks for the review! Very helpful! You mentioned that you were able to get the C70 onto the RS2 with this cage. How did you manage to do that? I'm not able to do that even with mounting the QR plate on the right-most ¼ 20 holes. Thoughts?
Hey Ryan, thanks for watching. You need to take off the handstrap to get it far enough to the right. I also have the cage on mine which gives me additional mounting options for the baseplate. I'm using the Smallrig RS2 baseplate as well which maybe gives me a bit more flexibility in the left to right mounting. Hope that helps.
Thanks for watching. I wanted something with NDs and XLRs built into the body. I would have had to go Sony fx6 and didn't like how the audio interface is setup on that camera. I also have a bit of Canon glass so it felt like the right choice.
I recently watched your video on the Zcam E2 and I'm wondering if your opinions have changed since then? I'm currently using BMPCC 4k but I'm finding it hard to haul around to shoots due to form factor and add-ons. I film mostly skiing and soon a MTB Kickstarter campaign. Since you shoot a lot of action sports I figured you would have the beta. Currently looking at zcam e2-f6, canon c70, Sony FS3. Any advice would be great!
Thanks for watching. After shooting with C70 for a year, primarily action sports, I'd say it's a good camera for this activity but not a great one. Biggest downside is a bit of building every time you take it out of your bag. It's minimal depending on your bag setup but still takes some time. It also is a bit vulnerable in the elements. I've been wondering about the Sony A1 as a do it all camera. Personally, I still wouldn't go Zcam but a lot of folks are having good luck with them. The C70 stands apart from the other options you mentioned primarily in the XLR inputs, which is super great if you are doing work that requires multiple audio sources (shotgun and lav). Sometimes I find the image a hair on the soft side but I've started to get used to it and just don't expect to be able to punch into the 4k footage much. Hope that helps!
@@ScottBell Thanks for the input! So you are saying there isn’t a perfect camera!?! Haha. I constantly struggle with professional features and portability. You are always sacrificing something. The Sony system has intrigued me but it’s hard to switch when I have 6 canon EF mount lenses. I have used some Sony mirrorless and find the menus so terrible coming for BM and Canon. Looking forward to following your content. It’s nice seeing a actual working professional then UA-cam guys that only work in that space.
Hey Scott, do you think the Shinobi 7 inch would pose an issue with that exact set up? I'm really hoping it won't get in the way of the shotgun mic, if that's the case i'd opt for the Kondor Blue or if you personally had a sick suggestion of your own i'd also check that out, I don't mind paying extra if it helps out with the 7" monitor!
Hey Chris, I haven't tested it with the Shinobi, hoping to get one in from Atomos to test. That said, I've tried it with the Osee 7" monitor and you can't mount the shotgun mic in the way I have in this video. It just BARELY squeezes by with a 5" monitor. Looking at the Kondor Blue cage you still might run into issues. Good luck!
@@ChrisSchieritz No prob, I think the only way to mount a large monitor and shotgun mic with furry is to offset the monitor significantly from the middle of the rig or go over/under the monitor with the mic. It's a bit tricky but I think you'd have that issue with pretty much any setup. Feel free to hit me up on IG if you want to chat further.
@@ScottBell you’re a legend, I’d hate to off-set the mic too much, your setup is spot on! I’ll have a look if Film Riot has a solution they seem to love their big rigs, I’d certainly consider a 5 inch monitor if I’m completely out of luck but for sure I’ll drop you a message on insta if I find anything ideal!
@@ChrisSchieritz Cool, would be keen to hear what you figure out. I think a magic arm might be the easiest way to deal with it but that's not a rig I would want to tear apart and reassembling throughout a shooting day. I generally reserve my 7" monitor for more studio based shooting.
Hi Scott, great content, I just subscribed to your UA-cam channel because right now I am also planing to become a professional adventure filmmaker, I am just buying all the gear and stuff. But I would like to know one important thing: How about pricing? What is a minute of adventure film worth at an average? Of course it depends on the quality and budget which is put into the film, but maybe you could make a video about the whole moneymaking topic? That would be really awesome. Thank you and keep up your awesome work.
Hey, thanks for watching and subscribing. Glad you like what I'm putting out. Thanks for the video. A few Questions. Can I still put the original Canon right side strap on this cage? Do I buy a Nato plate and screw it on the top, and then add a handle? and lastly what would be best to get support on the left side, like a handle or plate and handle, to avoid interfering with `mic/headphone inputs?
Hey, thanks for watching Laurence. Yes you can put the original strap on the cage, it has slots built into it for the strap. If you want to add a top handle you could buy a Nato rail and Nato handle or use a threaded handle. The left side is a Nato rail so you could attach via that, however it would likely make it harder to access the ND buttons and such. I don't use a side handle but there are threads with ARRI locating pins for whatever setup you want to go with.
@@ScottBell Many thanks Scott ! I have a rig for tripod use, but at a recent wedding I found it hard to use handheld so I was thinking about a support (handle) for the left side. How do you cope handheld. ( I have a feuyutech gimbal but use a different camera on that)
@@laurencegrant2882 I found handheld was pretty shaky without a lens with image stabilization so I recently purchased the 15-35 RF with IS. Otherwise, I find holding the top handle with my right hand and cradling the camera with my left hand works pretty well. I like having a rig that's nearly ready to start shooting straight out of my bag. I only have to reattach my mic and I'm good to go. Adding another thing to put on and take off would get annoying for me. That said, if you are in one location for the day and have the rig built, I could see a side handle being a nice addon.
@@ScottBell Thanks for input. I have the 24-70 RF IS but I am not good at hand held. I will try you system. I do have the Ninja v on an articulated arm and I think the balance isnt right (its hanging over the left side of the camera) so I am thinking...... Nitze cage and handle and my Shinobi as I dont really need to use Pro res backups as I like AVC and Proxy to card B. Should help with a steady footage. The 15-35Rf is on my wish list as well. Yeah it's a solid handle for sure. I like SmallRig's mini handle as it keeps me rig compact for lugging around the forest but both do the job great.
Nice review Scott. I’ve got a different cage coming for my c70 but this looks to be a solid option as well.
Thanks for watching Griffin. What cage did you get?

Do you know if any of the side screw holes will line up with the cameras screw hole on the side of the camera?
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, the screw holes do not align with the mount on the side of the camera.
why did you choose the c70 instead of the Sony fx3? Nice video
