Using a VFE White Horse (something PGS should demo) on compression with a significant bass reduction works pretty well. It's nice because you can add some compression if you want to. I play my guitar through my my mesa bass amp, so it's not a guitar amp, but it is tube break-up. sounds freaking sweet
From what I've heard, they're VERY beefy in person. People even complain about the massive amount of low end being too much for their amps and it sounds mushy.
@JohnJeevasingham It depends. If you place the booster before your overdrive, it will give you a gain boost. If you place the boost after your overdrive, it will ad a volume boost,
@ANIMVL I have this pedal. It's definitely a volume boost. It's just a really, really powerful one. So powerful that it hits the input of your amp with a signal so big it distorts. It is a volume boost though - you just can't tell through the video because it's a youtube video. Play it yourself and then tell me it's not a volume boost.
i love my box of rock. it's a GREAT ac/dc style 'dirty but not distorted' pedal. i use one of these and a BYOC shredder with an double looper pedal to get all the marshall sounds i need :o)
Sounds like a Bad Religion song @ 1:43 you can buy it like Mint/New for $120 just gotta go on craiglist, ebay, etc. I rarely pay Full price for pedals unless its out of print.
if you need a booster try something like the digitech tube overdrive, I used to use the valve distortion as a booster and those low and high eq controls have a ton of impact. The tube overdrive is more simular to the bad monkey, ideal for boosting but 5x better build quality and real true bypass
@tremalow I never thought of it, but you're right....I never hear the same licks or riffs twice either! PGS has the "best" demos to me....more detail and info than others....esp. world music supply....they can be a joke sometimes!
@ASTROAVERY Well yes out of Production would be the correct wording, i just got use to saying out of print and most people understand what i'm talking about. XD I think i might start using out of production, it makes more sense.
Honestly, I wonder if a Xotic BB+ wouldn't be more interesting for me. I often use more creamy tones, such as the woman tone, the bluesbreaker Clapton tone and plexi high gain tones (of course with a good LP). There's only a little difference of price and I'd have all the tones I need in only one pedal. What's your opinion about it ?
Hey Andy, just a proposal for your next blind-eye test. This one against the M.I. Audio Crunch Box... I already own the 2nd and I think it smokes the BoR. But perhaps that's just me...
@jp6l6 The new Xotic BB Preamp MB (Mid Boost) sounds like it might be right up your alley seing as how the tone is a little more flexible with the mid control. They are both great, but I like the BB too.
Hey I was wondering, this pedal sounds awsome. Is the boost-side suitable to crank an allready distorted amp up? I like my amps natural drive, but i love to turn down the gain on my amp and tighten the sound with an external overdrive. Doubting between a cliché TS9, an OCD or the boost side of this, with the distortion side as a bonus...
I think the most impressive thing about these PGS demos is that I dont think i've ever heard andy play the same lick twice.
I love Andy; he always does the best demos, explains everything perfectly, plays with great technique.
Pink Turns to Blue. Awesome.
Wow, haven't heard the old AC/DC Riff Raff in minute. I love that song!

Tatoo :)
Love that song...
i just love the tiny oscillations in the z.vex effects.
Good to know Andy is at my service.
That thing absolutely nails the Riff Raff tone.
Pink turns to blue!
i like the riffs around 4:07-4:20
unbelievable tone at the end! reminds me of a Joe Bonamassa strat tone
it doesn't have as much of a mid hump, but it has more than say a fulltone ocd (which is extremely flat). it does have a ton of bass on tap
Hüsker dü at 3:45 ;-) nice!
From what I've heard, they're VERY beefy in person. People even complain about the massive amount of low end being too much for their amps and it sounds mushy.
He plays this one really cool riff a lot whenever he demos or uses fuzz. I love it, but have no idea what song it's from...
ooooh boy i love this pedal to death! my gf got this for me for xmas (from PGS of course) and its the best distortion pedal i've ever own!
It's actually 2..
The Boost portion is entirely independent based on the SHO circuit..
Riff raff is such a great song
@JohnJeevasingham It depends. If you place the booster before your overdrive, it will give you a gain boost. If you place the boost after your overdrive, it will ad a volume boost,
I like the AC/DCish tone it puts out.. could do with some higher gain though
@ANIMVL

wow actually a great sounding distortion

Riff Raff and Too Hot To Handle! ❤️
so the boost side is a gain boost when the drive channel is on? and a volume boost when its on by itself? cool!!!
Sounds like a Bad Religion song @ 1:43 you can buy it like Mint/New for $120 just gotta go on craiglist, ebay, etc. I rarely pay Full price for pedals unless its out of print.
@TacooGrill no its not its just a volume boost
i hate the drive sound of box of rock so i use this one a booster for clean and gain boost
and it work perfectly
'Box of Boost'
Box of Rock vs. Wampler Plexidrive would be a good run.

what song is it at 2:45-3:13? I'm loving that last chord!
Future PGS Smackdown: Box of Rock vs Dimed Marshall JTM45

@ProGuitarShopDemos You know, Pro shop guitar!
@edmiglia no this goes before the amp not after
a little late, but you should look at a fulltone plimsoul
Agreed, with mine I had the tone cranked or at 3 o clock because of how mushy it got otherwise. Great pedal though, its fucking loud.
@jp6l6 The new Xotic BB Preamp MB (Mid Boost) sounds like it might be right up your alley seing as how the tone is a little more flexible with the mid control.

hey does this pedal have a mid hump? i play in baritone tuning and am trying to keep my low end in tact (ts9 is killing me) thanks!!
With that volume boost knob can this pedal be used like a power attenuator?
Did I detect a hint of Sparklehorse?
is it all the zvex vexter pedals have a 9v boss power supply in as well as the battery?
I love the Tattoo riff.
@INF3CT3DHAMPST3R I think it is well worth it, though. SHO sparkly clean boost as well as a kickass MSIAB tone, you can't go wrong.
AC/DC RIFF RAFF FTW
Really? I think it is a bargain. Best pedal I ever bought.
Hey Andy, whats the song at about 4:40? Thanks!
i love my box of rock, but it doesn't really sound good at lower gain levels!
any chance of a vexter series wolly mammoth?
yes
Would the box of rock sound good with a solid state amp? Thanks!
What song starts from 3:45?
Wonder want the pedal looks like?
HUSKER DU! YEAH!
nice husker du
@JohnPaulCM Nice save....
Possessed Soul Guitar
how do you active true bypass?
true
@tremalow I know, RIght?
killer!
@lobot666 - PSG?
@AlexWolfking pinch harmonics
"to hot to handle"
hi, is it true by pass???
yes 1:23
RIFF RAFF!!
riff raff!
@ProGuitarShopDemos ProGuitarShop
Um.. so just get the "Super Hard On" Pedal?
tattoo!!!
muy expensivo, even at half the price of the other one
they cost soooo much :(
nice :)
Its an ok Overdrive but its really overpriced
@mrsomewhere666 hahahhahahaha
lul hard on circuit
#1
O_O
Thats not distortion! XD
I kinda want to build a clone of this pedal... Then I'd be shamelessly ripping off a shameless rip-off (Box of Rock) of a shameless rip-off (JTM45).
Or some reason Andy always makes pedals sound horrible, in my opinion.
Riff Raff!!!
RIFF RAFF!!
