The ZVex Fuzz Factory is one of the earliest pedals invented by Zachary Vex and continues to be his most popular. It is the heir to the throne of the classic Germanium fuzz boxes of the past, even using New Old Stock Germanium transistors from the sixties. From this basic concept Mr. Vex went nuts and added an unheard of level of control over all aspects of the tone, including a Gate knob to control noise and tune feedback pitch, Compression control, and a Stability (or "Stab") knob that can send the Fuzz Factory into delicious squeals and oscillations, opening up a pallete of fresh sounds for any adventurous guitar lunatic. The controls are highly interactive and encourage hours of sonic exploration. The Z.Vex Vexter Series Fuzz Factory also features a Green ON / OFF LED, 9VDC power jack, 2-Year Warranty, and lovely silk screened graphics.
In his sleep Andy mumbles "I'm plugged into a Deluxe Reverb Reissue". We haven't used the 65 SoHo in a vid for over a year.
I already own a Fuzz Factory, but watching this video still gives me the urge to buy one...
I want this pedal just because you said "oscillating naughtiness"
i can totally see how this isnt some ppls thing, but holy hell this has to be one of the greatest pedls of all time imo.
You can tell it's on when you're guitar sounds awesome.
The LED on the Fuzz Factory is located above the Stab knob. It's green, which usually doesn't pick up on this camera angle, but you can see it on a dark stage. Thanks,
PGS

Got a Big Muff but really want a fuzz that's 'stranger'... I NEED this.
The fuzzrite and fuzzfactory are probably my favorite fuzzesout there. just because its just soo different from, say like a fuzz face, bender and or muff fuzzes. You can really differentiate your self fron others with these fuzzes imo
What is up with all those weird feedbacks and noisy sounds?... the pedal do that?
Oh my god! I just recieved my pedal from PGS. This pedal sounds just awesome. By far the best fuzzsound I have ever heard!
"Oscillating Sonic Assault", that right there made me want one
I
My friend just got one of these, and it is one of the most impressive effect pedals I've ever seen.
i just got my fuzz factory vs today and i LOVE it. its totally what i've been looking for. it's the holy grail of fuzz boxes.. you can happily spend hours trying different knob positions, fooling around with the ff. although you say fuzz is best used with sc, you can get some awesome sounds with a humbucker guitar like gibson sg. kudos for the awesome review, thats how i've learned about the vexter series, and since i dont have much money i really appreciate this.(so DOES my band ;))
LOVE the sound you get with the stab up high, at the end of a long note.
Me too, definitely the one pedal i've had the most fun with of all. i still find new tones to this day.
I have one and love it. I can get a different sound from it each time I play it. Takes some getting used to. The Vexter ones aren't too expensive used
i bought one like two weeks ago and it arrive today (because i live far from US)
its incredible, you always can avoid oscillation turnig drive/stab down and some of the settings even with the stab all the way up it doesnt ocillate atleast for me it ocillates when i want. the tone is awesome
@osblablabla - Have a look at the manual and some of the settings we use in the vid. ZVex also has a good demo on his site. There are plenty of "safe" normal fuzz settings with no squealing. You will need to master the use of the gate, comp, and stab knobs. They are highly interactive.
One of the best fuzz pedals with the best review
@aququa - We've had the same experience. We've found that the Fuzz Factory reacts differently, often in a more "well behaved" manner, when it sees a buffered input signal. If you have other buffered pedals in your signal chain, this is likely the issue. We would try moving the FF around in your pedal lineup, perhaps at the beginning, so it receives an unbuffered input signal directly from your guitar. Hope that helps. Thanks!

At the beginning of plug in baby he uses the built in fuzz factory on his guitar, but after playing around with my own fuzz factory I'm pretty sure what hes playing around with are the compression knob with the gate turned to the left. You play one note and then mess with those and it sounds pretty cool
This is the second one I checked out and damn I'm in love.
No further searches required.
Some pretty huge tones coming from this thing!
@handmajor - Wahs and fuzz pedals often don't get along. You might try a newer Fulltone Clyde, RMC, or another wah with "fuzz-friendly" buffer circuitry built-in. Thanks!

Pro Guitar Shop does the very best gear demos on the planet. I always thouroghly enjoy watching your ViDs even on the gear I have no interest in. Thanks for creating them and posting them.
@kriszpaul - We use a Royer R121 on the cab and a Shure KSM27 in the room. No compression on the track, just a couple dB of limiting on the master buss from the L2 Ultramaximizer.
@d3athfromabove - When it dies out mid-note like that it's the gate kicking in. Try rolling back the gate a bit, and experimenting with the compression level. Should give you a longer sustain. Thanks!

Yes, I do want to blow up my speakers. Thanks for the heads up.
Andy you are the best man!! I just bought this pedal based on this review and it is just amazing Thank!!!!!! Again.
Vaguely reminiscent of the DOD Buzz Box. I bought one of those around 1994 or so and have never looked back!
@Alienpelvis86 - The FF will do that at any volume if you have the knobs in the right spot.
This looks so sick! The future of fuzz!
well matthew bellamy of muse use one of this to play nirvana riff or outros
Im getting my fuzz factory for my birthday woooooooooooooooo
6th august
Thanks for all andy your the best guitarrist in the world for your fault I spend all the day watching your videos
I just bought a EH Big Muff with Tone Wicker... damn it... This thing is insane.
Great pedal, especially for a 7 or 8 string guitar. Also, it is fantastic for a Deftones-type sound.
@Musicman1413 It certainly does, top right hand corner, in between the DRIVE and STAB knobs.
This is a Fuzz Face pedal with some cool mods
rly rly rly luv this pedal xD
one of the best stompboxes ever made
killer demo and it sounds good but this pedals sounds much better without a power supply and instead using a cheap Chinese battery! that's what Mr. Vex says!
@xelosign - PGS Custom Background Music by Andy's assistant, Jamie.
@bigmike00831 - It can definitely do some distortion-type sounds, but they tend towards warm and fuzzy. You'd probably still want to hang onto your DS-1 if you want a more modern chunky tone.
I want it now! Do you except an arm and a leg?
So crazy! This even makes the Big Muff look tame.
@ProGuitarShopDemos thx a ton you guys are amazing!
Well, if that isn't the damndest thing I ever heard! Wow!
Ok, I need this.
Diggin' the Supergrass
I used to use this pedal on stage but the pedal had too much oscilation with a 100 watt amplifier, and the people who were listening would hear nasty spikes. People told me that the sound of the pedal was too noisy. So I only used this pedal on my 40 watt amp at home, and use my Little Big Muff Pi on stage.
my neighbours will kill me if i would get one of those....
@hondansx1000 The only difference is one is silk screened (Vexter version) and one is hand painted (green). The Vexter is much lower in price.
PGS Crew
No Muse in a fuzz factory demo? That must of been extremely hard to pull off. I am impressed.
Always hated fuzzes ... thank you PGS for making me love them and ripping my wallet I love you so much guys :D
reminds me of the fuzz solo on Salute Your Solution by the Raconteurs
You may want to look into replacing your cables, cleaning your inputs and outputs, or something along the lines of general maintenance... I have a whammy and the vexter FF running with 3 other pedals and I've never had signal issues...
@zedaabelheira it can operate on 9v battery as well
Really awesome fuzz!
second that... absolutely true.. in fact hendrix also put his wah before the fuzz.
Cool. I just had some flashbacks!
Amazing sound!!!!
Wonder how does it going to sound with bass... ? : ]
Love the video, thanks for the upload! Just one quick question, are you running any kind of sustainer at and around 5:04 for those oscillation sounds? Or is that all from the ZVex?
Thanks
@ferchomdo61 if you put the wah before the fuzz the wah will act more as a boost with a light sweep. If you put the wah after the fuzz, the wah will have a wider sweep but youll lose volume when its on..
i've wanted that for ages.. still havent got it tho
dude, nice tones. Just ordered one off've ebay (secondhand, I can't afford anything from your website in first hand good condition at this moment unfortunately, extremely sorry). But yeah, I appreciate all of your videos so much, I promise you I will someday make a big load of pedal purchases, including a rotovibe and some volume pedal and possibly a Malekko 616 analog delay :D Anyway, love your videos. Keep 'em coming.
@ChrisieBear14 either play, cause the squealing "tries" to overcome the sound of you playing. as mentioned in the vid. or you play around with the comp and gate knobs. just experiment. this pedal wont make you happy unless you're eager to experiment and play around with the knob positions to find your favorite sound.
this pedal sounds so cool. would this be good for Smashing Pumpkins kind of stuff???
Hey Proguitarshop, an excellent demo as usual, i was wondering before i buy this pedal, whats the difference between the z vex normal pedal and the newer series pedal. Thanks alot!
hey i got my fuzz factory pedal not to long ago and when i turn it on it only makes the noice what do i do???
i need this. i need it bad.
@robsmith000, yes you can hook it to the Me-70. Any pedal works with it.
plz can you tell me how you make that sound from 0.01 to 0.18 is that the pedal or a technique ? ... Furthermore can you tell me if this pedal has got a tone knob cause i like it very much and i am thinking of buying one :)
Sweeeeet pedal! Gotta get it!
So cool!
pgs, what wah would you recomend to use with this pedal? i have tried a crybaby and a morley and neither have worked out very well with this pedal
this is the only pedal i use, besides a volume pedal. if you have it set where he does at 4:10 and crank the gate fully counter-clockwise, it's the fattest lead tone ever.
I was thinking about getting a Fender Blender for crazy, out of control fuzz, then I saw this :D
@ProGuitarShopDemos thanks for the tip
Zvex is good shit. some magic in those pedals.. I've got the Box of Rock & it screams !
you gotta love Supergrass!
think this pedal could work for a bass guitar ? looks like a nice diverse range of fuzzy goodness.
hi i recently bought a the vexter fuzz factory and was very satisfied but i have one problem with it (not even sure its an actual problem with the pedal) when i do a bend and substaine for more than a couple of seconds it glitchs out and the volume dies. this is the setting on the pedal where i found it more pronounced (vol 10 gate 2 comp 9 drive 5 stab 10 ) the rest of my gear is a vox ac15c1 and a standard american strat (vol maxed /neck tone around 7 and bridge at 6).
i meant url that goes directly to the page that the pedal is on
Also, how well does this thing work with humbuckers and P-90's?
part of the fun is guessing! :)
@wilco6565 pretty sure the other difference is that the hand painted ones come with a lifetime warranty. Which explains the price difference.
Whats the diffference between the normal fuzz factory and the vexter series fuzz factory. except the paint job? or is it the same monster?
Is it possible to get Vintage fuzz tones from this pedal?
Pretty awesome, pretty awesome XD
i have it, it is GOOOOOD!!
6:10 sounds like a saxophone!!
What's the size of this pedal?
Qual é o tamanho desse pedal?
dear Proguitarshop!! how do you record these clips, what microphone is used? is there any compression on the signal? i'm really interested because this one sounds thanks amazing!
somewhere around a cell phone, but about an inch in height
Fuzz/wah placement matters. I find that fuzz AFTER the wah sounds horrible. But wah before the fuzz has great magic.
I want this SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad.
What guitar was used in the vid?
This pedal looks great, and I'm definitely going to buy one. However, I wish it had an LED light to let you know when the pedal is on.
Might not be a good place to ask this...
Fuzz probe is good for theremin effects, but basically if the intensity of the effects is set to max, you can use it all the same as a fuzz factory, true?
