There's a few rumors saying Sony will launch the A7V next year so if you already have A7 III I'd also recommend to wait a few more months to make a decision.
thank you so much for commenting on the specs - battery life and overheating. I was ready to jump on the black friday sale price on the a73, but you calmed my excitement down - TY Great video.
@@lilafromyoutube I'm super excited for it! Hope they can add better stabilization, 33MP, 4k60, at least 12 fps, and I would love an upgrade to the autofocus. Here's to hoping!
I’ve just bought an A7 III with an 8000 shutter count for €850. 🐙 I already have an A7S III, so I don’t mind having the A7 III instead of the A7 IV. For photos, the A7 IV would cost at least twice as much as a used A7 III, and it’s not a big deal since I’ll be using it for photography only. What do you think? Maybe after a year, I can swap it for an A7 IV to make it easier to match color science if I shoot A+B cam videos. That’s the main disadvantage of using the A7 III for now. However, I don’t want to wear out the mechanical shutter or body of my A7S III by using it for photos-that’s my main reason for buying the A7 III. Plus, I’m planning to teach my wife how to work with the A7 III and the Sigma 50mm 1.4, so we can offer both photo and video services for events, instead of just videos like I’ve been doing until now.
I think the 30 minute recording cutoff was because of an EU tax that defined a camcorder as anything that records longer than 30 minutes. Has that changed now?
Thank you! I’m going into the creator world and I’m trying to understand why not using an iPhone 😳 I do have the budget for a great camera but I’m not sure what is the advantages of have to carry another camera rather than my phone. Thanks!
I think the biggest issue with the A7 III was the LCD. It displayed colours so poorly and always shifted very much towards red/magenta, you couldn't judge what you do there; on a computer the footage would look totally different than what your LCD gave you. In every other aspect, I think it's still good enough on the whole for most people.
if a7iii had a7c's autofocus (or even a6400's autofocus) it would be THE perfect camera for the price (they go used for 950euros). Recording limit can be removed with firmware hack; it's on github and easy to use a7iv has superior apsc and downscaled 1080p on HDMI out. that 1080p looks insane superior autofocus a tad better low light video you can power it forever from a powerbank or any other USB source a7iii has better video runtime (almost 3 hours, 2h 50min from what I tested) heats up less (but you can fix that with a USB fan connected a powerbank and even 40mm mini fan can cool both cameras, just point it at the back of the sensor (behind the flip screen) is super cheap used, even new ones run for 1500euros from time to time almost half the price of a7iv and in used market, a7iii is half the price of a7iv concerning slowmo: actually davinci's optical flow slowdown works amazing, you can go to 50% speed with almost 0 drop in quality
I hate that the a7iii in 4k doesn't have eye AF only in 1080p. If it had that I might consider to don't upgrade but nope anyway it's a 2018 camera. The a7 IV has incredible AF + 10bit + FLIP SCREEN. And i really love that is 7k oversampled so in post i can clean the noise in high iso and maintain that sharpness. Also hi Lila and thanks for making that video.
Honest question here.. have you undergone any over heating issues with your A7IV in either photo or video mode? I been hearing plenty mixed reviews about overheating and auto shut off. Great video btw! Very helpful
A7iv makes more sense, I've shot myself in the leg in the past with the temperature issues. I had to make excuses and stall the shoot so my stupid camera can cool off. Now I have the BMPCC 6k, but I need to replace my A7rii with A7iv, mainly because of Sony's awesome autofocus. Any recommendations on the best autofocus cameras?
I could make you look so good. Reflector/flag blocking the magenta lights from hitting your face. Larger keylight off to the side with more diffusion and a polarizer to remove the shine
Is it worth to buy A73 in 2025..im new to cameras and want something reliable and better than smartphones in terms of videos. Please help me out. Thanks 👍
What a great video. Did handheld video with my a73 and it was shaky. Did image stabilization in post and it cropped my video too much. Was going to upgrade more for IBIS. Doesn’t sound like a major improvement there. Will stick to my a73 for now. Thanks!
if youre an amateur videographer no it's not worth it. if you are professional and understand the craft to a tee then yes. its a night and day difference with 10 bit.
Good comparison :) Still gonna have to go for the 6700 at some point I guess, and work my way up from that - or just get the new iphone 15 promaxultramega ... :D One thing though, the 25fps in europe-tingy, it really only matters if you have artificial light source(s) in the frame, typically a slightly older or cheap, light, or older fluorescent tubes, they are the worst, since they flicker based on the hertz in the powergrid (50 in europe, 60 in the US++). A lot of newer LED-lights turns on and off so quickly that the power grid refresh rate doesn't matter any more, and my ceiling lights in my workshop, which are very new LED panels don't flicker at all at 24 or 30 or 120 fps recordings. And UA-cam doesn't care what you upload, since they do something to the video anyway to smooth things out before playback, and since "no-one" uses old CRT tv's anymore to watch youtube the whole pal thing is kinda dead (computer screens are usually running at 60 hertz or more refresh rate so they don't matter anyways) - of course, it doesn't hurt to be safe and do 25 fps in europe just in case outdoor and indoor footage is to be mixed. I did a couple of tests on my DIY Diffuser and Keylight that I made a video on, filming 120 and 240 slowmo with it as the only light source, and no flickering :)
Agreed! I shoot in PAL because I don’t see why not. I rarely shoot in 100 fps anyway, let alone 120 fps haha. 25/50 is plenty for me. The iPhone 15 pro (max) looks promising tho but I wouldn’t replace the a7iv with it 😅 which lens are you planning to pair the a6700 with?
The 6700 is almost good enough to make me switch back to APS-C. The reason it isn't is that I'm not a videographer, but that camera is sexy as hell and a beast for video. Probably the best video camera under 2 grand. I am just doing photography and often events/concerts in terrible light so every last bit of low light performance matters.
I use the app to connect to my a6500 then mount the phone under my teleprompter for a monitor. I thought the a7s3 was your go to camera. Are you using the a7s4 now?
I really think these videos should be separate for video and photography. Most of the stuff in this video was about video which I almost never use! I am a photographer, not a videographer . Good video but the title doesn't make it obvious this is mainly for videographers to watch

Pair the A7IV with the 70-200 GM and I think it’ll be perfect for backcountry snowmobiling content!
I used that combo and it’s great! The gen II is fab
@@lilafromyoutube That was my plan. Do you think it’ll be a good focal length for shooting snowmobile riders from 300 meters away?
You have the crop mode so that helps as it essentially gets the lens to 300mm. I’d give it a try
@@lilafromyoutube oh I didn’t even think about that! Good call! See this is why you have such a good channel. You just know things! 😂
Hahaha I try!! It may still be a bit wide because 300 m is far, but I wouldn’t recommend the 200-600. So try 200 or in crop mode at 300
