Yup...got one at Harbor Freight for $50. Put a blue tarp underneath so it would pull easier. Moved 7 tons of gravel with it at about 1800 lbs per load. Worked great and saved so much time...and my back!!
They're $42 at Harbor Freight now and work really well! If you're lucky enough to have a plastic bed liner in our truck bed, you will be happy with it. If you have a sprayed in bedliner, you're not going to be happy. it's too abrasive. If you can find a plastic tarp to put underneath the load handler fabric, it will help.

I would modify the crank end by adding a large nut to the end of the shaft. Use a ratchet and socket instead of your current crank. All your motion could then be downward, holding the tail gate down and using body weight instead of muscle strength. No lifting involved. I have a Snap-On ratchet with a removable head, I acquired a torsion bar from a wrecking yard and turned the end to fit the ratchet head giving me an extra long handle for more power at little cost. Plus it is extremely strong and works well as a longer lever for the ratchet.

I use a heavy ply sheet of plastic under the rolling tarp. This helps reduce the drag and makes it a little easier to crank.

Those are made to be used without a nonslip bed matt , a slippery plastic bed liner works best

Few pushes with shovel and would Not need work as hard And I'd put tarp down bunch sand And grit in gears.
