I am not a Taylor Swift fan but I have ZERO problems with her being “controlling”. It’s her career. It’s her life. She has obviously been extremely successful and other than making good music a huge part of that success is her image. She understands that if she gets associated with alcohol and drugs a massive part of her fan base will disappear instantly. Moms will not support her. They won’t take their daughters to her concert. The music industry is one of the most cutthroat industries in existence and she seems to have tackled every aspect of it like she would a business. Her brand is herself. And just like corporations are protective of their brand’s image, so is she. More power to her.
Her re-recording her music is genius. She wanted control of her music and she didn't want everyone else making money off her music, she couldn't buy it because she got screwed so she worked the system instead of it working her. Kudos. She's killing it musically, she's killing it in business and when the movie industry didn't want to do things her way, she did it herself. And she did all this by focusing on her craft, respecting it,herself and her image. She understood the assignment. She understands healthy boundaries and she's not wrong for steering clear of selena's voluntary and deliberate trainwreck. Selena wants the attention, wants to be a victim in need of salvation. She needs counseling and real self reflection, not this garbage glossy pr puff "documentary".

I used to not care for Taylor to much respectfully and still don’t however i have a friend who’s a super fan and met Taylor at a restaurant. Apparently she was super controlled by her manager and wasn’t allowed to take pictures with any fans or wait staff. I think there’s much more to Taylor’s story we won’t find out until she’s not relevant anymore. I believe the strong girl persona is there to throw people off not saying she isn’t a strong person but the way my friend described it, it felt weird and sinister and her story could be closer to Britney Spears than we could ever know today.
@bethcuz7624 I doubt her situation is anything like Britney's. The vulnerability with which Taylor writes about her thoughts, feelings and experiences tells me she is someone who has control of her own and is in a place where she feels safe to do that and not an exploitative one. But she does follow some strict rules as well that help keep up her image and career but I don't think it's anything like a conservatorship...more like she wants her team to help her keep her limelight and success and cooperates with them willingly.

I’ve been waiting for something like this to be talked about since 2008. I remember distinctly how Selena was social climbing and making sure to be seen/photographed with any newcomer that had a similar fanbase to her (both guys and girls). Back in the vlog days, she’d talk about how she was besties with the most random names and never bring them up again months down the line if their singles flopped or they didn’t provide a way for her to be seen. This was in contrast to Demi who at the time seemed less polished and fake. The ones who have to keep a perfect image while acting differently behind the scenes are the worst ones in Hollywood.

I think it’s creepy. We know Taylor responds to loud criticisms so let’s make some noise about this. Taylor, one of the most privileged women in the world, defended herself in the name of feminism against a line in Ginny and Georgia (which was fine) and said nothing of the racist hate that her fans unleashed on the actress who delivered the line as a result (not fine and totally hypocritical considering her defense of herself was in the name of feminism). Yes, Taylor still faces some misogyny, but it doesn’t excuse turning a blind eye to the hate of a fellow woman (particularly racist hate) that started on her platform because of a Tweet she made. If anything, her experiences should have inspired her to speak up. That was an abuse of her claim that she’s a feminist and an abuse of her power with a fanbase as unruly as hers is. A feminist doesn’t only use feminism to defend themself. And if they do, it’s not feminism. That’s self interest. Her feminism has looked like this for years, and there are many other examples I could share, but her fandom is scary and claims they know who she is as a person because she’s superficially charming, which she is. That can be a trap, though, and we should NEVER not hold someone accountable for behavior like this.

I have friends of over 20 years. Throughout these years, we have been closer or more distant, and I felt more or less inclined to share my feelings with them. We are still friends and we still hangout and can count on each other. Friendship doesn't always look the same and it isn't a seamless line of constant affection and interaction. The best friendships are the ones that can survive the cold. I'm not saying that there's no truth to this video, I don't know them personally, but I think it is a reach to just assume based on a few photos and speculation.
I always wondered about the relationship with the Weeknd. Addicts will try to include you in their addictions. Sounds like Selena has an addictive personality. This is one of your best videos. Taylor would want to control (by advising, etc.) Selena & when she tired of Selena not listening to her, she would move on or distance herself. I have been a friend like Taylor. Bought her CD from "Another Cinderella Story" Soundtrack in 2008 (well that one I actually got for Christmas LOL)...in 2009 I bought Selena's 1st ever debut CD with her band The Scene, and every album since then. I loved her show and movies WAY, WAY before Justin was literally even famous at all. Her career was well established before she ever dated Justin!! And the relationship started in her teen years and went into her adult years. Give her a break with the Justin thing, that's a long time to be on and off involved with someone. I still think about my high school CRUSH of like 3+ years who I never dated, let alone someone who she dated, loved and slept with all that time. That's GOT to be hard to get over, I can only imagine.

I’m Selena’s age (a year older) and remember her, Miley and Demi in Disney back then and I only knew her in relation to Miley and Demi (the feud over Nick Jonas and the Miley and Mandy/Demi and Selena feud). She was the least popular out of the Disney girls. I didn’t know anything about her aside from that and didn’t know anyone who was a fan of hers (still don’t). Idk if you’re younger but it seems like people who weren’t around then don’t know she wasn’t really popular. And with Justin, they dated while they were teens, occasionally reconnected (a lot was PR which this blog exposed) and now he’s married… Regardless of how she feels she should respect he has moved on and has a wife now. I personally think it’s weird to still be heartbroken over a teenage boyfriend well over a decade later. And it makes me not believe her accusations of Justin being emotionally abusive. Especially with how Selena is as a person and what she’s said/done to Justin throughout the years while he’s literally never said anything bad about her… I was in a physically abusive relationship before getting with my now husband (over 7 years ago) and thank God everyday I’m away from that pos. So the way she continued to go back to him while simultaneously continuing to publicly bash him over and over (even after he’s been married for 5 YEARS) tells me she’s the toxic/abusive one 🤷🏻♀️

The last 5 yrs or so I've been seeing myself as Selena. I always needed to be in chaos and was addicted to ruining every aspect of my life. I would do things to hurt myself and others. I'm greatful I was able to step back and truly focus on taking care of myself with A LOT of therapy. I have BPD. One of my goals is to show people can change if they want to with they're entire self. I'd be beyond greatful having her team and friends wanting me to be my best self. Taylor seems like a pretty cool person.

I mean there’s lots of other reasons why I don’t like Selena, mostly because she is just a horrible person.
Their friendship is weird. Selena is the one who is super quick to defend and be next to Taylor. Meanwhile, when something happens to Selena, Taylor is nowhere to be found.
True , I dont think Taylor sees her as her best friend but Selena fails to see that.Selena should just move forward and find new healthy friendships and let the pass go. Selena should keep friends on her level ,move forward on the big stage and take back her acting career to the sky's and leave all the haters behind.
A lot of this can just be explained through childhood experiences. Taylor was born into an extraordinarily rich family who paid 300k in stock to the first record label that signed her after she was initially rejected. She got signed immediately after. She was also named Taylor so that her resume wouldn’t be thrown away if perceived to be a woman. Taylor was set up for success and had highly successful and supportive people guiding her. Selena comes from a broken home and can remember a time where she’d have to search for quarters in a car with her mom to get gas.
Selena seems like she has low self-esteem. That’s usually the main reason why someone can’t let go of a person who is not compatible/good for them and it ends up defining them for a long time. And then it exhausts everyone around them and the ex ends up looking good (even if he/she are/were jerks).
We do not know everything that has been going on, even if it has been in the media. We can interpret it and we can have "sources" but it is always difficult to say what happened. Friendship goes, friendship comes. We also don't know Selena and Taylor personally. Someone once said to me: When someone says something bad about a person, how do we know the truth and agenda behind what they are saying?
Toxic relationships are difficult and a struggle every day to get out of. It's easy to judge someone in the situation and say it never happened to them. But it's a struggle. Therefore, people have to finish emotionally before they can leave physically. It can take days, years. To me i took 20 years. After that, it takes courage and if you were emotionally destroyed by those you were with, you also have to build yourself up. You have to love yourself again. Tell yourself you deserve better. That's why people don't leave. Because they think they are worthless.

We know Taylor responds to loud criticisms so let’s make some noise about this. Taylor, one of the most privileged women in the world, defended herself in the name of feminism against a line in Ginny and Georgia (which was fine) and said nothing of the racist hate that her fans unleashed on the actress who delivered the line as a result (not fine and totally hypocritical considering her defense of herself was in the name of feminism). Yes, Taylor still faces some misogyny, but it doesn’t excuse turning a blind eye to the hate of a fellow woman (particularly racist hate) that started on her platform because of a Tweet she made. If anything, her experiences should have inspired her to speak up. That was an abuse of her claim that she’s a feminist and an abuse of her power with a fanbase as unruly as hers is. A feminist doesn’t only use feminism to defend themself. And if they do, it’s not feminism. That’s self interest. Her feminism has looked like this for years, and there are many other examples I could share, but her fandom is scary and claims they know who she is as a person because she’s superficially charming, which she is. That can be a trap, though, and we should NEVER not hold someone accountable for behavior like this.
Taylor Swift has always been the ring leader of a popular girl group even in high school. I never believed it when she said she was unpopular and get bullied in high school. And how she was never popular in school. I read her old interview she did for teen vogue said she was dumped by her popular girl group of friends she was part of and her reasoning was because she wasn't pretty or popular enough which was why they dumped her. She was literally the most popular girl in high school because she was already famous since she was 14 and even had record deals and modeling contracts. She was known to be so busy she miss school a lot. Maybe she got dumped by her friends because she was full of herself, controlling and was highly competitive. She even said she was the most competitive person she knew. Also her old high school interview in her high school she looked like the popular hotchick in high school who wear high heels in school and sitting in the popular girls table looking like the ring leader being the prettiest, best dressed, best makeup while all her other friends are cute and hot as well but not in her level. They don't shine as hard as she does. Also she has fans in high school walking up to her telling her how they love her music. She was the most popular girl in school. Even some of her old classmate said so. Also in high school she was also controlling and judgey about her friends. In her old interview in high school she talked about her friends bad dating life and used it as inspiration for her songs. And how her friend just don't listen when she said the guy wasn't good for her friend. What's funny she still have the high school popular girl mindset currently with her popular friend group aka the squad. And she is still the ring leader. She is so controlling of her public image that she will go a far as to make herself seem like an underdog outcast who never fit in with anyone and had a humble beginnings while in actuality she was very rich, privilege and never was the underdog but the popular girl that most people was jealous of.

Agreed about Selena Gomez's drug problem (I've seen the video of her and Justin Bieber buying meth in West Hollywood), but what bothers me the most about Selena is how she has ruined her once-naturally pretty face (including her once-lovely eye shape) with surgical and non-surgical procedures. I’m really happy to have found this video. I’ve always been a swiftie and like I always felt there was something off about Selena. I was never much of a fan. Just so people know, ANYONE can join NA or AA meetings, even family/friends who arent struggling with addiction.... There are also Al-Anon meetings for family/friends seeking help for a loved one using. What's said in the meetings stays in the meetings and if it comes to light you're spreading word of who is there and what people are saying then you can be asked to find a different meeting.. I regularly attend meetings due to maladaptive coping mechanisms and bipolar, and I'm not an addict. It's not only for addicts, anyone struggling can go for however long or whenever they need to. It's been a great tool when my depression is bad or I'm really manic and hearing other's stories of struggling and making it through is very empowering. Not to mention you can find a community of people that really love and support each other, which is crucial if you don't have anyone close to you or that you can't talk to about your struggles

sorry for the long comment, but i really feel like i should share this. firstly, i wanted to tell you how much i enjoy your content, especially this one! i was so excited when i saw it. i wanted to comment on the NA/AA meeting things…for context, i’ve been a recovering addict for going on 6 years. this probably sounds silly, but i actually started attending because i was really struggling with self-harm. i’ve heard of the types of meetings you’re talking about, they’re called closed meetings, but unless it was stated on the meeting sheet, anyone who wanted to attend could. i’ve found that the steps can be applied to other parts of life as well - it helped me, personally, with my self-harm struggles, and i’ve met others who say the same; i met a couple of parents who came to sit in and listen, but there’s nar-anon for family of addicts, be them in active addiction or not. not to take away from what you were saying though, because most of the people i’ve met in those rooms were there for drug/ alcohol dependency. but yeah, sorry for the novel, lol. i just wanted to put this out there because it really does help some.
Even if she’s not a bad person. Certain kinds of friends are just too much and one sided when it comes to support. A good example is that boyfriend-centered friend who gets you to emotionally to commit to hating the dude, emotionally drains you and then goes back to them to get some fresh trauma to emotionally drain you with again
I am glad to see someone call Selena out. Her drug usage gets buried so much. Taylor definitely is controlling but she has done a terrific job in keeping her image pretty clean. Her management team is excellent.
I'm guessing what Taylor was jealous of was just the sheer amount of press Selena's involvement with Justin generated. She also wouldn't have liked being the single one of the two besties because it makes her look less desirable. Selena is more petite, we already know Taylor feels like an out of place giant at times so she likely felt that with Justin in the picture she couldn't be top dog whereas if Selena's single and judged on her (at the time) music career, Taylor is back in the race and winning.

I find it odd how people in the comments put selena on this very high pedastle. Everyone has their ups and downs and sadly, the reality of life is that no one is actually a saint. Not even Selena. your analysis leads me to believe Taylor and Beyonce have a genuine connection behind closed doors. I’m not a Taylor fan, I’m far too old for that 😃. But I do know about friendships. And I’m completely with Taylor here. You can love a friend and listen to their problems over and over again. You can advise them and pick the up if they f**k up, but you can’t do this forever. It is too draining. It sucks all energy and life out of you. And sometimes your friends need to hit rock bottom before anything changes, especially where addiction is concerned.
When you're in an abusive relationship (especially when you struggle with daddy issues) it's really hard to leave that relationship, and a lot of people are hard on their friends for going back to their abusive ex because they themselves have never been in an abusive relationship. I know because I used to be that friend getting mad at my friend for constantly complaining about her bf mistreating her and then going back to him. But then years later, I found myself in a horrible abusive relationship and realized first hand how hard it was to leave. It's called trauma bonding and even my psychologist confirmed this. If we do more research on abusive relationships we might be able to be more compassionate to Selena and other friends in the same situation. Doesn't mean we should enable or encourage people to stay in toxic relationships, but at least we can hold space for them in a more positive way while they work their own shit out. Leaving a toxic relationship ultimately comes down to finally making that decision for yourself, no amount of external pressure will make you stop when you're trauma bonded.

In Taylor's defense, a "friend" like this will exhaust you. They will hit you with the same thing over and over and over, and want your time, attention and advice, but don't take it, and that's fine, but a time comes when you are just so over it, you can't anymore. So you have to sever ties.

Her re-recording her music is genius. She wanted control of her music and she didn't want everyone else making money off her music, she couldn't buy it because she got screwed so she worked the system instead of it working her. Kudos. She's killing it musically, she's killing it in business and when the movie industry didn't want to do things her way, she did it herself. And she did all this by focusing on her craft, respecting it,herself and her image. She understood the assignment. She understands healthy boundaries and she's not wrong for steering clear of selena's voluntary and deliberate trainwreck. Selena wants the attention, wants to be a victim in need of salvation. She needs counseling and real self reflection, not this garbage glossy pr puff "documentary".

I used to not care for Taylor to much respectfully and still don’t however i have a friend who’s a super fan and met Taylor at a restaurant. Apparently she was super controlled by her manager and wasn’t allowed to take pictures with any fans or wait staff. I think there’s much more to Taylor’s story we won’t find out until she’s not relevant anymore. I believe the strong girl persona is there to throw people off not saying she isn’t a strong person but the way my friend described it, it felt weird and sinister and her story could be closer to Britney Spears than we could ever know today.

The vulnerability with which Taylor writes about her thoughts, feelings and experiences tells me she is someone who has control of her own and is in a place where she feels safe to do that and not an exploitative one. But she does follow some strict rules as well that help keep up her image and career but I don't think it's anything like a conservatorship...more like she wants her team to help her keep her limelight and success and cooperates with them willingly.

I’ve been waiting for something like this to be talked about since 2008. I remember distinctly how Selena was social climbing and making sure to be seen/photographed with any newcomer that had a similar fanbase to her (both guys and girls). Back in the vlog days, she’d talk about how she was besties with the most random names and never bring them up again months down the line if their singles flopped or they didn’t provide a way for her to be seen. This was in contrast to Demi who at the time seemed less polished and fake. The ones who have to keep a perfect image while acting differently behind the scenes are the worst ones in Hollywood.

Taylor, one of the most privileged women in the world, defended herself in the name of feminism against a line in Ginny and Georgia (which was fine) and said nothing of the racist hate that her fans unleashed on the actress who delivered the line as a result (not fine and totally hypocritical considering her defense of herself was in the name of feminism). Yes, Taylor still faces some misogyny, but it doesn’t excuse turning a blind eye to the hate of a fellow woman (particularly racist hate) that started on her platform because of a Tweet she made. I have friends of over 20 years. Throughout these years, we have been closer or more distant, and I felt more or less inclined to share my feelings with them. We are still friends and we still hangout and can count on each other. Friendship doesn't always look the same and it isn't a seamless line of constant affection and interaction. The best friendships are the ones that can survive the cold. I'm not saying that there's no truth to this video, I don't know them personally, but I think it is a reach to just assume based on a few photos and speculation.

I loved her show and movies WAY, WAY before Justin was literally even famous at all. Her career was well established before she ever dated Justin!!
And the relationship started in her teen years and went into her adult years. Give her a break with the Justin thing, that's a long time to be on and off involved with someone. I still think about my high school CRUSH of like 3+ years who I never dated, let alone someone who she dated, loved and slept with all that time. I’m Selena’s age (a year older) and remember her, Miley and Demi in Disney back then and I only knew her in relation to Miley and Demi (the feud over Nick Jonas and the Miley and Mandy/Demi and Selena feud). She was the least popular out of the Disney girls. I didn’t know anything about her aside from that and didn’t know anyone who was a fan of hers (still don’t). Idk if you’re younger but it seems like people who weren’t around then don’t know she wasn’t really popular.
And with Justin, they dated while they were teens, occasionally reconnected (a lot was PR which this blog exposed) and now he’s married… Regardless of how she feels she should respect he has moved on and has a wife now. I personally think it’s weird to still be heartbroken over a teenage boyfriend well over a decade later. And it makes me not believe her accusations of Justin being emotionally abusive. Especially with how Selena is as a person and what she’s said/done to Justin throughout the years while he’s literally never said anything bad about her…
I was in a physically abusive relationship before getting with my now husband (over 7 years ago) and thank God everyday I’m away from that pos. So the way she continued to go back to him while simultaneously continuing to publicly bash him over and over (even after he’s been married for 5 YEARS) tells me she’s the toxic/abusive one 🤷🏻♀️

The last 5 yrs or so I've been seeing myself as Selena. I always needed to be in chaos and was addicted to ruining every aspect of my life. I would do things to hurt myself and others. I'm greatful I was able to step back and truly focus on taking care of myself with A LOT of therapy. I have BPD. One of my goals is to show people can change if they want to with they're entire self. I'd be beyond greatful having her team and friends wanting me to be my best self. Taylor seems like a pretty cool person.

Selena seems like she has low self-esteem. That’s usually the main reason why someone can’t let go of a person who is not compatible/good for them and it ends up defining them for a long time. And then it exhausts everyone around them and the ex ends up looking good (even if he/she are/were jerks).
Selena seems to be a little bit of manipulator and always seems to like to see her in the light of a victim
We do not know everything that has been going on, even if it has been in the media. We can interpret it and we can have "sources" but it is always difficult to say what happened. Friendship goes, friendship comes. We also don't know Selena and Taylor personally. Someone once said to me: When someone says something bad about a person, how do we know the truth and agenda behind what they are saying?
Toxic relationships are difficult and a struggle every day to get out of. It's easy to judge someone in the situation and say it never happened to them. But it's a struggle. Therefore, people have to finish emotionally before they can leave physically. It can take days, years. To me i took 20 years. After that, it takes courage and if you were emotionally destroyed by those you were with, you also have to build yourself up. You have to love yourself again. Tell yourself you deserve better. That's why people don't leave. Because they think they are worthless.

We know Taylor responds to loud criticisms so let’s make some noise about this. Taylor, one of the most privileged women in the world, defended herself in the name of feminism against a line in Ginny and Georgia (which was fine) and said nothing of the racist hate that her fans unleashed on the actress who delivered the line as a result (not fine and totally hypocritical considering her defense of herself was in the name of feminism). Yes, Taylor still faces some misogyny, but it doesn’t excuse turning a blind eye to the hate of a fellow woman (particularly racist hate) that started on her platform because of a Tweet she made. If anything, her experiences should have inspired her to speak up. That was an abuse of her claim that she’s a feminist and an abuse of her power with a fanbase as unruly as hers is. And how her friend just don't listen when she said the guy wasn't good for her friend.

Just so people know, ANYONE can join NA or AA meetings, even family/friends who arent struggling with addiction.... There are also Al-Anon meetings for family/friends seeking help for a loved one using. What's said in the meetings stays in the meetings and if it comes to light you're spreading word of who is there and what people are saying then you can be asked to find a different meeting.. I regularly attend meetings due to maladaptive coping mechanisms and bipolar, and I'm not an addict. It's not only for addicts, anyone struggling can go for however long or whenever they need to. It's been a great tool when my depression is bad or I'm really manic and hearing other's stories of struggling and making it through is very empowering. Not to mention you can find a community of people that really love and support each other, which is crucial if you don't have anyone close to you or that you can't talk to about your struggles

i wanted to comment on the NA/AA meeting things…for context, i’ve been a recovering addict for going on 6 years. this probably sounds silly, but i actually started attending because i was really struggling with self-harm. i’ve heard of the types of meetings you’re talking about, they’re called closed meetings, but unless it was stated on the meeting sheet, anyone who wanted to attend could.
i’ve found that the steps can be applied to other parts of life as well - it helped me, personally, with my self-harm struggles, and i’ve met others who say the same; i met a couple of parents who came to sit in and listen, but there’s nar-anon for family of addicts, be them in active addiction or not.
not to take away from what you were saying though, because most of the people i’ve met in those rooms were there for drug/ alcohol dependency.
but yeah, sorry for the novel, lol. i just wanted to put this out there because it really does help some.

Even if she’s not a bad person. Certain kinds of friends are just too much and one sided when it comes to support.
A good example is that boyfriend-centered friend who gets you to emotionally to commit to hating the dude, emotionally drains you and then goes back to them to get some fresh trauma to emotionally drain you with again

I am glad to see someone call Selena out. Her drug usage gets buried so much. Taylor definitely is controlling but she has done a terrific job in keeping her image pretty clean. Her management team is excellent.
I'm guessing what Taylor was jealous of was just the sheer amount of press Selena's involvement with Justin generated. She also wouldn't have liked being the single one of the two besties because it makes her look less desirable. Selena is more petite, we already know Taylor feels like an out of place giant at times so she likely felt that with Justin in the picture she couldn't be top dog whereas if Selena's single and judged on her (at the time) music career, Taylor is back in the race and winning.
Oddly enough some of the most MEANEST GIRLS I’ve ever encountered where actually bullied themselves r made feel less than so they turn into the worst bully’s one may encounter!!

I find it odd how people in the comments put selena on this very high pedastle. Everyone has their ups and downs and sadly, the reality of life is that no one is actually a saint. Not even Selena. Celebs infront of the public eye are supposed to show you their best traits. And I wouldn't be surprised because Taylor was very silent earlier this year about the selena, hailey drama. And also I wouldn't be surprised if she got tired of seeing her friend constantly going through the same things all over and over again. I admit just like selena, I was that girl. I was her and I put my ex friend through the ringer with my ex. I think that Selena is only starting this process of healing by herself. I was 17- 19 when I was going through it. lol and the funniest thing about me even knowing this channel, is that i actually listen to selenas music unlike her fans. Ive always liked her music but her victim persona and annoying selenators were overwhelming. It confused me how no one ever called her out and if they did, fans and media would gaslight the opposition into oblivion ... it left a bad taste in my mouth, you would see her involved inso much shady stuff but in interviews and stuff its poor Selena, she cant catch a break but everyone else is fair game. Selena's always innocent good girl image annoyed me... I also didnt like her 2016 AMA speech it really annoyed me and gave me the ick. Compare it to Leo's speech for his first Oscar, speaking about real world issues during his shining moment. Selena whos persona revolves around how humble and selfless she is, then drones on about her woes on an award stage. I hate the way her fans seems to think her friends are her babysitter, they were hating on Rachel but I can totally understand trying so hard to talk sense into someone who only care about themselves, people don't seem to realize how hard it is to walk on egg shells every time you talk to someone, and that's how the relationship looked like. I feel like Selena got stuck in her teenage years and can't or won't grow up, her chef show is weird, like in the first season ok I get it you can't cook, but 4 season and she still playing the "help me I'm dumb" role, is so annoying.

I’m not a Taylor fan, I’m far too old for that 😃. But I do know about friendships. And I’m completely with Taylor here. You can love a friend and listen to their problems over and over again. You can advise them and pick the up if they f**k up, but you can’t do this forever. It is too draining. It sucks all energy and life out of you. And sometimes your friends need to hit rock bottom before anything changes, especially where addiction is concerned.
When you're in an abusive relationship (especially when you struggle with daddy issues) it's really hard to leave that relationship, and a lot of people are hard on their friends for going back to their abusive ex because they themselves have never been in an abusive relationship. I know because I used to be that friend getting mad at my friend for constantly complaining about her bf mistreating her and then going back to him. But then years later, I found myself in a horrible abusive relationship and realized first hand how hard it was to leave. It's called trauma bonding and even my psychologist confirmed this. If we do more research on abusive relationships we might be able to be more compassionate to Selena and other friends in the same situation. Doesn't mean we should enable or encourage people to stay in toxic relationships, but at least we can hold space for them in a more positive way while they work their own shit out. Leaving a toxic relationship ultimately comes down to finally making that decision for yourself, no amount of external pressure will make you stop when you're trauma bonded.
