Found this recording after watching the documentary 'Johnny Cash in Britain', and in a clip from the Glastonbury Festival they had included the whole of Folsom Prison Blues, the opening act. This was some three weeks before the Manhattan Center gig, and as far as I know he hadn't performed for bigger audiences as only himself for many years. Somehow this performance was a restoring of his career, even though he had great success together with the Highway Men between 1985 and 1995, but the Cash style of country music generally wasn't what hit the top of the charge in that period. So the festival management did ask themselves if they took a big chance by booking him, but the reception he got overwhelmed everyone, with the young audience obviously knowing the songs, and clearly giving a spark to the 62 year old Johnny Cash, a spark that also is shining in this film. It's showing the world what a timeless legend he is.
I always loved Johnny's guitar picking. There will never be another man in black who cares for his Country and the underdog. I think alot of it was how his Dad treated him. He knew what it was like to be poor, and to be the underdog. R.i.p Johnny Cash.
❤️ My. Mother saw him in the 70ies in Frankfurt. I collect all her old Lps, now I am a 40 years old punkrocker, I love him so much. Johnny will never die.
I grew up on Johnny Cash.....my grandmother had every single one of his records, then every single one of his 8 tracks, then every single one of his tapes, then she started collecting his CD's. This brings back so many memories of hanging out at Grandma's house on the weekends helping with groceries, mowing her lawn and putting on the storm windows in the fall.

I am a life long Cash fan since the first time I heard Ring of Fire on my grandparent's AM radio in their Scotty Tag A Long camper, when I used to spend summers with them. I wanted so bad to see this show as a native New Yorker, but I was in Philadelphia in art school at the time. About one year after this Manhattan concert I first saw Johnny playing live, with pretty much the same songs, and the same great performance. He played in a midsize sports arena in Germany, and they hat put chairs, wrongfully assuming that most of his fans would be about his age. After the third song or so everybody had stood up and was pushing towards the stage. The people from the ranks (incuding me) climbed down a 2 meter high surrounding wall to get closer. What an athmosphere! Gone for good...

"Hello I'm Johnny Cash" when I hear that I come running. I saw Johnny in New Orleans 1973, and again in the early 90's in Bay St Louis Mississippi. The hair stood up on my arms when he walked up the stairs to the stage, he was all in black with a big silver eagle on the back of his shirt. A true American Legend.

Hi guys, I am writing from Italy... Eventhough he never played his music in Italy, I got in love with johnny while I was linving in the US... around 2000/4. Actually it was for my ex girl friend, american girl, that I met him first.. Then I statrted to study his songs because I wanted to understand the society I was living in; after almost 1 year I could read writing and understanding his tongue and of course what was around me... the good and the bad. He sounds like another singer ' Fabrizio De Andrè', who was probably the most important italian songwriter ever .. I invite you guys to listen this guy. Maybe it will take a little time to get his lyrics, but don't worry because there are many italians that do not get anyrhing from his songs. They are quite mentally lazy.. just like many americans are!!!!
Heard a lot of J.C. Never heard drive on before. I'm sure it touched a lot of the people in the Vietnam war. Followed through to life in general. You hit the bad and terrible times and drive on. Great song.
No one on the planet enjoyed Johnny's resurgence more than I did, but if it weren't for the time when he thought he wasn't relevant anymore, I wouldn't have found him. He was my dad's. He became mine in his time when he thought he didn't matter. He always mattered. God bless his him.
Yes, just a man with a guitar. But what a man. A giant, a true great man. He left his imprint in all our hearts and it will never vanish. May God Bless Him and his great wife, June Carter, united in heaven.

I decided to watch a legend instead of some old rock and roll. Boy am I glad that I did, that I did, that I did, that I did: Johnny Cash. This concert just blows your mind. What a performer along w/ his band. It's the first time I ever watched him. I grew up w/ his songs in the 60s and 70s but was too young to see him on tv appearances. Thanks so much for uploading and experience of a lifetime. Sit back, relax, turn up the volume. and just plain listen! You'll be glad that u did. "Orange Blossom Express" - now that was a once in a lifetime performance by this "Man In Black". I listened to it 6x. 2 harmonicas and singing - how many musicians can do that? Enjoy.
They entered the front doors just like anyone else would....truly think about that now that it's 2013. June and Johnny might have died from broken hearts being so much different than the days they grew up in. It's like we don't love each other as a whole these days...we're all just out for ourselves. Who still practices the golden rule?...RIP June and Johnny. Your music, beliefs, and life are inspiring and always will be.
Mr. Cash knows how to put on a really great show. He wears his star with pride and many years of experience. Through thick and thin he stands tall. Thank you Johnny for all the great music!
I remember listening to Johnny's records down at my grandpas when I was about 10 (21 now). Brings back good memories... Miss ya gramps... They sure don't make music like this anymore.
There are as usual no words to say how good Johnny was, I can't understand the hateful comments that some of his videos attract... He was a man with flaws and with a great will to try and overcome them...
I agree! I was blessed enough to see him in concert in July 1989 and he put on an excellent show, he could have not given his all to the performance, but he made it WELL worth our ticket prices even though he was just about fresh off the operating table! He even relearned one of his songs for a fan who had written him a letter requesting it. Twenty-Five Minutes To Go was the song he did for that fan.
If Johnny had only written and recorded "Walk the Line" he would be remembered as one of the greatest country artists. As it was, he was a singular force in American music. This is a remarkable video - thank you so much for posting it.
My Father died at the age of 77-in may 2009. I love Johnny Cash, because my Dad Loved Johnny. Also, Thankyou for mentioning my city, Melbourne, and my Country, Australia.
I was there that night 3rd row center guest of Bob Wootton my company Kramer Guitar made that red guitar he was playing .After playing Orange Blossom special Johnny tossed me one of his harmonicas
Thanks for posting this! I was fortunate enough to grow up VERY near June Carter's home town, giving me opportunity to see Johnny on numerous occasions. I am grateful for those times & miss his live performances.. He was very kind & friendly to me every time I had the pleasure of shaking his hand and thanking him for his music!
I've always been a big Cash fan. I know he was flawed, but he was authentic, humble, and audacious. I love his music and his voice makes me cry now. Thank you for posting this.
He was a certified legend! He could make a person feel whatever he was singing about from Gospel, to prison songs, to train songs to basic love songs! There is absolutely NO replacement for him! Bit He taught his daughter Rosanne very well.
The voice of a generation. Sure it's simple but it's bedrock. When JC sings you're getting a basic outlook on life. It's about values as much as anything else...
You could put together quite a good night of black & white videos, between this concert and Roy Orbison's. Two of the all time greats. R.I.P. gentlemen.
JohnnyCashfan66, I want to thank you so much for posting this fabulous moment in time. I've never seen it before, and although I was there during the 'Highwayman" tour, I've never seen Johnny perform an entire show by himself. The solo acoustic segment brought a tear to my eye, or was it the smoke? God bless you friend for touching my heart with this act of kindness. I wish you the very best, Lucky
Thank you very much for the warm words. Johnny Cash had an intimacy about him. I feel like when he was on stage, he was singing to each individual person, especially on those solo acoustic songs. Right from the heart and it hits right in the heart. :)
Well, I'm seeing a lot of the same fans commenting all over with these UA-cam videos; it's like a "Johnny Cash family". I ran across this upload and I'm truly grateful for you doing so. In all of these videos we see the life and subtle changes in how Johnny would do a song a bit differently at times, but always with his soul. Thanks too for everyone who has commented on my video: "Johnny Cash Me and My Heart".
my absolute favorite singer. I wish I could've seen him in concert, but sadly I was only 4 when he passed away. my parents told me that I cried and cried. RIP to the legend, the man in black, his spirit will forever live on through his music ❤️
I will tell you what I'm 57 and I grew up in the 60sand70s and my dad "God rest his soul" loved Johnny Cash especially his old stuff.big river was his favorite song. And on the Johnny live at the met his rendition of big river was the best I ever heard.. thank you Johnny and thank you DaD. I love you and I love Johnny.

He sounds like another singer ' Fabrizio De Andrè', who was probably the most important italian songwriter ever
Great song.
I'M LISTENING TO HIS.LAST LIVE CONCERT I WISH ALL MY RELATIVES A GOOD AND HAPPY LIFE
If God exists.....this is him.
Johnny Cash forever.
No one on the planet enjoyed Johnny's resurgence more than I did, but if it weren't for the time when he thought he wasn't relevant anymore, I wouldn't have found him. He was my dad's. He became mine in his time when he thought he didn't matter. He always mattered. God bless his him.
I grow up with this song my great grandfather and grandmother
Yes, just a man with a guitar. But what a man. A giant, a true great man. He left his imprint in all our hearts and it will never vanish. May God Bless Him and his great wife, June Carter, united in heaven.
I recommend to everyone the film about the life of Johnny Cash and June Carter entitled *"WALK THE LINE"* with splendid actors. Greetings. ua-cam.com/video/5Jr6HC-gOcs/v-deo.html *🐴GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY🐴* Song sung by *Johnny💘Cash* Guitar solo version in the style of *The 💜Ramrods*

A man, a voice, a messenger. Timeless. Talking to us from the depth of his heart. Thank you, Johnny Cash for talking to our hearts.
Don't remember the year but had to be the mid 50's when I met Johnny and got his autograph.
Lucky you :)

@@artifine1 --I met Johnny Cash when he was playing a full concert , along with Rev. Billy Graham about July 1985 or 1986 --Graham began speaking at Carolina Stadium in Columbia , So. Carolina , when , all of a sudden a HUGE Summer electrical storm was moving in. It was the shortest sermon Rev. Graham ever had --then Johnny Cash and his entire entourage appeared on stage for the next 2 hours --It was WONDERFUL --Next day , Cash appeared at a Christian Book Store in West Columbia , to sign his Book THE MAN IN WHITE , --I had the chance to spend about 2 Min. with him and to Thank Him for so many years of great music and , for being a great inspiration to many people for persevering through so many Record Producers who wanted to abandon Johnny Cash --Johnny kept his Faith close to his heart and became one of the Greatest and longest lasting musicians in History --Johnny Cash succeeded at something that all but swallowed up and spat out too many great recording artists
CHERISH IT MY FRIEND
I.love you Johnny
Your music, beliefs, and life are inspiring and always will be.
boyyy you should see it now in 2024 😂😂
Mr. Cash knows how to put on a really great show. He wears his star with pride and many years of experience. Through thick and thin he stands tall. Thank you Johnny for all the great music!
my first concert was him! I was eight years old. I went with my mom and grandmother at West Point in NY! probably around 1984-85.

I remember listening to Johnny's records down at my grandpas when I was about 10 (21 now). Brings back good memories... Miss ya gramps... They sure don't make music like this anymore.
Real musicians really playing and singing...thank God.
The world will never see another Johnny Cash, multi-talented!!!
@@RhondaBland😂 😂
If Johnny had only written and recorded "Walk the Line" he would be remembered as one of the greatest country artists. As it was, he was a singular force in American music. This is a remarkable video - thank you so much for posting it.
He sure did transcend boundaries!
THE greatest
Thanks a million, Johnny will live forever in my heart and ears!
This guy's the absolute real deal.
That's an amazing story! He sure was down-to-earth for a superstar. It's always fantastic to hear personal stories, so thanks for sharing!
I feel privileged to have viewed this concert by the Master, thanks so much for sharing
I've always been a big Cash fan. I know he was flawed, but he was authentic, humble, and audacious. I love his music and his voice makes me cry now. Thank you for posting this.

The voice of a generation. Sure it's simple but it's bedrock. When JC sings you're getting a basic outlook on life. It's about values as much as anything else...
Johnny Cash, tvoja glasba je božanska in večna, hvala !
You could put together quite a good night of black & white videos, between this concert and Roy Orbison's. Two of the all time greats. R.I.P. gentlemen.
I love Roy orbison
Mister Cash is Definitely going all over the Place with his Stories told over the top of great soulfully written musical songs!!
Cannot possibly get tired of listening to Johnny Cash! 9 or 10 when I bought Johnny Cash's LP. Some years back 😊

Grew up with Johnny, he's where the roots are for sure. Thanks for posting his concerts!
Long live the legend! There will never be another like you.
Johnny Cash is one of my favorite country music artists.
I wish you the very best,
Lucky
Thank you very much for the warm words. Johnny Cash had an intimacy about him. I feel like when he was on stage, he was singing to each individual person, especially on those solo acoustic songs. Right from the heart and it hits right in the heart. :)
+JohnnyCashfan66 Johnny Cash is the best. I love him so much. Simply the only
there will never be a better than Johnny Cash...never

I didn't get much into Johnny until the move and he had already passed :(. Love his work. God bless Johnny Cash :)
movie, I meant to say, in 05.
He went through every hurt, he felt every pain, he also felt the joy...this is why he can speak so honestly in his songs, and why people across all social divisions like him, he knew his faults and his gifts....he is "US"....JC..a man of the people...even if he did not want to be that man..IMHO
I am a Johnny Cash fan and always will be. I was crushed when he died. Keep the old clips coming. You never have to much Johnny Cash.
