I would just use it as watch and music player, maybe use the S Health app too, but I don't see any other use out of a smartwatch. I like the fact that is can have a SIM, and I can leave my phone at home and go for a jog, and still get my calls forwarded to my BT headphones. It's a powerful device man, and I really see the potential in this one.

coolertuep I am a watch enthusiast, lets call it that. I have a expensive watches Longines, a Rado, a Tag... I love classical watches, so for me, it HAS to be round, it's not even a choice. Rectangular might be more practical, but just looking at the time and pressing play pause on the screen is not that big of a deal. I would never read Whatsapp messages or anything of the sorts on a watch. As for the iPhone reference, I had touch screen phones (imate which become HTC, Palm...) LONG before the iPhone was even out. I never owned an iPhone, but I understand what you mean. In Romania an extra SIM would be about 5 EUR (6 $) a month, so nothing really, and if I link it to my 55 EUR (65 $) existing account, I am pretty sure they will give it to me for free.

You are wrong. The Galaxy Wear S had different GUI. Check it on YT. My manager had that watch for a short time period and he let me try it. It had totally different menu. Apple did not copy the GUI. In fact they came out with those circle icons on the smartwatch `Home Button`? Are you serious? Apple has been using ` Home Button` on their iPhone for nearly 1 decade. The digital crown it more comfortable. You can use it in every menu, and a traditional crown on the watch is more traditional than the touch basel.. It gives you a feel you are using a watch. Also that kind of technology reminds me the clickwheel which was brought to the mass market by Apple on their iPod, more than 10 years ago

Ross Green texts from messanges/longer messanges as an example. Short messanges wont be a problem on the round display though. But im also using my apple watch for reading some short news (almost only headlines and 1-2 sentences) camera remote, sometimes even amazon/ebay, sometime im using a app to help with cooking (showing picture by picture what to do on your wrist), twitter, calendar... all that wont work as good on a round display. Everytime you need a list to scroll through, round display wont be as comfortable. Even if you want to select music from a playslist I can agree it does look better as rectangluar watches, but i think thats just because we are used to round watches and rectangular look a bit strange. Do you remember how strange the first iPhone looked because it has a big display and almost no buttons/keys? Mobile phones this time had small display and a keyboard, the iPhone looked just strange because we were used to "how mobile phones should look". Nowadays smartphones look fine, we just need to get used to it^^ I guess it will be the same with square watches. Keep in mind all our modern technology was developed for rectangular screens. You wouldnt buy a round pc-monitor or smartphone easier right? Thats just becuase round displays dont fit good our technology.
The rotating bezel and the immediate access to widgets and notifications looks really good. The Apple Watch requires a swipe down and then multiple swipes to the sides to get to a specific Glance widget. Compare that to the singular motion of a bezel turn on the S2 to reach a specific widget. If the bezel is tactile enough and one is able to gain the muscle memory for specific placement of widgets it will be nearly immediate information on demand. If a smartwatch is to be something more convenient than the phone sitting in one's pocket this sort of immediacy is demanded of a smartwatch. The S2 may yet have some significant problems, but one thing is clear, the rotating bezel is hands down the best control interface we've seen yet on a smartwatch.

Mabirc 3D touch is something android had for a long time. It's called long press. Apple just twicked it. Gear S2 is sleek looking and far from first generation square screen. Android apps were available in older phones but just not vast numbers. Who dominates the app number now? Android. Credit goes to Apple for having a great ecosystem although other platforms like Xbox, Wii U etc uses similar ways, very little memory yet efficient. You forgot how ridiculous it is to go back in iPhones and iPads. Even as a tech savvy person, I have had difficulties finding settings and going back or options and closing apps etc.
The Apple Watch's screen is still incomparable. The colors are so rich and the blacks are so dark. While you can see the terrible relection in the samsungs black areas. The S2 looks a bit too plasticky in my opinion, idk I like Apple's glass bezel watch face and I think the square shape looks futuristic. Samsungs attempt is great, just not suited for me.

Don't get me wrong, the apple watch is mostly crap, but that screen is simply unbeatable. Very dark blacks that blend with the bezel, amazing viewing angles.

Ross Green texts from messanges/longer messanges as an example. Short messanges wont be a problem on the round display though.
But im also using my apple watch for reading some short news (almost only headlines and 1-2 sentences) camera remote, sometimes even amazon/ebay, sometime im using a app to help with cooking (showing picture by picture what to do on your wrist), twitter, calendar... all that wont work as good on a round display.
Everytime you need a list to scroll through, round display wont be as comfortable. Even if you want to select music from a playslist
I can agree it does look better as rectangluar watches, but i think thats just because we are used to round watches and rectangular look a bit strange. Do you remember how strange the first iPhone looked because it has a big display and almost no buttons/keys? Mobile phones this time had small display and a keyboard, the iPhone looked just strange because we were used to "how mobile phones should look". Nowadays smartphones look fine, we just need to get used to it^^
I guess it will be the same with square watches.
Keep in mind all our modern technology was developed for rectangular screens. You wouldnt buy a round pc-monitor or smartphone easier right? Thats just becuase round displays dont fit good our technology.

The rotating bezel and the immediate access to widgets and notifications looks really good. The Apple Watch requires a swipe down and then multiple swipes to the sides to get to a specific Glance widget. Compare that to the singular motion of a bezel turn on the S2 to reach a specific widget. If the bezel is tactile enough and one is able to gain the muscle memory for specific placement of widgets it will be nearly immediate information on demand. If a smartwatch is to be something more convenient than the phone sitting in one's pocket this sort of immediacy is demanded of a smartwatch. The S2 may yet have some significant problems, but one thing is clear, the rotating bezel is hands down the best control interface we've seen yet on a smartwatch.

You only have to press the home button (bottom button) to get to apps on the S2. In the video, he was pressing the back button so it didn't work.

When I first saw the Apple Watch I thought oh that looks nice and then I saw the gear s2 and realised why traditionally watches are made with round bezels, it puts the Apple Watch to shame in every department apart from the obvious so has apple does have more apps etc available , but I don't really care for lots of apps on a smartwatch , I'd be a lot happier with the gear s2

I didn't thought I would be interested in smart watches (I'm not interested in normal watches for that matter) but the Gear S2 looks stunning and performs surprisingly well.
If Apple would have released that Classic S2 of their own it would have been bombshell. Sadly their product sucks.

Mabirc 3D touch is something android had for a long time. It's called long press. Apple just twicked it. Gear S2 is sleek looking and far from first generation square screen. Android apps were available in older phones but just not vast numbers. Who dominates the app number now? Android. Credit goes to Apple for having a great ecosystem although other platforms like Xbox, Wii U etc uses similar ways, very little memory yet efficient. You forgot how ridiculous it is to go back in iPhones and iPads. Even as a tech savvy person, I have had difficulties finding settings and going back or options and closing apps etc.

The Apple Watch's screen is still incomparable. The colors are so rich and the blacks are so dark. While you can see the terrible relection in the samsungs black areas. The S2 looks a bit too plasticky in my opinion, idk I like Apple's glass bezel watch face and I think the square shape looks futuristic. Samsungs attempt is great, just not suited for me.

When you want to display text on a circle display, you cant use like 50% of the display to do this (how should it work).

Don't get me wrong, the apple watch is mostly crap, but that screen is simply unbeatable. Very dark blacks that blend with the bezel, amazing viewing angles.

Rotating is optional you can swipe and all that. It's as Apple's rotating crown, but a little easier to function with
