You, sir, convinced me to get this watch! Watched your review last Saturday, got it the very next day. The battery lasts around 2 and a half days on this bad boy, with light use and battery saving mode overnight, which is pretty impressive. Your minor problem with the rather small size of the S2 doesn't affect me, as I've got girly wrists :D The rotating bezel is an absolute killer feature and the Tizen ecosystem isn't (that incredibly) bad and limited. I'm still looking for some hack, to allow me to skip tracks in Spotify without having to wake up the watch or having to look at the watch at all (it only does that for about 10 seconds after you turn the screen off with the Music app active). Very happy with my S2, thanks for the review!
Great review, you speak calmly, making it easy to understand everything you had to say. One thing I noticed about your negative was the size. It actually shocked me to think, why did Samsung make a watch device smaller, when a larger casing might actually be a cheaper manufacturing cost. But then there is the universal sized watch for male and female - just make something in the middle was probably the most cost efficient than two diffferent sizes. But I totally agree, that size has held me back a little bit. Though, I might wear this on a normal daily routine, but then switch to a classic mechanical, larger watch, when I want to show off - I mean, that is 50% of what the purpose of a watch is these days for a man - show it off.

I got the Gear S a few days ago, and for the most part, I'm very satisfied with the watch, but there are a few things about it that i don't like such as the inconvenient charger, the size of the face (too big) as well as the lack of connectivity with later model phones and somewhat sparse app choice. anything to add? thanks!

Great review...it's funny you think it's too small bc that's exactly why I like it. I'm just not into the geaky, calculator-on-a-wrist type of watch. Like the sleek standard look. I would have waited for the Classic version, a little smaller, but figured the band was a little more weather resistant with the version you tested. LOVE THIS WATCH. Agree on lack of apps though but it's new; hopefully they'll be adding some.
I got the 3G model from Tmobil but I am thinking of sending it back. I got it thinking I could use it as a stand alone phone. It actually works pretty well doing this but two things. First, if I am connected via bluetooth to my Note 5 and try to make a call with the watch, it will only make the call through the phone and not through the watch. The orher, and main problem, is that the volumn from the watch is just not usable in every day use. Sure, if you are in a quit place it is good, but any other noises and you have to hold it up to your ear. I love the size but having my bat phone is not happening quit yet.
I just bought this smart watch and I love it and the size is perfect for me cuz im a girl and its large on me but it doesn't look oversized or clownish... definitely a thumbs up

I was left in question about the interaction with call capabilities, since it's been discovered that there is no speaker what actually can you do with an incoming call, or making an outgoing call? and if you know or have an idea when the "3g" model is available please share. My birthday is in November and I was trying to hold off for the alleged "3g" model but I can make good with this . Still curious if I should grab the Moto 2nd gen or the Hauwei for the size and style. Would I be missing out on all of this functionality?
Really it depends on if you honestly think you need to make phone calls from your wrist. If you can do without having that function then this watch will be just fine.
Just switched from Apple Watch to Android Wear (Huawei Watch), 10 days later I sold Huawei (Android Wear is so limited!) and now I'm on Gear S2 which have almost all I need from smart watch. Overall - Gear S2 is the closest I can get to have Apple Watch experience and usability. One thing Apple Watch have better is keeping connection with phone over wifi more stable than Tizen (with AW there was also an issue).
sad tizen isn't that vitalized as other competitors. In fact who would ever have expected some of the basic apps such as maps or voice command could be the most challenging parts.
Brought this yesterday...the 4g version allows phone calls and GPS I just hate that it doesn't have many apps to choose from. Hopefully they'll be an update of some some in the near future to download the apps from your connected smartphone to the smartwatch itself.
Great review , but no one has covered the phone features of the watch yet , surprisingly no one ...so it leaves us not knowing even still what those capabilities are of the watch
i am 6 foot and 2 inches tall, i have huge hands and fingers but i love this watch, i have one. its perfect for checking my messages and calls, the voice assistant works great.

ZenWatch 2 battery life is pretty comparable to the Gear S2 for anyone that is wondering. I get about 2 days of usage before I have to throw it on the charger.
Yup! Just got the zenwatch 2 and the battery has been awesome so far. I have it at max brightness with ambient mode on and I'm still getting great battery life.
+85beanjune the phone icon can be used to place calls but it all has to be done from your phone. The upcoming 3G model will allow you to use the watch as a phone and actually talk through the watch.

quick question , I want this bad but the only thing keeping me away is the ability to use some apps. can you stream Google music with it? I'm going to get the 4g version and want to be able to access my unlimited music.
Classic has a more stylish look to it and uses a regular 22mm pin mechanism so a lot of watch bands work with it, as well as the bezel shaped differently around the edges for easier grip. The Gear S2 is a more sporty base model that uses a proprietary locking mechanism for the bands but has an adapter that will allow for regular 22mm bands to work.
are your notifications working ? I can not get any notifications . I've been in the gear app checking and un checking things and can not get any at all.

+David Liew If you get the 3g model your can use it just like a cell phone with no phone hooked to it. It has a speaker and microphone although the speaker is not very loud.
well, the watch itself doesn't have any speaker, but when someone calls you, the watch will take care of that, and it will tell you that you have to pick up your phone

I agree with your entire overview of this watch, but I don't feel like a rotating bezel is a suitable trade-off to having 0 apps, no Hangouts, no Google Now, and none of the other hundreds of apps that have (at least) Android Wear integration.. For instance, my work email app allows me to reply, reply all, mark read, flag for follow-up, etc from my watch, all while not having a standalone AW app (just integrated functions within AW). Tizen supports none of these functions, and can only read the notifications.. If you live in the Samsung world, the Gear S2 is going to work really well for you, but for anyone outside of the Samsung universe, go with a cheaper AW alternative as your launching pad to get into the smart watch game. The new ZenWatch is a great option, and there is a Chinese company about to release a "generic" Android Wear watch that is "spec-wise" equal to the Huwaei watch and Moto 360, for $150-$200. Definitely can't wait to see what is coming for smart wearables :)

It has the best hardware. but most "GOOGLE services and apps will not supported on this Tizen DEVICE!!" But for me personally need a smart watch with very good battery life with lots of different watch faces. But i MISS google Now on this device;;;;

Tizen is way more user friendly and useful for a watch, but there are simply no apps for it. That is the one single overriding problem with the S-line watches. If Samsung would just abandon Tizen and modify the shit out of Android Wear to act like Tizen, they would own the smartwatch market.
I just got the gear s2 and it handles the basics so well. unlike android wear. I can read what's apps, reply, handle notifications, health, weather, calendar etc. This is where apple watch and android wear lacks. This version of tizen is quite young so hopefully we will see more apps
They should....... The only problem is that Google doesn't allow manufacturers to change anything except the watch faces....... It's makes me sad but ohh well

Nope. I was using mine on a Nexus 6. The older watches required a Samsung phone.
It does not answer call on its own like previous version??!!
You can answer calls FROM the watch. Just can't talk through the watch at all. Have to pull out your phone.

Tizen is way more user friendly and useful for a watch, but there are simply no apps for it. That is the one single overriding problem with the S-line watches.
If Samsung would just abandon Tizen and modify the shit out of Android Wear to act like Tizen, they would own the smartwatch market.
It's so true but Google won't allow too many android wear tweaks.
I just got the gear s2 and it handles the basics so well. unlike android wear. I can read what's apps, reply, handle notifications, health, weather, calendar etc. This is where apple watch and android wear lacks. This version of tizen is quite young so hopefully we will see more apps
