Best and true advice I found on UA-cam. I'm an old timer also and been working on vehicles from the 60's and what he's saying about newer automobiles and the olders automobiles is so very true. You shouldn't be putting any type of gasket sealer or maker on a rubber or silicone gasket that they use in today's automobiles, they seal themselfs since they are silicone, they will slip sideways even if you don't see it in between the mating surfaces. Older cork and paper gaskets we did use the sealers to help hold them in place, either a little on the corners or only on one side. Shouldn't never put RTV or anything on a rubber or silicon gasket to help it seal, you ruined why they made it out of silicon or rubber in the first place. I see why people put the RTV on their rubber oil pan gaskets for extra insurance but it really does defeat the purpose of the rubber or silicone gasket. I find the newer rubberized gaskets are a blessing compared to the old paper or cork gaskets of the older generations. Scraping a paper or cork gasket from a oil pan and the bottom of the engine block was very tedious and time conconsumming back in the day.

Hi, interesting tip on the Aluminum expanding faster and therefore leaving a gasket sealer off of that side of a paper gasket. I have been debating how to do a few paper gaskets on a '91 Corolla. So even though I didn't buy any Mahle gaskets, this was helpful. Cheers...

I mad a video years ago and i did not use sealer on a gasket for a timing chain galley gasket , i feared a sheet of sealer would blow out or something and i made the decision that sealer on some gaskets is a bad idea but i had no hot chicks that new a thing about gaskets or a wise old man to consult , glad to see i made the wright decision cus i needed a win here .

walk a mile in their shoes by making your own video if you can do better. I just stopped by to see what I could learn about sealing gaskets. Retired and have more time than money so doing some repair my own self now. Thanks for video

I have a 91 f150 4.9l that I want to change the water pump on, I saw a video where he advised using Permatex high tack gasket sealent to hold the to gasket in place, is this a bad idea?
Anyways I plan on using a very very lite layer of this stuff just to help hold the gasket in place....
    Thanks for the video.

Any idea why a properly seated gasket was leaking right after being installed? The other gasket that's secured using the same bolts was perfect no leaks. This is on a 150cc scooter the inner case gasket was leaking after being installed.

Metal gaskets use threebond 1215 and never look back. I don't care what anyone says unless it's a brand new part metal gaskets are terrible at making a seal.

So let me get this straight,.....gasket sealants are not sealants? They are used as an adhesive for holding the gaskets in place?

No sealer came with my gasket, so I've been trying to put it on dry for like 16 hours now and I'm pretty sure it's impossible.
At this point I don't even care if it leaks, at least I can still drive my car without taking out the engine just to put this water inlet gasket on nice and dry.
I'm gonna dip this gasket in the gasket sealer, cover it with super glue and then jb weld it to the gasket surface. When I'm done I'll spray that copper stuff all over the entire area lol.

Mahle is Top Notch. I have successfully used this brand on GMC oil pans, BMW valve covers and Toyota valve covers. No RTV is needed except for a tiny dab on sharp corners. I ensure to clean the surface well and do a final wipe down w lacquer thinner. Have never had a leak.
