Carrera Digital Pit Lane Entry Upgrade

- The Carrera Digital pit lane is a great addition to slot car racing, the pit lane entry track piece isn't so great. It's sharp, even abrupt, and is definitely the weak point of the setup as going through it too quickly, even with magnets, can throw the car clean off the track. There's a solution to this, mis-use the narrows right track sections... but you have to swap the electronics over inside. Here's how :)

Came up a treat but I do understand why Carrera made them the way they did as they mimic real pit entry slow zones
yeah and the track system is made for their cars which come with magnets and works well with that setup, I've only got to do this modification because I'm not playing by their rules by running no mag :)

I'm so glad you did this, it's excellent. I had difficulty getting the track but got the pre-digital version. My pit entry has a right lane switch, followed by this fast pit entry, then a right-hand 180, then the original pit entry using the pre-digital chip moved AFTER the paddle so it post-switches to alternate cars into a 2-lane pit box. (2 fuel lanes then 2 more straights) It then exits via a standard pit merge then the other half of the fast lane merge kit. The 3-lane 180 uses 3x1-60 inside a 6x2-30, leaving the outside lane used as a border. That was version 5 of my pit odyssey.
I have to admit I prefer the original pit entry since this upgrade allows you to enter the pit way too quickly. I get your point on the magnet but it just means you have to be even slower when you decide to have a pit stop.

yeah I get that, but I thought of it that; for about the price of a car I can make it better for all the cars I've currently got - that made the act of wasting a bit of track easier to do :)

G'day to you Dave! just came across you, anything to do with Slot Cars I love, had my first Scalextric back in '64 in UK, like you I turned a certain age , 62 to be exact, I had a 15 sq meter Train layout ,so I added a AMX slot car circuit to it,had hours of fun running both, sadly had a Stroke 18 mths ago and have had to sell it all,anyhoo great to see Folk still having fun,Cheers Mate!

U mentioned slot car union .I have a parcel incoming via fed ex.. do you get stumped on door for extra taxes. It says vat/ tax charged on slotcar union. Ah just heard u mention no extra tax...I'll let you all know.

Clever stuff, but I can foresee a lot of drive-thru penalties for exceeding Pit Lane speed limits.
Most of my cars are 70s and 80s so it's period correct to scream into pit lane flat out 😁

Dave, how much fiddling did you have to do to the solenoid to get the lane change to work correctly? Thanks in advance.
it isn't often the solenoid if it's not opening or closing fully, usually it's that little silver spring clip on the arm being bent slightly and not returning fully

Yes they can be used for that
@@slotr I am going to attempt this using 4/15 banking and 3/30 banking so you can choose the high line or go 4 wide or go low!

I thought those track pieces were actually for that reason. To go from 2-4 or 4-6 etc….then back .

You can do this, take your time, take special care not to deform that little silver sprung bit of metal on the lever actuator and you're good to go, that's really the only hole you could fall down :)

I'm curious why is it necessary to swap the chips?
If you don't then ghost cars will run through your pit lane and the pace car won't know where to stop 😎

Why do you change the complete cables instead of change only the chip!.. the position motor can stay at the place. Soldering chip in the wiring... thats all!.. ghost car will be controlled by chip not from the cabels

I don't really want to get into doing that sort of thing, it's enough trouble balancing the hobby with the 4 month old child as it is without adding to it 😁 Plenty of other people should be able to follow the video though :)
Way too fast for me entering pit lane. I like as realistic racing as possible. Just speaking for myself. 👍🏻🏁
Most of my cars are from an era when pitlanes never had speed traps
