    Glad to see you taking it into your own hands to get it done right, I hope that shop sees this video and fires whoever did that bad of a job. I don't understand how a professional shop can mess rings up like that, that's such basic knowledge for building engines.

    brutal dude! to answer your crosshatching question, I rebuilt my 6G72TT twice in 3000 miles (oil cooler line blew). The cross hatching after the first rebuild was still there when I tore it apart the second time. Had it rehoned and dropped in new rings

    If you read ARP Headstud instructions. The studs are supposed to be hand tight into the block. The washer and nut are supposed to be torqued down.

      @@huracanian3051 You always undo them with a torque wrench that way you know which ones are loose and how much they're loose by.

      If there's ANY fluid in the stud hole prior to installing the studs its common that the stud will bust/crack the bottom of the stud hole.

      Also make sure all the block dowel pins are installed (if it had any originally)

      Correct, when you torque the nut it is loading up both threading surfaces so the fastener won't come loose even if it was originally hand tight.

    10:30 - That head bolt is the oil feed, that's why block is full of oil there.

    Really appreciate this video dude. I'm just pulled out the engine from a 91 vr4 i just bought that had been sitting for years. It would be so much easier if everything wasn't so fused together from sitting for years. Took me 2 hours to unhook the exhaust on its own. Hopefully though that makes putting it in easier than taking it out for me.

    Hey man good luck with the rebuild, I am doing the exact same thing over on my channel. I had to laugh (cuz I have been there) when you said 'I probably should have taken that off before I mounted it to the stand' because I did the exact same thing trying to get the main bearing off. I too have never rebuilt an engine, but for me it's been a great process so far and I am looking forward to putting mine back together. Looking forward to more videos.

    Bro are you kidding me? sue the f out of that shop, unbelievable.
    Send your assembly over to pampena and your trans over to Rvenge , save yourself time & headaches. They are the best in the country.
    I just pulled mine out last weekend too for overhaul.

    That we’re on the bearings looks like they didn’t use lube or enough Lou on the bearings for start up an assembly

    The rear main you are correct on. Needs to be all way into housing.
    Oil groove is normal from seal wearing over time. You can get a speedy sleeve to repair seal surface on crank front and rear are availiable

      I agree about the mark on crank from the seal but it looked awfully deep on camera and just sketches me out.
      If its 10 to 15 thou deep thats that much less of a seal and under boost can push oil....been there.

    The studs do go in hand tight if you over tighten studs u can crack mating surface.
    Also locks studs in so removal later is hard.
    If u want studs to stay tight use locktite on stud.
    Water mls gaskets dont need any sealant the black coating is the sealant.
    Water pump gasket and oil pump gaskets are paper not metal from factory.
    Blue gasket looks like fel pro brand.
    Pistons are cast stock pistons.
    Rods are stock oe rods

      Yea had a few guys say that now ... Well I did the oil pump gasket it is OEM it says Mitsubishi on it.. And I got a metal water pump gasket in a gasket set I got soo that's y I said I think it's supposed to be metal...

    How much work would it be just to drop the transmision? My gears aren't going into 4-5th. It's a 6speed.

      @@Near2Future you have to get everything out of the right side of the engine bay left if you're looking at the engine... All the intake pipes and everything to get to the bell housing and that one transmission mount

      @Near2Future yea u got this 🤙... well if you watch my video of me putting my transmission on you'll understand how to get it off.. The only difference is is that it'll be in the car for you so you'll have to clear everything out that's above it over there by your battery...

    Can you access/service the rod bearings through the lower oil pan? I plan on upgrading my pump while in the car and #1 cylinder is 15 PSI higher than the others. Oil sample coming back about 2-3x normal lead levels. 15 ppm versus 5-6 ppm. I think that cylinder's bearing may be getting some play. Would like to check/replace while I'm in there.

      Yea... I did .. back when I was trying to "save" the "rebuilt" from story Motors I checked all my bearings

      @@huracanian3051 Thanks! I was glad to be able to see the rods from the oil pan without having to remove the upper oil pan like our Nissan VQ35.
      I think I also have the same, but slower, leaking issue around the oil pump. It's slinging oil up onto the front cam sprockets. Did you say the OEM gasket fixed your leak? Did you reuse your pump or the crushed aluminum was too far gone?

      @@mydecember1985 no I got a new pump ... But if u have a 1st gen u have to rebuild it u can't buy a pump

      @@mydecember1985 if you've never had the pump off it's probably not the pump blinking there's a main seal that you can replace without taking the pump off and if it's coming from the cam there's seals around the cams... or something that a lot of people Overlook if you ever had your valve cover off you have to put silicone around the cams for it not to leak that could be your leak coming off the valve covers

    I have a new rear main in my pile of parts somewhere and it’s an oem part but it comes preinstalled in the housing that bolts on, so it’s the whole assembly. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be flush in the assembly. I’m sorry your engine is so fucked:( I really want to start tearing into mine but I don’t really wanna keep buying parts from 3sx. Where do you usually buy parts from?

    Remember you don't want the engine to be unworn for long trying to keep it from wearing in break in is counter productive rather try and get the engine to a place that its going to run for the majority of its life 95+% of its life is spent worn so the parts are designed not to work best brand new but rather when they are broken in. That being said you want to get your engine to worn in condition sooner than later. Ohh and you had a bad builder it looks like was that a machine shop or an engine builder or what

      Yeah I took it to an engine builder who completely screwed me over on everything ... I talked about it in a few videos it's supposed to be a completely forged build all forged internals .... it is what it is at this point my newer videos I've completely rebuilt engine myself this time with all forged internals , Stage 2 cams and 15g turbos

    Looks like you got sold a motor built from used stock parts. I believe damage was caused from lots and lots of cranking on top of the parts already being used

      I beleive the 03-08 honda element. Ude probably have to get everything from that but it's a 6speed manual and I believe the trans and transfer case hold good power. If a blown up vr4 pops up for sale near me I might just have to attempt this.
