Pretty much everything from the PS2 era was better, all these remakes testify it. The technology probably wasn't there, but the design didn't aim for microtransactions, loot boxes, add-ons, DLC, or season passes, it aimed for making complete fun games that the players would enjoy, and that's what made them better.

Except the way PK works it felt more advanced in the original and items felt like they had weight to them when you lifted them and it was easier to aim with.
Fundled LS Holobob is dropping because it's tied to the NPC being on the map, the Holobob is dropping because the NPC you targeted has despawned. I don't know why they did it this way rather than making it a one time check when you active Holobob to confirm a valid target. For now the only way around it is to get a new Holobob every so often if your objective is far away, that works for the most part. Just be careful since sometimes you activate it, run a street or 2 away and the character just despawns immediately, it's normally the ones doing an animation other than walking/standing.

War of the Monsters needs a remake! I went on a tangent in my last comment but since both games were underrated gems on PS2 around the same time period, it would be great to see it return as well!!
You can get War of The Monsters off the PS4 Store. It has trophys also. It's still really fun. You can Shareplay the multiplayer aswell for online multiplayer. You gotta have decent internet. Also on PS4 Pro you can Shareplay at 1080p 60fps. I know it's not convenient but still cool to be able to do that to get around the lack of online multiplayer.
Can't say I care much about the "cartoonization" of human characters, but every other thing looks great! Gonna get it as soon as I get this month's check :P
Gameplay wise my only complaint is that when using the psychokinesis, I remember being able to slam people into the ground while still holding them, but in the remake the sensitivity while holding a human is much slower vertically so you can’t slam them downwards unless you throw them into the ground with the release
One thing I’ve noticed which was removed from the original is the persistent burning effect on buildings when using the death ray. Overall great remake but I do wish they kept that effect, the immersion is slightly lost when the building goes from burning then 7 seconds later is restored like nothing happened.
My biggest gripes with this remake was the PK and Holobob changes because I loved being able to manipulate people in my human form without being discovered and watching the NPC reactions to people randomly flying without freaking out. Plus the weight of objects felt so much realistic in the old version.
I know your comments is a year old but completely agree with you the pk was the best part of the first game it was a little op but so fun just playing about with
I wish they got more feedback like this, the pk got absolutely gutted, one they freeze when you pick em up, barely moving, before they would flail, and that would cause them to rotate, two I agree about being able to stealth pk, but another aspect that it lacks that I absolutely hate, you can't use momentum to damage anymore, you can't just smash em into the ground repeatedly or smack em with a barrel,, you can just pick up and throw and that's it, the lack of precise control also sucks.
The reworked art design can be distracting at time, but the longer you play it, the more it grows on you. This was a wonderful remake. I truly hope they do the sequel! Pandemic would be proud!!
finished the game yesterday, absolutely had a wonderful time throughout the entire story as well as the time spent roaming the maps and completing side missions. i was especially impressed with the final boss and how difficult it was. i think the new art direction to a more exaggerated and cartoony style fits perfectly with the overall feel of the game. i spent a ton of time holobobbing various characters just so i could look at and appreciate their models. black forest games did amazing with this remake, and if they give the second game the same treatment, i will put hundreds of hours into it
The audio part is so hard to choose like the newer one sounds more realistic yet sounds like from a classic scifi invasion movie but then the original sounds sound so good too
This Remake really exceeded my expectations. When I first heard about it I was excited because I really liked the original Destroy All Humans, then I played the demo a little bit ago and I was sold not only does the game look great but I love all the quality of life improvements they added to it. Super impressed with this remake. I hope if it sells well we will see a Destroy All Humans 2 remake.
I remember getting this game for Christmas when I was very young and I didn't understand anything.. Now I'm seeing it and I'm just like "you were such an idiot.."
Lol that's me to that one Russian mission on Destroy all Humans 2 where I couldn't complete a certain mission where you had to go underground because me being my young self never could find the location until years later after getting older. XD I face palmed so hard.
I'm glad they kept one line you can get when holding a soldier up with your Psychokinesis. "I don't know what I've been told, being lifted getting old".
The problem I've noticed with the physics, is the velocity in the ragdolls. When you PK a person upward, they end up descending slowly and standing up for some reason. I feel like the original did it better in terms of physics, considering you'd be able to PK people with unbelievable force and have them maintain or increase in velocity the more they're in the air.
Im currently playing through the remake on ps4 and its great. I'm really enjoying it. I've never played the old version but now i think i need to try it. Since I'm enjoying this game so much i believe owning 2 copies of the same game will be justified. Ty for the good video
"the original game hasn't aged quite gracely due to awkward control" I recently replayed again the original and this game had mechanics way ahead of its time. I hope it hasn't changed so much.
I wouldn’t recommend buying it. Visually it seems cluttered and one thing I picked up on was the sound seems really absent at times. In fact I’d go as far as to say the sound in the original was better. It came across to me like they weren’t going to do what all remakes do (I.e. copy and paste the game and just ramp up the textures) looked like they’re were genuinely going to polish everything...but it became pretty apparent to me within 5 minutes of playing that it’s exactly what they did. I remember extracting brains being more disgusting visually and audio wise in the original, in this one it doesn’t seem the same. Loads of details they’ve unnecessarily altered. Personally disappointed

Still happy I got the platinum though, was hard af to ace all the challenges. Also I wish the main menu layout was in the mothership more like the og one.
I had no idea they made a remake until last night but I just went ahead and bought it because I remember playing the original one as a kid and I loved it back then and still do. It’s just as fun as I remember it being
9:49 You can notice that you could achieve much greater speed and distance with the jetpack in the original by tapping the jetpack controls. It's just that the slower speed of the other one is dragged out an extra few seconds that makes it look like it can go further, when the reverse is true. The newer one has a dash mechanic, but it's not nearly as much fun.
Personally I like the old more realistic humans better. Not due to nostalgia, but because they are more funny doing cartoon things. When I see these new cartoon like humans I expect them to be that way. When you see the old more realistic version doing these silly things it hits you way out of left field and made it more entertaining to see.
One problem I have with the caricatures is that the character at 3:20 is supposed to be based on a real person (Criswell). The original version looks somewhat like the real person, but the remake caricature looks nothing like him. I think the reference may have been lost on the remake developers.
A part of me wants to believe that they went with the more cartoonish art style because they wanted to remain consistent with Path of the Furon's cartoony designs so that it wouldn't be weird when they eventually remade 2 and PotF
No, it objectively looks better since it provides more subtlety. The way it looks now looks like it was designed by the studio that made minions. Physics look worse too.
@@milkman1649 nah not imho, although I love the original and the character models albeit outdated I actually prefer seeing those instead of the caricature models in the remaster. Small nitpick, but there's a bug in Area 52 where if you disguise as any of the nurses in the military bases they will open fire on you. Even though you can see them normally walk in the base without any issues.

Im waiting for a jak and daxter remake you know they could turn that into a show or something too
These games are fun but I definitely think games have evolved for the better. replaying some old games such as spiderman 2. Hulk. destroy all humans. Star wars ep 3. They show their age. While fun they really don't hold a candle to something like the amazing story telling and gameplay of red dead 2 and witcher 3 or what have you. But games are games and these are fun. Appreciate both. Don't gotta be that guy saying "back in my day blah blah blah"
@@bignaaasty5096 There are some decent games today that are still very good. Nintendo first party games are usually fantastic. Sega has some very good stuff too, Namco, Tecmo, Square Enix, Atlus, Arc System Works, SNK, Capcom, not everything is lost.
@@stratogustav Exactly lmao. In the last 5 years I could name dozens of great games. Gaming is just as good if not better than ever. Probably better.
@@bignaaasty5096 Some may be better, but many are definitely not, in fact older games still feel new to me, I don't even see them retro. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there are so many new games that look retro, so it makes the actual retro games feel new too..
Basically they told the voice actor of Crypto 137 to give his best Jack Nicholson impression
So basically long story short, the new game is better in every way.
Except the way PK works it felt more advanced in the original and items felt like they had weight to them when you lifted them and it was easier to aim with.
I think this is the best remake I've ever seen in this modern era.
I like the original better.
cameron henson Logically how? And don’t say nostalgia. The new one is the exact same game but looks and feels better.
@T Doran I thought that was just my computer being fucky but glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem.
Just be careful since sometimes you activate it, run a street or 2 away and the character just despawns immediately, it's normally the ones doing an animation other than walking/standing.
the remake is the the way i remembered the original game when i was a kid :)
Yeah no the original one compared to the remake,,, sucks
Thats how it felts to me aswell
@@jarrodedson5441 you can't read huh
On crt tv ps2 era games looked way better than on moder tv's
1:37 I miss Crypto's aggressive face with them sharp teeth.
You're comparing those pics when he isn't angry in the new version there. A few seconds later the vid shows his teeth also being sharp. I can see they might not be as sharp but... Meh. And maybe yeah, he might look angrier in the old one. Narrower eyes perhaps. Oh well
Farm lady: "AAAAAAAAH LITTLE GREEN SPACE MAN!!!"
Crypto: "I... am not..... green!"
me: "Well you fuckin used to be."
The characiture style npcs are ugly as sin, but it does suit the tone, and it makes them all the easier to obliterate.
Actually he never was green, he was grey. A greenish grey but still grey.
@@electrobob992 Don't care. He looked green, and it was a joke.
Now THIS is how you do a remake. Take notes Ubisoft.
Does ubisoft do remakes... ever?
remakes and remasters are two different things
@@Nick930 Ubisoft is remaking XIII
@@SpicyNoodles12 only remasters which are different. So no need to trash Ubisoft in this regard. They do release their games with a shitton of bugs and glitches but they actually fix them over time
@@osenglish And remasters sadly come rushed. I'm still sad about AC3, since it got a good amount of improvements from the initial trailer, plus a lot of fixes from the original UI. Such a wasted potential.
Honestly for a game with a cartoon aesthetic, it has some of the most realistic looking grass in most shots.
Agreed, destroy all humans and war of the monsters are both my childhood, and I would love to see war of the monsters get this treatment.
A remake that feels like a remake
Can't say I care much about the "cartoonization" of human characters, but every other thing looks great! Gonna get it as soon as I get this month's check :P
Nobody asked
@@sushilbhatla5636 for your opinion? Yeah, you're right.
I agree completely makes it almost unbuyable for me
@@Big_Nick31 Personally I don't mind the mayor change but I really don't like the farmers design
I agree I feel like the humans are way more cartoonish than the original
Gameplay wise my only complaint is that when using the psychokinesis, I remember being able to slam people into the ground while still holding them, but in the remake the sensitivity while holding a human is much slower vertically so you can’t slam them downwards unless you throw them into the ground with the release
Remake crypto: i am not green
Original crypto: GREEN
Bought this for the feels, and it didn't disappoint!
Pandemic would be proud!!
finished the game yesterday, absolutely had a wonderful time throughout the entire story as well as the time spent roaming the maps and completing side missions. i was especially impressed with the final boss and how difficult it was. i think the new art direction to a more exaggerated and cartoony style fits perfectly with the overall feel of the game. i spent a ton of time holobobbing various characters just so i could look at and appreciate their models. black forest games did amazing with this remake, and if they give the second game the same treatment, i will put hundreds of hours into it
Why does this only have 400,000 views?! You deserve MORE!
When using TK, can you still push objects in and out like before? And can you still drop them without throwing them?
I remember playing this on the ps2
@Dr. Loomis I think he was just stating that the PS2 is a best selling console
@Dr. Loomis ah I see
I do not know why but these videos are really calming and relaxing...I love this channel
This game was an absolute blast before and is magically even better now
This game kept me company during the pandemic when I caught covid. Almost maxed it out and got all the skins.
12:27 "If I had a nickel for every alien invasion I experienced, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice."
They did such an amazing job redesigning the game. Damn how funny it is.
seeing the old explosions reminded me of hulk ultimate destruction, god I wish that game would get a remaster as well
Excellent game right there
Gotta say this is up there with one of the best comparison videos I've ever watched.
Great work! Earned my like and sub
You can really tell that they spent more time working on this than they did on Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.
I love that they made the controls much more simple. Makes much more fun to play
Love to see them do this to TimeSplitters!
WOW i forgot about that game. That would be amazing.
I'm glad they kept one line you can get when holding a soldier up with your Psychokinesis. "I don't know what I've been told, being lifted getting old".
In all aspects, a truly impressive remake.
The worse physics are one of the reasons i held of the remake. That and the fact it appears to aim for you
I kinda don’t like how on he remake, the humans all look too cartoony
Im currently playing through the remake on ps4 and its great. I'm really enjoying it. I've never played the old version but now i think i need to try it. Since I'm enjoying this game so much i believe owning 2 copies of the same game will be justified. Ty for the good video
I still have the original 1 & 2 on PS2. I loved this game
"the original game hasn't aged quite gracely due to awkward control"
I recently replayed again the original and this game had mechanics way ahead of its time. I hope it hasn't changed so much.
Old art style... remake looks graphically good but I don't like how cartoony npc's look.
@@TheArsenalgunner28 maybe it got something to do with how it now seems to want to attract children. Or more like, the parent who will though it ia good for kids, with it being cartoony and all.
@@TheArsenalgunner28 Nope, the remake is better. Nostalgia has just gotten to you. I'm sorry but ....the sounds?! They all sound massively improved in the remake. Again, nostalgia has gotten to you
New art style fits the story, dialogue and general human stupidity much more than the original did. The only smart person was silhouette and her art style remained exactly the same.
@@TheArsenalgunner28 You mention most remakes just improve textures and that this game is the same. And then you complain about a change. Am I missing something?
This remake is fantastic, I grew up playing the 2005 version, but the challenges are definitely not more enjoyable lmao, I just got the platinum trophy and some of those later challenges are just tedious bs. Still happy I got the platinum though, was hard af to ace all the challenges. Also I wish the main menu layout was in the mothership more like the og one.
This was purely the Best Review ive seen of this Game yet though
I had no idea they made a remake until last night but I just went ahead and bought it because I remember playing the original one as a kid and I loved it back then and still do. It’s just as fun as I remember it being
But does the wooden windmill in the remake also move?
If not, clearly a 0/10!
Such a disappointment ruined my immersion so much
but it has a little something for everyone.
I love the new death ray sound. The original sounded like a dinky flame thrower, but the new one sounds like an otherworldly beam of death!
Loved the original when I was a kid, so I picked this up day one. It's still just as fun as I remember.
9:49
You can notice that you could achieve much greater speed and distance with the jetpack in the original by tapping the jetpack controls. It's just that the slower speed of the other one is dragged out an extra few seconds that makes it look like it can go further, when the reverse is true.
The newer one has a dash mechanic, but it's not nearly as much fun.
I'm buying the remake off amazon this week
Have fun! 😎🎮
Enjoy the game!!!
I preordered it but I have to wait to get it delivered tomorrow lol
*nice*
Personally I like the old more realistic humans better. Not due to nostalgia, but because they are more funny doing cartoon things. When I see these new cartoon like humans I expect them to be that way. When you see the old more realistic version doing these silly things it hits you way out of left field and made it more entertaining to see.
I don't mind the cartoon characters, but I do like the more real looking ones best.
One problem I have with the caricatures is that the character at 3:20 is supposed to be based on a real person (Criswell). The original version looks somewhat like the real person, but the remake caricature looks nothing like him. I think the reference may have been lost on the remake developers.
Hey Nick, do this game have a photo-mode? i just love taking photos.
Nah sadly no photo mode
@@Nick930 Oh well, thanks for replying though :)
The PC version uses the Nvidia Ansel tool to take photos
@@lupulasco i play on consoles, but thanks for the info anyway.
Ive been playing the 2005 version more recently the remake made me miss the old one
This is how you do a remake.
A part of me wants to believe that they went with the more cartoonish art style because they wanted to remain consistent with Path of the Furon's cartoony designs so that it wouldn't be weird when they eventually remade 2 and PotF
I dunno personally I prefer the way the original looks. Probably purely nostalgia.
But the addition of the hover slide and better jetpack traversal feels alot more streamlined and seamless. In the original it was nuisance you cant jump over a fence in a human clone form, the remake is faithful to the original and adds additional cut content the Pandemic developers ultimately left out.
Milkman nope, that’s just you blinded by nostalgia
Yusuf Hussain realism = more subtlety and depth.
Minion looking characters = Marketable trash.
What's not to understand?
Milkman stop pretending like this game had depth, it was made for kids in 2005, and it is still for kids in 2020. The only difference is you being blinded by nostalgia.
Excellent remake, makes us remember the original the way it should be, with modern graphics. I forgot how fun and humorous this game was. Thanks for the great comparison!
I remember when my mother bought me this game years ago. I wouldn't go down for dinner or even go for pee break 😂
Ngl. Just played this and it was a great experience. I feel like the look, feel, and gameplay was updated well without compromising the original too much. As a remake I’d give it a 9/10. The original wasn’t the best game but I loved it growing up and I’m glad this was done. Can’t wait for DAH 2 remake that was teased.
I played this on the ps 2 it was great I don't really like the character art style change but it's not completely off putting
Great video Nick, keep up the great content. Im sure you'll hit 300k soon.
I'm so happy to see new life breathed into this classic masterpiece! 😀 Pandemic would be proud! 😢
Small nitpick, but there's a bug in Area 52 where if you disguise as any of the nurses in the military bases they will open fire on you. Even though you can see them normally walk in the base without any issues.
The remake looks amazing!
After a good while and finally on sale, i bought this game, my nostalgia and your review really helped me, thanks again Nick !
Can you make history of nfs would love to watch it
I cannot tell you how much this game means to me I know it sounds daft but this game was my childhood. I didn't get most of the jokes. But to be an alien with advanced technology. I felt like I had all the power in the world as a kid playing this game and to see this game come back better then ever just makes me so happy. Also your videos are brilliant this was just what I was looking for.
Early af. Love this series. It's always great to see our constant improvement of graphics. One day it may look so real that you won't be able to differentiate reality from CG
I love how the Zap-o-Matic sounds in the remake, much better than the stock electricity sound effects of the original, like the remake Zap-o-Matic SOUNDS like a very painful electric shock
Pandemic studios? Destroy all humans? It's 2020!?
Thank you very much this really helped me understand how the game was developed and redesigned again.
Forgot that Pandemic made this game. I'd LOVE a Mercenaries remaster!
It's a shame EA fucked them over. I'm hoping we get a new Mercenaries also.
I'd love a Saboteur remaster. THQ need to buy the license for Mercs and Saboteur off EA. They arent doing anything with them. Actually I believe Lucasarts or Disney own the rights for Mercs 1. So that's probably never leaving their vault
I don’t really keep up with what video games are coming out much but I went to game stop and saw this and got so excited!
One of the best games ever made no 🧢
Agree
It's more like a fun game rather than one of the best game of all time cause theres no way you can compared this game with a lot more better games
It's far from being one of the best game of all time
Obviously you haven't played much video games

Used to watch my son play this game on his Xbox 360. This remake looks really cool. I may check it out. Awesome comparison as usual SIr. :)
This is Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated levels of enhancement and detail. Well done, Black Forest games.
You must be joking. The developers didn't even touch the gameplay in the so called Spongebob remake.
35Antonio yeah and it has way more bugs
I loved everything about the remake. As a kid, I played it through 12 times on the PS2, and it was my favorite game for years. My only wish is that they humans were just a little less exaggerated cartoons, but I can respected the choice all the same.
