Not sure why people think leaving it out is so noteworthy. It was the right choice. If people need their fix of blood and guts there are plenty of games on the market for that.

Don't forget! The Gameplay Section in the options menu has a feature that allows you to play THPS1 and 2 in their original control schemes. That way, if you're not keen on the PS2 era controls, you can always go back on the old ways!
I think the original game carries such a nostalgic charm to it. The graphics don’t even bother me. THPS is a prime example of timeless gameplay mechanics 😍
I agree. Old school is where it's at. When you're the one who's playing the game, you don't even think twice about the graphics because you're sucked into that world and concentrating on gameplay.
It would be nice if split screen multiplayer was always included in modern games; Just because some play with people over the internet doesn't mean that people wouldn't want to play locally in the same room with their family. It's one thing I had to give props to CoD for. While some would throw out local multiplayer, games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Ghost kept it.
@@XaneMyers Treyarch's CoD Black Ops 4 caught me by surprise when I found out it's Blackout Battle Royale was to have Split Screen. Let's see what happens with Cold War. You sound like someone who appreciates Split Screen. Do you get to play as such often?
@@SSGLGamesVlogs It's one of the reasons why I bought so many more CoD than BF even though the solo (campaign and online) experience of BF is wonderful. When you have a brother at home with you, no way you're going to start BF rather than sharing a gaming session on Blackout together! I wish Warzone had split-screen too, at least MW does.
@@XaneMyers Yeah but MW removed Splitscreen for Survival mode. Also, IW only makes 2 Player Splitscreen CODs where as Treyarch still makes 4 Player Splitscreen. Also MW doesn't have Splitscreen Survival.
While I do love the challenges, I think I would like an option to play through the goals again, at a pace that's not just SpeedRun mode. There's something therapeutic about going through the levels over and over and chipping away at the goals, as opposed to being required to do it in a single run (even though it seems you have infinite time). The levels are pretty empty without the floating icons, and it adds to the tedium of doing the individual challenges when there isn't as much stuff going on. If that makes sense? I hope they add an option in the future.
I think the sound from 1-2 still is good. Maybe like a " classic mode" for the sound and blood? or even a classic mode that mix old and new (old characters in ps1 form with blood turned on for example)
While the new game certainly looks like quality, there’s just no substitute for the originals. The originals had reverb added when you are in large rooms, whereas the new one does not, and it’s a shame. Plus, the simplicity of the visuals in the original made everything pop more so than in the new game. Ramps and grinds stood out more. And the blood... the new game is too modernized with its sanitation of the original content. It’s sort of insulting to the culture of the original game.
I can't wait to play this, I'm a long time THPS fan been playing it since the original came out I've had every THPS game Proving Ground was the last one I purchased. I have the THUG Pro mod on pc with the original maps XD They did a amazing job on this it looks great, isn't glitchy or messed up and overall looks amazing they really did keep it true to its predecessor. I'm definitely buying this asap. Did I mention I also skate in real life for the last 14 years THPS series is what started my skating journey and I will never stop I'm 30yrs old now and I still and will always skate. Amazing work on this video I digged it.
One feature I'd like, that's probably impossible with THPS 1+2 unfortunately, is the ability to switch between remake graphics and original. I really love when remakes have this feature, as I'm always curious how things looked in original. It's certainly easier for comparison than dusting off an old copy and trying to install it, especially since I don't have my own THPS2 copy, I played on borrowed one back in the day.
Yeah that would be sick, but unfortunately it would mean remaking the entire game again in the same engine (UE4), which isn't really feasible or financially viable in most cases. It would be like redoing what they have already done with this remake, but shittier, so for the amount of people who are actually interested in this beyond casual curiosity, it's not really worth it from a development pov. I see this done with JRPGs sometimes, but it's infinitely easier to do it with those types of games because you don't have to consider collision or physics as much.
This video is really well done, wow! Thank you! I am waiting for the game to finish downloading now and can't wait to try it out. I really doubt these will still be in the remake... but I remember there were these awesome videos that you could unlock in THPS2 where you'd see a montage of each playable character skating. It was especially cool seeing Tony Hawk's video which begins with him starting out as a little kid and then gradually becoming the pro skater he is now and even landing The 900 after many fails. I even loved the video they had for Spider-Man, it was so great!!
I love this so much!! Only thing I want to see changed is disabling the skater's grunts and groans as they launch and land, it's really removing that "zen skater" vibe the first couple games gave.
I hope that everyone has an amazing and memorable rest of the year and safe travels, adventures, skateboarding and gaming throughout the years. 🍀♾️❤️🔥
Love the remake. They held on to all the good things in the games and expanded on it. The controls are great, muscle memory is kicking in after 20 years. :-) I do miss the sound of the original grind tho. Oh yeah, Superman is still my ringtone. :-D
Same, you can really hear the way the bearings are still spinning when you get air in the original games. Some of the new sounds are better though, like riding on certain walkways.
I do like this remake, Ive spent a lot of time on it. Beat the campaign with 100% in both games. A couple things I wish they would have done different on it 1) make it quicker to level up. Or at least better rewards to chase as you level up. Like I said I've spent a ton of time on this game and done many challenges and only at level 54. Seems easy to get burnt out if you're trying to get to 100. 2) Wheres the gap editor in create-a-park? You cant make your own gaps in park editor. That was a fun feature of the originals they left out of this one. Also it'd be cool if there was a list of pre made parks to sample from like from the original THPS 2.
@@chuko3213 it's definitely worth it. Its not only late 90s-early 2000s nostalgia, there is a surprising amount of stuff you could do in the game. The maps are amazing and many more community maps will be added soon. The learning curve is much lower than something like Skate and best of all, you get couch co-op.
I am so happy they got this right. I have been playing it nonstop since it came out yesterday. It feels amazing, looks amazing and sounds amazing. They did right by THPS and all fans. This is what a true remake looks like.
This and the double tap on the grinds should definitely be implemented. I used to love using Spacewalk to get over to the next section you were trying to hit
Personally I don’t really care for all the infinite combo potential a lot of these mechanics provide. It gets to a point where it’s really just trivially easy to pull off multimillion point scores, which is especially problematic for online play (which is why I suspect it’s not included). If you don’t plan out your combo run efficiently, you should reach a dead end imo.
Preordered Monday, played HD remake through 5 times for muscle memory practice, Downloaded full game this morning and finished career for both games including all star points and Vs around 3pm 🤷🏻♂️😅 but I gotta say I’m one of those purists who would have very much liked the old money in the levels and buying stats system better than the stat points system they’re doing here. I WANTED the grinding with every skater through the entire career mode like it was in the old days. Now it’s just tedious stat point grinding all the way which feels like a waste of time
Yeah they really butchered the campaign mode, I liked playing through with each character. After you beat it once what are you supposed to do? How can you remaster something that was already mastered?
miguel sanchez i just finished the solo and time runs and got 100% everything. Maxed the stats of 5 skaters including a self made one. Zero challenges left now besides an online mode that isn’t well thought out
@@Tw1stTech exactly, I was hoping for a true remaster not a remake. This is too much like proskater HD that came outlike 10 years ago. Honestly I refunded this and am just going to stick with my N64 version lol.
One thing that I always loved from the old games, likely a result of the technology available at the time, is that each map always felt so liminal. It felt creepy, and like you were alone. Obviously, I understand why they don’t feel that way anymore. But I suppose it’s something to appreciate from the old versions.
I'd love that, I doubt it'd happen though because it's not really in demand. I see a lot of people who are just indifferent towards it, which angers me tremendously but not much you can do about it.
THPS4, THUG2, and THAW were the 3 I played the most so I hope they get a remaster at some point. My favorite part was always the Create-A-Park I'd spend hours as a kid building parks, some would have a story behind it, and then me and my little Brother would play the parks I made pretty much all day long. The Create-A-Park in this remaster looks pretty good I might look at it a little more but I think I'll probably definitely be getting it.
This is so amazing! Bought earlier today and almost finished 1st game in one go. I havent played in 10 years-ish and I still was immediately right at home with controls. I really hope they remake 3+4 next and then Underground games. Then remake of 5 which I never played Bedford. Glad I skipped it and decided to return with this title instead! I want TH6 right now as well. 🍻🎊🎧 Impressed there is so much customization AND NO MICROTRANSACTIONS! Also splitscreen COOP even on PC! GG
Great comparison Having not played much thps since the early 2000's, this remake is almost exactly what my nostalgic mind remembers (rose tinted specs and all that). This is how remakes should be done
I got the this remake close to release day and binged played it through the weekend till I got to skate heaven. Then I stopped playing it for a little while, but just in the past few days I started playing it with my nephew again because I forgot how many secret characters there are. And I have to say, this game is a damn near perfect remake. The nostalgia is still there and it continues to impress me. The only issues I have been having is its like sometimes its not picking up every button im hitting in a combo. I'll have a full fresh controller and its not always picking up my reverts and manuals and combing special tricks together. I set there just now just trying to do a special grind, special flip trick to a manual into that same special grind and its like the game can't handle that, or doing a revert after a 900. Some times it registers and sometimes it just ends your combo. And it could be because I'm not on a ps4 pro and im pretty sure the game in on my external drive so its not exactly optimized how I have it now. Bunt man, I have always been a big thps fan and huge thug fan. I still love these games and I love playing them on the ps4. I really hope they can get all the way to underground 1 and 2 on a ps4or ps5 remake because those two games hold a special place in my heart, it started with pro skater 1 & 2 , I played 3 more than 4, but I played underground more than 3 and underground 2 more than any of them. Probably because I wasa huge jackass fan and watched viva la bam religiously. Underground 2 was a marriage of all of my favorite things at the time. I love the character interactions in underground 2 and how your goal for every level was to break a bunch of giant things that turned into new things to skate haha.
Wow, great video man! Thanks! Definitely going to get the game! I'm kinda bummed out about the space walk being removed but hope they add it in update in future or something.
It wouldn't be accurate at all. The physics are completely different. The code VV used for this remake comes from the work Neversoft did on the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox releases of the series (THPS3, THPS4, THUG, THUG2, THAW) Jump height is different, speed is different, rotations, grinds, etc... they all feel much tighter and easier to manuever. The classic games are a lot more stiff and difficult to master
Watching this makes you appreciate how much harder it must be to make videogames with such minute detail. Developers are becoming more like gods, in charge of making actual worlds.
No, it's not. Actually it is easier. Now you have software designed to automatically make realistic body models, or you can just use software that can take multiple pictures of a person and make a model automatically (also software that can make assets automatically). Developers are just getting lazy and lazy with how easy it is to make a game compared to back then. The REAL "gods" are the people making all the software and apps the developers use.
The best thing about the mall is that it shows just how thoroughly Vicarious Visions did their homework. Look up photos of real-life malls that have been abandoned for several years (two of the more infamous ones being Rolling Acres and Randall Park), and you'll find that they don't look all that much different from THPS 1+2's mall. As someone who's always been rather fascinated by the subject, the realism of that environment really hit me like a ton of bricks, and it gave me a whole new level of respect for the remake.
Nice video. You sum it up. This game is a blast. And I usually make a big sidewalk around Activision. This game is dope. Hope they remaster 3 & 4 too. 🙂👍
Doesn't bother me too much about the rewind animation when you bail. But I do wonder if it was to censor the blood, or just by design choice. I mean, kids have blood right?
It kind of makes sense when you consider it's a remaster, it's like we all rewinded to the 2000s. All of the goal items (S-K-A-T-E letters, etc;) have the same visual effect.

You didn't speak about one major addition: Charlie Brown Jr - Confisco. A homage to the most influencial band on Brazil's skateboarding scene
I think the original game carries such a nostalgic charm to it. The graphics don’t even bother me. THPS is a prime example of timeless gameplay mechanics 😍
I agree. Old school is where it's at. When you're the one who's playing the game, you don't even think twice about the graphics because you're sucked into that world and concentrating on gameplay.
when you're early there's no 720p, I'm finally managed to experience this phenomenon
"Old school split-screen" 😢
I think Split Screen has actually been making a slow, but steady resurgence since the Halo incident.
Imagine how power a remake of American Wasteland would be?!? The BMX would be so much fun
Added now! You just select solo tour and you can start them all again with a new skater
@@Cpchurch87Its so nice!
Damn 5:30 this actually breaks my heart. I miss the awesome videos in the background!!!
Now we need Underground 1 & 2 remastered! My fav tony hawk games tbh
I love this so much!! Only thing I want to see changed is disabling the skater's grunts and groans as they launch and land, it's really removing that "zen skater" vibe the first couple games gave.
hopefully theres a voice slider, i dont mind the grunts but yea there was something great about the silent skaters
@@Tycholarfero Surprise! There isn't one.
There is grunts in the original games!
It would be cool to see a comparison between every game that features a map from THPS and THPS2, like THUG2, THAW, and THPS HD.
I hope that everyone has an amazing and memorable rest of the year and safe travels, adventures, skateboarding and gaming throughout the years. 🍀♾️❤️🔥
“Shame in the end”???
Bruh
Someone has mucked up, real bad.
I was thinking the same thing lol
He was the one with shame ..in the end
Just sad his nostalgia is keeping him from enjoying some of the great new tracks on the remaster.
Jeremy Lance
Freal DZ deathrays “into it” is in this remaster and Ive been a fan of this band for like 5 years
Such a comprehensive, complete review. Amazin
I hope they remake Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, one of the best games in the series.
Ian Jericho I would fucking love a Wasteland remake
Underground or underground 2
PLEASE
I'm absolutely loving this game, I just hope they eventually add on THPS3 as a tour for DLC
Nice when old games are remade .it often opens up so many new opertunities
3:18
Oh the nostalgia of the idle air humping. The late 90s were a magical time.
@ E Beach underrated
Love the remake. They held on to all the good things in the games and expanded on it. The controls are great, muscle memory is kicking in after 20 years. :-) I do miss the sound of the original grind tho. Oh yeah, Superman is still my ringtone. :-D
Gonna say I prefer the originals sound, not sure why but there's something more lively about it?
The sounds were more crude so they popped more, plus big rooms had reverb, which was great.
Yeah, your childhood
That's cuz the originals sounded like a video game, the new ones sound like real life.
Same, you can really hear the way the bearings are still spinning when you get air in the original games. Some of the new sounds are better though, like riding on certain walkways.
I kinda like the detail in the older game cause the music video was playing according to the track
Wild how the mall aged with us
I do like this remake, Ive spent a lot of time on it. Beat the campaign with 100% in both games. A couple things I wish they would have done different on it
1) make it quicker to level up.
I was today years old when I realized Warehouse takes place during the daytime.
This game looks interesting!
I got it and it’s good, you should get it
@@chuko3213 it's definitely worth it. Its not only late 90s-early 2000s nostalgia, there is a surprising amount of stuff you could do in the game. The maps are amazing and many more community maps will be added soon. The learning curve is much lower than something like Skate and best of all, you get couch co-op.
This game put alot of folks on classic hip hop no cap🧢
I am so happy they got this right. I have been playing it nonstop since it came out yesterday. It feels amazing, looks amazing and sounds amazing. They did right by THPS and all fans. This is what a true remake looks like.
You should make a comparison with the remake HD from 2012 too because some of the features of this new remake is from the 2012 game.
I want vicarious visions to handle the games from now on, They’ve proved they know the formula. Unlike Robomoto.
Yeah
I really hope they do TH3 4, and THUG
Just looking at this makes me want for a Tony Hawk's Underground remake lol
We need a Underground 1 + 2 remake!
They definitely missed an opportunity by leaving out the Spacewalk. It basically puts a dead end right into your combo.
This and the double tap on the grinds should definitely be implemented. I used to love using Spacewalk to get over to the next section you were trying to hit
What's a spacewalk..... Do u mean getting off the board
@@adamhearts9195 it is where you manual and you swing the board from left to right while still holding a manual
Something great about old school graphics. Makes games feel more like a game.
I didn't mind about they removed the blood. It's still an awesome game.
I NEED IT!!! How do yall feel about a American Wasteland remake?
I'd rather have Underground 1+2 remake.
I'd love that, I doubt it'd happen though because it's not really in demand. I see a lot of people who are just indifferent towards it, which angers me tremendously but not much you can do about it.
I hope they do the THUG ones. Can't wait to get this one though.
And need for speed underground 🚀
Now.. matt hoffmans pro bmx remastered - it needs to be done!!!
Fabulous review! Thank you so much for the side by side comparisons!
Early as hell. So excited to play this game
We also need an tony hawk unterground 1&2, American Wasteland remake
I would be up for a THUG 2 update! It was one of my most played Tony Hawk game ever back in the days of PS2.
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy Fan-Film mine was Amercian wasteland But i Played thug2 too Both Games are legendary
Impressed there is so much customization AND NO MICROTRANSACTIONS! Also splitscreen COOP even on PC!
GG
I want microtransactions :(
Great comparison
Having not played much thps since the early 2000's, this remake is almost exactly what my nostalgic mind remembers (rose tinted specs and all that).
20 years later & the original still holds up
Wow, great video man! Thanks! Definitely going to get the game! I'm kinda bummed out about the space walk being removed but hope they add it in update in future or something.
Now THIS is how you make a comparison video!
The first game got me into skateboarding as a teenager, I never imagined they would do a remake 20+ years later. Makes you wanna be a kid again 😏
If thps3 comes in a future update/dlc I will definitely pick it up since it was my favorite game growing up and is just nostalgic af
i want someone to sync a controller on both games at the same time and play em side by side to see how accurate would it be :D
It wouldn't be accurate at all. The physics are completely different. The code VV used for this remake comes from the work Neversoft did on the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox releases of the series (THPS3, THPS4, THUG, THUG2, THAW)
Jump height is different, speed is different, rotations, grinds, etc... they all feel much tighter and easier to manuever. The classic games are a lot more stiff and difficult to master
@@Nick930 well then that means you can try and sync thug pro with it. It uses the same physics and has most of the maps 👌
Watching this makes you appreciate how much harder it must be to make videogames with such minute detail. Developers are becoming more like gods, in charge of making actual worlds.
Or authors. Gods is a bit of a stretch but yeah lol
The REAL "gods" are the people making all the software and apps the developers use.
tony hawk underground would be a perfect remake
THIS GAME IS GLORIOUS.
