Giant red flag: nepotism arrangements. When the boss' wife/husband works in the office. Especially if they're not qualified for the role. Run far, far away and don't ever accept the job. Nothing good ever comes out of that. Or any form of nepotism really (friends, family members, etc). You, as the employee, will always be "wrong". Not to mention, if you have a legitimate complaint about a spouse, you can't exactly bring that up to the boss. Nepotism harms morale in the office.

Where I currently work the manager has his buddy directly under him (minion) and our HR department is the younger sister of the manager. Absolutely horrible!

Red flag is when they suddenly turn into micromanagement and also blaming you for their mistakes.

So scary when you realize it’s time to move on… when your body is trying to wake your brain and consciousness up.

#6 When leadership gives you work outside of your scope and won't promote or increase your pay, meanwhile promoting others and asking you to train them.

Great video Ken. Have you ever made a video about employees who hold their employer hostage because they know so much about the job that no one else does? They have no other cross-trained person to perform that employee's job in case they are ever fired or they leave the company?

My boss is both leader and person that is dysfunctional. He would bring his mistress in one day and bring his family in the next, yell, degrade etc.

I just wish I fought harder to get out when I first realized it was toxic. I stayed and tried to fix things that couldn't be fixed. Now it's going to take years to undo the harm. Get out of toxic situations ASAP!

The department I’m in is test 4 10’s. I thought I’d hate 10 hour days but I realize now how I wasn’t utilizing my time after I get off work. In this it feels like I’m getting a full day and I feel more productive.

Regardless of how good you think your workplace is, if you’re not glad it’s Friday then you need to enrich your life with passions other than work whether family, hobbies, sports, etc.

Love this! I was always scared and taught to abide by the horribly bossery especially being in a career that I enjoy. 100% correct to get up out of there!

Ken, that was phenomenal how you handled the last caller. The pace and pitch of the voice of the caller and also the energy was not the same as yours. You have the ability to read people and adjust your delivery. You can pick some one up when they are down and also slow someone down when they are a little too jazzed. It always makes me uneasy when someone says “I’m on your energy wave length” that was incredible to see how you handled that! Caller did calm down towards the end and turned out to be a good call, but early on the caller was speaking a mile a minute and made my head hurt!!

I am so blessed to have found Ken. I am so number two where I am like 'I'm sure glad its Friday'. I have completely checked out of housekeeping to the point that I have no desire of coming to work everyday. Life is too short for me to be unhappy and not thrilled about coming to work. I pray that I will find a job that I will enjoy as soon as possible because housekeeping has emotionally and mentally has gotten to me.

If you dont mind, what is it that's gotten to you about housekeeping? It's one of the ideas I've tossed around in my head. Pros from my point of view, I love being active, I love promoting a clean environment. Cons, I feel like maybe physically I'm not strong enough (heavy lifting), I'm afraid of an upset customer if I dont clean to standards, and I'm afraid of, what if it's a really gross house.
Right now I'm a dispatcher and sick of people and sick of sitting around all day.

@@EvangeliumDiSilenti I am just burnout from doing the same common areas every day.

Ken, do you have coaching to help folks get out of a taxic environment? I recently had a heart attack at age 36 trying to handle/manage being in a workplace that doesn't appreciate me or my team.

I am 49 as of today. Married with a 14 and 15 year old. I have never had a job that I have made over 30k/year. I currently make 20k/year plus we are given a small 2 bedroom apartment to live in. I am unhappy working for the company. There is barely any advancement possible, they micromanage to death, and they have started paying new hires more to start than us that are already here. I want to find something else but can’t afford to lose the apartment. Don’t really know what I am good at but know that I am worth more than 25-30k/year.

      Hi:
It may not be my place to say this or not. So forgive me. However, I would suggest taking stock of the things you are good at first. Second, no matter how hard it is attempt to save. Money is oxygen, especially in the interim of jobs. Third, figure out the lowest risk highest reward job that you could move into. Not a job you would like, but a job that is better. Don’t assume the next job is the be all end all. For example phlebotomist can get training in roughly a weekend and make roughly 30k a year.
Night classes as a dental hygienist can cost as little as 3k per semester and net a 100k year after school.
      All the best.

Hey, I do not know all of your situation but try some secretarial jobs at hotels or law offices if you have customer service experience, or try even doing delivery or ubereats during peak hours in your city. I did some ubereats and as a side hussle and got to listen to podcasts, videos, and music while working and helped a lot with the bills. Idk not an expert but know you can find other opportunities
