I'm gonna say it. I'm gonna say it. This guy has one of the best filmmaking UA-cam channels because he is an actual filmmaker and not a "Cinematic B-roll" UA-camr like everyone else. There I said it. Love ya Lewis keep it up
Amen🙏
Amen
Amen
came down to the comments to say literally the same thing. Incredibly helpful and inspiring
hahaha I love how you put it as a: "Cinematic B-roll youtuber"
Hey Lewis, I've been loving all the break downs that you've been doing! Thanks for all the time and effort that you put into them!
Thanks Ben
Honestly, everytime Lewis posts I'm like a boy on Christmas! These videos are informative, creative and concise! Thanks for another banger and please keep em coming!!!
Your breakdown videos inspired me so much that I convinced most of my film friends to start watching your channel.
We unironically crhisten lighting techniques in your honor. Whenever in doubt do the "Potts". Thank you!
Haha
That ad break was too smooth and way too good
1:43 That "what would deakins do?" sticker is amazing lmao
Love the WWDD add-on. Need one of these for my setup haha! Great video as always Lewis, appreciate the insight!
Your videos are amazing. And thank you for touching on your exposure process--it was very helpful to hear!
For what it's worth, I would subscribe to your Patreon account if you had one.
This is such a great video! Love that there are more uploads than usual! Thanks for always explaining things that other people couldn’t always understand!
I came here for the ad break hahaha, always inspiring lewis
Awesome as always. Your sponsorship bits are also very creative they are impossible to skip. Finally, very disappointed that the WWDD stickers are not being sold at the moment. I need one
5:13 Okay, my brain just overheated to understand why your sun is going from right to left. I thought you were in the US, but I guess you are in Autralia.
As someone who works as a "video person" what I really want to see is a rundown of how you actually came to do this work as your career - I'm looking at this stuff thinking "wow, it'd be cool to one day do this sort of work" but I honestly don't know where to start! Great vids as always though. Thanks!
Again! People don't understand the amount of work that goes into making a 30 second commercial. Thank you
As always, thumbs way up!!
Love these breakdowns! Keep ‘em coming
Thanks!
Nice shots! Where we can see this commercial? Need for my reference collection =)
Why the tarp on the lightstand for backlighting the circular saw guy?
The producer knocking on neighbors doors animation makes the whole video!
I'm just a simple person. When I see in my notifs the "Lewis Potts Uploaded" I automatically watch, like, and add the video to my DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY PLAYLIST.
I have noticed the 12x12 solid is made by rectangular and tube pipes (1st time I see that) what did they use to install them on the tripods? thxx
I'm just starting to do some grip work while also shooting my own no-budget things on the side. I've been on a few shoots where the DP is SUPER INEXPERIENCED. If they have the same or less experience at DPing as me how can I get those jobs that pay well? Do I need to market myself as a DP and stop doing G/E work? Also what was your journey to get to become a DP?
Super intersting insights!! Really need to buy a crane like that one day
those 60" angler soft boxes are great. I've got a 48" that I love.
Yeah they're great
As a fellow cinematographer I found a great hack when doing high altitude shooting if you don't like high altitude, for example from an open door airplane... just look at the monitor all the time and the brain forgets that you are few kilometres above the ground xD
Drone's cannot be within 15m of people unless they're the new FPV drone which has exemptions up to a meter. You wouldn't have got this shot on a drone
Loving all your videos! Great work!
Lewis, give me a year or two and i'll be working for you. I'm a sydney based DP and director and you are the one person i see in the industry thats so calm and collected.
Your sponsors must love that your ads in the ad breaks are filmed like professional ads… because how to film professional ads is the subject of your videos
love the stuff dude how does your prepro with your gaffer and producers look for something like this?
Hey Lewis , wondering if you could make a video going more in-depth about how you read and control the levels to get your exposure correct, base off different scenes. Like how you went in-depth on your color grading. Great video like always.
Great video again! Where did you get that Deakins sticker? I want one! Or a dozen!
I wonder how many more videos of yours I need to watch to learn that "ad break" is not you doing a breakdown of an ad...
These are so good you should play the audio tracks backward so we have to work to hear what you say... yes, that good...
can you make a video talking about how you got to where you are today. what did your journey look like?
How lucky are we to get this frequent of posts from a genius. Thank you 🙏🏻
Another amazing video, can't wait for the next one.
thx for ur content always great
I need a website!!! thank you.
Can you break down how you did that car shot for the square space ad
Best Square Space placment intro ever lol
The "we had the money so the f not" - must be nice loool
Thanks for your insight Lewis!
I love the "WWDD" sticker :D
Thank you. 🙌🏼
If you made a course I’d buy it Lewis
to get footage for your reel do you ask someone specific for it? btw, love your videos. 100K subs on the way for sure!
Depending on if there’s an NDA for the job, bring an extra drive for the DIT to transfer clips for you. Trying to get the footage after the shoot is over can take forever.
@@aa.ronjax Thanks Aaron! I'll give that a shot.
I guess my follow up question is - will you be doing something that could potentially damage your relationship with the director and/or producer?
@@JohnLuna I feel like the general consensus is, if the video isn’t “live” then it shouldn’t be shared and that doesn’t exclude your reel. It also doesn’t hurt to bring it up when you agree to a job.
@@aa.ronjax yeah, I think to be safe it's probably best to bring it up before
1:50 "we had the money , so why tf not" :D I hope I will be able to say that one day
Thanks for the content Lewis. I always learn something from your video. Just a question: in your experience what kind of lights would you advice to own for small and medium productions?
Thanks man, a bowens mount cob light with a soft box it so handy for lots of scenarios
Thanks Lewis!
5:10 - Does the sun travel to your left in that wonky hemisphere of yours?!?!
Haha yep, east to west just like everywhere else, nothing special down here
Lewis your ad breaks alone are a daggone master class👊🏼 Keep up the good work! Much love from East Tennessee🙏🏼
Love the video Lewis! I’d love to see some essentials that you usually like to bring onto to set!
Great video!
That’s one beautiful thing about the Alexa… if it looks good on the monitor, it’s going to look good.
Huge thank you for making these great videos. I also really enjoy the shorter (sub 10 minute) format.
Did you use a diffusion filter like Black Pro Mist? And I would like to ask on which lenses you shot the commercial. Thanks!
Thanks man, no filters, and we used the dzo vespid lenses
@@lewispotts Thanks a lot! The images looked to me like they had some sort of mild diffusion in it. That's why I asked. Maybe the lenses add a bit to it.
Anyway, your channel and the Wandering DP are by far my favourite channels for improving my cinematography. Thank you for putting out such great and valuable content!
Real helpful 💯. Thanks
Crazy how a simple shot can take so much heavy duty equipments
Coulda put the lf on the drone
love this !
I need a technocrane for the shot
Hey Lewis, Big fan of your work, . Been following you and other similar DPs for a while, and I'm curious.. you guys seem have work every other day, like twice a week or something. How do you do it? If I'm lucky i'll get a gig once every 2 months.
Please don’t stop posting!
Who is the Blonde?
Thanks for the video and breakdown! Great video. In your opinion do you think the new Aputure 1200D will be able to replace the use of a 1-2 K HMI like the one used as the sun in this video?
This is the real BTS we need.
Here for the ad breaks
Haha!
4:56 you got that eye!
WWDD... Love it
I have seen a lot of Alexa mini put on up on smaller cinelifter drones, I guess that could've worked too
Dude great videos . Pls make a proper video on how the fock do u do with ur white balance in different situations and do u use a light meter?,
Complicated but easy. Thank you!
Would you be able to make a video on how you got into the commercial world? I.E. demo reels, what gear you're expected to own, and general business tip and tricks.
thanks
nice one
Coolest thumbnail of all time
Eyy Thanks man!
I think we all agree that you now have an OBLIGATION to keep making these awesome videosn
would love to know the details on the intermission shot of you dricing? Looks like some sort of source int he dash? Also showcked at how much those sodium vapor lights on thr road throw into the car. This looks incredible. Funny that my comment is on about 2% of the entire video and it's about a section that has zero to do with the video sorry haha
I want to see how you make your square space Ads........
the videos are Damn Nice
Honestly, one of the quality cinematography-related content on UA-cam. Looking forward to more of these
when are you going to make a tutorial on all the camera and lighting setups for the ad breaks?
Haha yeah possibly
@@lewispotts an ad break in a ad break tutorial 🤯
Once again no spoilers if I say that it’s a super creative + informative video love it!
I love these breakdowns, thanks for sharing
When filming EXT shots do you always set up lights/bounce to add more contrast to the subject? I was just at a shoot for a commercial as a PA and I noticed the DP didn’t add any sort of lights bounce etc.
Nah I don't always, less so if I'm shooting drama, or I just don't have the time
Love the videos!
love the vid!
These videos are so helpful.
Good to here!
