Forget about the cinematography this man's sense of humor is on next level.
Why we all stick around really.
@@timthompsondp Well, that, and the priceless (or at least pricEY in dollars or blood/sweat/tears) industry knowledge that comes with it. Think you might have forgotten that bit.
For real
Yes so good haha
honestly hilarious
You have definitely schooled us on the framework 🙏🙏😁😁 I'd love to hear more real world breakdowns of grip and lighting gear, like how youd approach scenes and what gear you'd expect to be needed..
I never thought I would grow tired of this "modern" anamorphic lens look 😴
Wait until you try 16x9.
I’m peeling the “WWDD” sticker off my Mattebox and replacing it with
“always one more practical”
Love this channel. What drawing app are you using with the Wacom to be able to add annotations so quickly?
Haha the commentry always makes my day, Patrick you must try to write a dark comedy will be a blockbuster.
In case you wanna check the ad: ua-cam.com/video/If-jxjWokO4/v-deo.html

De Nada
I cant believe what happened at the end of this video… insane
“If you’re on a location scout and you come across a school like that. Report it.”🤣💀
"Kids like 'You sure you don't wanna soften that up?'
¨They are saving money on electricity¨ hahahahahahha About the lighting in the wide frame, you mentioned the window out of frame is the key on the teacher. Dont you think there is a bounced light through the window close to her lighting her as well?
Don’t Regret The Haze - I’d buy that tee shirt.
How to avoid the noise???
Please can you put the tittle on every ads before you start break down it.. 😭
Here is the ad: ua-cam.com/video/If-jxjWokO4/v-deo.html
You look like the big inmate from papillon
Thank you so much for making these video’s i love you
WHY DOES THIS GUY NOT PUT THE LINK TO THE ADS HE BREAKS DOWN.
CBF
5:29 you can see the hase getting pumped in at the bottom - so he should report fire in his room XD
False color… I use the EL Zone Sysrem. 🙄
* Use your best snooty voice. 🤓
El Zone…the Betamax of False color.
@@wanderingdp 🤣
We love it! We want more breakdowns! Keep going man. Love these. - Would love to hear you talk more about exposure during the shots / looking at histograms and scopes and explaining the levels you would shoot for. Thanks
The Wandering DP Breakdown's could possibly be the single most reason UA-cam should be introducing the 😂 reaction.
To take your final point further, I don't think anyone, anywhere, should be talking about "shooting a classroom", regardless!
You magnificent bastard, thief of my sleep and keeper of the imutable framework..
.. !^!#% it, keep the inspiration coming.
07:27 first time I hear a good reason to shoot anamorphic in a long time other than dps geargasm-ing around "bla bla bla horizontal lens flare blablabla I love the look"....
Thanks. Would to learn about Pro Assets used on Editing and Pre-Production
More than learning your pointers in the framework, you definitely crack me up, Sir 😅😅😅
Here is one - don’t know if it was done before - shooting into the sun - specifically shooting talent against the actual sun during sunrise and stretching it out ... plus how to get enough level on em while it’s changing rapidly...
The like count is at 420... I cannot like it 🤣🤣🤣
I'm so happy that I've stumbled upon this channel! Really insightful and informative!
Was wondering if there's a complied list of all the commercials that's been disected and broken down? Looking to train and test my eyes to spot all the lighting set-ups to improve my lighting!
I just discovered this channel. Holy hell. A MasterClass / comedy . Learning so much lingo and knowledge it’s crazy. “Punching down the line” love it. Boutta binge on your content. Thanks so much!! 🍻
Zero dislikes?? You’re doing something right man! Keep up with the framework stuff! It never gets old!
Never thought I'd laugh so often watching a technical video.
Saw the title in my notifications and thought oh no... is this, the end? Yet another informative breakdown tho, as always
My lips are sealed, man. I ain't telling anyone.
Patrick please take us onto set with you and show yourself putting the framework to use
They are talking about fake news, but I trust you Patrick ;)
As always, well enjoyed time with your breakdown. Thank you.
interesting with the anamorphic, awesome video dude!
Some of the commentary had me cracking up ❤😅😅
At 4:02 could you use a soft light with a grid or egg crate to focus it on her?
Please do a breakdown of apple commercials
The framework works. So you know how to make image look good. Where can we start focusing our attention ? Story telling psychological approach . What does the light say ?
u good?
Awwww the last time? ☹️
You should start a career as a comedian 😂
How do they add the eye light without the light spilling on her face?
if the other lights in your scene are of a higher luminance, you can use small dedicated eyesights without polluting her face and the eyes will just pick up the reflection.
How about camera movement, lens selection, filters etc.
snoozefest. light is the way
Awesome as always patrick🔥
I think the dead poet society might have done it different ;)
The lady doth protest too much, methinks
UNDERSTOOD!
HI PATRICK
You're the man...
Who has the link to this ad? Or name at least
Nevermind. Found it. ua-cam.com/video/If-jxjWokO4/v-deo.html
Can you make an episode about eyelights?
If you find a TV commercial that uses them.
@@wanderingdp Challenge accepted.
So I am a little slow... are you saying it's bad that this style of lighting and use of haze is overused and tiring? Or that it's just tiring to analyze all the time because you've done it so much that you want to pass out? Love your lessons, I watch one of your episodes once a day before starting my day
As far as lighting goes, I'd say this is the only "practical" (no pun intended) way you can light a classroom with side windows, for a normal interior day look. As for haze, it seems to be tooootally overdone in the narrative world these days, even where it's not really justified at all, or doesn't make sense in the context (IMO). I guess that's what he was getting at.
@@daniel.lopresti definelty pun intended 😂 that makes sense, I couldn’t really think of any other cinematic or beautiful way to shoot this type of situation for lighting. Thank you!
never enough haze.
@@wanderingdp never too much haze… Noted
The best!❤️
The light meter is one of the DP's most important tools. It has served the craft for generations. False color is an interesting new tool, but I often question the efficacy of its information. I can remember using wave form monitors, years ago, once the video taps improved on film cameras. However, it is after all a rec709 standard. Any in-camera measuring device is hindered by a single reflected point of view. There is nothing like getting out from behind the camera, to walk the set and get a feel for where the light is coming from, where it changes, and what the foot-candles are in a given space. To truly get a sense of what the light is doing, from an incident POV, it behooves the working cinematographer to get up and move in the same space as the actors. To suggest that using a light meter is a pretentious waste of time is a silly point of view to take. I sincerely hope you were joking...
thats too much, dial it back a bit
I wasn’t joking. I whip out the meter whenever I’m bored on set. Tools are useful until they aren’t.
We salute you Patrick. I did learn a new thing. Anarmphics and top lights. Thanks for the awesome content!
