The main takeaway for me was, that Lewis is willing to pay 25 bucks for Magic Mike and his dog, but won't even smack a fiver down for Edgar's Gambit. Shameful.

At 7:25 that lighting setup is called a color wheel. It was a tool that was heavily used in the early days of live liquid light shows for bands back in the mid 60s-70s. An artist would rig up multiple color wheels on a motor so they would spin at different speeds, and then use an overhead projector to mix and blend liquid inks. The color wheel over the top would add new color to the projection and performance. It was one of the main tools for those light shows.
Okay but Last Night In Soho is an absolutely stunning movie. The shots they pulled off with mirrors and twin actors, it is just amazing. Also a pretty fun suspense movie overall.

Very funny. I would love to see a series entitled “are they serious”about the sheer wastage on film sets. Or maybe “don’t be so obsessed and self important nobody is going to give a shit”. Particularly by directors driving art departments. Often they are the hardest working people on films but the producers who green light some of this nonsense are complete idiots. In a world where every other industry has sustainability as it’s by word trumped only by diversity and inclusivity the film industry is shameless in it’s pomposity and sheer waste. I don’t care how much a marvel film grosses it’s just wrong in 2022. Thx for the light hearted relief delivered impeccably as ever.

A wireless drill, a disk with different filters, and a flashlight....I like it. Now we just have to figure out a way to put that into a professional lighting kit and charge thousands for it.
Extras do get paid in Hollywood. I don't see anything wrong with building those giant sets if they use them. Green screen feels synthetic and only having tight shots is claustrophobic.
Dude, I think the lil DS1 in the scene from Vice is acting only as a ping in the eyes. I've heard multiple big names talk about their approach to eye lights and it seems they like to use lights of that size. I doubt a diffused DS1 does anything on his face level wise.
