Pilots in MD make so much money that’s why I plan on going to maritime school then becoming a captain of a ship retire at age 50 with millions of dollars in the bank then become a Maryland pilot.
@Playford Seven - Actually The Port and It’s shallow water approaches are actually unfamiliar territory for A Captain ..Just as the same way You would be unfamiliar in a unknown chaotic country in a Car..The Captain doesn’t have knowledge of The local Currents, shallows and most importantly the manoeuvre for Docking is Performed by the Port Tugs who liaise under the Pilot’s Command to Turn around and Dock-undock in a tight space. Hi guys, I'm very scared of the bottom of the ship. Especially scary to see it from the surface of the sea. I named it "bottom phobia". Is there the same?
You could get crushed between those 2 ships, while climbing that ladder. Every day they put their life at risk. Climbing 4-5 ships every day. Pilot's Job is very risky.
Being an captain or crew of a ship is not easy. They will took thier lives in danger specially when the sea is not calm... But they can deserve a high salry being paid by thier difficult jobs.
Why can't those ship builders think of a safer method for the pilot to board and get out of the ship??? Is it so difficult to think of a safe sure device???
So, how aware are the pilots of the danger of what they do when they board ships like this? I know all of them know that it would be dangerous to fall of, but how dangerous do they think it is? Do they think it's more a danger of potentially being crushed between the ships (which could be survivable), or do they think it's more certain death, for example that they would be forced into the propellers from the enormous suction downwards along the hull into the screws? Would appreciate a reply :)
@Michael: in that particular moment you are very focused to do the right step in the right moment. Those dangers you mention are somewhere in the back of your head, but in that moment you couldn´t think too much about ist, because the right actions have to be done within seconds! And what is of the same importance is to start climbing immediately after stepping onto the ladder, because the pilot boat shouldn´t jam your feets or legs between boat and ship, when the boat comes up with the next wave! I´m a sea pilot at the Kiel-Fjord and at the east part of the Kiel-Kanal in Germany.
@@kielerforde8495 Very interesting! But do you think there is a genuine danger of being sucked into the screws of large ships if you fall off the ladder and end up in the ocean? I know that one person who jumped off the Stena Britannica was sucked entirely down through one of the propellers, but I'm guessing since he jumped over board that he ended up a meter or two under the water surface because of the tall jump. Any danger of that happening if you are floating near the surface?
@@michaelcaplin8969 Yes, that might happen! But as this would be a very dynamic situation and depending on many factors (position of the pilot-ladder at the hull of the ship to be boarded, weather, aquadynamic situation around the hull, etc.) it is hard to say, what ist the most possible danger to happen. The last fatal incident we experienced in Germany happened at Brunsbüttel-roads at the river Elbe ... that pilot was saved (I don´t know, if by helicopther or by the pilot-boat), but later died of hypothermia in the hospital ... a too long time in the cold water!
I don't think the water was moving at all. It looked like the two ships were moving. The bigger one wasn't going to slow down so the smaller one had to keep pace.
Evergreen...
hope it doesn't get stuck
Never did find out if Maryland Pilots Assn. had to bite the bullet on that one!
Very smooth and accurate approach!
Well done Captain and Pilot for the team work
Very well done!!!
Not an Easy task
Respect for both the pilot and Captain 👏
now only if they handeled seuez with the same grace

That was really cool to see. Thanks for sharing.
You'd think that the ship could maybe lower a safety harness for the pilot in case he misses the ladder.
This would be dangerous
Yes dangerous
This is what happens when you are late for your work and your boss is mad
That is badass considering the guy may be climbing on 3-4ships every day more than 200 days a year
Correct I do that everyday..as I am a Marine Pilot myself Without recognition whatsoever

So cool to see this perspective. Great video..
It's only,,, at that moment,,, one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet
Hey guys! Glad you liked the video- this is our track playing 🌊 thank you for all your kind words 🙏
these people are fucking brave, balls of steel
Hi guys, I'm very scared of the bottom of the ship. Especially scary to see it from the surface of the sea. I named it "bottom phobia". Is there the same?
I believe it's either called "submechanophobia" or "thalassophobia"
Shippyassphobia I think it’s called
Evergreen ship I see in real
Nicely done! That's like a 5 foot wave?

The pilot of the small boat is bad ass. Transfer in conditions like this is cake. Add 10 meter more seas and 60 knot wind. Now THAT would take balls
We do get heavy weather, 10m and 60kt here in SF. But I don't stand on deck and take videos on those days!
another hardest job in the world,
god bless

Me: Where's the fucking stairs?! Crew: This IS the only fucking stairs!
How does he climb with those big balls of steel?
it's actually ladder with wooden foot steps, what you are seeing is the side of the ladder reinforced for stability
@@cpbounce91 you didn't get the joke
He has a pile of huge money on which his big balls of steel rest while he climbs the ladder
That is funny, But how does he do it
Great job by the Master of the pilot boat in conditions like that. Great seamanship
Moments before disaster
Sir, it is my company. Thank you , sir!
😂
Why don't they get the ship to slow down a bit for a minute. Surely it would be safer
Time is money
Ship is not moving dude
Ship is moving at about 9-10 knots. That is best for keeping the pilot boat alongside in weather.
👍👍 They make there DOUGH !
Is this the same ship that is blocking the Suez Canal?
Yes
Why can't those ship builders think of a safer method for the pilot to board and get out of the ship??? Is it so difficult to think of a safe sure device???
This is much safer during rough sea & swell.
Maybe the ship could lower a cage on a rope for the pilot, on a winch ?
good job Captain,..
STS MUARA BERAU ANCHORAGE
Is he going for some sort of inspection of ship or cargo? Does every port do this?
That's a gentleman job!
Not dangerous at all!!??! Oh its ok he's got his hi-vis on.
Anybody want to hear how sick I got on a cruise.🤣
🤣🤣🤣
That big massive engineering piece of work and that's how you get in? Really???!
