    I can't help but notice in all these pilot videos, and in all the prevailing weather conditions, not so much as a welcome aboard. Please correct me if I'm missing a cue.
    Good skilled work Pilot captains.

    I always thought habour pilot would be an awesome job....then I saw the rough sea vids. Not in a million years would I do that. Those are brave men and women!

      The cheapest pilot license I've heard of is about 1 million USD in Hong Kong. Don't know about other countries but these kinda jobs are not given freely by the pilot club.

      @@cyberdiver7076 My nephew is pilot in the Netherlands. You need to have a bachelor or master degree, basic training first helmsman, around seven STCW trainings, 12 months experience as first helmsman or first captain. Than you can start your pilottraining, which is 12 to 15 months. You'll earn some money while training EUR 3600 EUR once. After your pilottraining you can become a member of the pilot corporation. You need to bring around 50k EUR investment into the company. Revenue or your income is based on the amount of ships and how big the ship is. They nett payment is not bad, but also not very good for a master degree.

    For shame! Where's the deckhand making sure the pilot gets on okay? Or keeping the ladder steady, and away from the tires it got pinched on?

    Deckhand should have pulled the ladder inboard or as the tug fell away and trapped it, it could have ripped the ladder away from the ship.

    • @rickdunn3883
      @rickdunn3883 Рік тому

      Note the Crowley Tug fender arrangement is not designed for boarding Pilots. Typically a Pilot Boat has a section where there is no fenders so the boat does not crush the ladder. Even though the bottom ladder section is rubber rungs. I wonder if a better arrangement can be made regarding the fenders. Has anyone seen a better layout on a tug for boarding underway?

      @@rickdunn3883 i was a Pilot for 25 years and trust me, those tyres, when trapped between the two hull's, could with any swell, pull the ladder down.

    Pilot ladder is too much lower, and it might damage the steps, especially the spreader

    The ship crew was not profs; no tail rope connected to the pilot ladders and because of that they could not hoist the end of the ladders! It was one moment stack between pilot boat and the hull of the vessel. In case of rough sea pilot boat can jump up and down bulling ladders down with force you can imagine and break the ropes. Not so nice if the pilot is just climbing up somewhere in the middel of the ladder and falling dow to pilot boat deck from lets say from 5 meters. It think it will hurh a pitt.

    Technique, you must be quick when it's too rough, jump climb fast, grab bar faster, because when the wave comes back up , you'll get smashed in between two boats.,🙏🙏🙏💖💖💗✌️✌️

    Not a great set up. The bottom of the ladder should have been cleared of the fenders prior to coming alongside. 7~8 metre climb with no man ropes……….and a big steel deck below. The saving grace was near perfect conditions.

    A tug is not the best thing to use. Too slow.
    Pilot launch much better.
